Meira was not very impressed with her three newest patients. Not only had they broken curfew, but they'd broken it badly. They'd troubled a Wingseconding Bronzerider, who ranked them in so many ways...and they'd all ended up hurt. Way to go. At least they weren't life-threatening...Meira sighed as she wiped her hands on a towel, drying off the water and regarding them with irritation, and wishing she had Zesa to help fetch things for her. Unfortunately, like these Candidates should be, though, the queen was asleep, curled up with Meisk. She was on her own. Great. Just great. "Sit," she directed wearily, fetching a clean cloth and gesturing for Cloar to take the chair nearest her as she frowned at him. "Quickly," she added, a bit more waspishly. "You're getting blood on my floors." Her comment elicited a slight snicker from the Bronzerider, who was standing a distance away as if to exclude himself purposely from the group. "You should probably sleep. I can get you something to help you if you want," Meira went on, unfazed by his bared chest, though she was usually wary of ranking men. The Infirmary made things different; here was where she was most confident, at her best.
He merely shook his head. "Nah. I'll drop dead when I get back to my Weyr. So, I'm leaving now. You three, no killing anyone, get back to bed right afterwards. You make 'em, Healer, if they won't." Meira shrugged wordlessly as the Bronzerider chuckled lightly again, leaving the Infirmary. His 'mandyr bobbed on his shoulder, pausing to add to Cloar, Is ugly assbutt! Stupid kill 'morra. Ugly see! Gold winged pet, help kill ugly? The last was directed at Meira, who frowned at the Salamandyr, her response drawing an amused trill from the 'mandyr before His quieted him and was off.
"Right." Meira faced the Candidates. "You all let me know if you're allergic to any of the herbs I use - I'll tell you about them before I apply them..." She drew her chair towards Cloar's, loathe as she was to close the distance between herself and the boy, pushing back his hair to view the extent of the damage and clicking her tongue, torn between sympathy and amusement. "Stupid did this?" she mumbled, swinging her chair around to pick up a small, soft cloth and dip into water that had been recently boiled. Without waiting for a reply, she caught him under the chin with one hand, holding him still. "This might hurt a bit...this is just water, I'm getting the dried blood off." Dabbing lightly at the puncture wounds, some of which seemed to go entirely through the cartilage, Meira frowned. "Not much I can do for this...other than clean it. No stitches...unless you want to keep it a piercing, just keep it clean and it'll grow back...hold still," she added impatiently, dipping the cloth in more water - lucky she'd gotten a shallow bowl of it, for as soon as she replaced the cloth in the water, red stained the clear liquid.
As soon as she finished, she swung off the bench, flicking through the cabinets. "Numbweed, redwort, yarrow. Allergic to any of it?" Meira queried of Cloar. Numbweed salve...a vial of redwort solution...a poultice of yarrow..."Well?" she asked, quirking one brow as she deposited her various medicines on the table in front of her. "It's a lot, I know, but the numbweed'll take away the sting, yarrow helps it heal, redwort cleanses...and infections in your ear are - really not much fun. You two..." she turned to Saeo and Raylin, though there was little recognition for Raylin, displeased as she was. "Hang in there. Nothing life-threatening? His is the most serious injury of your three. Why don't you amuse me? Why on Pern did you break curfew?"

Raylin watched T’rid leave unable to stifle a smile at Stupid’s parting words for Cloar. The dark haired candidate watched Meira work on Cloar for awhile and then scanned the room for the golden flitter she knew the girl possessed. Not finding Zesa in attendance and being distracted by Meira’s question she turned to the healer.
“Saeo left her book in the common room and drafted me to help her retrieve it. It was supposed to be a quick trip just there and back but Stupid made in unnecessarily complicated.” She explained quickly before Saeo could intervene. Honesty was probably best at this point, no sense lying any further. She fell silent after her statement drifting to other thoughts.
Raylin thought back to the dragon ride. It had been so exhilarating! She wished she could have had a longer ride. Bestride a flying beast like that there were no words to describe the way it made her feel. Riding runners was one thing, even the high strung ones she had liked to ride hadn’t pushed as much adrenaline into her system. She idly wondered if Corinth would remember them.
Then her thoughts moved to T'rid's arms around her his hands lightly touching her stomach. It gave her a queer tingling warm feeling. A feeling she couldn't really remember ever experiencing before. She shook her head to snap her thoughts back to the present.

Cloar held perfectly still as Meira washed his ear. The heat of the water did not bother him in the slightest. Heat he could handle. However ... having someone ... especialy a female ... handle him did drive willies up and down his spine in ways he could not quell. It was just plain uncomfortable. He had never liked being handled. Much less like she owned his very being. His face was completely relaxed as she worked, betraying none of his cramping sensations.
"I won't be wanting a pericing, no. And yes the runt did this to me. I swear I didn't provoke him in any way. I didn't even know he was there until he was attacking me." He told her. It wasn't quite true, but Cloar had totally forgotten about seeing the 'mandyr run into the common room carrying the scroll. All he remembered was getting attacked. It was the middle of the night, after all.
Cloar glanced at the bottles of herbs, and shook his head ever so slightly. "As far as I am aware, I am not allergic to anything." He said. "At least ... nothing I've come across so far. Those have been used on me before." He assured the healer.
He carefully ignored the rather irking remarks, expressions, and smirks by the others around him. He wasn't about to lower himself to thier level by acknowledging them with even a look. They didn't deserve his attention. While he was aware he was a very low-ranking individual both by youth and station, he did have more self-worth than to grace the likes of that with a response.

Saeo grinned, folowing Raylin's gaze as the bronze rider departed. She decided that she liked this T'rid fellow, despite the poor circumstances of their introduction. He was of a decent sort, the kind that didn't take themselves or the world around them too seriously. She hadn't met a man like that in a long while...
She only realized that she had been staring at the empty doorway in a rather dazed state when Raylin's voice destracted her from her musings. A half-scowl that was really more of a pout creeped across the girl's features. So much for discretion -didn't Raylin realized that just because T'rid hadn't reported them to Kemma didn't mean that the healer wouldn't?
"Everyone is so quick to blame the salamandyr."
She sighed defeatedly, slumping cross-legged to the ground.
"If I were to blame anyone, it would be that sharp stone I fell on top of this afternoon. If it hadn't been for that vicious attack I wouldn't have had to come here to get my arm patched up, and in turn would have been able to get to the common room to find my book before it slipped my mind. I wouldn't have woken up Raylin and...well, I still don't know what you were doing Cloar."
The candidate cast her eyes dismally around the almost empty room. She wished fervently that their ride on the gorgeous bronze creature who looked to T'rid could have been longer -much longer. She had wanted the opportunity to savour her first dragon ride, but the creature traveled so swiftly that before her eyes could even adjust to the darkness outside they had reached the infirmary and were forced to dismount. What a perfectally wretched way to end such a magical adventure! She had hoped at the very least that the handsome young healer she'd seen earlier in the sevenday would be on duty... Oh give over Saeo, she chided herself, allowing her attention to slowly drift back toward Cloar and Miera. You got to ride a dragon! It's simply greedy to ask anything else of one evening.
"Oh, are you absolutely certain?"
She quirried with a slight pout as the boy mentioned his disinterest at putting Stupid's attack to use.
"I think you'd look quite charming with a pierced ear -I even have an earring I could give you since I've lost the matching one."
Has it been anyone but Saeo speaking, the remark could have been misconstrued as taunting scarcasm. As it was though, the girl really did find the idea of Cloar with an earring appealing. She imagined that it might keep the people he met interested in him long enough to realize that his personality wasn't as unfailingly dull as it first seemed.

((OoC: It amuses me that both Raylin and Saeo like T'rid...while he probably cares nothing for them. <<))
Meira couldn't repress the slight sigh, torn between amusement and annoyance at Cloar's response to her question. How could you not see a Salamandyr bolting towards you? Sure, they were small, but they weren't that small. Whatever. She merely shrugged, dropping the topic as she nodded slightly. No allergies; that made everything a lot simpler, though she could probably find substitutes, like whitebulb or fellis or something...upturning the vial of redwort into a new cloth, she secured Cloar's chin again, an automatic gesture as she dabbed on the solution. Would it sting? A little, yes, but it was better than any infection. (And if, afterwards, he came back with an infection, she'd just throw a whitebulb at him. It wouldn't be her fault.)
The explanation made her bite her lip, her eyes sliding from Cloar to Raylin, one brow raising in disbelief, and then slight anger. She had broken curfew. Because of a book? "What book is that important?" she asked dryly, and felt first Meisk, and then Zesa, wake in the back of her mind, stirring, both draconic Bondeds sending Theirs a questioning feeling. She responded with a silent, loving reassurance, and felt Meisk curl up again, but Zesa was not so easily sated. A blast of cold air announced the queen's silent arrival from between as she rolled over in the air, confident as Meira in the Infirmary, spinning between Raylin and Saeo and coming to a perch on the top of one of the cabinets, since Hers was occupied with someone. The Healer stopped dabbing the redwort onto Cloar's ear, clicking her tongue in slight annoyance. "I thought you were asleep," she accused the queen, recieving a slightly abashed hum in response. She sighed, shrugged. Though fairly confident that if she told the queen to return to her apartment, she would, Meira was slightly relieved for the flitter's company. Zesa could always cheer her up, and now was no exception.
Saeo's comment about blaming a rock, no less, made Meira raise one eyebrow again, sniffing mildly as she put the cloth down - the bleeding had stopped by now; only a faint rusty stain was left on the white of the cloth - and picked up the jar of numbweed salve. "Blame whoever you like, but that doesn't change the facts," she commented dryly. "You came to the Infirmary before? Who was on duty?" A slight frown flickered across the senior apprentice's mouth as she selected another corner of the cloth and rubbed the salve onto it, carefully applying it to Cloar's ear on both sides. "When it stops hurting," she directed, "Let me know, and we'll put on the yarrow and put on a bandage, awkward though it'll undoubtedly look."
With a slight snort for Saeo's comment regarding Cloar getting a piercing, the healer turned to Zesa. "Ze, are you awake enough to get me some things?" An affirmative flute as the queen rolled onto her feet from where she'd been lazily lapsed, regarding them. "All right. I need...a roll of bandages, and a new cloth. One of the small ones. Okay?" With another affectionate croon, Zesa took to wing. "You - what's your name?" she queried, gesturing at Saeo. "You're not allergic to any of these, are you? Same things as him. Redwort, numbweed, yarrow?"

((OOC : Lol Raylin has never had a guy touch her at all before in any way. It’s just something new for her. Don’t worry Avu I am not pursuing your character XD. She’s just idly thinking.))
Raylin uttered a small gasp as Zesa winged into the room. She directed her attention to the gold lizard, watching as she perched serenely on the cabinet. She watched as Meira directed the lizard and Zesa flew off to obey her. “Wow firelizards are very smart aren’t they?” She asked the healer. Keeping her eyes glued to Zesa’s golden form.
She felt her lids getting heavy. She really hoped this wouldn’t take too much longer. She stifled a yawn and tried to look more alert realizing that she was failing miserably.
((Sorry for the major suck-age couldn’t think))

Cloar carefully didn't wince as the solutions were applied to his ear. Some of them stung like dragonfire! But he held still, letting Meira work unhindered. Though being continually grabbed by the chin was a rather strange experience. That was something he thought he'd left behind when he'd grown taller than his mother's apron.
"I was only up because I heard a lot of racket going on." Cloar offered, during one of the times that his jaw was free for the saying of it. He didn't try to offer any excuses or explanations for his dicision. It was just the simple truth, something that he figured would get him in the least trouble.
His eyes tracked the golden flitter as she first arrived, and then perched. Well ... that was a pretty thing. But he hoped that she stayed a goodly long ways away from him. He was not in any mood to be getting bitten again.
By anything.

(( In Saeo's defense, T'rid became a genderless object the moment Raylin started blushing at him. There will be matchmaking. XD ))
I'll have you know that my book is that important, Saeo thought with irritation as she glowered ineffectively at a the leg of a nearby chair. How perfectally presumptuous this healer was, assuming that simply because it was just a book it was unimportant! Everyone was entitled to a prized posession, and what that posession was shouldn't make any difference as to-
A sudden rush of freezing air on her skin drew a surprised squeek from the girl. She caught a flash of gold in the corner of her eye that identified the perpitrator, and swung her head around just in time to catch sight of a golden fire lizard landing atop one of the nearby cabinets. She was quite a pretty little thing, this queen.
"Well, being stupid generally sours an impression, wouldn't you think?"
Saeo taunted gently in response to her friend's comment, her confusion slowly giving way to facination as she examined Zesa. Suddenly, she realized that she was being spoken to, and so tilted her head to the side to reguard Meira from an odd angle.
"Umm...I didn't get a name. She was a young woman -light brown hair, large breasts, a nice laugh- quite charming really."
She really ought to ask for names more often, Saeo decided. They were just so much more practical than giving descriptions. Carefully, the girl climbed to her feet, brushing dust off her nightgown and moving delicately to Meira's side
"It's Saeo...I'm not allergic to any of those, just canines -and sweet sand makes my skin itch."
She'd brought her own supply of Lanolin based soap from home for that sepcific reason, as one could assume that only the more common sweet sand would be availible at the Weyr. It was for that particular reason most of her bathing took place in the early morning -or failing that, the men's bath house. (so long as it was empty) For whatever bizzare reason, the men's bathing pool was empty a lot more often than the women's was...

((lol, she can stalk away; I was just amused.))
If Zesa was aware of being watched, she gave no sign of it as she returned with the items she'd been sent to get, a roll of bandages around one foreclaw and a cloth in the other. "The counter, please," Meira directed automatically, and the queen deposited them there with a soft croon before she took wing to the top of the cabinet again. Picking up the cloth and examining it for flaws, Meira smiled slightly at Raylin's and Saeo's interchange, shrugging lightly. "Quite. She picks up on things really fast; it's really a simple thing to train her." And it had been too; Zesa understood perfectly what was being said, it seemed, and now, she could even differentiate between different herbs if Meira added an image to her words. "Aren't you, Ze?" she added affectionately to the queen, who responded with an affirmative flute, eyes whirling blues and greens of joy as she folded her wings delicately against her sides.
Shrugging at Cloar's explanation, Meira bit back a frown as she ran the faces of the healers through her mind, but was unable to pinpoint who it had been. Possibly - Savitri? But...more likely one of the apprentices. "Doesn't matter," she sighed, nodding at her comment. Canines and sweetsand. None of those involved in this process, at any rate. (Surprise, surprise, the healer thought with light sarcasm.) The Healer nodded approval as the girl moved towards her, pushing her sleeve back lightly to examine the wound, clicking her tongue lightly as she poured a little more water into another tray, drawing it towards her and dabbing water onto Saeo's arm. As soon as it was clean, no longer bleeding, she dried it in dabs and then retrieved another vial of redwort solution, blotting it onto the cloth. Drawing her chair back next to Saeo, she dripped the solution onto the wound. "It'll sting," she added belatedly, a rueful grin flickering across her face. "Should've probably warned him, too, but...
"And that reminds me," she went on, remembering. "I'll need all of your names. I've got Saeo - Raylin? - and - ?" One eyebrow went up as she shot a questioning glance at Cloar. Putting down the cloth and the vial, she rubbed some of the numbweed salve onto the wound. "Let that sit until it doesn't hurt anymore...then, like him, let me know when it does, and I'll get the bandage on. Now...Raylin? What's the problem?" The girl seemed to have no bleeding, external or internal, on first sight; neither did she seem to be in any excrutiating pain. A slight frown quirked one side of her mouth. "Unless you want some fellis to help you get back to sleep...? By the way, Ze," she added, turning back to the queen, "Get me the pencil, yes? And the record paper."
The queen fluted again, launching herself into the air and winging across the Infirmary as Meira absently pushed the stack of numbweed leaves away from the pail of water. Apparently, it was to be used for something, and that something was, thanks to Saeo, Raylin, and Cloar, not washing numbweed in preparation for making Threadscore salve. Ah well...she could get around to that later, though it would have been better had it been fresh...but it didn't matter too much. If it did, she'd be more than a little irritated.

“When I tripped over Saeo I think I twisted by ankle.” She stretched her leg out and looked down at the offending appendage. It was becoming swollen now. She moved in slightly and winced. She had had worse injuries like the time she cracked her ribs when Tak and thrown her. The thought of her faithful runner saddened her a bit. She hoped he was doing well.
“I think I will be able to sleep ok once I get back to the barracks.” She finished and glanced over at Saeo. Climbing up into the top bunk painlessly was going to be another matter entirely. “What’s the paper for?” She asked Meira not even bothering to disguise her curiosity.

"Cloar." Cloar said, simply. He figured that the shortest most direct answers were the best at the moment ... eleminating the various verbal nets that he might find himself in. Right now, he was wishing he was still in his bunk, drowning in his own sweat. That would be far preferable than having word get back to his father that he'd broken a rather basic rule ...
But that wasn't the worst of it. He hoped that the infringement wasn't going to cost him his chance at a dragon. That would be the worst thing! While a rather adventurous and active sort, Cloar usually did try to stay within the rules ... breaking rules, for someone in his stature, usually had very stiff repercussions.
"It's not stinging anymore." Cloar reported, dutifully. He hoped he could get back to his bed sooner rather than later. He was starting to actually be sleepy now ... and again he hoped that he hadn't caught anything from that ... frilled rat.

"Owie!"
She flinched, moaning plaintively in a high soprano as the damp cloth came in contact with her arm. It wasn't the stinging of water in an open wound that bothered her -stinging she could handle- but the injury that falling onto a sharp rock caused was a lovely patchwork of torn flesh and incredibly tender bruising that hurt when even the lightest of pressures were applied. That coupled with the girl's low pain threshold forced her to bite her lower lip to keep her eyes from watering.
"Just do it quickly please..."
Saeo murmured as she was warned about the stinging redwort solution. She knew all about the stinking, stinging stuff healers used to clean wounds. She'd taken enough trips to the healers around Selenitas Hold for chemical burns, cuts, scrapes and the occasional animal bite to understand the process rather clearly by now -not that it made sitting there and going through it any more pleasant- but by squeezing her eyes shut and gripping the edge of her seat, she managed to stay silent and motionless until the numbweed has been applied.
When Meira has finished, she stood as gracefully as her numbweed-scented thoughts would allow, and wandered back to Raylin's side. She plopped herself down onto the floor, taking a few deep breaths in an attempt to locate her proper state of mind, but the mention of pencil and record paper managed to draw her back quite easily. A cold, heavy feeling of dread settled in the pit of her stomach. Oh no, she wasn't going to report them to Kemma, was she? Oh no, oh please, oh please no! She didn't know what the candidatemaster would do to them if word got back to her that they'd broken curfew, but in her state of paniced destress she was willing to belive that cutting them out of the impression ceremony was a definate possibility.

Twisted ankle. Hmm. There really wasn't much she could do with that...apply ice to keep the swelling down, perhaps, but that was...just about all. Meira frowned vaguely, squatting to run her fingers lightly over the swollen joint, head cocked to one side slightly. "It's just twisted, right..." she muttered, and shrugged slightly. "I'll get some ice to bring down the swelling, but you'll just have to keep off of it as much as possible. It should heal within a tenday or so, it's not serious." Another slight shrug as she straightened, wiping off her fingers, one brow quirking slightly at Raylin's question. Wasn't /she/ subtle?
As Zesa returned with the paper and pencil, she remained silent, dating the paper and adding the time - half a candlemark past midnight - and then writing the Candidates' ranks, names, and injuries. "Healers keep records too," she answered after she'd finished, Zesa having taken up a perch on the cabinet again, tail flicked idly around her haunches, eyes half-lidded as she watched Hers. "Believe it or not," she added, a bit cynically. "Surely you've had Archive Duty?" Signing her name at the bottom of the parchment, she pushed it away from her again. "I'm not going to report you this time, though I'm tempted to, but if I hear of any of you breaking curfew again, I will have this to show Candidatemaster Kemma. It won't even be difficult, considering she's in the Infirmary now, too."
At Cloar's comment, she nodded, skirting Raylin and Saeo, commenting to Raylin, "Hang on a minute, okay? I don't need his whole ear going numb." She picked up a cloth, wiping off the oily numbweed salve as gently as possible, and picking up the jar of the yarrow poultice, smearing it carefully over the bite marks. Unrolling a length of bandage, she wrapped it around the Candidate's ear, securing it off by tucking one end under the other. It looked...awkward, but then it was rare that she needed to bind someone's ear. Besides, she'd done it as securely as she could while still keeping the amount of bandage to a minimum. Not her fault if he overbalanced or something. With a slight, vague frown, she stepped back, head cocked to evaluate her work, and then clicked her tongue slightly, adjusted it, and then stepped around to Raylin again.
"Cloar, you can probably go, unless you want to stay here or wait for them." Meira bent down at Raylin's leg again, clicking her tongue in slight sympathy as she felt the appendage again, carefully, and then straightened, her words still directed at Cloar. "If at all possible, eat whitebulb; it keeps down the infection...make sure it stays clean, come back if there's any redness, heat, swelling, tenderness, etc." That was usually a taken-for-granted, but...well, it was past midnight and he looked like he wanted to just curl up and sleep. Better she told him...
As she headed off for the ice, a thought came to her. Cayenne Pepper. An oil. Apply to sprains...Meira turned around completely again, returning empty-handed and peering into the cabinet carefully, fingers flicking over the contents until they closed around a vial of oil, pulling it out and holding it to the light. Satisfied, she raised her eyebrow, opening her palm to display the oil to Raylin. "Allergic? Cayenne pepper oil. It helps with joints..."

Raylin nodded at Meira. “I will try to keep off it which shouldn’t be too hard considering our classes haven’t started yet. Besides archive duty not much is going on for me right now.” She heard Saeo’s sharp intake of breath as Zesa returned with the parchment and Meira sat down to write. She turned toward her younger companion and tilted her head. What was she worried about?
Meira’s voice distracted the candidate from her scrutiny of Saeo and she heard the girl’s sigh of relief as Meira spoke. Ah she must have thought that Meira was going to report them, which was a valid assumption, considering their present situation. “Saeo and I have Archive duty right now. It’s normally quite boring. I usually stick to the records on thread falls, hatchings, and flights. The medical records tend to be boring for the most part.” She trailed off as she watched Meira work on Cloar. “Kemma is in the infirmary?” Raylin’s voice was full of concern. “Is she sick? Is that why we haven’t had any lessons yet?” She hated to think that they would miss out on lessons that could help them when it came time for impression.
The candidate sat quietly musing as Meira dug through the cabinet again. When the healer addressed her Raylin shook her head. “I have no allergies that I am aware of.” She turned to watch Zesa again, the lizard looked tired, and anyone would be considering the time.

Cloar held still as Meira worked on his ear. The whole thing felt ... really weird. He couldn't feel his ear at all, now ... he wondered if he could still hear out of it. Which, when one thought about it, was a really silly thought. But that didn't occur to Cloar. The bandage on his ear was only feelable by the places where it touched his head. Which was even weirder.
"Yes, ma'am." Cloar said, in response to Meira's orders/suggestions on his diet, and how and when to take care of the bite. At least she hadn't said anything about contracting some weird disease from the runt of a lizard. That was a releif. Maybe he wouldn't catch anything.
Kemma was in the infirmary? That was a little concerning to hear. "What happened to Kemma?" Cloar asked. He rather liked the candidate master ... she tended to make sense, more often than not. Which was good ... really good ... for someone coming into the weyr knowing absolutely nothing about what really went on in a weyr.
Cloar was tempted to run off and get back to bed as quickly as he could manage ... but something told him not to. "I'll wait." He said. Maybe the two girls would need help getting back ... even if it was only someone strong enough to row the boat. That swollen ankle didn't look so good...
