I'nos
(formerly Ilaxnos)
Age: 26
--September 2997
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Brownrider
Impressed to: Tirneth
Physical Appearance:
He has black hair that, when loose, goes to his shoulder blades. He usually keeps it in a braid or a ponytail to keep the bothersome strands out of his face. He has a wide jaw, prominent forehead, and slightly wide-set eyes, which are a deep hazel color. His nose is slightly crooked from it being broken when he was a child. He has lines on his face from smiling so much. He’s very tall, standing at about 6 foot 6 with a surprisingly big and muscular build for the son of a miner and a jeweler. He is always armed, even if it’s just with a small and simple dagger. His shoulders are particularly broad, as is his chest. His body is built for a fight, yet he’s incredibly agile with his fingers.
Since I'nos is very laid back, his clothes are usually rumpled and bed worn. He never really cares about his appearance and will only alter his appearance from his norm if the occasion calls for it. He usually wears modest dark garments. Shirts are typically long with V-shaped necklines. He wears boots as a default and rarely anything else, unless he’s going barefoot. Since Impressing, he now wears the knots of a brownrider, the only thing that particularly sticks out, as it is always pulled back.
Personality:
I'nos is laid back and easy going. He smiles a lot and enjoys shiny things. I'nos used to be a shameless flirt and he liked to dance, however that changed when he became intimidated by certain female riders. That was a trait that his father disliked, however I'nos did inherit a certain determination and strong work ethic from the man. He is annoyed by laziness, and is always trying to occupy himself, having yet to master the fine art of relaxing and lazing about, unlike his dragon. He likes to volunteer but only if he has the skills to get the job done. If he doesn’t know what he is doing when tasked, he will try anyway. I'nos does, however, have trouble asking for help. He hates to give up his work to someone else, feeling that he should be able to at least figure out how to do something. It will be a work-in-progress for I'nos to accept help from others.
This man is a believer in luck. He’s not afraid to do something on a gamble, unless someone’s life is at stake. Despite the typical chill towards the weyr that Hyphen held, I'nos never minded dragons or the goings on. In fact, he secretly dreamed of becoming a dragonrider just for the adventure of it. Since he knew that, at his age, he had only a few turns left before he “aged out”. He doesn’t mind pets, people, or conversation, and is content to keep these things around him. Ever the socialite, I'nos is drawn to congregations and large events. He never used to find other people's mistakes hilarious or funny, though his dragon seems to be a bad influence on him and now he's just as bad of a prankster or clown.
His being laid back doesn't happen to work in his favor though, since he is extremely laid back and it doesn't appear that his mindmate is any better at remembering things than him. If you expect him to remember anything that happened more than a year ago and it doesn't burn itself into his memory (ie. a flight, his Impressing, and important childhood memories) then you really shouldn't expect him to remember it because 8 times out of 10, he won't remember it or will only have a faint inkling of what you'referencing.
History:
Ixrom and Lasena had the fortune of giving birth to their son during the September of 2997. Ilaxnos was a healthy, happy baby. It was noted from birth the pair of lungs the child had. His life was quite simple in the beginning, like that often of many children. His parents loved him, his father worked hard, and his mother bore other children. Ilaxnos had accumulated four other siblings, all girls, by the time the turn 3006 came along. The force-mining that year took his father away from the family and it was then that his mother, a jeweler mostly by passion, dragged her eldest child and only son to work with her in her chosen trade. Cutting gems and crafting them into expensive jewelry and, occasionally, the pommels of practical weapons, and the hilts and blade of ceremonial weapons, appealed to his attraction to shiny baubles.
Through his mother, and following his mother, Ilaxnos became privy to all sorts of information. He heard all about such things as Shmee’s Impression to the golden Aslath and then Aslath’s rise to Senior queen in 3008. Following his mother around, Ilaxnos got very good at polishing stone and eavesdropping. Often he would sit and polish the stones or coil the wire learning all manner of things such as when Keagan came down from the north bearing a rumor of drugs. He retained his 12 turn-old comments when the hatchlings from her clutch were found with deformities.
Ilaxnos had travelled with his mother (“he can carry my supplies and clean my tools while I work”) to visit some of her family for a couple turns in Blossom Hold (her mother, Ilaxnos’ grandmother, had been ailing) when he had caught wind of the Weyrling Massacre that included the death of the newly hatched Aezanth and her Paryal. As well, he began to notice women at that time and became more daring, as he began to flirt and make friends. It was when Shmee was kidnapped and nearly killed that Ilaxnos’ mother tried to keep him closer at hand. Thus began the early rebellious years for Ilaxnos. His thirst for adventure heightened by the hatching of a new gold dragon and a bit of healthy fear put in place by the plague.
It was when Shmee was killed, Millieth rose to Senior queen, and Ilaxnos’ grandmother’s health took a decline that his mother put their things in order, keeping things sparse and ready for travel for after the anticipated death of his grandmother. The woman died in time for the small, private, death service to be held by the family and the travel back to Hyphen to take place just to find out about the Siege of Selenitas. The successive attack from Fort did not help matters and Ilaxnos, aged 15 at the time, was forbidden by his mother to travel.
At the age of sixteen, Ilaxnos’ father was killed in an accident that took place in one of the mines he was in. This made his mother further interested in absorbing her children into less dangerous occupations, and marrying off her eldest daughter to help keep the family afloat. The attempt on the clutch at the Selenitas sands at the time made Ilaxnos take up weapons training, buying a dagger from Elynael’s father and and training her as well so he had a sparring partner. This drive to learn to fight was fueled by the rumored disappearances and the epidemic happening at the weyr. Despite the danger that it seemed to pose, Ilaxnos thirsted to be part of the adventure that seemed to be happening and of becoming a dragonrider himself.
Ilaxnos became so caught up in perfecting his weapons training that he only heard of the river poisoning, the destruction of High Reaches, and the attack by Fort on Selenitas. With his middle sister taking his place as his mother’s assistant (though he still polished the stones best) he was able to hunt and provide what he could for the family. Whatever his oldest sister couldn’t send back from her wealthy husband. While not well off, his family didn’t suffer. Not like Selenitas did during the takeover of 3015 and the death of the hatchlings that turn. In silent tribute to the loss of such young lives, Ilaxnos made a leather and wire pendant that feature a stray diamond he’d snagged off of a mining cart just before the goods were sent out on a tithe that had been spared the recent raids.
That pendant was his secret pride until, at 18, his eldest sister died in childbirth. He sold the diamond for a high rice the following Gather, saving the currency he got off of it for an emergency, using what he sold from his mother’s usual wares to support the family. With his youngest sister becoming an apprentice healer (to help the injured miners) the family again had a reliable source of income. Again, Ilaxnos could focus on his weapons training, though he’d have to find a new sparring partner, Elynael having left during the Gather and his second to youngest sister had married off to a man in Blossom Hold.
During this time, Ilaxnos lost a bit of interest in the goings on of the weyr. He kept tabs on the dragons, such as Millieth’s being caught by the bronze Quarth, and then Quarth’s subsequent death in an Earthquake that rocked the very foundation of the weyr and was felt even as far away as Hyphen to some degree. This from a habit he picked up from Elynael since he no longer followed his mother so much.
Now Ilaxnos has re-picked up the craft of jeweling, finding it a good hobby that makes enough money to support himself and take the pressure off of his family. He resided in Blossom Hold, to stay with his married sister and help her and her husband and to get away from his home to create a bit of adventure for himself before he founds a wife, but was Searched by the greenrider Anusha and her dragon, Minth. He stood at the Epic Clutch hatching and Impressed to Tirneth. Werylinghood, to him, was actually kind of fun, especially since his bond with his dear Tirneth grew stronger. He regretted that Elynael grew distant after he Impressed; he'd just found out that she also Impressed a wher named Elynask and had hoped that she could be happy for his dream coming true, since she might understand what such a mindblowing experience was like. I'nos made many friends with his easy-going nature and Tirneth's antics. He had sparing enemies, but the ones he has hate him with a passion. When the Dragon War ended, he was pretty overjoyed to learn that it ended. The nine months of waiting for the snuffing out all of the bands that had formed was tiring, but ultimately satisfying. He agreed with the summit's decision, as he was sorted to stay at Selenitas Weyr.

"From the ashes a fire shall be woken"
Bonded To: I'nos
Name: Tirneth
Clutch: Herioc; Impressively Great
Dam and Sire: Nitrath and Weith
Color:Brown (170b00), Markings (a77e5a)
Appearance: Long and lean, Tirneth takes after his mother - she's the biggest Gold in the South, he will be one of the biggest browns. Unlike some of his clutchmates, though, he won't look it. Measured straight from nose to tail tip, he'll stretch over 37 feet, although most of the extra length comes from his tail - his frame is distinctly brown-sized, even if it is large brown sized. Every part of him is overlong, from his legs to his neck to his wings, and as a young dragon his limbs will be awkward but solidly sleek, packed with muscle. As he ages, that may begin to atrophy somewhat, softening into gently slack pudge, but honestly, Tirneth will never look anything but skinny. Even eating five chubby herdbeasts a day won't put an extra pound on his frame, nor will endless exercises increase his bulk. His body is as stubborn and awkward as he can be, and that is that.
Of course, since every bit of him is long, his wings are long too. They are not, however, wide, and the lack of surface area will make liftoff challenging, at least at first. On the ground he is awkward and uncoordinated, often pratfalling and endlessly clumsy; in the air, he isn't much better. While other dragons seem to be able to straighten out once they're in the air, Tirneth will always look like he's hanging limp from his wings, and while it looks funny from the ground, it won't be so funny for his rider. He'll never have much speed or stamina, although the long, thin wings will make his agility superb... too bad his body flaps around like a forgotten rag, only his neck and head seeming to stay in contact with his shoulders. It is especially silly when you take into account the extra long tail, which whips and flips of it's own accord, only appearing more obvious and strange because it is missing the split finial most dragons have. His tail tapers smoothly to a point. It is a minor disfigurement, but it does seem to hinder his steering, if only a little.
A rich espresso brown covers this dragon's hide, so dark it is nearly black. He is liberally speckled with freckles the color of a latte, which cluster thicker on paws, nose, and tail tip. Only his wingsails are pure, unspoiled brown, although the bones of his wings also bear the telltale freckles. His extra-large eyes nearly always whirl with the green of amusement, and his mouth almost always open in the imitation of a human laugh or smile. He figures if humans express entertainment through laughter, why can't a dragon?
Personality: Tirneth is always the goofball, the class clown. Even when he doesn't mean to be (and he doesn't always) he is hilarious. Bad luck seems to follow him, but he can always rely on one of his many friends to get him out of a jam. For if nothing else, Tirneth is absolutely a pleasure to be around; no one is more well-versed in laughing at themselves, and at making others laugh right along with him. No matter what goes wrong in his life - if banana peels mysteriously appear in his path, rain dumps on him right after an oiling, or an errant gust blows a big tangle of thread into his face - Tirneth will treat it like a hilarious joke, perpetrated by the universe on him. That doesn't mean, though, that he won't go out of his way for a great pun or hilarious turn of phrase. If his friends are laughing, Tirneth is happy. Of course, not everyone will be his friends - he has a nasty habit of laughing at those who are angry or annoyed, and some creatures are certain to take that the wrong way (especially wingleaders and teachers who are trying to get him to be useful). Nothing makes him angry, so he cannot be baited into a fight, but if someone else strikes first, he won't hesitate to protect himself or escape, whatever seems best.
The Brown will never seek to lead, and honestly he is more of a follower. He is patently uncomfortable in positions of power, and will treat any appointment beyond Wingrider as a joke (generally leading to shoddy work and demotion). His good humor and good nature will win him plenty of friends, but Tirneth's need for attention comes from a deep-seated insecurity, something he may never shake. Secretly, he is ashamed of his body and his strange tail, and his inability to take anything seriously makes him worry about his personality. He wishes he was sleek and smooth, suave with the ladies like some of his siblings, but he knows he never will be and accepts it (never mind that many females find his genial personality far more interesting than the cotton-brained pretty ones). He will chase, but less often than most, and he tends to go after greens that have little to no interest in him - that way he can laugh at what little chance he had when they don't pick him. It is rare for him to chase greens he actually cares for, and even rarer for him to to go after golds; he'll only attempt those two categories of female when the outcome is 100% assured (the one exception to this rule is Quesseth - the two will always be the closest of friends, and he will chase her every time she rises). No matter what, Tirneth will always think of himself as a fraud; he believes he himself is somehow a joke on the world, one he's not in on.
It is highly likely that Tirneth will keep that outlook always, and take his insecurity to his grave. It is possible, however, that if put in a dire and desperate situation where His, a true love, or the weyr of his birth is in danger, he will stop the jokes for a moment and rise to the occasion. If this ever happens - truly, it would have to be a life or death situation, or a time when only his action could save Selenitas from destruction - he may find out that he's braver, stronger, and more capable than he ever imagined. That would lead to a much improved dragon, one who loves himself as much as his rider loves him, and who values himself as a contributing member of society. That could lead to a more well-adjusted Brown that will take things more seriously, who may even be comfortable leading a wing, or chasing those females he isn't sure of. Only time will tell.
