Humans:
Name: Kilkin (nickname: Kilk)
Age: 22 Turns
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Rank: Candidate, Journeyman Healer (human and dragon healing)
Physical Appearance:
Kilkin sports scars like trophies. He often comes out of a squabble with a new cut on his arms, sometimes his face, though those are limited to one deep scar on his left cheek and another that tore a chunk from his left ear lobe. For that same reason, Kilkin keeps his hair short so that it doesn't come as a disadvantage in fights. His short mop consists of curly sandy brown hair, dotted here and there with natural red highlights.
His eyes are a bland dark hazel, almost black that seems to pierce anyone he looks at. His arms are littered with small scars from fights with his fellows that ended up in scuffles with either sharp rocks or short blades. As such, you can find Kilkin's attire usually complimented by a small dagger, which really is rarely used. Kilkin stands a modest five foot eight and wishes that he were taller so he could tower over people to assert himself better.
Kilk, as some call him, often wears dark earthen colors. He loves to walk about in a dark green and show off his white scars over his otherwise tan skin. His tanned skin makes his scars even more stand-out, as they tend not to tan as well as the rest of him. Kilkin sports a bulky kind of frame, muscle and padding as he calls it. He doesn't, however, look odd. Kilkin's bulk mostly comes from his outdoor escapades and labors.
Personality:
Rough and tough. That's Kilkin to a T. He takes charge, or nine times out of ten, someone ends up in the Infirmary. That's not always saying that its the other person, Kilkin ends up in the Infirmary a lot as well. Kilk likes to be busy, he enjoys working with his large, calloused hands doing any and everything that means heavy lifting.
Being as 'in charge' as Kilkin is, he really lacks almost any sense of humor. He prefers the company of people that won't end up getting punched in the face. Kilkin really isn't one to walk away from a fight though.
Kilk has a sweet side to him, should you be one of the lucky people that he actually cares about. Kilkin doesn't trust very quickly, and that makes it even harder on him, being as he sometimes takes jokes, especially about his appearance, as fighting words.
History:
Kilkin did not have a normal, or easy childhood. He was born of two riders early in 2995, around Feburary, in Selenitas Weyr luckily in a time of peace, for the most part. It wasn't long after little Kilkin was born that the Northern Weyrs began the Northern war. Both of his parents were low in rank among the riders, a blue and green dragon that seemed to always be together. Even at a young age, Kilkin always seemed to be fighting with the other children of the Weyr. He was always the one that had to be on top, or else. His antics made him a regular in the Weyr Infirmary where the Healers actually started teaching the boy small tricks of their trade. Nothing else to do when you are in there more often than not, right?
Though his parents were busy, keeping peace, and patrolling to prevent any more attacks like the one on the Dolphin Hall in 3000, Kilkin still didn't really have a reason to get into fights as much as he did. Kilkin was just always demanding respect and climbing up anyone to be on top of the situation. The first real tragedy in Kilk's life came when he was 11 Turns old. Thread returned, and with it, Kilk's parents both went out to defend the South. The problem was, Kilk's mother and her green never came back. His father was distraught, and Kilk ended up in the infirmary again, but this time, there was a huge gash on his face from a brutal fight. The Healers stitched him up, but everyone knew that it would scar, but Kilkin didn't care.
After Thread returned, it seemd as though everything in Selenitas went downhill quickly. The only good thing about these times was that a new bloodline had Impressed to a gold dragon, the girl's name was Shmee. Kilkin didn't know her very well, but then again, he didn't really know many riders or candidates that well. Kilkin had been in so many fights, and been taken so many times to the Infirmary, that he was actually barred from Standing until he was older and not so short tempered.
Through everything though, Kilkin's father was always around as much as he could be. He did still have to go about his patrols and when things erupted again and again regarding the war that was slowly becoming more than just a northern thing. It was perhaps a week after the horrible massacre of Weyrlings, that Kilk got into a bad fight with an old friend who was also upset about the deaths. The friend, an acquaintance of Kilk's from early childhood, his name was something around the lines of Rivig. The friend stabbed Kilk with a dagger that he had concealed on his person right in the stomach. Sadly, the boy was murdered by a feline not long after the fighting incident.
Kilkin was in the Infirmary for over a week, stabbed in the stomach from a short blade. This prompted Kilkin to start carrying his father's dagger. It was around this time that Kilkin began to realize that he was not attracted to women. He was much more attracted to effeminate men. He kept it mostly to himself and the one man he has ever been with.
It was after this, in 3010, that there was a decision made, that Kilkin would be banned from Standing until he could hold his temper in check better. He was given two options until that time. He could become a drudge in the kitchens, or he could start a sort of apprenticeship in the Infirmary. Kilkin decided to give his time to the Infirmary, and to learn how to heal both himself and others.
Just two turns later, in 3012, Benden invaded Selenitas. In the fighting, Kilkin heard the keening of his father's blue before the beast blinked between forever. It was another devastating time for Kilk, he was now alone, an orphaned, 17 Turn old weyrbrat. He had given himself quite a reputation around the Weyr by now, and had the battle scars to prove it. Kilkin became quiet, and got into even more fights. At least for a few Turns, things seemed to die down for Kilk at least. Things kept occuring in the Weyr that he can barely remember, Kilk was secluding himself more and more. Then Wastelanders Invaded.
It was hectic, people trying to fend off the invaders, no one seemed to really want to hurt anyone else, the riders just wanted to take over. They all tried to do it with as few casualties as possible, and it seemed that the Selenitas riders were thinking about the same thing. No one ever wants to see a dragon between forever, or the cries of a rider who is no longer whole.
Kilkin rounded a corner, in a dark side corridor, headed for the Infirmary to make sure everyone was ok, and ran right into a Wasteland rider that was completely taken by surprise. Unsure of where he was, and who was there, the rider lashed out and struck Kilkin's ear with his short blade.
Kilkin shoved the man to the side and ran, clamping his hand to his ear and dashing for the nearest place he could find. He ran into a Selenitas rider, X'rx if he remembered right, and the rider offered him asylum and helped him patch himself up. Unfortunately, the Wasteland rider had tore a chunk out of Kilk's right ear lobe near the bottom.
After a while, it really wasn't so bad adjusting to the Wasteland Weyr riders and folk being around. A new issue was arising. The Weyr that the exiled had established was raiding tithes. Burimyu Weyr, it was called. Kilkin wasn't sure what to think about this new Weyr, and the things they were doing to supply themselves with food and other things. At first it was just Benden tithes, but Kilk felt that Burimyu crossed the line when they began attacking Selenitas tithes. There was a battle between Selenitas and Burimyu over the tithes.
Not long after the battle over tithes, something even more devastating happened. Kilkin was out and about when the earth began to shake. Instinctively, he hit the ground and watched as the Weyr around him crumbled, people running around all over the place. It was horrible.
So many things gone, so many people dead. Dragons winking between never to be seen again. It was Burimyu Weyr that reached out and helped them. They offered Selenitas Weyr a new place to live, with them. The move was quick. Not much really survived the earthquake. Riders transported everything in the blink of an eye, including people.
It was early in 3017 when Kilkin became a Journeyman Healer, with the teachings of Kalierre, he was able to become a Journeyman in regards to human and dragon healing. Though Kilk is proud of his accomplishments in the Infirmary and the Healing Craft, he felt that something was missing.
It was only after the clutch that gold Millieth laid had Impressed and hatched that Kilkin finally decided to start standing. He had never given it much thought before, but really, if Kilkin wanted to be in charge, what better way than becoming a dragonrider? He put in to become a Candidate, as most Weyrbrats do long before his age. He had been banned when he was younger, but he recalled someone mentioning that he was eligible again a few Turns ago. Kilk had just never made a move to begin Standing.
Kilkin still has a few Turns to Impress before he becomes too old, and now is settling into the Candidate Barracks as a new Candidate.
