Humans:
Name: Tera
Age: 17, Spring of 3006
Gender: girl
Sexual Orientation: straight
Rank: candidate, grandfathered in
Physical Appearance:
Tera's most noticeable feature is her hair. Her chestnut locks fall in a curtain down her back, stopping a few inches above her waist. Her eyes are so light blue they sometimes seem to be grey. Her skin is very tanned, due to her upbringing at Ista Hold. She is tall, but not overly so, and her form is slender and child-like. She tends to wear trousers, prefering them to skirts as they allow more freedom of movement. She carries herself proudly, but doesn't seem overly so. She appears a girl who knows her place in the world, and is satisfied for the moment with it. She always looks ready for anything, at the same time. Even without any weapons of any kind.
Personality:
Tera likes to make herself known. Being groomed for marriage from the day of her birth made her hate being repressed. She behaves herself in front of her parents or other Ista relatives, but only when they are present. Once she is free of them, she is more energetic and willing to do other things that she would not normally even think about doing. She doesn't like people calling her a kid or telling her to be quiet, but she doesn't get as mad about that as she did when she was a child.
Tera is a very complex girl. She appears one way in front of strangers and adults, but becomes a completely different person when she considers someone a real friend. She's surprisingly talkative, and tends to prefer the topic of dragons and their colors. She wants to be known to the world. Secretly, all she wants is for her parents to be proud of her.
She also has a very good sense of direction.
History:
Tera was born in Ista Hold, as her parents had before her. She was taught from the day she could toddle that she had to learn to behave like a lady in order to find a suitable husband for when she was old enough to be wed. She didn't understand at the time, all she knew was that she had to be the good girl so her parents would be proud.
Her father was a Journeyman GlassCrafter, and often had her running errands for him. When she wasn't fetching supplies for her father, Tera was at the market for her mother. She became well known around the Hold, simply because she seemed to be everywhere. She could find anything if she just knew the street it was on.
When Tera was five Turns of age, she happened upon an engagement sale when she was delivering a small order for her father. It was inside a building, but Tera realized after a few minutes that the girl on the stand was being sold. She didn't know why, but the incident bothered her. Later on, when she was older, she saw another one. Then she realized that it was the same thing. And that it could very well happen to her.
Her life went on without incident until she turned eight. Her mother was trying to fit her into a dress that was an awful color green, and Tera had to speak out against it. Her mother knew that the child was right, but the act of defiance was not what a good lady did. It was the first time Tera had ever spoken out against her parents. She was punished harshly. It never happened again.
Again, her life passed without incident. Then they got a letter from one of the runners. Tera's mother's sister, who lived in Southern Hold, requested a visit from them. They made their way there quickly, with relatively no loss in time. What they didn't know was that the Searches had begun at the nearby Weyr, Selenitas. A BlueRider and his dragon descended from the skies one day, and Tera happened to be outside when he did. The dragon noticed something about the child, and claimed that the girl could be so much more than she was if she came to the Weyr with them. After talking with Tera's parents, who begrudgingly agreed, the girl was spirited away to Selenitas Weyr, and thus became a Candidate. She missed the Candidate lessons, though, so she was told that she would have to watch from the Stands this Hatching.
Three Turns ago, the war ended. By this point, Tera was old enough to know the effect the battles had on DragonKind. She hated seeing such magnificent beasts pitted against each other becuase of a failing on the part of the Pernese(humans). She was glad to find out about the end of the War, but wondered what would happen to her. When she was told she didn't have to go hme, she was immediately relieved. She wasn't engaged to anyone, and probably would've been before the next Clutch had been layed on the Sands. Then she wouldn't be able to Stand any longer. Or she could refuse engagement and be outcasted forever, even if she did Impress. Now, she didn't have to go back.
In 3020, Tera Impressed a Blue named Saphireth, from Kleopath's Clutch. The two are pretty much inseperable now. Weyrlinghood was, Tera thought, relatively easy. She found that she loved being in the sky on Saphireth's back, and she loved being with him in general.
She learned about the Summit shortly after she Impressed. If you'd ask her, she'd say that the Weyrs splitting is just not natural, and that the Weyrleader games aren't either. She'll tell you that she thinks the Summit is just afraid of the combined might of the Weyrs. Weyrs shouldn't have to barter for what they need, they should be able to provide for themselves without any need for outside help, or at least with the Tithe the Weyrs should be able to survive in relative comfort.
Dragons/Whers/Fire Lizards/Salamandyrs:
Name:Saphireth
Color:blue
Age:3 Turns
Physical Appearance: Aquarieth's hide is a dark, sapphire blue, like the sky as dusk nears. The undersides of his wings are a lighter, sky blue color. He is on the larger side, at just under 30 feet, but is more length than height. He is built much like a Green; slender and sleek, expertising in agility more than endurance. His hide has a healthy sheen, but not the same metalic glimmer as a Bronze or his Gold mother. His tail barbs are more pronounced than the average Blue, as are his neck spikes. He is surprisingly quiet when he flies, much like an owl at night.
Personality: Saphireth is much like His, showing a different him among others than when he is alone with His. He wants others to be proud of him, much like a young child would. He wants to try Chasing a Gold, even though he knows he probably won't Catch her. He is adventurous, but rarely does much without speaking to His.
Saphireth also has a surprising eye for color. He often "assists" with Tera's choice of dress, giving her his opinion on which colors go well together and which colors clash and are just awful. He notices the subtle differences in colors when the season changes from Summer to Fall, or from Winter to Spring. He is very observant in general, leading Tera to believe that he would be a good Search dragon. She has also told him that he would be good in reconissance, because of how little noise he makes when he flies.
