Its an MMORPG - Massive Muliplayer Online Roleplaying Game

Its pretty much awesome. Its like $15 a month to play. You can have 10 characters on one realm/server. Up to 50 characters on one account (spread over different realms/servers, obviously) There are two factions: Horde (which is awesome) and Alliance (which is mostly younger children, sorry but its true - they want to be the 'good guys'). There's a bunch of lore behind each faction and such but I don't know it all.

You can join guilds in game. You can talk to people on the same server as you in game via general chat, party chat (if you're in a party with them), or whispers. Recently the RealID has been added, allowing anyone playing a Blizzard game (such as WoW or Starcraft II) to talk via whispers. However RealID does show your real name to those you add - so some people don't like it. You can talk across factions (Horde to Alliance, vice versa) over RealID - which you cannot do in game, even if they are on the same server as you.

In game there are dungeons which require a party of 5 to complete - most are pretty easy. They award currency (copper, silver, gold) and gear off of the bosses.

There are quests that you can do solo or with party members who are also on the same quest - they also give you currency and gear as rewards as well as experience. Experience is needed to level. Currently 85 is the level cap.

Its fun. You meet interesting people. At 85 most people raid, though not all. You stop questing at 85 but can do dailies for rep and gold. You gain rep with different factions throughout the game as you level/quest/run dungeons.

There are lots of different areas to explore in game. Lots of achievements you can do on your own or with friends. I <3 WoW.

I'm thinking maybe Thorium Brotherhood is our best bet? Unless you and I overlap, Ivy? RealID is good and all, but I've always had more fun actually playing together physically in game.

I play mostly on Stormrage these days, all Alliance on that server, and on Misha, all Horde on that server. :3

My 85s are Kermode (Kerr-MO-dee, Stormrage, Alliance Druid, Tank), Shirae (She-ray, Stormrage, Alliance Shaman, Heals), and Narasi (Nah-rah-see, Misha, Horde Paladin, Tank). :3
