Dodging humans was one thing - Carenath was good at that, could shine, and had done so. He'd even managed to make up some distance between himself and Ghost, who had wider dodges to make given her greater wingspan. Straightaways were something else, though. As soon as they ran out of people to dodge, Carenath started losing ground in the pack, dropping behind first one bronze, then another, then the browns as larger wings and stronger bodies did their work. Carenath was Carenath, though, and ego went right along with everything else, so even if he was a touch disappointed, his vocalizations (many, and varied) stayed positive. He still had a chance. In theory.
Following the golden queen up the staircase (more accurately, entering the bottom of the stairwell as Ghost left the top), Carenath pumped his wings even harder, twisting himself into a gut-churning corkscrew to increase his speed. It rested his wings, and looked sufficiently dangerous at the same time. All to the good.
The door was somewhat more of a challenge - the human had held it for Ghost and the first few chasers, but would it stay open for the rest of them? Carenath frantically tried to increase his speed, knowing that if the human let the door go, it would be too late. He would be crushed, with no way to get out of the way (save Between, which of course was always dangerous mid-flight). Closing his purple eyes, the legless bronze flew on, expecting the crunch at any moment... but it never came. Glancing back, he noticed one of the other Bronzes holding it open for the pack. Chirping his thanks, the smallest Bronze turned back to Ghost, and the sky. He might be thankful to Freyr, but he certainly wasn't going to give up any lead he had at the moment.

Mother watched the door open almost as if for Ghost. He also watched her pass through the door and put on a burst of speed so he could put her into his sights again. He couldn't impress if he wasn't within view, after all. He passed through the open maw that was the door first and watched as the gold passed over the dragon. He mimicked her path fairly closesly there, though he angled a little higher a little quicker than the gold, unaware of Freyr holding the door for others.
The forest...of course. This would be where Mother would have difficulty. The bronze knew this and hoped that his current lead would help mitigate any lost ground when the gold started the next challenge. While he had excellent stamina, the bronze didn't practice intricate flight very often and so was quite lacking in it. Should the gold choose to dance amongst the leaves and branches he would showing that lacking talent. Oh well. Everyone had their own strengths, right?

A loud trill left Amour’s throat as he whipped around a particularly wide human that had gotten in his way. Diving between another’s legs he spring boarded off the next person’s shoulder. The rest of the chasers were forgotten in his obsession to keep up, keep up. He wanted her so bad. Mostly for the chance at babies. But wasn’t that why they were all here? Yes. Well maybe not Baron. But enough of that.
A flurry of wing beats had the brown drawing up close to the other chasers again. Twinges in his wings were ignored for the moment. No way he was giving up and they were only a little tight. Nothing painful at the moment. It seemed that thankfully Ghost was getting tired of her obstacle course however. Amour was glad as he shot up the stairs in pursuit of her. You could only do so many twists and loops.
Pushing himself into a near sprint as he watched the gold shoot though the just opened door, he trilled to the human. Oh no! It was going to close. The little brown was about to apply the breaks and look for an alternate route when Freyr kept the door open for the rest of them. Well what do you know? Giving the other male a grateful and heartfelt chirp of thanks, Amour renewed his hot pursuit of Ghost. Following her up and out into the jungle he sang a short song and pumped his wings harder and harder to meet her above and just below the canopy. When she turned her head to view them all he hummed softly to her. Still here! He was still here.

Baron kept high above the humans in the corridors seeing no real reason to twist and turn and loop around them to waste precious energy. Instead he kept up steadfast wing beats. Steady and powerful as was as he pursued the golden Ghost that wound through the obstacles she presented with grace. Yes a worthy prize. As the neared the stairwell the large brown dipped and finally did loop once around some human’s head before shooting up the staircase. His wings were hardly tired as he passed Amour and a few of the others, shooting though the doorway just as one of the bronzes turned to hold it open for the others. Silly creature. It had probably just blown it’s chance at her.
Diving low and just barely skimming the curious dragon’s head knob Baron angled himself upwards and powered after the golden firelizard. This was the point where he was obviously going to have to work and he put all his strength into approaching her as quickly as possible. Only when she turned to look at him did he perform a half roll to show off what he had to offer.
It occurred to the brown that he might be able to attempt to snatch her at this point. But he held off for a moment to try and gauge what Ghost's reaction might be too it. If she dove back closer to their level however he was no doubt going to attempt a force twine.

Helios was just as quick at the draw as the others had been - the moment Ghost was off the table he was shooting after her. As a Brown he was a bit bulkier than say the Blue who was hot on his tail - but he was fairly streamlined for his color. Each time he beat his wings there was no wasted energy or extra movement - just what he needed to do in order to get him where he wanted to go. Helios was nothing if not efficient.
Eros was a tad slower, but being a Blue he made up for it and soon made it past the red-brown Helios ahead of him. Flicking his whip-like tail at the Brown's muzzle he set his eyes on those ahead of him - and then further ahead to the Gold. Oh how her hide shone! When it became apparent they would be going through the hallways, Eros gave a delightful croon. He was built for things like this, Bronzes and Browns were not as nimble as he was! Wanting to prove himself he made sure through the hallways to fly the closest he could to any and all the humans in his path - leaving some shrieking behind him. He wasn't working on sprinting ahead for now, he needed to save his energy. When Ghost headed for the stairs, Eros followed behind her and the others. The door was held open, oh how nice of Freyr, and then he was out in the fresh air.
NOW. Now is when Eros made his move, pulling his wings in close he suddenly flared them out and with a quick flurry of beats he was zipping past the competitors and crooning out to Ghost as he flew up towards the trees where she was. Calling out to her he flipped around and weaved between some branches - he would do well with whatever challenge she threw at him... as long as it didn't require too much endurance from him.
While Eros was ahead showing off, Helios was bringing up the rear. The Brown was capable of flying close and scaring humans like the others, and he did to some extent. Did he risk running into anyone? No not really. Did he make it look like he was? Yes, though he doubted the Gold noticed. Noticed or not, he continued in his pursuit. He was not built for extreme speed like the Blue or Green might be, but when he saw Ghost jet up the stairs towards the door he put the pedal to the metal so to speak - zipping through the door before the bewildered human had a chance to close it. He trilled to Freyr when he'd noticed he had offered help in keeping the door open for them all. Quite the gentleman.
But Helios was not here for Freyr - he was not there to cheer on the Bronze. He was here for her - Ghost. He watched as her golden form gleamed and shot like a shooting star towards the cover of the trees. Up amongst the branches she drifted and watched them all with a michevious glint in her swirling eyes. If a firelizard could smile, Helios surely was. Tail whipped behind him and he sped himself up towards the Gold. Soon he found himself among some of the Bronzes and he glanced at each of them in turn as he headed towards the prize he hoped would be his.

Haru ignored the other males as 'he' pushed to keep up with the golden queen. The others were useless, all of them. Only Ghost really matter and she would see that 'he' was the best of all of them. This time another male would not steal 'his' prize. Was 'he' not the best bronze in the Weyr? Did he not deserve both the shining queens who lived here? No sneaky, under clawed would stop 'him' this time! Despite 'his' gusto, Haru was starting to fall behind. Though 'he' would never admit to such weakness, the long flight was more taxing than 'he'd' expected. That was alright, however, the other males must be growing tired as well.
Ghost aimed for a conveniently open door and Haru darted for it. As before, 'he' ducked under the legs of the familiar human, trilling as 'he' passed. The dragon within was easy and one 'he' also knew well. He would be no challenge to pass. Gaining some height, Haru passed over the blue wings, keening in excitement. Of course 'he' would ask for no favors in removing the other males. Winning was not worth stooping to such dishonorable methods! Once free, Haru pulled on the last of 'his' strength to rise after the beautiful Ghost. It was time to play in the lovely jungle!

If T'ke had any suspicious about what he might find when he opened his door, they were nothing compared to what actually happened. Without even a moment to react, a golden form blew past his head. "What the..." he started to turn, but more things were coming at him. One stopped to hold the door, which T'ke had let go of in his surprise, while several more whizzed passed. Oh look, T'ke! Garaeth called cheerfully. Fire lizards have come for a visit! Giving how fast they were going and the purple of their eyes, T'ke seriously doubted that was the reason.
"Hey!" he grabbed for the door even as Freyr left to give chase and a familiar green shot between his legs. "Haru! What in shells are you doing?!" he glared after her. Oh, is she chasing golds again? Garaeth asked, holding placidly still as the storm of males passed him. Doooooomed Gara declared with a sad shake of his head. "Doomed is right, Gara," T'ke agreed, wrinkling his nose. Why did he have to attracted all the weird ones?

Revelling in the freedom of the skies, or at least the open space below the trees Ghost allowed herself to soar along for a while before she launched up into the branches, weaving her way among them, dodging in and out with a calm speed and grace until she grew bored and sent herself plummeting back under the greenery laden branches and back toward the unforgiving earth, only to snap her wings open again less than two feet from the ground and turn the dive into a swift flight in a mercifully straight line, at least until a tree trunk intervened and inspired the gold to return to the canopy and dart among the branches again.
Somehow the golden firelizard’s wild flight had brought her full circle and she slowed in confusion as the weyrledges, some with dragons and some without, loomed up ahead of her again. No! The firelizard queen hissed her displeasure at the weyr, she would not fly into those sterile corridors again! The queen wrenched herself around again, then snorted and fanned her wings madly, narrowly avoiding a collision with one of her chasers. Slamming on the brakes that way allowed all of them to catch up with her however, leaving Ghost feeling rather overwhelmed. Her solution was simple, rather than allow anyone to catch her in this confused state she’d catch someone for herself.
With that single thought burning like a beacon the gold wrapped her emaciated form around the nearest firelizard that seemed likely to have the wings to carry her. A flash of metallic red bronze denoted Freyr’s distinctive chest marking, so Ghost knew who she’d captured.
