Sensing a new arrival, Ophelie half-peeked toward the other green, but did not otherwise react or stop from her little squeaking-singing noises. It wasn't as though she'd never offended another green firelizard before, and it was not that easy to scare her. She wriggled affectionately and chirruped as her 'song' came to a stop, at last, and then delicately fluttered her wings. Her eyes whirled slowly and she watched Zephyr as if the green was the most interesting thing in the world. She did not make a sound though, not until Miguel started speaking to her and she turned to look at him, her head cocking to the side intelligently. She recognized when she was being spoken to, even though he said her name very strangely. The firelizard's eyes whirled faster and then she chirped, the sound lower than her previous chirps. It was probably the firelizard version of 'I disagree' and she emphasized it by chittering very quietly right into the boy's ear directly - as if to tell him a secret only she knew. Then, pleased with herself, Ophelie rubbed her entire body along Miguel's face in what was an undeniable show of affection.
"She is silly," Ka'rys explained as he handed off Shei back to her aunt with no protests whatsoever. With his arms free, he easily slipped down to one knee so that he was at Miguel's level, and addressed the boy directly. "I just let her believe what she wants. It makes her happy. Unhappy ladies is never a good thing." He nodded slightly as though to emphasize his point before indicating Ophelie. His eyes flicked toward Lauranna as she spoke and he nodded, but turned back to Miguel just the same. "Would you mind it if Ophelie came around you more often?" It was his opinion that asking Lauranna was only half of what he should do. Yes, it could be potentially inconvenient for her to have a green firelizard flitting about, even if Ophelie followed instructions very well. But she clearly didn't mind. It seemed logical that Miguel wouldn't, either, given his obvious fondness for the flit, but one could not be so sure, and he was a firm believer in trying to treat children with consideration rather than talking over them. That way they knew to treat others with consideration, too, by following the adults' example. It made sense to him anyway.
As Zephyr disappeared, both Ka'rys and Ophelie looked up, and the green gave an approving chirp that earned her a scolding look from her mine-thing. She ignored him and Ka'rys looked over at Lauranna before grinning at her explanation slightly. "I'm very lucky that Ophelie is typically calm and easily placated," he admitted. "This is the most noise I've heard her make since she hatched, too. I think as a rule she prefers silence." Think? No, he knew. He knew for a fact that Ophelie would skulk in the shadows and hide, waiting, watching, and then come back to him and send him images a plenty. She was very good at it, and he approved of the spying on her part, even going so far as to encourage her. Sometimes she even struck gold and gave him something fascinating to see. "She shouldn't feel jealous, your firelizard -- Ophelie might like Miguel, but she would be unlikely to perch on you without having the other green's consent. She's very polite on that front."
But - - her statement made his eyes darken and he slowly stood back up before turning to look off in the direction of his weyr. "Calmer, yes, but no less agitated," he admitted. "Ciceroth has calmed down considerably, which helps. He takes a strange amusement in picking at me, and it seems to have soothed his wounded ego." He rolled his eyes slightly, but on the inside he fully agreed and understood with Ciceroth's agitation. There were some lines that did not bear crossing, and unfortunately, Aslath had crossed them. "I suppose I should thank you for preventing me from doing something I'd regret." Like thrashing Shmee. Even though it would probably knock some sense into her. His gaze flicked to Miguel. "And you as well."
