That certainly didn't sound offended. No, giggles in general were not what offended people made. For a moment he couldn't understand why she kept giggling, though. It wasn't really all that funny...but the nervous edge to it finally penetrated his awareness enough that he didn't let it derail what he needed to say. Some people - more often girls than guys - tended to giggle when they got nervous. That must be what was going on.
Cairenn seemed so young. How she described her life before the Weyr only reinforced that, along with the giggles. Auntie...horrible...nh. And now she was blushing, too, which made it seem a little less unreal for her to have propositioned him so directly just a moment ago. He found himself just kind of looking at her and trying not to be too obvious about it. She seemed so young. Was that just her height? How old was she? It couldn't be that young, could it? He was almost certain that she'd already been a rider before Inverness was formed, already a full rider. Which meant she couldn't be younger than...15. A'nd suppressed a twitch. Really young.
He hadn't even realized that the silence was edging toward uncomfortable, her hug catching him by surprise. His arms hung down limply as he looked down at the girl clinging to him. Tentatively, one hand came up to rub between her shoulderblades. Was she upse-? No. "Uh, you're welcome. I guess." He wasn't really sure what she was thanking him for, since he didn't think he'd actually been all that understanding or anything, but whatever. What was more distracting was having her clinging to him in the first place. He shifted slightly and cleared his throat, taking a step back. "I think the dragons are probably still eager for an oiling. We shouldn't disappoint."
