Mimic crooned up (and indeed it was up) at Pandorath; his tail wove from side to side happily before he reared onto his hind legs, winding his tail neatly around his legs and tucking his forelegs close against his chest – meerkat pose! A pleasant chirp emerged from the brown; if he was aware of being analyzed, he gave no sign of it. So, so happy to meet the new dragon, he was. The goldthing always said browns were the best because three of her four dragon-slaves were browns, and then of course there was Mimic and Doppelganger – but blues were very nice, too, and Mimic didn’t see what was wrong with bronzes! They were shiny, after all. Shiny had lost its appeal after too much time around Jingth – it had become common – but Mimic knew that shiny was rare. His had a rareshiny! She was just that amazing. A low squeak before Mimic paused to peer intently at Terilyn just to make sure she was asleep before he skittered a little closer to Pandorath, hopefully reaching out to lick the blue – on his ankle, the highest part he could reach. He’d tried.
Love baby, much. he commented to Pandorath privately, though he kept his voice as low as possible, as if Terilyn might hear him and wake. Sleeping babies were so cute, weren’t they? Mustn’t wake, mustn’t waaaake. Both wings fluttered in his enthusiasm – how he wanted to express it, but he didn’t want to be noisy. Riaren wasn’t noisy and everyone loved Riaren (of course), and Mimic so did like being liked, so maybe if he was quiet like the babylove then people would love him too?
“Thank you, but she doesn’t need an apology – she’s just fussing.” The words were slightly apologetic in themselves; Meira didn’t at all approve that Jingth had demanded an apology from the blue because she had nearly collided with him, but the gold was, much as Meira hadn’t believed it to begin with, a gold and as vain as they came. Sigh. Her nose wrinkled slightly and she added, a little more playfully as she bounced Riaren upwards in her arms so he didn’t slip down, “Um – I’m sure she agrees, anyway…” A slight laugh, before she added explanatorily, “I don’t think she believes she’s second best in anything…but yeah. Just poke Mimic if you need him to go, or else he’ll probably never leave.” An exaggeration, that; Mimic rarely was far from her side, or if he was (in the case of Weyrling Lessons) he was with Doppelganger or curled up around Riaren. It was very reassuring to think that even if she couldn’t be with Riaren, at least Mimic could. He’d probably come bouncing back sooner or later, but she didn’t know whether or not F’lyn and Pandorath would tire of him before then.
“I’d like that – I think Riaren would, too,” she added, taking a slight step past the bluerider before she smiled at him again, quickly, before her gaze lingered on Terilyn for a moment. So sweet, asleep – babies all were. The goldrider shifted Riaren slightly again, the baby turning his head and resting one cheek against his mother’s shoulder, to watch F’lyn even as Meira moved off after Jingth. The gold had turned briskly once she’d realized Hers was coming to her, and one glide and two daring flaps of her wings carried her to land neatly next to Meira. The large head came down to nudge Hers pleasantly; a quick swipe of her tongue distracted Riaren instantly as both hands lifted from Meira’s sleeve to wipe away the spot where Jingth’s tongue that slid across skin.
Didn’t I tell you I’d be better company than the blue? the gold inquired smugly, glancing back at Pandorath, F’lyn, and Mimic before she flipped her tail – the gesture was not quite dismissive but it wasn’t interested, either. Not important anymore, now that Hers was away from them. Oh, her slave was there, but the slave returned on command and Hers didn’t always do that.
Mimic, meanwhile, had turned to watch His go with a look of curiosity sprawled across his face; at her mental assurance that he could stay with Pandorath (there was no fear that she’d leave him; she’d said she loved him and she meant it – she wouldn’t leave him after that!) the Salamandyr’s attention swiveled back to the blue and he chirped pleasantly, skittering forward to leap neatly onto Pandorath’s muzzle. Up he went, until he could curl around one of the blue’s head knobs; he peered down at the blue. Love you bluewingy, so nice, he said admiringly – so nice, he was. Meet flutters? Yes? Know /many/ flutters. Nice flutters, Mimic knows. Show you? Said flutters all belonged to one brownrider, ironically, but R’wign had ever so many and Mimic liked them, so it counted, right? Right? Surely they’d like Pandorath!
