Name: Saphor
Age: 28 Turns
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual as far as she knows, very little life experiences.
Rank: Bluerider
Physical Appearance:
Saphor has long blonde hair that falls in natural waves around her face. The color of her hair is honey-kissed blonde and grows down to about mid back. Her eyes are a beautiful blue color, the same shade as the sky on a spring day, ringed with a darker color, causing her eyes to stand out quite a bit. Her skin is slightly tanned in the summertime, but it lightens up during the winter when she’s inside a lot. There are a few, very light freckles spread across her face, visible upon close inspection, but not much so from farther away. Her eyebrow are a shade darker than her hair, and her eyes are delicately almond shaped.
She isn’t terribly tall, standing around five foot five. Saphor is slightly muscled from working on the family farm, but she isn’t muscled enough to make her seem unattractive. Her face is heart shaped, with a small chin and a slightly squared jaw. Overall, she can be described as thin, but not at all frail. Since she was so used to doing heavy labor from a very young age, she has a power about her, a presence. Her hips are slightly wide from having given birth.
Personality: Anyone who knew Saphor as a child probably wouldn’t think she would get anywhere in life. Her personality traits were all to the extreme, to a fault. She was kind to the point where she would give the shirt off her back to someone less fortunate than herself, soft-spoken, never assertive or aggressive. If someone did something against her, she would almost always turn the other cheek. She had such a kind attitude and was extremely forgiving to everyone. It was difficult to make her angry, and she was just easy to be around.
Looking back, Saphor never liked this version of herself. After Piden left, her personality did a complete about face. She became argumentative, angry most of the time. She closed in on herself, refusing to let anyone in. She refused to let anyone hurt her ever again like Piden did and became snippy and difficult to be around. Sarcastic and cynical, Saphor lost many friends because of her personality shift, but she couldn’t help it. She didn’t want to hurt ever again. However, something else would happen in Saphor’s life that would cause her personality to evolve even more.
Phaiden.
After the birth of her daughter, Saphor would slowly start to open up. She started to learn that she could love someone with every ounce of her being and not worry about being hurt. Her daughter is the apple of her eye, her absolute everything. Being the only family she has right now, the girl is protected and spoiled at times. Saphor is positively vicious in the protection of her child. If anyone even threatens to harm her, the girl has no problem ripping them apart…sometimes literally.
To other people, she has learned that she can’t be argumentative and snappy all the time. Phaiden has taught her that love is possible again, though she is still very easy to anger, she’s better at restraining herself. Now all of the bad qualities she had when Piden left started to change into more positive qualities. Now she is assertive, but knows where to draw the line, determined to get what she wants, ambitious; when she sees what she wants, she goes after it and when she goes for things, she more times than not gets them. One thing she never quite shook is the ability to hold a grudge. When someone does something wrong, really wrong, she can hold a grudge for years. It really depends on the severity of the transgression.
History: Saphor was born on a cothold outside of Selenitas Hold in March of 2995. She grew up happily enough with two older brothers. Though she was close to her siblings, she was never too close. She was always too soft-spoken for their games, and more often than not, they chose each other or other children from the cothold to play with. This was just fine for Saphor. She was always busy anyway. A drought when the children were young caused the burden that was placed on them even heavier. The three of them worked almost constantly, though the stronger boys often got more free time than their sister, who had to struggle to keep up with their pace.
Besides having to work extra, Saphor wasn’t aware of what was going on in the outside world, and she didn’t really care. The sweet, kind girl was content with her life and what was in it. Until Piden started showing an interest in her when she was fourteen. She had known of the boy, who had always been her brothers’ playmate, but she didn’t really know him. When he started to show interest in her, Saphor was initially shy and unsure, though the boy’s undeniable charms worked on her and they were soon in a sexual relationship. Piden was her first, and he was so gentle with her. With her limited experience of the world, Saphor soon found herself falling in love with him. Of course, Piden’s feelings weren’t the same, but the girl wouldn’t find this out until she found out until Piden left suddenly. She didn’t understand why he would leave, and she found herself crushed. Hurt and emotionally alone, she would soon find out why Piden left her.
She was pregnant.
With as little life experience as she had, Saphor didn’t know what it felt like to be pregnant, but her mother was the second one to realize that she was having a child, behind Piden of course. Her parents were always very supportive of her, but once she became pregnant, they pushed her away a little bit. She still worked, up until the time that her child was going to be born, and after. Unfortunately, being emotionally strained from her family caused her to have to grow up a lot. She was taking care of her child on her own.
Even though she was making it on her own the best she could, the desire for revenge was bottled up within her. She knew by now that Piden had known that she had been pregnant, and she wanted to…well, she didn’t know what she wanted to do once she found the father of her child, but she didn’t think that far ahead. She sought out Piden’s parents, introduced them to their grandchild and tried to get Piden’s location out of them. As much as they felt for her, they couldn’t tell her where their son was because they honestly didn't know. Undaunted, Saphor went home and raised her daughter for a few more years.
Saphor was raising her daughter well, but the betrayal of the girl’s father was never far from her mind. On one of the trips that Saphor took with Phaiden to visit the girl’s grandparents, she laid on thick the idea that her daughter could not grow up not knowing her father. She didn’t really want her daughter to have contact with Piden, but she needed his parents to think that she did. It worked. They finally told her that they found out he had been living in Selenitas weyr all this time, though that was all she got out of them. Phaiden was six at this point. Despite her reluctance to let the girl have anything to do with Piden, she saw some sense in making her daughter happy by allowing her to write letters to her father, because letters never caused any harm. Pilas agreed to deliver the letters to his son, because Saphor wasn't sure she was ready to confront him. For two years, off and on, Phaiden wrote letters to her father, but she didn't get anything in return. The anger that she felt for the man abandoning his own child and then ignoring her letters started to boil within her. One day, she decided that she had enough of it. If Piden wasn't going to acknowledge the existence of his own child, then she was going to go there and force him to acknowledge Phaiden.
She made plans to leave the cothold for the weyr, packing up her daughter along with everything she owned. First she made it to Selenitas hold, but she was stuck there for a while, unsure of how she was going to make it to the weyr all alone with an eight year old daughter. She was determined, though and opportunity soon presented itself in a search, and Saphor was quickly snatched up by the search dragon. She never thought that she would make a likely candidate because of her daughter, but the searchrider told her otherwise and she was soon on her way to the weyr, and to face the man who abandoned her and her daughter all those years ago.
And you know what they say; revenge is a dish best served cold…very cold in Saphor’s case.
Since she had never been too aware of the weyr, she had no idea of the growing tensions between Fort, Benden and Selenitas. She had literally no idea what she was getting herself into with the “new” Selenitas.
Saphor found life oddly pleasant as Selenitas. Her first few meetings with Piden didn't go as well as she had expected, but oddly, he was very good with the daughter he hadn't wanted to be around until now. At first, the woman was wary about leaving her daughter with him, but over time, she realized that Piden was serious when he said he wanted to be a part of Phaiden's life.
Life continued relatively normally for her and her daughter. Saphor got her own apartment in the weyrfolk apartments with Phaiden; she was glad she didn't have to live with the other candidates and also have to deal with a child at the same time, even if she hadn't wanted any special treatment. She took care of Phaiden, and let her go stay with the wherhandlers when she couldn't keep an eye on her. She stood for hatchings, never impressed. She even found herself getting involved with Piden again, something she swore she would never do.
But she'd forgotten how amazing he could be.
Like that erased all the awful things he did.
But he'd seemed to mature, and even Saphor couldn't get rid of her nature to give people second chances. She even made friends in one of her fellow candidates, Ivy, and the brownhandler Zemaren
She finally impressed at Nitrath's first hatching...which was an unwelcome surprise. Up until now, she had only been attending hatchings out of duty. She actually didn't want a dragon anymore. After having spent so much time with the handlers, she found that she much preferred whers. Unfortunately, Eldath didn't seem to get the message and crashed right into her after his sister hatched. He was a silly little thing, seemingly stupid as a box of rocks but physically perfect and gorgeous. Despite her best efforts, she found herself falling for the little guy. The only bad thing about the hatching was that Ivy didn't impress.
Saphor didn't have much of a role in the war. Eldath was still too young to have a big part in it. But with the summit came rumors of changes. Upset with the choices made and desperate not to have her family split up, Saphor and Piden made a deal to become weyrmates in name. They, along with their daughter, would live together part of the time and Piden would live with Roivao in the wherhandler apartments. It was a strange arrangement. At first, she wasn't sure how she felt about it. Pidesk needed the dark, though, and Eldath needed the light, so it was the best they could do with what they had.
Dragons/Whers/Fire Lizards/Salamandyrs:
Elven Blue
Bonded To: Saphor
Name: Eldath
Color: Blue (00ade6), Markings (abcdef)
Appearance: Eldath is... perfect. There is really no other word for this dragon, and none of his sisters will come close to matching his beauty. Regardless of personal taste or sexual orientation, the Blue is nothing short of gorgeous, and no one will be able to deny that. Even the most gold-loving of Bronzes would be able to find no other adjective; he is neither strong nor stalwart nor handsome, or rather he is, but only in perfect proportions. It is only his beauty that sticks out. He knows it, too, and is happy to pick poses that show off exactly how stunning he is. Standing, sitting, flying, even sleeping, no one can help how often their eyes rest on Eldath's perfect body. It just happens.
Honestly, he's fairly average as far as size goes, but the perfect, delicate symmetry of his form, the elegant curve of his neck and tail, and his understated yet clearly powerful musculature make him seem far more that simply "average". His wings, too, are perfectly normal in size, and in flight he will have the best of all worlds: he absolutely dances in the air, even if he is just flying straight. With speed, agility, and good stamina (for a blue anyway) on his side, outflying other blues will be incredibly simple. He will be as good in battle as he is in threadfall; flowing from enemy to enemy, dazzling them with his startling, near-impossible maneuvers, taking them out, and moving on. On land, even as a hatchling, he will be no less impressive, seeming to glide along like a swan on a lake.
His hide looks somewhat like a lake too, albeit a very pale, clear one. Always reflectively shiny, even when he hasn't been oiled in weeks, Eldath's hide is a stunning shade of bright sky blue, or maybe the color of a tropical sea. Paws, tail, face, and wingsails bleed into a silvery pale blue, more of a cornflower shade than anything, although approaching white rather than approaching purple as darker cornflower shades do. This silvery shade has a definite shine even compared to his usually shiny hide, metallic like a gold or bronze rather than matte like a normal blue. It traces faint ribbons and lace all over the tropical blue of the rest of his hide, blurring into faint swirls from a distance but intricately detailed up close. It could easily be gaudy, but Eldath being Eldath, the overall effect is incredibly tasteful in every way. To finish everything off, his left forefingers bear a total of three ring-markings, tropical blue standing out sharply against silver-blue.
Personality: Beautiful outsides, beautiful insides, right? Well... arguably, in Eldath's case. He is gentle and kind and above all courtly and polite, especially with females, but it cannot be denied that Eldath is downright stupid. His bonded will have to do most of the thinking for the pair, at least thinking that goes beyond following orders, courting females, and destroying enemies. Forgetful and not remotely street-smart, he is especially prone to stating the obvious ("Thread is falling!" as he appears at the leading edge of a Fall, for instance) and making completely unnecessary observations ("Ah, the sun is bright today"), especially when they take attention away from whatever important thing is going on. Luckily his mindvoice is as silvery and sleek as he is, so it is fairly easy to forget exactly what idiocy he is spouting if you aren't paying close attention.
Beyond a bit of extra fluff instead of grey matter, Eldath tends to be quite serious and fairly dramatic about everything, making the smallest, simplest interactions into situations of epic proportions. Every feeling seems amplified a hundred times or so, so if someone is marginally nice to him they are his best friend ever, if someone is marginally mean they become a sworn enemy, and if he feels vaguely attracted to them, well. True love, obviously, which is very different from Flight. He especially likes shiny gold hides, but any shiny hide will do in a pinch, and he will do his best to attract the bright ones with little coy glances, meeting of the eyes, etc. Then he'll worship whichever one seems most resistant from afar, and eventually declare his passionate devotion. He expects to be rejected, of course - if she did not reject him she would not be the virtuous Queen he thought she was, after all - so he will have to prove his unending commitment with oaths of love and heroic deeds, accompanied by all the hallmarks of love sickness. That's usually where it ends; he'll attempt to fly the Gold (or occasionally Green) in question, but if she ever picks him, he'll do his best to hide the fact from the world, being humble and attempting to cleverly conceal their love. It isn't seemly, after all, for a Queen to be mated to someone as lowly as Eldath. He expects to be displaced, so the game can begin again.
He treats his bonded, male or female, as a part of himself, and Eldath loves himself at least as much as he loves the golds he tries to court. They will be showered in gifts and praise and devotion, and he will do his best to make them happy, often meddling in their affairs to do so. Noticed a pretty/handsome Rider at dinner? Expect to run into them constantly, walk in on them bathing, etc. Eldath may not be smart, but he has a talent for setting people up with each other that borders on brilliance, even if things don't usually turn out quite as he planned. He especially enjoys forbidden love, so if the Weyrlingmaster or Wingleader is an appropriate match, expect to be in awkward situations with them embarrassingly frequently. He also has an extremely close relationship with his sister, Nogoth; the pair will be nigh inseparable, her sensibleness and sharp wit balancing out Eldath's endless foolishness. He'll fly her whenever he can, and the riders had better like each other, because they will be spending a disgusting amount of time together. However, Nogoth will never be courted like a Queen - she's different, Eldath will insist, without being able to explain.
