Humans:
Name:Cainith
Age: 37 (Born April 25, 2986)
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Bluehandler / Jr. Journeyman Miner
Family
Weyrmate: Ivy of Blue Lighth
Son: Aithyn
Physical Appearance:
The first thing almost anyone notices about Cainith is his size... at just over 7 feet tall and weighing in at over 480 pounds (equal parts fat and muscle), Cainith doesn't exactly blend in with a crowd. His skin is ruddy, his eyes dark-brown pools usually twinkling with mirth beneath his heavy brows, his dark brown hair often unkempt and a bit wild. He keeps his thick chest-length beard neatly trimmed and combed, though, to keep control of the food crumbs that often collect in it. His hands are thick-fingered and calloused from years of working the mines and earning his keep with physical activities.
Personality: Cainith not only is big, he lives big. You can often hear him coming before you see him, due to his loud, boisterous laugh, which he does quite often when hanging around those he enjoys the company of. He often disconcerts the more stand-offish sorts with his normal greeting of a hearty slap on the back... a slap that, with his strength, often can send a smaller person flying, or even a mid-sized man stumbling. In the hand he doesn't use for greeting people, he is often holding some variety of food. Cainith is a big eater, and it's not often you see his hand empty of a meat roll, a large fruit or vegetable, or a chicken leg.
Another often-seen aspect of Cainith's personality is his urge to be helpful or useful, especially when it comes to things he interprets as being harder/necessary due to his size (such as helping prepare food in the kitchens to make up for the extra he eats). Two things, however, are almost guaranteed to stifle his generally happy disposition... mentioning his mother, or speaking about dragons, especially when speaking of the things being Impressed by a dragon allows you to do or see. Insult his mother, however, and it's a completely different story... a story that often lands those who make such a mistake in the infirmary.
History:
2986 - 2999: Birth, Early Life, Miner Crafthall
Born 2986 in Crom Hold to Caine and Alethia, his mother died due to complications with the birth stemming from his massive size, even as a newborn. Cainith's father, a member of the Miner Crafthall, quickly found a new wife so as to avoid taking care of the gigantic child himself, though because of the amount of food it required to keep the boy fed as he grew up, his father was never able to support more than one wife, something he quietly resented Cainith for.
When Cainith was 5 turns, he asked his father why his "mother" looked nothing like him, at which his father stated that his birth mother had died "bearing his great bulk". It was at this point Cainith took the blame of his mother's death on his own wide shoulders, and began treating his adoptive mother more like a nursemaid. Never having known his mother, and never getting a description out of his taciturn father, Cainith created his own version of his birth mother in his imagination, thinking none of the quiet, downtrodden women of Crom Hold could have possibly contributed to the creation of one such as himself. Therefore, Cainith imagined his mother as a powerful Madonna-like figure, and he almost began to worship the image of the "perfect mother" he had created.
Cainith, for his part, kept his size as he grew older, and his father was actually able to sneak him into the Mining Crafthall at the age of 7, the boy's massive bulk convincing the Masters that he was instead 10 turns old. Cainith excelled as a miner, his size and power allowing him the output of three men, though the Miner Crafthall's view on women would cause problems for him socially. His fellow miners eventually learned never to speak ill of Cainith's mother around him, as the beatings he delivered were swift and severe... and though he could do nothing to someone of higher rank than him speaking ill of her, the frustration from having to hold himself back made the beatings delivered to those he COULD get away with attacking that much worse.
2999 - 3008: Search, Benden Weyr, Aging Out
In 2999, at the age of 13, Cainith was sent with a group from the Mining Crafthall to Telgar Hold for a Gather, more because Cainith's strength allowed him to carry extra equipment and product than because of any kindness from the Masters. While at the Gather, a small number of Benden Searchers were allowed to do their duty, the Gather being considered neutral during the war, and Cainith was Searched by this small group. Thus did Cainith move from Crom Hold to Benden Weyr. Life in the Weyr was quite a bit different from his life in the Crafthall, though the normal northern attitude towards women was still as negative as always... it just wasn't nearly as misogynistic as the Miner Crafthall was, so Cainith ended up spending less time getting in fights in anger. However, the teachers and riders at the Weyr did take note of his strength and skill at fighting, and pushed him into training in hand-to-hand combat, so he could have skill to accompany his strength, and Cainith took to the training easily, becoming one of the best wrestlers in the Weyr. During his final four years at the Weyr, Cainith was actually a sort of benchmark, and anyone who could best him (or even stalemate him) in a wrestling match was lauded by his peers and given great respect.
Cainith never had many friends at Benden Weyr, though many people, both other Candidates and riders, saw the usefulness of having someone of his size and ability as a close ally, so courted his favor. Cainith wasn't stupid, however, and could tell most of those trying to be his friend only did so in order to earn him as a tool rather than an actual companion, but after his life of near total friendlessness, he took what he could get, always keeping the truth of the matter in the back of his mind.
Year after year passed by in Benden Weyr without Cainith Impressing a dragon, and finally he aged out of his chance in the turn 3008. Not wanting to return to his life in the Mining Crafthall, Cainith did what he could to stay useful in the Weyr. In the ensuing years, he began questioning to himself why he was Searched, and to protect his own ego, started to emphasise or create negative consequences to Impressing a dragon (they're too smart for their own good, it's not good to have something that intelligent sharing your mindspace, ect.) until he had convinced himself that he was lucky to have not Impressed a dragon.
3008 - 3015: Leaving Benden, Wasteland Weyr, Move to Selenitas Weyr
Finally, in 3012, after the events that left C'leon dead and J'lorin as Weyrleader, one of the "friends" of Cainith, H'nes, came to Cainith and asked him to come along as he and some others left Benden Weyr to travel the world in search of their fortunes. Happy for an excuse to leave Benden Weyr behind and do something more interesting with his life, Cainith agreed, and he, H'nes, and the others left soon after.
After travelling the lands with H'nes and his associates for a time, the group settled in Wasteland Weyr, where Cainith again settled in to make himself useful, oftentimes working as a tithe caravan guard. After the invasion of Selenitas in 3015 (which Cainith, not being a rider, did not participate in, and only heard about mainly from his fellow Wastelanders, coloring his perceptions of what occurred), and Wasteland Weyr Candidates began to move into Selenitas, Cainith was presented by H'nes as a Candidate to Selenitas Weyr, realizing that the whers that Selenitas had (but Benden lacked) gave Cainith another chance to Impress. Cainith gladly accepted the offer, and after his acceptance, moved into Selenitas Weyr that same turn.
3015 - 3017: Wher Candidacy, Meeting Ivy, Learning the Truth, Selenitas Earthquake
Cainith lived in Selenitas, making the association of fellow Candidate Ivy, and slowly developing a friendship with the young woman... a friendship that had Cainith learn the horrible truth of what the Wastelanders had been up to while he was back at Monaco Bay Weyr. During this time, Cainith also (accidentally) attended a salamandyr hatching, where he Impressed a fanatical little blue he named Rollhead. After this point, Cainith began trying to figure out how to remove the Wastelanders from power without getting himself or anyone else killed, while his relationship with Ivy became more serious... at least to him.
Finally, it seemed fate had it in store to take care of his problem for him, as during the Selenitas Earthquake of 3017, many Wastelanders, including H'nes, were killed, and after the survivors of the quake had gathered, the former exiles of Burimyu Weyr arrived, using the fact that Wasteland has lost most of it's power to take in the remaining Selenitas survivors and transfer them all to the hidden Weyr of Burimyu, now called New Selenitas.
3017 - 3020: Impressing Cainsk, Birth of Aithyn, Weyrmating with Ivy, the Dragon War, Pern Summit
Cainith settled in easily to the new Weyr... though his relationship (as it was) with Ivy got rocky, especially after an incident in the jungles involving a bluerider named F'ur. Everything changed, however, in December of 3017, when Cainith finally attended the first wher hatching since his arrival at Old Selenitas, which resulted in him Impressing his wher, Cainsk, and finally freeing him from Candidacy.
Wherling training went by quickly, and somehow the combination of Cainith's schedule shift and the time he ended up spending apart from Ivy because of it caused their relationship to grow stronger, despite some hiccups due to a few poorly-timed salamandyr Runs that Ivy's salamandyr, Perses, involved himself in. Then, finally, soon after being left standing on the Sands at Nitrath's maiden clutch in 3018, Ivy discovered she was pregnant. Though he knew it would prevent her from Standing at the next scheduled clutch, Cainith was ecstatic... he would soon have a child with the woman he loved.
Said child, a son the couple named Aithyn, was born April of 3019, the same month as his father's Turnday. After Aithyn was born, Ivy decided to move into Cainith's apartment in the wherhandler's apartments, and the new little family adapted to their new life, with Cainith doing his wherhandler duties in the evening, and taking care of Aithyn in the morning and afternoon after he woke up, and Ivy going to Candidate lessons and chores in the morning and afternoon, then watching Aithyn in the evenings. In the gaps, Aithyn stayed in the creche, though with their opposite schedules, he was mostly kept with his parents.
Finally, in late 3019, after having been left Standing on the Sands for 4 hatchings, and missing one due to pregnancy, Ivy Impressed a blue dragon named Lighth at Millieth's hatching. Unfortunately, due to her new bondmate, Ivy was forced to move out of Cainith's apartment, leaving Aithyn to stay with Cainith while she moved into the weyrling barracks. The fact she had finally Impressed, though, after nearly aging out after so many Turns, made Cainith happy despite no longer having their family living together anymore.
Things in the Weyr itself, however, were apparently getting exciting, though with Cainith as a wherhandler and Ivy as a weyrling, the Dragon War (as it would come to be known as) was something they only heard about, not participated in. At long last, in mid 3019, the War was finally ended, and the background threat of the Northern Weyrs discovering New Selenitas that hovered over the southern Weyr faded. Then, in 3020, a Pern-wide Summit was held, and everyone, North and South, waited to see what would occur.
3020 - 3023: Reassignment, A Family Divided, A New Start
The Pern Summit brought with it great change, however, and grim tidings... especially for Cainith's brand-new little family. It was determined that all Crafters would be taken from the Weyrs and distributed to Holds, and that all dragonriders would be pooled, then divided between Selenitas Weyr and Inverness Weyr, a new Weyr they were constructing in the North to replace Benden and Fort Weyrs. Cainith spoke with Ivy, and they agreed that he would move with Aithyn to Blossom Hold, where Ivy would join them after her weyrling training was complete.
So, while Ivy stayed behind in New Selenitas to complete her weyrling training with Lighth, Cainith and young Aithyn bid farewell to their lover and mother, respectively, and moved with Cainsk and Rollhead to Blossom Hold. Life was hectic for the first Turn in Blossom Hold, as everyone tried to figure out how to adapt to their new lives, and a new war-free world. Cainith tried his best to visit New Selenitas when possible, but with Ivy's busyness with weyrling training combined with Cainith's own hectic schedule causing him to rarely be able to visit in the first place, he and Aithyn was rarely able to spend any time with her, though they both treasured what time they could spend together.
Finally, as Ivy's weyrling training came to a close in early 3021, the time had come to reunite their little family. Ivy and Lighth moved down to Blossom Hold to become a watchdragon pair, and at long last everyone was together once more. As 3023 dawned, Cainith was content... the Weyrleader Trials were approaching, but as a Holder, such things seemed as distant as his old life in the North.
Epic Blue
Bonded to: Cainith
Name: Cainsk
DOB: December 3017
Age:: 5
Color: Blue #CCFFDD #4682B4
Physical Appearance: As far as blues go, this one is only a touch larger than the largest green whers. He's best described as compact in build which, of course, lends to his small stature. He has a fair bit of lean muscle on his frame that falls just short of making him seem stocky. There are a couple physical curiosities about this wher. The most obvious being that he has two sets of ridges that slowly merge back into the usual one half way down his back. The far less noteable oddity is that his front right leg is actually slightly smaller than his left. It would take close comparison to notice but it's there nonetheless. His wings are a fair size for his muscled body. If not for the bulk of his muscle they would actually be overlarge for his size. As it is, they're just perfect to allow him decent gliding skills.
Even if this blue didn't want to be noticed, he wouldn't have much of a choice with his colouring. This blue is predominantly a pale, pale blue. There is precisely zero difference in shade of this colour across his hide. Not to say he's one solid colour, though. His only marking, if one could call it that, is his left hind leg. No, the marking is not on the leg,but actually covers the entire limb. His entire leg starting from just slightly below the joint is a steel blue in colour that is in sharp contrast with his pale blue colouring. The two colours meet but do not mingle in the least, almost like an artist had drawn a line between the two.
The Epic blue moves with a curious mix of almost paranoid twitchiness and nonchalance. Or rather, he's ready to spring into action at any moment without hesitation but he desperately tries to project that he's not. He strives not for grace in his movements but precision. Every movement matters in both its potential and its appearance. He also physically broadcasts annoyance or slight aggression unless he's overwhelmed by another emotion. As far as gliding goes, this blue is fully capable of it but generally doesn't bother. Not enough control of the outcome of a glide in his opinion.
Personality: At first glance, this wher appears to be nothing more than a brat. He frequently insults others' intelligence and actions and likes to tease Casansk. He seems wholly interested in only himself. He will do the exact opposite of what he's ordered to do just because he can. This, naturally, isn't all this blue is but it's what most outsiders see. His and his siblings are not these strangers, at least not in the long run. While initially he may treat them in such a way the close contact involved in wherlinghood will ultimately chip away any reservations about them. Then his front - make no mistake, that's what it is - will fall to pieces around them.
Underneath, this blue is surprisingly vulnerable. Those he has learned to trust hold so much sway over his heart that one simple misinterpreted comment can have him moping (albeit, privately) for days. The reverse is true too, of course. If they've said something nice, or are just happy in general, then this blue usually is too. He can't stand his siblings (Casansk in particular) or His being upset and he will put aside his considerable pride to do anything that will help them. His determination to make it all better for his loved ones extends to any other goal he has too.
Goals such as an increase in his knowledge. This blue seeks to know everything he possibly can, often to his own detriment. He doesn't necessarily mean to get in trouble but it seems drawn to him like a magnet. Thankfully, this guy is rediculously smart. Smarter, generally, than most humans. He also doesn't know how to turn that big brain of his off. While he's not immune to bad choices (particularly if his loved ones are involved) he actually manages to avoid the worst of them. He's also smart enough to recognize right from wrong and is curiously adamant about protecting the right. And truth. And innocence. Hmm.
Name: Rollhead
Hatched: December 3016
Age: 6
Color: Base: 270362; Markings: 00a876
Appearance: Perfection. With the only exception that he just might be a touch smaller in size than normal, given his parents, this blue is a prime example of the normal composition of a salamandyr. His tail is twice as long as his body, the head tapers down with no discernible neck to his snout, his wings aren’t large enough for true flight or more than limited gliding, and his frill is both completely intact and not so large as to get in the way. No mutations. Only one strange marking apart from the more common ones in the form of twin ‘eyes’ on his wings. The marking is roughly eye-shaped, but seems to be dripping, much like it had been recently painted on the membrane. It is white on the left wing and black on the right.
Aside from the aforementioned markings, the male’s coloring is not particularly special, though it is rather pleasing to the eye. His base color is a cool matte hue of dark teal that is much akin to deep water when the sun is shining brightly down on it. Two strips of unevenly spaced dots run down either side of his spine, these a more vibrant sea-green color. His spines are the same, but the membranes of both wings and frill are a curious shade of translucent gold. It is a subtle hue that some might call off-white shading toward yellow, but there is definitely that metallic sparkle in the gossamer webbings, and the white marking on the left wing pops enough to highlight that the color definitely isn’t white.
Personality: This ‘mandyr’s egg might have been rotated a little too much when his dam and sire were making sure he was well-incubated. Certainly it would not be surprising if he’d spent the majority of his gestation with the blood concentrated in his teensy brain. This male, you see, is thoroughly convinced that His is a goddess. We are not talking a slightly abnormal tendency toward hanging onto every word of His. No. We are talking full-out abject worship, where every word that falls from the lips of Cainith is divine law and it must be carried out to the best of the blue’s ability. His may only be addressed as Goddess by the lesser beings (read: everyone) lest they be corrected harshly and accused of blasphemy.
It must be understood that, to this little guy, it is not enough that he be obedient to his Goddess. He must insure that every other living creature treats her with the respect that (s)he deserves and obeys her commandments. In fact it can be argued that the blue is far more devout in his endeavors to bend others’ to the will of His than he is in following the Goddess’ dictums himself. As with many such devout disciples, he has a tendency to be self-important and sanctimonious in his dealings with others – Goddess Cainith excepted, of course. The male does not at all approve of heretics hanging around His overly much and as such would greatly protest any further mindmates. (Not that it’s his decision anyway.)
To combat this world of heresy, he naturally must make converts. Is it really his fault that females are so much easier to convert than males? Of course not! (Nevermind that he hardly pays males any attention apart from judging them. They are not made to birth and therefore have no divine spark. He somehow forgets he’s not female, either.) Naturally this means that the blue has the most respect for clutching females. He can almost always be found around a gold of any type, from salamandyr to dragon, converting them to follow his Goddess and of course he chases them all! If one cannot give life oneself, the next best thing is to start life in one who can, right?

Blue Wher Cainsk
Epic Blue
Bonded to: Cainith
Name: Cainsk
DOB: December 3017
Age:: 5
