She would have been embarrassed had it not been for the veritable flood of adoration coming from both of her mindmates, and for the baby in her arms. The goldrider had asked Jingth to fly her to Blossom Hold at noon – a straight flight, given that the pair couldn’t go between yet – and they’d just arrived. It was still relatively early; the sun was still quite high, and she’d only gotten Riaren by promising that R’wign could have him back before the Storyteller Competition, which she supposed he was planning on entering. Maybe she’d watch, then, even though Meira wasn’t quite sure what it was yet. Currently, she was fussing with Riaren’s “costume”. More accurately, the black one-piece with the skeleton on it, to match R’wign’s costume. It was cute, though Meira admitted it would probably make more sense when he was with R’wign. The baby’s eyes were wide open, his concentration clearly not on his mother as he stared around himself at the Gather on all sides. Vibrant colors, enticing smells – it was certainly a sight new to the baby, and though his hands clutched the front of her dress, he certainly wasn’t paying attention to what his mother was doing.
Perhaps good, given that Meira wasn’t exactly comfortable currently. Jingth had assured her she looked lovely, and Mimic had agreed so enthusiastically that the brown had almost bounced right off of her shoulder when he’d been saying it, but Meira didn’t quite agree. She was too pale to really look good in black, but there wasn’t really any other color she could wear that would be acceptable to a Gather to honor the dead, and she hadn’t expected to. But she hadn’t had a black dress and asking the Headwoman for one had resulted in a dressing session that had left her completely bewildered and with this current dress – made from cotton, decidedly on the casual side. The sleeves, loose, fell on either side of her shoulders, the actual dress having a ‘sweetheart’ top and flowing without any real indication of a waistline into the skirt, which ended just above her knees. Generally a very girlish style as opposed to elegant or regal in any way, but black was almost too formal for her anyways. Her hair had been pulled up, too, and it left her feeling rather unsettled. Her hair was often pulled up, but only in places she was familiar with (i.e. the Infirmary), and she just felt…extremely pale, especially compared to most of the dolphineers and others at Blossom Hold.
Beauty pretty LoveMine, Mimic assured her. The brown Salamandyr was curled around Riaren’s wrist, a brown bracelet, but his eyes were busy roaming the Gather as well; there was no disguising his delight with this exciting new world around him. He was positively bursting with excitement, Mimic was, quivering against Riaren’s wrist. The baby didn’t even notice him, or likely he would have been patting the Salamandyr, so distracted was the baby skeleton, a smile lighting up his eyes as he turned his head every which way, occasionally giggling softly when something happened to catch his eye and amuse him. So fun. So bright love bright fun, the Salamandyr went on, more to himself than to Meira, who cast the tiny creature who was cuddled against her collarbone (given that was where Riaren’s wrist was) an affectionately amused look. She had a habit of thinking of Mimic as a baby – never mind that he’d actually Chased Aliene. He was naïve enough, innocent, trusting, adoring enough, to pass for a baby, anyway.
Both arms wound tightly around Riaren, adjusting him slightly, before Meira entered the crowd. She’d deliberately left off her knots that day, in an attempt to go unnoticed. Slipping through the crowds, feeling conspicuous by her lack of company (most people had come with friends, at the very least, after all), Meira finally ended up at the stall she’d pushed through the crowd to get to. Mimic actively squealed in happiness and Riaren gurgled, squealing softly like an echo of the brown Salamandyr before he clapped both hands together softly. Certainly not loudly enough to be audible – just to signal his approval. The Toy Stall. The bright blue stall, draped with toys of all kinds, could hardly fail to please a child, after all, and though Riaren had his favorite toys – the blue stuffed firelizard T’san had bought for him remained his favorite – Meira was sure he would be pleased by more and yes, she was spoiling him.
So pretty! Mimic scrambled to lean forward avidly, crooning, and Riaren smiled up at the shopkeeper before he leaned forward, one hand still fastened to the sleeve of Meira’s dress, to run chubby fingers across one of the blue dolphin dolls. This one, he liked…the same color as his stuffed firelizard, it was.
Buy him something to eat, Jingth suggested helpfully; the youngest of Selenitas’s golds was sprawled with a complete lack of elegance on the outer rim of the Hold, eyes closed contentedly in the sun – wasn’t it nice and warm? Holders who approached her went primarily ignored. She’d started off crooning pleasantly at the Holders in general, but there were far too many to hold the gold’s interest for very long. What Hers was doing was so much more interesting. Hatchlings like to eat.

For a change, she actually wanted to come to this Gather. The idea of celebrating the lives of those who had been lost in the last few years instead of mourning them, appealed to her. They deserved to be remembered and celebrated, for they had been cried over for too long a time now. Dressed in a bright mossy green dress that fell just above her knees, Kaegan did her best to keep her son from unclasping the broach that held her lavender cloak on her shoulders. "Kai, honey, no." Of course, Kai was dressed with a bit more meaning in brown and blue, to honor the memory of his father who had passed away. /It makes sense, this Gather. It has a deep meaning to our people, other than to celebrate my eggs of course. I will go now, I have been to far away from my eggs, and I do not trust that the dragons watching them are doing an adequate job. Send the littlebronze when you need me./ "Say, Byebye Milli. Say, byebye." The Weyrwoman smiled as waved Kai's little hand jauntily after her Dragon. Millieth rarely left her eggs, and when she did she practically ordered dragons on pain of death to guard them carefully. But fortunately, as was said, that rarely ever happened.
"Speaking of Azzie, were is he?" A small chittering noise from her cloth bag alerted Kaegan to her Firelizard's presence. "Oh there you are." Balancing Kai with one hand and using the other to fish out her Flitter, she got a surprise when she opened the flap. Apparently Dash had also come along for the ride. "Dash! I told you to stay at home!" But no leave I, you go I go. Azflit go, I go too. "Fine but... Kai, mommy's hair is not to suck on... you stay on the opposite shoulder." Watching as Dash caught a ride on Azaran, Kaegan already felt burdened and she hadn't gone shopping yet. "Azzie will you fly for a while, I can't carry you and Kai." Shooing him gently off of her shoulder, Kaegan adjusted her grip on her son before entering the lively throng.
Buy toy for hatchling? "Yes." Buy toy for Dash too? "Nice try, no. I'm not buying you a toy. You have all of my jewelry to play with back at the Weyr. I even gave you a few to keep." Shiny they are yes. I like. Azflitter tries stealing the shinnies, I say no. "Good for you. But you try and steal /his/ shinnies too. Maybe if you don't steal his, he won't steal yours." That made the Brown Salamandyr fall silent, she knew he was thinking about whether it would play out like that. The break in conversation allowed her to switch her attention back onto her son. Her son. It always felt like she was testing that claim, it was hard for her to believe even now that he was really her child. But on the other hand, there was no doubt that he was. It didn't help having a baby when Millieth had a clutch on the sands either. Kaegan had become very protective over Kai right around the time Millieth had laid her clutch of thirteen.
Kai was a shy baby, preferring to watch the people around him through his mother's curls and over her shoulder than anything else. Especially when there was so many people out and about. Kaegan had deliberated heavily on whether or not to take him with her, but in the end thought he would be fine as long as he had his stuffed firelizard with him. It was strange how much he was fascinated with Firelizards and the like, they seemed to be the only thing to quiet him when he was crying. Millieth still scared him sometimes, as did most of the big dragons, but Weyrling Dragons and Whers he seemed [for the most part] comfortable around. It was people that made him nervous. Smoothing out the wrinkles in is light blue shirt, Kaegan made a few noises as she moved his stuffed firelizard around, drawing giggles from the young boy.
Eventually she made it to the stall that she had been looking for, happy to see it gussied up so cheerfully and inviting. It also reminded her of the stuffed puppy that R'wign had given her at the last Gather, the one she had sitting on her bed next to her own Firelizard plushie. Raumy and Reimius. Yes, she did in fact name her stuffed animals. Looking up in time to avoid bumping into another shopper, she was going to move past her, that was until she realized who the other woman was. Changing her position so that she stood next to the Weyrling, Kaegan bounced Kai slightly before addressing the other. "Meira? Hello there, I guess we had the same idea." She paused for a moment to fix the other with a smile. "That must be Riaren. He's very cute." And his eyes were unusual, a very vivid green. Unlike Kai's who were still brown, although they were lightening as time progressed.
Kai, fascinated by all of the toys around him noticed the other baby a while after his mother had. Curling his arms around Kaegan's neck, the boy gurgled slightly before resting his head against her chest. Everything was so exciting, it was hard to take in all at once. But now he was surrounded by toys, soft things that he liked. His gaze was diverted from Riaren only when a shift in position gave him an accidental glance at the plush Dragon animals. He was immediately hooked and began the process of staring all over again.

Eat yummies~ “We’ll get food after this, okay? Neither of you are hungry…?” The words were directed at both Salamandyr and baby, though only one of them was old enough to actually comprehend what she was saying. Riaren looked up from the dolphin doll to smile widely at his mother before his gaze returned to the merchandise piled up around the stall. The keeper of said stall seemed to be occupied with two little girls, but Meira didn’t mind; she still didn’t exactly know what she was planning on buying for Riaren. Probably not one of the plush dragons, though, given that his stuffed firelizard was close enough to being the same thing. Meanwhile, Mimic had uncurled his tail from Riaren’s wrist to lean down and inspect the dolphin toy that the baby had been touching before, after licking Meira’s fingers and assuring her, No hungry, love you prettyMine! A distracted smile crossed the goldweyrling’s face before she leaned forward to pick up the dolphin doll, turning it over and holding it within Riaren’s grasp.
Just as the baby reached out to grab at it, Meira leaning her cheek against his head gently, Kaegan’s voice made her lift her head, turning to look at the other goldrider. Surprise flickered through her eyes before she smiled in greeting, Mimic slithering up to Riaren’s shoulder to peer curiously at Kaegan and Kai. Riaren, too, turned, his head resting against his mother’s collarbone as he studied the new person curiously. She wasn’t someone he was familiar with, and neither was Kai, but he flashed the Senior Weyrwoman a smile anyway as Meira put the dolphin doll back on the stand in his distraction. One hand released Meira’s sleeve and Riaren wiggled his fingers in a clumsy, but undeniable, wave towards the Weyrwoman and Kai. The smile widened slightly as Mimic cooed pleasantly from his shoulder, the Salamandyr rubbing his body against Riaren’s cheek and flaring both wings in greeting to the newcomers.
“Hi – ” A slight laugh as Meira looked down at her armful, crinkling her nose. “Yes, this is Riaren” – the baby smiled widely at the mention of his name, green eyes focusing on Kaegan’s face for a moment; he recognized his name, after all, and he liked it when people paid attention to him – “and – um, yeah, I don’t have anything else I need to buy, so…” A shrug, before she glanced back at the stall. Kaegan wasn’t someone she was entirely comfortable with. Not that she didn’t like the other goldrider, but she’d had almost no contact whatsoever with her and she wasn’t entirely sure how to behave around the Senior Weyrwoman. Most people claimed Kaegan was…skittish, but Meira wasn’t entirely sure whether or not that helped her. Her gaze flickered back to Kaegan, though this time Meira’s smile was directed towards Kai, reassuring, encouraging. “Kai, isn’t it?” she inquired softly, nodding at the other babe. “Um,” she added; her nose crinkled – “are there prices or something, or do we have to ask…?” The dolphin doll was cute, after all, and it was reasonable to buy a dolphin doll at Blossom Hold.
Kai, Mimic echoed, chirruping pleasantly at the unfamiliar baby. The Salamandyr adored human babies, and as far as he could tell, they liked him, too – certainly Riaren did, but Riaren didn’t really dislike anyone. Terilyn had, too; Mimic remembered that because it had delighted him to no end. The Salamandyr liked being liked. The brown curled his tail around Riaren’s wrist as the baby twisted to tug on his tail gently, licking the baby’s fingers, before he bounced forward and crooned at Kaegan. Say hi, may I? he inquired politely. Yes, he was asking for permission to land on her; he wanted to lick both goldrider and baby (but mostly baby!), but Meira had already impressed upon him that it was rude to just go climbing on people he didn’t know without permission, so he was asking it. Why it was rude, he had no idea, because he was always incredibly careful with his claws, but apparently it was and LoveHis couldn’t be wrong!
Millieth’s. Jingth didn’t sound entirely pleased with the arrangement, but the underlying silk in her tone made it clear she wouldn’t actively protest. Well. /Do/ have a good time. Her voice was suspiciously sweet. Meira decided not to ask; probably better she didn’t know. As it was, the gold’s motives were surprisingly simple. She couldn’t prove that she was better than Millieth (though it was obvious, was it not?), since technically the Senior queen could order her around, but her Rider and her hatchling were certainly better than Millieth’s Rider and her hatchling – she’d take what she could get.

Wiggling her own fingers back at Riaren, Kaegan shifted Kai with her other arm. The movement drew Dash out into the open, crawling out from the depths of the Weyrwoman's hair. Crawling to the very edge of her shoulder, the Brown Mandyr flicked his frill up in greeting. More interested in his smaller counter part than the others that he was with. "Yes. This is Kai, he's just a little bit shy." Bouncing him again, Kaegan swept a bit of his brownish hair off of his forehead, turning slightly to see what he was looking at. She smiled. Of course he would find those out of all of the other stuffed animals. Speaking of which, she quietly looked for the stuffed Flitter until she found it stuck between Kai's body and her own. Removing it from its hiding place, Kaegan kept it in one hand as she supported her son with both arms. "Well if they don't have a little price list somewhere, I suppose the only thing to do is ask one of the attendants."
For a moment, the voice in her head sounded like Dash, making her wonder why he was asking permission to do something. It took her a moment to realize that it had in fact been Meira's Salamandyr that bespoke her. "Oh hello. Yes, you can come say Hi. Dash be nice." I is nice! I never not nice. And to mimic he said, Yesyes. Hi to beautifulmine and hatchling! I Dash. I Dash. You? Crawling backward so that Mimic had a place to land, the older Brown flicked his frill up and down happily. He was happy to share his Hatchling with the other Mandyr, the other Brown seemed nice enough. He was polite too, which made Dash warm up to him faster.
"Lets see..." Searching around the tables nearest to her, the Weyrwoman tried to locate any sort of pricing slate. Maybe they would have to ask the assistants, although, most stalls had that one on one aspect. In her searching, she had wondered dangerously close to the plush dragons, making Kai babble excitedly. "Well I don't see any over here, so we might have to ask for the prices. Do you see any?"

Another Salamandyr. Eep. Mimic nearly toppled right off of Riaren’s shoulder in his surprise as Dash emerged, though the reaction was one spurred from delight. The brown Salamandyr loved meeting new people and new Salamandyrs and everything about today had him absolutely thrilled. His frill was displayed, though there was nothing aggressive about it, before he actively bounced on Riaren’s shoulder, ignoring for the moment the baby’s hand grasping at his tail lightly. Kaegan’s words were completely ignored in his excitement, though it wasn’t intended as disrespect at all; Mimic wasn’t in the least disrespectful, but yes – he completely missed that Kai was, apparently, shy. He did, however, notice it when Meira spoke, crinkling her nose slightly: “He’s adorable – oh, Riaren has one of those, a blue…” The last sentence was accompanied by an absentminded nod at the firelizard toy that Kaegan pulled out; said blue firelizard was actually one of Riaren’s favorite toys, but she’d left it back in her weyr for time being.
Adorable, Mimic echoed, crooning pleasantly at Kaegan at her permission and that of her Salamandyr before he crouched down and sprang, both wings flaring open so he wouldn’t actually smack down onto Kaegan’s shoulder; his tail curled around her shoulder to balance himself for a moment before he bounced, crooning at Dash again. Am Mimic. So adorable babyYours, pretty Yours. Of course, His was prettier (Mimic was of the opinion that His was the most perfect person ever, though, so he certainly was biased) but he had no problem complimenting Dash’s person. Everyone could be pretty. And babies were all so adorable, weren’t they? Leaning forward, Mimic cooed pleasantly towards Kai; one wing was splayed out awkwardly to keep his balance, but the small discomfort went ignored. Hi baby, so adorable~
Riaren cooed quietly as Meira shifted him slightly upwards, the baby’s head falling against his mother’s shoulder so he could watch Mimic and Dash intently. He adored Mimic, but he wasn’t averse to sharing; he knew the brown Salamandyr would always come back to him no matter what. The schematics of Impression, that Mimic would always love Meira more than he did Riaren, certainly had no place in a six-month baby’s mind; he only knew that Mimic doted on him and that was nice.
His gaze remained on Mimic even as Meira turned slightly to look for a list of prices or something, using her free hand to push aside several toys to see if a list had been pinned beneath them. After a moment, though, she had to admit defeat and shook her head in response to Kaegan’s question, glancing over at the older goldrider. “No…did you know what you were getting? It’s probably – um, more convenient if we ask at the same time…” Her head tilted slightly in Kai’s direction before she followed his gaze down to the stuffed dragons and a smile flickered across her face. Firelizards and dragons – Riaren liked them a lot, too. Cute, that Kai would prefer a stuffed dragon over anything else there.
“Oh,” she added, even though it would likely seem rather random – it seemed impolite to leave the other goldrider there afterwards, after all – “I was going to buy Riaren and Mimic something to eat afterwards; did you – did you want to come…?” A glance down at Riaren even as she picked up the dolphin doll again, turning it over in her free hand, waiting for the shopkeeper’s attention to turn to them. Meira didn’t really mind being alone; Mimic and Riaren (as well as Jingth’s frequent input, though the gold remained silent for time being) were enough company for her – but she’d like to see if Riaren and Kai could get along. Maybe they were too young, but it didn’t hurt to try, surely?

Brown eyes followed the Brown forms of the Salamandyrs as they moved closer to him, blinking in curiosity at their wings. He liked them. He knew Dash because he was his, but the other one was new. New was good. Kai giggled as Mimic spoke to him, although of course, he didn't know what was being said to him. Reaching out to the little Mandyr, the baby wiggled his fingers as he tried to touch Mimic.
"Remember Kai, gentle. Gentle." Glancing at Mimic as he landed on her shoulder, Kaegan smiled as she observed the two Browns quietly. The smaller one was definitely young, and it reminded her of the day she impressed Dash. Those memories were nice, but they also dredged up darker thoughts that she pushed away before they could surface completely and occupied her thoughts with the search for the prices. Lifting a stuffed wherry she took her eyes off it for only a moment, but it was in that moment that Kai grabbed it and stuffed it's beak in his mouth. Pulling it away from her son's lips, Kaegan sighed. Now she had no choice but to by the wherry doll. Not that she minded terribly, it was obvious that Kai liked it and it was for him that she had come to the gather. The little boy did the same thing to the feline doll that she held a loft. It wasn't his fault that his mother kept putting those soft toys near him! Switching his stuffed flitter for the Feline Doll, the Weyrwoman nodded her head slightly and tucked it under her arm (where it joined the Wherry Doll) when Meira announced she could not find anything either. "I'm not sure what I'm going to get. But if Kai keeps shoving the stuffed toys into his mouth, I fear I will have to by the entire stall." She gave a mock sigh of exasperation.
Leaping up into Kaegan's hair, Dash climbed the thick curls until he reached his perch on top of her head. From there he proceeded to look for Azaran, something had reminded him that the silly Flitter was around even though he had not been seen. It took a few minutes for the Mandyr to locate the Bronze, the Firelizard having stowed himself away in one of the stall's highest corners. Trilling to him Dash leaped off of Kaegan's head to glide through the air, circled about, and re-land on her shoulder once more. Mimic! Like name. Hatchlings both a-door-rayble. Yours pretty too. He fluttered his wings before crawling forward to watch the other Brown interact with his Hatchling. He was still a protective Mandyr, first and for most. But it didn't hurt to show a little pride in his Hatchling. He was the bestest.
"Something to eat?" She glanced at her son, who was currently occupied with the Salamandyrs, before returning her attention back onto the other two. "Well sure. I mean, if you don't mind us tagging along." The Weyrwoman didn't want to be a burden on the other mother, but truth be told, it would be nice to get to know a little more about the Goldweyrling. She never had much of a chance to get to know Savitri, which was a shame. Even now she knew only a few things about her Junior Weyrwoman. Although maybe it was time to fix that... But Meira herself was quickly approaching graduation, and maybe today Kaegan could gleam a feel of what she was like. Plus, she had a few questions about a certain Brownrider who seemed to be avidly avoiding her. "I could do with a bite." She paused before looking back at the toys. "Now lets see..."
After a few moments of inspecting the wares of the stall, the Senior Weyrwoman had a pretty good idea of what she wanted to buy. She had a feeling that she would have to come back for them later, not having the limbs nor the space to carry all that she wanted to get for Kai. Again, she didn't mind. She would either catch a ride to Blossom later on without Kai, or have someone else retrieve them for her. Shifting her son to a better position, Kaegan straightened out his shirt so that it no longer rode up. "Do you know what you're going to get? Those Dolphin dolls are very cute."

Not worry, pretty Dash’s love. The reassurance was in the form of a low croon as well as the words, Mimic arching against Kai’s fingers, rubbing his entire body against the baby’s palm in a patting motion. Riaren already knew how to pet – side effect of having Mimic as well as Ellie and Stumpy at his disposal – but Mimic liked attention regardless of whether or not it was clumsy and he was a patient creature. When the baby’s attention turned back to the toys displayed, vibrantly, upon the stall before them, however, Mimic crooned before he licked Kai once more, spinning in a circle to look back at Dash. There was no denying that the brown Salamandyr was happy. Meeting new people, going new places – it was so exciting and he was always happy when he was with His. Even better if the hatchling was there. His wings fluttered in what would have been an undeniably pretty motion had he been less obviously brown before he spun again and then leapt, fearless, back to His, crooning once at Dash – no need to invade upon his person any longer than was necessary, after all.
Still, he turned back to respond to the other Salamandyr as soon as he’d regained equilibrium, flaring out both wings and then diving onto Riaren to curl around the baby’s wrist. Thaaank you! Those two words were all that was said before his attention was focused on Riaren again; Mimic actively took to snuggling against the baby. Riaren lifted his free arm to flail it pleasantly in Kai’s direction before he curled around Mimic, possessive; his brown squirmy thing.
Meira only vaguely noticed Mimic’s returning to her; the weyrlingrider tilted her head slightly to look at Kaegan before a brief smile crossed her face; it was cute, the way Kai liked to put things in his mouth. Riaren liked to suck on things too – he’d tried to suck on Mimic’s tail for quite a time, and his stuffed firelizard occupied his mouth for quite a long time. “That wouldn’t be so bad,” she commented softly, crinkling her nose playfully; she shifted Riaren slightly, lips brushing across the baby’s forehead affectionately. “I’m sure Kai wouldn’t mind being buried in toys…” A brief smile intended for Kai himself and not quite Kaegan. She hadn’t always liked babies – she distinctly remembered that once, she hadn’t because they were usually noisy. Riaren wasn’t. She’d have loved him anyway but he wasn’t and she was very grateful for that; she didn’t get enough sleep worrying about him without his actually fussing in the middle of the night, too. Kai seemed to be relatively quiet, too. Shy, even, which Riaren wasn’t.
“I – why would I mind? Company would be nice…” Because typically, when one went to a Gather, one did have company. The Masquerade at the Weyr, she’d attended with R’wign and M’ta both, but this one she…didn’t. Meira wasn’t entirely sure it would be comfortable with the Senior Weyrwoman, but it was better than nobody and – she’d probably end up working with Kaegan at some point. The question she’d asked wasn’t one that required answering, either; it was purely rhetorical and showed in the way her attention returned to the dolphin toy. She wanted to buy it very much, but better to make sure it wasn’t missing any fins or anything. Not that she was exactly an expert on dolphin anatomy…it was turned over in her free hand (rather awkwardly, but she managed) before she offered it to Riaren to free up that hand again.
Kaegan’s question made Meira glance over at the other goldrider and she nodded. “It is…so yeah. Just this for now…” Riaren grabbed at it, holding it up and tilting his head to examine it as Mimic darted down his arm to peer at the dolphin doll before he frilled in approval and then crooned. Pretty pretty~ Prettymaker! The last word was a call for the man running the stall, who had just turned in their direction. Meira automatically took a step back, tilting her head to indicate Kaegan ought to go first – out of politeness, mostly, though also because, while Riaren happily wrapped both arms around the dolphin, smiling widely at the man, her free hand had slipped into the pouch of marks, trying to catch one of the mark pieces stored there; how much the dolphin dolls even were, she didn’t know, but she didn’t want to waste the man’s time fumbling later…

"I bet he would. Wouldn't you little one?" Kaegan bounced him slightly as she asked him the question, smiling at him as turned to face her. Her voice had caught his attention, but it didn't hold it for long, his hands quickly busying themselves with locks of her curly hair. As long as he didn't pull hard, the Weyrwoman was alright with Kai holding onto them. Recently, he had gotten better about remembering to be gentle. Turning so that she could put her shoulder back onto the nearest table, Kaegan rummaged through it for a scrap of hide and a charcoal. "Oh I don't know, I suppose it was a habitual response." Placing the items she had been looking for and the stuffed animals onto the table next to her bag, the Goldrider let the strap fall off of her shoulder and off the end of her hand. "I too would be glad for company. Kai is a lovely gather partner, but I like to talk to someone who doesn't gurgle and squeak. Despite it being ridiculously cute." Transferring Kai from her right side to her left, Kaegan settled him before bending over and writing down what she wanted.
Putting the charcoal back into her bag, the Weyrwoman replaced the strap on her shoulder and scooped up the two animals. Over the last five months she had gotten used to doing things with only one hand. Looking up as Meira indicated that she was going to buy the stuffed Dolphin, Kaegan nodded happily. "Its a lovely choice. Have you gotten to see the Dolphins here in action? They're quite beautiful in the water." When she had to leave the Weyr with Millieth because of another Queen's flight, the Goldrider usually chose Blossom as her destination. Mixing it up with Southern and Selenitas from time to time. The last time she had come, she had had the pleasure of watching the Dolphins and their partners while they were training. She handed her list to the attendant as Meira gestured for her to go first. "I would like those items. If it is possible, I would like to pick them up later, I simply don't have enough arms for it." She continued when the man nodded. "But I will take these two with me. May I have a total price?" Smiling after the man as he went to double check the prices, Kaegan tucked Kai's flitter doll into her bag, along with the snarling feline. But she offered her son the Wherry doll to hold, which he immediately wrapped his arms around in a hug and stuck part of the head into his mouth.
"That will be twelve and a half marks, Weyrwoman."
It was a reasonable price for how much she asked for. Nodding, Kaegan withdrew a leather pouch from her bag and handed it to the man. "There is fifteen marks in there, would you take what I owe and then return it to me? My hands are a bit tied." The man disappeared again before returning a few moments later and returned her pouch to her. He informed her that her items would be held until she came to pick them up. "Thank you very much." Looking to Meira, Kaegan took a step back so that she stood near the Goldweyrling. It was her turn.
She propped herself against the table, sitting on the very edge so that it would take some of her weight. As with using one of her hands to function, Kaegan had also gotten used to carrying Kai around for long periods of time. But it was still tiring. Propping her son's feet against her left thigh she waited quietly for Meira to finish up with buying Riaren his dolphin. Shifting as she felt a weight drop down onto her shoulder and then wrap around her neck, Kaegan used her empty hand to itch the Flitter under his chin. AZFLITTER. MOVE FAT TAIL. YOU SQUISH! She sighed. Her two pets had a knack for being able to ruin her peace.

A flicker of a smile at Kaegan’s words; Meira tilted her head and crinkled her nose, playful, at Kai. He was cute and it was thanks to him primarily that she was at all comfortable around Kaegan. She didn’t feel like they had to talk about other than Kai and Riaren. Their dragons, perhaps, but that seemed to overdone, more of a failsafe plan than any actual attempt at real conversation. Plus, Jingth’s ego was quite large enough without her inflating it further. She stepped back to allow Kaegan better access to the counter, looking down at Riaren to distract herself. The baby smiled widely at her, encouraging as he clutched at the dolphin doll, the long slender muzzle finding his mouth so he could suck on it. The action made Meira smile, too, leaning down to kiss Riaren on the forehead affectionately even as Mimic uttered a loud croon at his Bonded’s proximity, taking the opportunity to lick her cheek with a tongue so quick and gentle in its caress that she barely noticed it at all.
The mention of the dolphins made her tilt her head before she responded softly, “I haven’t…Jingth’s over at the lake though; I’ll have to join her later…” She’d been at Blossom Hold before but the duration of her stay had been rather short and decidedly…unpleasant, to say the least. The weyrlingrider fell silent as the shopkeeper’s attention turned to the Senior Weyrwoman and she shifted Riaren slightly in her grasp as Mimic leapt to her shoulder, watching the proceedings around him with vivid attention and crooning as he narrated it for Riaren, who was still sucking pleasantly on the bluish-gray snout of the dolphin. He liked blue very much, after all. Big big fatty go by, pretties alla ‘round. Want pretty, babylove? Prettygoldy egg want maybe yes? Looooove babylove, pretty will. Look look bright shinies so pretty…
Just because it made not the slightest bit of sense didn’t mean a thing to Mimic; he was having a fascinating time people-watching and flitter-watching. The Salamandyr actively bounced in his excitement, frill fanning out delightedly. Dash had been forgotten for the moment – Mimic was completely diverted by the sheer number of shinies around him. And then –
He nearly fell off Meira’s shoulder as the weyrlingrider jolted forward a step, reaching up to touch the dolphin doll that Riaren clung to as she met the shopkeeper’s gaze with a shy smile. “Just this, please?” she inquired softly, her fingers touching the smooth wooden marks expectantly. The goldrider was hoping it wasn’t too terribly expensive – not that she minded spending marks on Riaren (she had nobody else to spend it on, after all) but because she wanted to have marks to buy him other things. The only things he intended to buy for herself were the paper boats, if one needed to pay to buy them. It seemed horrible to know that she could buy them for Meisk and Zesa and had chosen…not to. Even in favor of spoiling her son; she had loved the wher and firelizard, even if they seemed to have…faded.
“One mark, that’ll be.”
Meira shifted awkwardly sideways to pull out four marks. Three ¼ marks, and one that had a very clear 1 marked on it. The former were dropped back into her pouch, the latter deposited neatly onto the table and slid across to the man, who picked it up and nodded. Meira smiled again, grateful for the simplicity of the exchange (she was horrible at haggling, probably because of the fact that she was so shy at the best of times) before she wrapped both arms around Riaren again, turning to rejoin Kaegan. An awkward half-smile as Meira side-stepped a Holdbrat rushing for the toy stall, clutching sticky candies in her hands, and then tilted her head in the direction of the stalls from which enticing smells were drifting. Meats, candies, and beverages each had their own stall, didn’t they…?
“Are you ready…?” A blink, and then Meira nodded at firelizard and Salamandyr on the Weyrwoman’s shoulders. “Are they – um, okay…?” The sight of the firelizard made Mimic croon, the Salamandyr leaning forward to stare curiously at Azaran. Pretty pretty wingy flutter, he commented. Nice meetcha. His words were emphasized by Riaren waving his newly acquired dolphin toy in the air before its snout resumed its position of honor in his mouth, tacking on a happy “baboop~”.

"Hmm?" Kaegan stirred herself from her thoughts. "Oh. Yes, they are fine. Dash just wants Azaran to move his tail because its on him." Using her free hand, the Weyrwoman lifted the Firelizard's tail so her Salamandyr could wiggle out from underneath it. Once her two pets were settled, she slid off of the table's edge. "Yes, I'm ready." Catching the wherry doll as Kai dropped it in favor of petting Azaran's head, Kaegan offered Meira a smile before exiting the tent. Blossom Hold always seemed to have a perfect climate, even in the fall is was comfortable to walk around in without a jacket. "Fortunately, all of the food like stalls are in the same area. I mean, at least I think they are." She paused. "Its a shame that there isn't a fruit stand. A friend of mine sent me a very long message about it. Though, she made it sound like the end of the world, silly girl." Kaegan shook her head slightly. "Do you have any particular craving for a certain stall?" It didn't matter much to the Weyrwoman where they stopped first, as long as they went to the sweets stand. She wanted a bubbly pie. It was her go to snack at Gathers, it was almost a tradition for her. They were addicting, which was why she reduced her intake to only at gathers. Making them an every-so-often-treat, rather than a companion desert to her evening meals.
Maybe the sweets stall would have something for Kai to have, they made some of their sweets right there. There were fruit pies, which meant they probably had some fruit laying round. If she asked nicely maybe they would mash up some fruit so he could have a little. Kai was just hovering around six months, and Kaegan had only recently been experimenting with mashed fruits and vegetables to supplement his feedings. So far, he had only taken a liking to mashed bananas and redfruit. No luck with much of anything else. Though, much like her bubbly pies, she was only giving him fruit every once in a while (and only very recently). She would start giving him more in a few weeks. When he was well into his sixth month. Speaking of Kai, he was now trying to get her attention by wiggling back and forth. Offering him his wherry, Kaegan shifted him higher up her side. She could almost swear he was gaining a pound a day, he felt so heavy.
"How are your Weyrling lessons going? I'm sorry for the sudden change in Weyrlingmasters. But it seems as if that position is cursed, nobody seems to stay for too long."

“I see…” A nervous smile flickered as Meira nodded, gaze dropping to Salamandyr and firelizard; a faint smile crossed her face. Arguing. Most people’s pets seemed to constantly argue, and she couldn’t help wondering if Mimic and Zesa would have. She doubted it, but perhaps that was just optimism. And kind of a depressing thought; she dismissed it to step back and fall in step with Kaegan as the Weyrwoman stood, brushing her lips over Riaren’s forehead softly in the same motion. The baby was engrossed with sucking on the snout of the new dolphin toy and didn’t pause, but the deft flick of green eyes up to his mother’s face was clearly a gaze of adoration. Meira smiled absently down at Riaren, head tilted slightly to better hear Kaegan over the constant level of noise in the Gather area; she was looking forward to going back to the Weyr just because of the lack of noise there. Generally. But she could hear. “Really wanted that fruit,” she observed, crinkling her nose in some amusement.
“Ah…I don’t but if it’s okay I’d prefer to stop by the stall with all the drinks and see if there’s anything I could buy for Riaren,” Meira added, rocking momentarily onto her tiptoes in an attempt to see over the mass of bodies at the stalls ahead. “He’s mostly on a liquid diet right now; I don’t want to switch to any sweets or anything spontaneously right now.” If they didn’t have a fruit stall she didn’t expect for there to be any fruit juice, but sweetened tea or even just milk would make Riaren happy. Her arms tightened around the baby, shifting him upwards; around the snout of the dolphin the boy made a low happy noise, letting his toy rest against his chest and stomach securely. “I doubt he’s hungry right now, though, so I mean, if you wanted to go to another I don’t mind or anything…and Riaren doesn’t either. Do you, love?” The last were murmured to Riaren, who clapped his hands together softly at the attention.
Meira made the mistake of looking at Kaegan at the goldrider’s next question – and promptly was forced to sidestep, muttering a hasty apology to the man she’d nearly collided with before she caught up with Kaegan again, cheeks flushed slightly. Silly nowing, Mimic crooned into her ear. Not see LoveMine so silly. Which was not entirely comforting, but Meira brushed gratefully against Mimic’s mind nonetheless; she recognized an attempt when she heard it. Anyway, such an attempt at ego-boosting would be more than Jingth would have offered – likely the gold’s only comment would have been ‘he’s not worth it, don’t bother with him’ or something along the lines thereof. Meira smiled hastily at Kaegan before she answered.
“Lessons are fine. I mean, not exactly terribly thrilling or anything but…” A shrug. “They’re okay. And…Sel’n taught one of Millieth’s clutches too, didn’t he, from before…?” R’wign and M’ta’s, she thought, but she could be mistaken; they’d graduated a long time ago (or so it seemed). She didn’t expect Kaegan to remember, really, the names of those who had Impressed Millieth’s babies from so long ago. The most recent clutch, yes, but not one that had been Turns ago. “So it’s not entirely cursed…” she finished, her voice more playful than serious; she hadn’t the faintest idea where I’fael had gone or why F’ur had resigned, after all, and she wasn’t sure whether or not she wanted to know.

Flicking a bit of hair over her shoulder, Kaegan rolled her eyes playfully. "She's a vegetarian. Though she really should be called a fruititarian, or something along those lines. I always see her with an apple or a redfruit." Mindlessly flexing her left hand she nodded slightly as Meira told her about the drink stall. "No, no thats fine. The Drink stall sounds lovely right now. I'm sure we could all do with a little drink." She bounced Kai as she said this, touching her nose to his and making him giggle. Which was a feat, because he was still sucking on the wing of his Wherry doll. Why was he so cute? She knew she was bias, and she didn't much mind it. Kaegan had a feeling Kai might grow up being spoiled, and it was something she would have to monitor. And she was already off to a bad start, having just bought so many toys for him. She sighed slightly. It was going to be an uphill battle for her.
"Well yes, Sel'n has taught before. I think it was... oh, wasn't it R'wign's class?" She thought about it for a moment and then nodded. "That was two clutches ago. Huh. It makes me feel like I've been here for a very long time." Come to think of it, the turns had come and gone, and it felt like they had flown by. At least at the moment it did, there were some days that all the Turns seemed to have caught up with her and made her glad she had escaped when she did. "Well anyways, I'm glad that he decided to take the challenge again. And I hear Darya is alright, if maybe a little stern. But of course, that is through the grapevine." She waved her hand slightly with a smile. "Has your class gotten around to Betweening yet? Because lessons will pick up from there." A pause. "Which reminds me. Lucky as you are, you get to have a few supplemental lessons, mainly teaching you how to use a flamethrower on the back of your Jingth, and a lesson about Queenflights. Not necessarily now of course, but soon." She paused to adjust Kai again before continuing. "The question is though, would you rather have myself or Savitri teach you. Since generally one of the older Queenriders does it. Shmee taught me and Paryal, rest their souls. And I think she also taught Savitri as well. Not entirely sure, since we weren't Weyrlings at the same time."
"Oh look. There is the food stalls." Hungry! We get food? I can have bitsy meats? "Yes Dash, I'll get something for you both as well." Kaegan rubbed the Salamandyr's head with the tip of her finger. It was a wonder that something so small could be so intelligent, she was always afraid her little Brown would get lost.

A fruitarian? Her nose crinkled slightly and Meira laughed softly, bowing her head to look at Riaren again. He wasn’t exactly heavy yet but she wouldn’t mind setting him down, even if it was just in her lap. Vegetarian, though, she wasn’t; she preferred vegetables over meat but she was by no means picky – the only thing she didn’t like was the taste of basil. Easier, considering the kitchens rarely considered picky eaters – they made generic meals or you cooked for yourself, as far as she could tell; she’d never actually asked because she’d never needed to. A simple nod was her response, though, and a flash of a smile. Meira wasn’t actually hungry at the moment, but a drink would be nice. Iced tea, if they had it, maybe? She had a feeling Riaren would approve of that more than of hot tea. As far as she could tell, the baby did prefer cooler drinks, though perhaps it was simply a coincidence – one did not often heat fruit juice, after all.
The youngest goldrider blinked, glancing at Kaegan before she nodded; she thought it had been. Not that the gesture seemed necessary, for the Senior Weyrwoman shortly answered her own question and went on. She supposed time had gone quickly but she wished some of it hadn’t. The saying ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ didn’t really seem accurate; it just flew all the time. A quick glance was flicked towards the Senior Weyrwoman again and she shrugged noncommittally at the mention of Darya; she hadn’t heard much about the other Weyrlingmaster at all and gossip rarely reached her. Always too busy to stop and listen to what was being chatted around the Weyr, though most of that business was her own choice; nobody said she had to be at the Infirmary outside of her shift. The mention of between drew a faint chuckle from her, though, and she shook her head. “Some of the Weyrlings asked about it at the last lesson,” she admitted, the shoulder not supporting Riaren’s weight lifting in a lopsided shrug. “We’re not ready yet, apparently…”
And she was scared of going between. It wasn’t that she hadn’t before – she had, with Meisk, but the difference in the ‘image’ sent was enough to make her incredibly nervous. What if she sent the wrong image because she wasn’t used to a dragon’s perspective, even after ten months…? It wasn’t something she could tell Kaegan, though.
“Oh…” She blinked awkwardly, uncertain for a moment, as the Senior Weyrwoman went on. Supplemental lessons. Great. Learning to operate a flamethrower came as something of a surprise given that the queen’s wing had been disbanded, but she expected it was necessary; just in case. And – she didn’t even want to think about Jingth Rising. Meira had been ignoring the idea for quite some time now and she wished she could keep blocking it out. It was a scary thought, not to mention that Jingth had displayed no preference to bronzes yet. Actually, she seemed to favor browns – if having four brown ‘slaves’ could count as ‘favoring’ them. But the more immediate problem came down to choosing a teacher between Kaegan and Savitri – and she didn’t want to offend either of them. Perhaps it was a silly thing to think about but she was worried nonetheless and she bit her lip, silently, for a moment, as she stopped in the short line in front of the beverage stall.
“I don’t really…have a preference or anything,” she answered finally, after a moment of hesitation; they were both busy, likely, with both children and work around the Weyr. On one hand, Meira knew Savitri better, mostly because of the fact that they both worked in the Infirmary, but on the other, she’d be expected to work with Kaegan too, wouldn’t she…? “Whenever one of you has the time…” And she wasn’t in the Infirmary or Weyrling Lessons. And thinking of which – “I’m still going to be at the regular Lessons…?” she inquired softly, not sure whether it would be a good or bad thing if she wouldn’t be. “I mean – I know Jingth can’t flame or anything, but should I still be there or what…?” Her free hand rose nervously at the thought to brush along Mimic’s back for reassurance, earning a reassuring coo from the Salamandyr.
Because, yes, it would be embarrassing to turn up and then be told she wasn’t supposed to be there. But at that moment, they’d moved to the front of the line and the vendor leaned forward to address Kaegan with a pleasant, “And what can I get for you?” To be expected, given that Kaegan was considerably more well-known than the weyrlingrider was.

"Oh, a milk and a Klah please." She turned back to Meira as the stall owner turned to get her drinks. "Alrighty. I'll talk to Savitri around the time you all start Betweening. Who's ever not busy will come down to teach you, we'll give your Weyrlingmaster a notice a few days ahead of time so he can inform you." The man came back then and she handed him a Mark, which he quickly returned her change. Shifting to the side with her small little tray - the man had been nice enough to give her one so she could carry the drinks with one hand - Kaegan yawned slightly as the vendor addressed Meira, 'And for you, miss?'
She waited until the Goldweyrling finished relaying her order before she continued on with their conversation. "As for normal lessons, I think you should still go. You still need to know about firestone, how its mined, where we get it the different types of Firestone. Its something I deal with when ordering Firestone reserves when a ThreadFall finishes. Plus, if you watch and study how a Dragon flames in the air or in general, it could help save your live if you ever got attacked." She still hated the fact that aerial combat had weaseled its way into Selenitas Airspace. Stupid war. "Hopefully you'll never have to face that. What with Heatwave being disbanded. Millieth is still sore about that, not exactly happy with the other Weyrleaders. Don't mind as much myself, still, it did feel good when we were doing our part." She shrugged. "Of course we'll take into account that you have infirmary duty. The lessons will only be one or two, depending on how much we can squeeze in one day."
Huffing, Azaran glared at the Salamandyr as he perched on his tail. He tried to shake the Brown off, but to no avail. He chirped unhappily before drawing his tail off of his Human's shoulder and whipped it forward, sending Dash flying onto the counter of the stall. The annoying Brown deserved it. BAD AZZYFLIER. BAD. He huffed again before curling back around Kaegan's neck. Stupid Brown. Dash on the other hand recovered quickly and crawled back up to his perch on Kaegan's shoulder, this time away from the Firelizard's tail.
She ignored her pets, which had become a normal practice for her. As long as no one got hurt, she usually let them settle their disputes themselves. Depending of course on her mood, and on circumstance. "Anyways. Talking shop is boring. Lets see... oh, speaking of infirmary duty, how is R'wign doing, do you know? He seems to be avoiding me, or has been at least."

Meira nodded, shifting Riaren slightly in her grasp and brushing her lips against the baby’s head softly; she was grateful he wasn’t fussing. Not that he ever did, but she was still exceptionally grateful right now, in the middle of the Gather, with the Senior Weyrwoman as company. The vendor’s attention turned back to them surprisingly quickly and he handed Kaegan her drinks, Meira stepping forward to order her own at his question. “Ah – one milk, please. If it’s not too much of a bother, could it be warmed a little too, please? And one tea, apple if you have that…?” The vendor’s response to her question was an affirmative and he turned back to make the drinks in question, allowing Meira to turn back to Kaegan. The Weyrwoman’s words made her nod, biting her lip slightly. Goldriders did tend to be targets. Lovely.
“That sounds good,” she responded softly, with a half-smile. “Um – I did ask Sel’n this, but just to make sure – there’s nothing specific that takes over the queen’s wing, is there? There’s just…I think he said the domestic affairs?” Meira didn’t want to outright admit it, mostly because it would sound downright naïve, but she didn’t know what she’d be expected to do. Not at all, not as a Junior Weyrwoman – and not really even the formal one at that. Weyrleader organized wings, Weyrwomen…were in charge of, what, tithes and paperwork? Not that she’d expected it to be incredibly exciting or anything, but there was only so much one could do with tithes and paperwork, surely.
As the man turned to set the drinks in question on a tray and push it across to her, stating, “That’ll be half a mark, ma’am,” Mimic squeaked in alarm, looking from Azaran to Dash before he leaned forward to bespeak Dash anxiously. Daaash…need fixer? Poor poor, fixer? At Meira’s reassurance that the Salamandyr was unhurt, as was displayed by his immediately bouncing back up again, he settled, though he still watched Dash and Azaran anxiously as Meira pulled out a half mark and handed it to the man, murmuring a quiet “thank you” before she braced the tray in one hand, watching the drinks intently to make sure they didn’t spill over, and started for the tables. Mimic spun on her shoulder to trill towards Kaegan. Come sit please.
Meira didn’t answer Kaegan’s question immediately, sliding the tray on an unoccupied table and indicating the other chair for Kaegan to take before she sat, gratefully settling Riaren into her lap. “R’wign is – good, I guess? I see him mostly in the Infirmary or when Riaren’s changing hands.” And she was extremely grateful for both situations. Infirmary namely because he was helping her work towards Journeyman knots, and Riaren because she was pretty sure she couldn’t function otherwise. At all. “He’s – avoiding you?” The question was surprised, to say the least. “Um…I could talk to him about it, if you want?” Part of her was curious as to why R’wign would be avoiding the Senior Weyrwoman, but she didn’t want to outright ask, either; that would be incredibly intrusive and she personally wouldn’t have liked it.
Instead, she picked up the little cup of milk and tested the temperature carefully with the tip of her finger. The dolphin doll was set neatly on one side of the chair so Riaren could wrap his hands as far as they would go around the cup, and Meira tilted the cup carefully to let him drink, head bowed to watch carefully. No need to spill the milk. And – “Oh. I’m sorry – I completely forgot, did you want to go to the other food stalls right now?” Anxiously, she glanced up, crinkling her nose in apology as Mimic darted down her wrist to taste the milk in the cup, leaning forward precariously over the lip of the mug. Riaren giggled quietly, tiny tongue emerging to lick the milk mustache off, hands still clinging to the cup that had been raised slightly in his mother’s pause.
