Merridan nodded absently, only half listening to Darya's words. She was right, of course. They couldn't leave this creature alone now. Even if it hadn't made the tunnel, who knew where it could appear next? They still knew too little about the darker corners of this place to be sure. Baron's cry broke the silence and startled Mer back to reality. Her blood went cold. Faranth help them, how many of these monsters were there? The tunnels echoed too much to be sure, but it had to be at least half a dozen, maybe more.
Suddenly Elysia was shouting and pushing her back towards the entrance. Mer was surprised at her panic, but she didn't blame her. She was right too, they had to go now! Keeping the glow raised high, Mer backed up, letting Darya and Iskierka take rear guard. Auran zipped ahead of her, flying to catch up with the other fire lizards. He liked to think he was braver, but he was no fool either. Mer kept pace with the other two woman, holding the light so they could be sure of seeing if they were followed. The noises grew closer, until Mer could feel her heart pounding in her chest, but no shadows emerged into their circle of light.
None too soon, they reached the relative safety of the Records Room. Merridan dropped the glow in her effort to help shove the heavy bookcase back over the tunnel. She felt sick and ashamed. Meira was gone and they couldn't even give her a proper burial. Those things were probably busy eating the rest of her right now. Mer knew in her mind there was nothing they could have done without being killed themselves, but her heart burned with shame. She was such a coward.

Elysia gave a small cry as the bookcase finally moved into place with their collective efforts. It wasn’t a cry of relief though. It was one of panic. Because suddenly whatever was chasing them had apparently decided that they were quite tired of staying it that tunnel. There was food on the other end. With force the creature slammed itself against the furniture in an attempt to thwart the efforts of the women trying to contain it. Again and again the two creatures that had pursued ahead of the rest threw their bodies against the immovable barrier.
Muscles tightening under strain Elysia kept up the pressure with the other woman and eventually the creatures on the other side ceased. Still the greenrider and her fellows stayed leaning their collective power against the heavy case. Until the creatures on the other side grew quiet and then there was a sound that made the benden woman give a near sob of relief. The sounds of claws tapping against stone. But it was growing fainter not louder. They seemed to have given up. For now. Or….maybe they were just going back to get more reinforcements?
Trying to gather her shattered nerves Elysia’s legs gave out. She slid to the floor in front of the bookcase, gasping to regain her breath and shivering as the sweat that was covering her suddenly made her feel very, very chilled. Dark eyes examined the empty and destroyed room before them before she finally found her voice. “They might be back.” After they consumed Meira probably. The thought made her wince but the woman continued. “We need to strengthen this to hold them. Maybe move some more furniture.” Then she was all for locking this room and never opening it again. Maybe blocking the outside door too. Struggling back to her feet the greenrider didn’t look at any of the others, for fear she’d lose it right then and there if she did. Something to do. Needed something to do.
Approaching another bookcase Elysia grabbed onto it with trembling hands and murmured. “Come on. Let’s finish this.” So they could leave. Only then with a deep breath did she hazard a glance at her comrades in this. All of them seemed as in their own heads as she was. Each one wresting to grip with all that had just occurred. Dark eyes moved to the floor and only then did the woman start. Iskierka. She was bleeding. Back of her calf. “Iskierka. You’re bleeding.” The woman’s voice sounded rather small as she tugged on the bookcase and gazed with open fear at the other benden woman. It was probably the adrenaline that caused the other woman to miss it. Had they really come that close to…. Elysia shoved that thought forcefully out of her mind and got to work. Now that the bluerider knew she could take care of the wound and either help the rest of them or not. Regardless…they had to move quick again.
They worked mostly in silence. In the end a ridiculous amount of furniture ended up being wedged and piled before that tunnel, before the first knockings and questioning male voices sounded from the locked records room door. The remaining council members and a few others had obviously finally shown up. Elysia was glad and at the same time not. The others would want answers. And to be honest? The greenrider wasn’t sure they would like what they heard. Or that they even had many answers to give….

You can all make one wrap up post after this one. :3 For Burimyu rp purposes. It will be made known to the rest of the weyr that Meira of Gold Jingth was attacked and killed. The records room will remain sealed until the council decides what to do with it. There will be alternating guards stationed at the records room door for all 24 hours of the day. There will be further threads for this in the future so no worries. Thank you to all who participated for keeping up with it <3 Hope you had as much fun with it as I did ^^ <3
