The warmth that day brought for a ride was making T’rid sleepy—very sleepy. He yawned, stretching where he was sprawled lightly on the grassy banks, about ten dragonlenghts from the river. Corinth, whose tail was serving as his pillow, looked around continuously and twitched his tail as his nostrils flared, eyes whirling blues and greens. T’rid opened one eye, regarding the bronze in slight annoyance. “What’s up? Can you stop moving your tail?” He turned over and planted a firm hand on Corinth’s tail, but the dragon twitched it anyway. Finally, T’rid opened his other eye. “What’s wrong?”
I want to swim, the bronze said wistfully, regarding the sparkling water. There’s no fun lying around here…can’t I go swim? You can sleep on the riverbanks while I swim, if you’d like to. One eye blinked at his Rider hopefully. T’rid groaned, rolling his eyes. I know what you’re about to say, Corinth went on, I’ll let you ride.—and the reason I’m making you move is because I don’t want a tunnel snake or a wherry or something to come and attack you if you’re asleep.
T’rid yawned and pushed himself up. “What’re the chances of that happening?” But he mounted Corinth dutifully. The bronze rumbled in pleasure. It took so little to convince his rider sometimes, and at others he could be a deadglow. Unfurling his wings, the dragon lifted off roughly, jolting T’rid, who blinked in surprise and let out a sharp exclamation, tightening his legs around Corinth’s sides. “What—?”
Sorry, Mine…I didn’t mean to. He drifted towards the river. Sparkles of sunlight played across the surface temptingly; Corinth cocked his head mischievously. I would hang on a bit tighter if I were you, Ridermine…
T’rid paled noticeably. “Why? What?” Corinth dove, angling his body downwards at a steep angle towards the water. T’rid grabbed his neck ridge and clung tightly. “COR—!” They entered the eerie underwater; motion slowed and a steady stream of bubbles burst from T’rid’s lips, showing how fiercely he was swearing at the moment. A second later, they burst above water again. The young man spat out a mouthful of water, finished his swearing, and then smacked Corinth’s neck gently. “What was that for, eh? You said I could just come and sleep!”
Corinth rumbled in amusement. I can only dive if I’m flying, and besides, what’s the fun in lying around like a between-ed wherry? He paddled towards the shore, letting T’rid slide off when he judged the water shallow enough. The tall young man splashed to the shore and collapsed upon it, watching as Corinth went underwater again and came up, humming with pleasure at the liquid coolness.
“You’d better hope this wher-hide stuff doesn’t decide to shrink on me,” he called jauntily, “or I’ll make myself a new tunic out of dragon’s hide!” He grinned.
Deciding to ignore this implied threat, Corinth spewed a mouthful of water on his Rider. Soaked again, T’rid spluttered in surprise. “Corinth, you absolute beast!” Ah, there was no way he’d ever get sleep anymore. He got to his feet and sprang at his dragon; both of them fell over into the shallows, Corinth bugling in triumph.

((Due to my lack of full-fledged riders, I'm going to throw Liassa in there. She's good at dealing with bronzeriders. Her teacher was A'noan...if you think that your bronzerider is full of himself, check him out. Issa plays him. It's great!))
Mine, go back to sleep. It's too early to be awake,[/i] Tiaeth urged, curling into a tighter ball on her dragoncouch. Liassa grinned, pushing her dragon gently, almost enough to slide her a little bit. Due to the fact that her roommate was still asleep, Liassa reached for the thread that connected her to her dragon and simply sent her thought along it. She'd been practicing since the hatching. She wanted to be able to speak silently with her dragon and she'd gotten it down fairly well. Why don't we go out and sleep in the sun. The sun's warmer. She had already gotten dressed, throwing on a light blue top and tan breeches that she'd already rolled up above her knees.
Because that involves actually waking up to get there, the little green answered in a very matter of fact voice. For a tiny green hatchling, Tiaeth could be remarkably reasonable already. She'd eaten and then gotten to sleep for about thirty minutes before Hers woke her with thoughts of swimming and sleep on the rocks. She didn't understand her rider's fascination with the sun. She thought that it was just as fine to sleep indoors. Sleep was sleep, wasn't it? Come on, Liassa pleaded playfully, finishing securing her hair in its typical bun, For me? She'd learned already how to get Tiaeth to do as she wanted, just as the green had learned how to get her own way. It was an adorable battle of the wills that always bounced back and forth. Tiaeth was too tired to play her part.
Fine, but I'm going back to sleep as soon as we get out there, she muttered, uncurling enough to totter off the bed. Tiaeth was a slender, petite green, though she wasn't undersized nor scrawny. It was very obvious that she was not built for strength, but for speed and agility. Liassa couldn't wait to get in the air with her, but they still had months to go before they got to fly. That's fine with me, her rider replied, laying her head on her dragon's head before the pair made their way to the lake.
As soon as they got within viewing sight of the lake, Tiaeth was convinced that they were there and now it was sleep time. Liassa just laughed and urged the little one a little further. Finally making it to the rocks that bordered the lake, she found a large one and laid down, Tiaeth curling up beside her. Sleep now, she commented unnecessarily, the pull of it already pressing through her body and mind. Liassa laughed again, scratching her eyeridge as the green drifted off. Sometimes she thought that her bonded could sleep through anything, but she loved Tiaeth for it.
And that thought was tested as a bronze and his rider catapulted into the water, sending a fine mist of water her way. The green didn't even move as the droplets hit her body. Liassa smiled, wiping the water from her face. Leave it to bronzeriders to make everyone wet. She watched the pair as they played for a moment, debating whether or not to say hello. Deciding she had nothing to lose (but her dignity, as always), she sat up. "Greetings bronzerider, I'm Liassa of the green Tiaeth." Shards, it felt so good to say that. [/size]

“W—what?” T’rid sat upright in startled shock. He hadn’t expected anyone to be nearby. He hadn’t even seen the girl, for Shards’ sake. “Oh…” Corinth’s head shot up from where it was underwater too; he regarded the girl with a curious green-blue stare. T’rid shook the water droplets from his hair before replying. “Well, Liassa of green Tiaeth,” a slight smirk flitting across his mouth as he regarded her, “I’m T’rid, rider of bronze Corinth. And unless I’m mistaken, you’ve just Impressed at the last clutch, haven’t you? I thought I saw your face at the Hatching.” There was no mistaking the arrogance that laced his voice.
Corinth, meanwhile, had picked out Tiaeth’s sleeping green form nearby. He rumbled his amusement. It appears, T’rid, that you aren’t the only one for which sleep is essential. There was a quiet irony in the way the bronze spoke. His eyes returned to the girl; he tilted his head curiously as T’rid stood slowly, slightly annoyed at being caught drenched to the skin in the middle of a river.
“I assume you saw Corinth’s…er…landing, then?” he asked, raising an eyebrow slightly as he tried and failed to dry off his face; water dripped annoyingly into his eyes. The girl looked wet. No doubt as a result of the splash that Corinth had created. A grin twitched the corner of his lip. “Got splashed, then.” He actually grinned, this time. You’re pleased, aren’t you, Corinth, that some other people joined in the fun of getting wet? His voice was quietly sarcastic as he raised his eyes to his dragon.
Of course, said Corinth, lowering his head to better appraise Liassa. I like this one, Mine. She could have been all idiotic and wherry-brained about getting wet, but she isn’t.
Trust you to like the Greenriders, answered T’rid.

Well, she managed to surprise him. That was quite hilarious. The initial look on the bronzerider's face was priceless. She wished that she could catch A'noan looking like that, but she knew that he would never lose his condescending demeanor long enough to appear startled. At least she'd caught one bronzerider looking shocked, if even for a moment. His bronze appeared to be surprised as well, quickly popping up from underwater. Liassa stifled a giggle, they made quite a pair!
And then the smirk appeared. Of course. Were all bronzeriders like that? Liassa was surprised that he remembered her, but it set a genuine grin on her face. "Yes, I just Impressed Tiaeth. It was quite a hatching wasn't it?" That drew her gaze back to her dragon for a moment, a loving look in her eyes. She still could barely believe that she had Impressed such a beautiful perfect dragon. She really couldn't ask for anything better. But then she slipped her soft look off her face, replacing her grin and returning her gaze to the rider.
"Saw, felt, woken up by, all the same thing, right?" she subtly exagerated, letting a joking tone edge into her voice. She was in no way offended or angry and nothing in her tone or words suggested that. "Just a little. There's nothing wrong with getting a little wet. I am at the lake, aren't I?" Liassa laughed a little, brushing a lock of hair out of her eyes. She was a very easygoing person. It would take more than a little water to rile her up. She'd learned, though, that if she was angry, her dragon would get angry. So she didn't even bother to play being mad; she didn't want Tiaeth to wake up in a tizzy. That would not go over well. "I'm guessing your trip in the water wasn't as planned as his," she commented, motioning to the bronze in the water. The bronzerider's yell before he hit the water suggested that he wasn't exactly clued in on the idea of swimming. Points for his dragon.

“Some Hatching.” T’rid repeated Liassa’s words, but he inflicted a slightly sarcastic edge to it. “If, of course, you weren’t one of the Candidates who were mauled, crippled, or anything of that, I’m sure it would be absolutely lovely.” A sardonic grin flickered across his mouth.
You enjoyed the mauling, Corinth pointed out, truthfully. His eyes sparkled in amusement. But I suppose you don’t need that getting around, do you? The bronze blinked regretfully at the girl’s seeming indifference to being soaked. What kind of reaction was that? He wanted some yelling, some squealing. Or swearing, as his Rider had so beautifully demonstrated. He harrumphed, rather irritably. Can’t she at least pretend to be upset just a little bit? he commented in frustration. I didn’t go through all of that drama to be waved off!
T’rid glanced at the dragon in amusement. Relax, Corinth. You don’t need a tiny green dragon clinging to you squealing that you’ve upset her rider, do you? It’s all right. You made me mad enough. The girl’s interpretation on his…unexpected…entrance into the water startled him as well, but this time he didn’t let the emotion show on his face. He simply raised an eyebrow, regarding her quietly.
“Now that you mention it, I actually thought I was coming here to sleep, but apparently Corinth had other ideas.” He added a little dark ‘shading’ to Corinth’s name; the bronze rumbled softly, knowing the remark was made towards him. “I expect,” he added, looking at the sleeping green, “if you and your dragon were in our position, it’d be the other way around, wouldn’t it?”
The dragon could be a wher for all it seems to care about the sunlight, Corinth said, half in surprise and half irritated.

Liassa grimmaced a bit. "Yeah, a couple of my friends got hurt, but they're okay now. Savi even Impressed the gold!" Her frown quickly changed to a wide smile, "It all worked out. Most of those who were hurt Impressed. I suppose it was just a step. They knew what they were getting into when they went on the Sands." His tone didn't bother her. She could be sarcastic herself, but she was going to keep it evenly toned now. "No dragons went between," she added, " that always makes for a good hatching." She was going to defend her opinion of the hatching, because she was still convinced that it went very well, as far as hatchings were concerned. Maybe she was just a bit biased because she Impressed...
"I suppose," she answered, looking at her Tiaeth again. The green had curled into a ball, sound asleep. The only indication that she was still alive was the steady rise and fall of her chest. Every breath seemed to shake her body, simply due to how tiny she still was. "I don't think I could dive with her into the water, though. I mean, she's little, but not that little." She laughed a bit, laying her hand on the green's head. She was her precious Tiaeth, but if she could, she would throw the little one in the water. Well, if she wasn't scared of inflicting the green's wrath upon herself.
"I'm guessing that now you're too wet to sleep? Or did the cold water wake you up?" she asked, wondering how cold the water was. The spray of water that washed over her wasn't enough to help her determine the temperature. She wasn't going to get in the water unless it was very warm, that's just how it was for her. If getting in the water would make her cold, she was going to stay out of it and on her rock where she was very warm.

T’rid shrugged. “Great, we have a new Queenrider.” This time his voice was relatively toneless. Queens and their riders…didn’t interest him. Perhaps it was odd for a Bronzerider, but that was how he was. Corinth, on the other hand, was quite willing to go and flirt, but the queen had to start it. After all, he did have some dignity, although sometimes T’rid doubted that Corinth really cared about it at all. He grinned. “It’s a rare Hatching when dragons go between. They find someone. Even if it is the most despicable deadglow that ever cursed Pern,” he added thoughtfully.
I think you’ve had an experience with that, Corinth said shrewdly, rumbling softly at his rider’s almost arrogantly careless tone of voice. Whenever you talk like that, you’ve had an experience. I know it.
Oh, just this idiot that Impressed some blue that I once knew. T’rid shrugged, rubbing Corinth’s neck, which he had lowered to better get into the water. A few bubbles exploded from Corinth’s mouth, which was just underwater. He listened well enough when Liassa spoke. “Oh, sure you couldn’t,” he said, a smirk once more in place on his mouth, “She’s still little enough to be carried, I think.” Actually, it would be a bit of a struggle to carry the green, but exaggeration did exist. “Are you sure you’re not afraid of having your head bitten off?” Greens were like that—flighty. Temperamental, sometimes more so than a broody queen, and that was saying something, too.
He shrugged. “The water’s not that cold, anyway.” He sighed. “I’m sure it would get cold if I let it dry on me, though, or if I went between.” Which was a given. But sometimes you had to explain the most obvious of things to some Weyrlings. They were just stupid like that.

Liassa scowled at his reaction. Savitri was his friend after all. She was happy that the girl had Impressed and she was sure that she was going to be a great goldrider. T'rid's condescension was a little irritating. But she knew that if she let on that she was angry, it would probably only further the man's amusement. Hmm, thus began the dance, correct? So she let the grin fade from her face and just shrugged, "I suppose. Just one of the many, right?" she let the sarcasm drift a little into her voice. She grinned and then laid back down a little bit, propping herself up only on her elbows rather than her hands. "Then we agree that the hatching didn't go badly. No betweening means that it wasn't one of those rare bad hatchings." She had a feeling that he'd try to punch holes in her reasoning, but some part of her felt like she was winning.
She ignored his comment on the deadglows. She didn't know any of the other weyrlings enough to say that they were deadglows, though Celeyn was downright irritating. At least she didn't have to share a room with her. The girl she shared a room with was nice enough. They hadn't really gotten a chance to talk since candidacy though.
"Carried by you, maybe. Not by me anymore." Liassa was of shorter figure and she did have a quiet strength to her, but Tiaeth wasn't that small. She laughed at his comment on the green's temper. "She'd never bite my head off. I wouldn't suggest making me angry, though, she's shown quite a preference for biting heads off. She has quite a colorful vocabulary, I'm not sure where she learned it from." She raised her eyebrows before laughing. She had been known to curse quite colorfully, especially recently when she was struck by headaches or queasiness. She supposed that's where Tiaeth learned it from.
Liassa resisted the urge to roll her eyes at his next statement. Introducing Mister Obvious. Okay. So she was just a weyrling, but she knew that if you went between while you were wet, it would get just a little nippy. "I can't imagine why that would make you cold," she commented, carefully placing a puzzled look on her face that wasn't at all exaggerated. She could be good at this acting thing when given a chance. If he was going to assume that she was a bit of a deadglow, she decided she was going to act like one for a moment or two.

T’rid, who had turned his attention briefly to Corinth, half-turned back to Liassa, raising his eyebrow. “Being sarcastic, are we?” he asked, catching the note of it in her tone. It was just a bit, but a master of sarcasm knew enough to recognize sarcasm when he heard it. “Of course, I suppose she’s absolutely the most brilliant person who ever existed to you, hmm? She must be, of course, since a queen picked her…” It was hard to know how he could accuse Liassa of sarcasm, when the same stuff was positively dripping from his words.
Hypocrite, said Corinth, highly amused. T’rid patted the bronze hide, and went on, “I do admit that it was a nice Hatching.” He grinned, a bit of bloodlust in that grin. “Lots of mauling. Quite enjoyable.” It was kind of funny to see Candidates get mauled. Not because he particularly liked blood, but because he enjoyed their stupidity. Seriously, though. If a dragonet is heading right towards you, you’d better get out of the way. If it was your Weyr-mate, it would find you in the end whether or not it bashed you over first.
Anymore. She had said anymore. “So you tried it before?” T’rid asked, a slightly smirking grin on his face. It was hard to tell whether it was just playful or a total condescending type of thing. “Colorful vocabulary.” Well, then…a girl who swore. That was nice, you didn’t find one of those just around the corner. She probably hadn’t heard his vivid choice of words when Corinth had decided to take him for a swim, either, or else she’d have commented. That was…good. Or bad? It depended, really. That probably meant she hadn’t been spying for a while before he’d taken a…unexpected…swim.
He paused over her innocent gaze. Okay, wow. If she didn’t know that, then she had to be…but hmm. Was she just pretending? T’rid wasn’t exactly the most terrible actor either…If you can lie to anyone who crosses your path, I’m pretty sure you’re a good one, Corinth commented dryly. Well, maybe he’d just play along and either please her or scare her. It depended, but probably it wouldn’t scare her. And if she wasn't pretending, well, that was just fine, too. It would irritate her, hopefully.
“Well, if you don’t know that, then perhaps I’ll just have Corinth take you between for a bit.” He grinned irritatingly, the same grin that had driven several other men to attacking him.

Liassa grinned, “Never.” She wasn’t surprised that he caught her tone. She wasn’t exactly trying to hide it and he seemed like the type who could pick up on that sort of thing, on top of exercising it every once in a while, or most of the time. Oh yup, she was right. There it was. “No, but she’s a good sensible girl and I like her.” She defended her friend, but while keeping a smile on her face. She knew that he was just being a typical arrogant bronzerider. He could assume what he wanted about her opinions of Savitri. It didn’t really matter to her after all.
Liassa laughed at his twisted views. He was definitely an odd one. Living at the weyr, she’d met more unusual people, but this was definitely one of the top few. At least someone enjoyed the mauling, right? Not really, but whatever. “Of course. That’s always enjoyable.” She rolled her eyes and laid her back onto the rock. He was just being ridiculous now. It was hilarious. For a moment, she wondered if he was being serious or not, but then she decided that she didn’t want to know.
She grinned, “I was able to lift her onto the couch for the first few days after the hatching. By the end of the sevenday, though, I couldn’t.” Liassa didn’t mind that she couldn’t lift the little one. She was such a tiny, thin dragon, but she was growing rapidly in length. She was going to be a normal sized green, just thin and dainty looking, or at least that’s what Liassa thought. When he repeated her, Liassa raised her eyebrows, waiting for a comment or anything. But nothing came. Oh well.
It was so hard for her to maintain her look as she watched the bronzerider pause, trying to figure out if she was serious. Oh my, she was going to have fun with this one. “Oh no, I couldn’t. I—“ she paused a bit, thinking of the first time she…umm…met Swithin, drawing a blush to her cheeks, “I’m kind of scared of between.” She left it at that, not wanting to overdo it. She’d learned since the gold Flight how to blush on command. She just had to remember what she’d done and her cheeks would color instantly.

T’rid smiled innocently, pushing an errant stray of wet hair from his eyes. If he had been a girl, the smile would have been defined as ‘sweet’. “Sensible, hmm?” His eyes were suddenly solemn. “Do you know what sensible people are put on Pern to do?” He paused to give her a bit of time to think. “They’re here to make sure the rest of us don’t have too much fun, which is exactly why she Impressed a gold. Haven’t you ever seen a broody queen?”
When she went on about the mauling, this time, he didn’t need to make his face serious. It was naturally like that. “Of course it’s enjoyable. You’d think by watching five people get mauled before them they’d learn not to stand there looking like absolute deadglows when a dragon comes barreling at them with blood on its claws and death in its eyes, but…” He sighed, rather melodramatically, eliciting a chuckle from Corinth, “…they just never learn. Which is why it’s enjoyable. It’s funny to watch stupid people get hurt. Leaves more room for not-so-stupid people not to get hurt.” He cocked his head, studying her briefly. “You can’t say you’ve never laughed to yourself when some stupid boy got run over by a hatchling.” His voice was mildly surprised.
“Mm.” It seemed someone’s dragon was growing quickly. I grew fast, too, Corinth said as he blew more bubbles. Didn’t I? he added after a moment of contemplation. I can’t remember. Reassuring Corinth that he’d grown faster than a green ever did or would, T’rid returned to the topic. “So…think she’ll end up fat from too much sleep?” He raised his eyebrow, nodding at the apparently still-sleeping form of the green, even though she was far from fat.
The next words, he had to admit, startled him slightly. Scared of between. Well, it was unexpected for a Dragonrider, but still. Of course, T’rid reminded himself, there was always that chance she could be pretending. Lying was the easy way out, and he’d used it many times himself. Again, that awkward pause as he studied her intently. If she was pretending, she was good at it. So was he, though. T’rid sighed, running his hand through his hair to push it away from his face again. “Oh, really? That is a pity, though…I was just going to offer a ride on Corinth…I suppose you aren’t afraid of flying, are you?”
Seriously, what Weyrling in her right mind could pass up an offer of riding a dragon?

Liassa refused to let a frown on her face. If he kept on like this, she was going to have to put in a special request to her mother. It would do his good to eat some undercooked wherry for a month for insulting her friend. "Or they're here to make sure that the fun we have is safe and doesn't end with any extra betweenings," she answered, a musing tone to her voice. "I really don't know, I hadn't thought about it too much. Way over my head." Not true, she'd thought on the purpose of the hierarchy many a times before, but she figured it'd be better if he thought of her as some empty headed weyrling for now. It would make surprising him a whole hell of a lot easier.
Now wasn't he a bit revolting? "Have you ever tried to dodge a hatchling? I'm sure that running would definitely work. Of course. You can always see them coming," she answered, not trying to hide her sarcasm. He was a bit of a dimglow for a bronzerider, wasn't he? "And, no, I hadn't. Because everytime someone got hurt, it could have just as easily had been me," she answered truthfully. This time, her tone was open and honest, no act, no sarcasm. Everytime someone got clawed or mauled, she was right there. She could have been Savitri, sliced open before Impression. No, she was lucky, and she was going to grateful for that luck and pity those who got hurt. Not laugh at them.
Lia laughed at his next idea. "I don't think that my Tiaeth could get fat if she tried. Look at her! She's so thin! She's actually quite active when given an activity. But left without amusement to draw her on her feet, she likes to sleep. Maybe she'll grow out of it, she's still young." Liassa thought it was adorable and she supposed that once the endless cycle of eating and sleeping changed to include other timeslots, perhaps the little green would find something active she liked to do. Right now, though, she supposed there was no harm in letting her sleep. She certainly wasn't getting out of shape from it all.
He hadn't caught on. Or at least she didn't think he had. Good, that meant she could keep up her act. She toyed nervously with her hands as she sat up, switching her legs into a circle in front on her, crossed above the ankles. "Flying. No, I'm not scared of flying. I would love to ride your bronze. He's so large!" Again, she paused, making sure it was much shorter than last time, like she was trying to hide the pause. "Just can we not go to high up?" she asked. It was a clear indication that the weyrling was trying to avoid admitting that she was scared of heights when, in all actuality, Lia loved heights! Between had never bothered her. It was just too much fun to fool this bronzerider who thought that he had the upperhand in this situation.

T’rid stared at her, hovering between amusement and annoyance. Yes, it was fun to have someone to banter with; but seriously. She’d never thought about it? He shook his head, wishing he could dry his face off on something, but his sleeve was wet, so that wouldn’t do any good anyway. Corinth rumbled in amusement. Perhaps you should’ve thought about that before you dove in, hmm? Shut up, Corinth, he replied good-humoredly, and then shrugged at the girl. “There’s no such thing as ‘safe’ fun, haven’t you figured it out yet?” He grinned. “Flying is fun. It’s not safe, though; you could fall. And I’d like to see the dragon that can go between without its rider and catch you mid-fall. Jumping in a river is fun; and neither is that safe.” For more obvious reasons than flying, though.
“Why would I have to dodge a Hatchling?” he asked, shaking his head with a lazy grin. “There was no need to. I Impressed at Aslath’s clutch, you know; it wasn’t as if they would savage someone who didn’t deserve it.” T’rid realized, suddenly, that his wording would imply that some of her friends deserved being savaged. Ah well, that was all right. “Believe it or not, getting out of the way does work, especially if the person they want is standing right behind you. Or right beside you.” He shrugged, glancing absently towards the sun. It was getting on in time…he’d probably freeze if he got on Corinth and the bronze decided to go a little faster. Stupid wind.
When she glanced at the green, T’rid followed her gaze. She certainly was a delicate, fine-boned green, not like some of the hulking ones he’d seen around before. “So, she’ll definitely be in shape for Threadfall if she keeps up her sleeping, won’t she?” A small touch of sarcasm, but not much. She’s like a wher, Corinth said again, sounding nettled. What dragon doesn’t like to splash around at the daytime and sleep at night? I think she’s going backwards.
Great. Now she was afraid of heights. But seriously, what control did she have when she was on the back of a dragon other than her own, without fighting straps? None at all. Perhaps he’d just pop her between for a bit and see her reaction then. Of course he’d transported people who were terrified of between before, but that didn’t mean their reactions got any less amusing as time went on. T’rid drawled, “Of course we won’t go too high. You’ll let me know when we do, won’t you? Let me just go change into something dry. Corinth can amuse you while you wait.” He pulled himself out of the water, gave a small mock-bow, and headed towards the Weyr. Shard it all, of all the places the girl had to find him—in the river. Drenched. Shards.

Liassa decided that this was even more fun than messing with A'noan. She actually like T'rid. He was slightly opinionated and a little full of himself, but he was entertaining. And she was able to fool him with a few well placed words. "That's frightening," she responded, her eyes growing slightly bigger, "My mother always says that fun's only real fun if it's safe. Risky fun will just get you in trouble." Her mother never said anything of the sort, but it sounded good to her. If she asked her mother about fun, the woman would just glare at her and tell her to get back to work or say that she couldn't even think about fun until her chores were finished. Those were her words of wisdom.
Someone who didn't deserve it. Something about T'rid told Lia that he probably did deserve it, just a little. Instead, she just laughed. "The world isn't very fair. I'm sure that some unworthy people got mauled. You can't always dodge a blow, now can you?" He was the one who got dumped in the water by his dragon. He should have avoided that one. It would be the same as dodging a hatchling, right? You just didn't get on the dragon when you knew he wanted to get you wet. Not quite the same as getting mauled, but still just as avoidable? She kept those thoughts to herself. She couldn't have him thinking she was too sharp.
His sarcasm was cutting when it came to her Tiaeth. "I'm sure she'll be very fit. Maybe she'll like flying more than sleeping. She's still only a bit more than a hatchling. Give her a few months and then we'll see how in shape she is. If she gets fat, I'll concede to you. But I don't think she will. I think she'll be much more agile in the skies than people think." She was proud of her little green and she would make sure that she won that one and not the bronzerider. She had to get some victories that were obvious. Though her little hidden ones were just fine for her as well.
Before she could even respond to his question, he was bowing and leaving, heading back towards the weyr for some new clothes. Lia just kind of grinned, looking over at the bronze. "I would ask you for help waking up Tiaeth, but I don't think you want her angry with you. She's little, but she's ferocious when she's mad," Liassa admitted before returning her eyes to the slumbering green. Tiaeth, she murmured silently, prodding her gently with her mind. Sleepsleepsleepsleep, the little green answered groggily, uncurling her tail. Tiaeth, she repeated, a little more firmly. What? she asked, her voice clearly displaying that she wanted to go back to bed. I'm going to go for a ride, I'll be back, though, I promise, she told her bonded, laying her hand on the green's maw, shaking it gently to rouse her a bit more. Okay, sleep, was the only response she got. Shrugging, she turned back to the bronze, a grin on her face.

Corinth regarded the girl solemnly. Apparently he lost interest, for he sighed and pulled himself out of the water as well. It wasn’t like he could fly with his wings damp as they were. He raised them to the sun, letting the wind and warmth dry them, along with his hide. Are you nearly done? he asked T’rid plaintively. You may want to bring a towel or something unless you want to get your tail end wet. He received a pause, a mental laugh, and a reassurance that a towel would be brought. But not riding straps. The girl would have to figure out a way to hang on by herself. Just because he didn’t feel like getting them out. Are you coming yet? Corinth asked.
Have patience, you wherry-brained excuse of a dragon, T’rid answered gently. I’m slower when you don’t just send me between. In a few minutes’ time he was out, though. His hair was still damp, although there had been an obvious effort to dry it slightly, and it was still as messy as ever. The rest of him was dry, though. That was good, overall. “You ready, or have you backed out?” His smile was slightly taunting. Like she actually would back out if she had any dignity, whether or not she was quivering in her boots. “You want to fly in front or behind, O Lady of the Sleepy Green?” The sarcasm was positively oozing.
He moved towards Corinth and rubbed at the bronze hide with the towel he’d brought, drying it where they would be sitting.
