Name: Eselda
Age: 21
Turnday: 12 February
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Green Rider
Physical Appearance:
Eselda always stands out, even from a distance. She wears brightly colored clothes, drawing attention to herself. Upon closer inspection, she proves to have quite a pretty face. Her skin is a soft, smooth pale, with slight flushing around her cheeks. Her eyes are often a very dark blue color, but sometimes seem to change shade to become greyer or darker depending on her surroundings. , Her lips are a soft, red-tinted tan. Her shoulder length curls are elegant, a pretty black color.
Her clothes seem to contrast the softer colors of the world, but her skin, eyes, and hair seem to be in direct contrast with, well, each other. She isn’t tall, but she isnt short either. She is, however, incredibly slender, though puberty helped her fill out her once boney frame. However, whatever charm her appearance has it is usually offset because she has absolutly no idea how to carry herself. Half of the time she is slouched, shoulders hunched, and the other half she marches around stiff limbed, body rigid. Perhaps once she gets used to her newly gained height she'll figure out how to properly hold herself, but for now she'll just manage.
Personality:
Eselda always has something to say. Always Alwayas Always. She is doesn't meen to be quite so chatty, or persuasive for that matter, but she is quite oppinionated, and her opions just must be heard. . She doesn’t try to force her opinions on people, but more often than not, Elsda finds herself subconsciensly doing just that. Perhaps this is because Eselda usually doesn’t leave much room for conversation. She allows responses, but not before long, excited monologues. She thinks aloud, for the most part, informing others of her decision making process or her easily-formed opinions and biases.
She rarely dislikes anyone, always seeing the good in people. If a person is manipulative, they are “smart and persuasive.” If a person is mean, they are “misguided and lonely.” She seems not to have the ability at all to hate, or at least she hasn't discovered it yet. Rather, her strength lies in love. She loves meeting new people, being with people, knowing people, and doing exciting things. Of course, because she is a very excitable child, most anything she does she views as exciting
She is friendly and outgoing, a pro at creating feelings of comfort and amusement. She has a frequent laugh, which is light and joyful. She’s a dedicated adventurer, enjoying both exploration and discovery, in any form, and her adventures nature brings her to conflict from time to time. Eselda is incredibly determined, certainly to the point of stubborn. When she starts something, she will definitely finish it.
Kind hearted and easilly manipulatble seem to be two traits that go hand in hand, but Elsda defies the stereotypes. Yes, she is extremely kind, but not exactly empathetic. Yes, she does put thought and care about other's well being, but if something is amiss, she won't make any effort that is inconvinient for her, to help them. Her friends of course are an exeption to this, but she has trouble making them; her personality is rather offputting at first. Yes, she is outgoing and a friendly person, but sometimes she comes across as too friendly. But give her a chance and Eselda will be one of the best friends anybody could make. Extremely protective of those she loves and willing to go to the ends of the earth for them.
Speaking of things she loves, Eselda's life practically revolves around fire lizards. She believes they are the best thing in the world, and adores them, especially her own, which she showers with love. Their larger cousins, dragons, are also deserving of her adoration, but not as much, simply because she has fire lizards, but not a dragon. Fire lizards, unfortunately, have an even smaller cousin, which Eselda dislikes greatly. She finds salamandyrs loud, annoying, and even ugly. She cannot understand why someone might want such a rude, noisy creature. She rarely voices this, however, being (somewhat) polite and far from insulting.
History:
Its surprising that Eselda didn't grow up to beanother Casandra an egotistical snot considering she was spoiled to death by both of her parents. Eselda and her twin brother got anything and everything their heart desired. But perhaps the one thing that Eselda wanted her parents could not get her. This was the type of life she lived in Selenitas Hold for years, a quiet, peaceful, and easy one.
When she was nine she managed to impress two firelizards and they quickly consumed her life. Her love of the creaturs was so apparent that even her mother took notice, and began selling firelizard eggs to bennifit the family. Eselda became obsessed with them, but her love was not unriquited. The affection the little creatures showed her only made her love them more, and turned her thoughts towards their larger cousins, dragons. This was only natural of course, Selentitas Hold was in the shadow the weyr and most boys and girls dreamt of dragons at one point in their life. In her mind, dragons and their riders were the eptoimine of good. If she knew about what was really going in the weyr at the time, she might have reassesed, but at the time, Eselda was sheltered by her parents and grew up to believe that the world was a big happy place where everybody loved everybody.
Unfortunatly as she grew older, she learned this was not true. For years she convinced herself that the rumors she heard about the weyr could not possibly be true. Who would be so cruel as to poisen a river to kill riders? And these horrible Wastelanders she kept hearing about must be ficticious. No, these things must be made up, because there weren't mean people in the world. Just spiteful liers. Her parents were quick to confirms her suspicions, so she was able to convince herself that nothing was wrong.
So this is how it went for years. Eselda would hear horrible tales, and there were many, about things a the weyr, from cullings to killings and she would run to her parents to assure her it was not true. It could not be true. It is unfortunate that the girl is highly persuasive, because it allowed her to convince herself so thouroughly that she was right. Nothing could shake her convictions... until she met riders up close and personal
She had just turn thirteen when her happy go lucky life was destroyed. There was a gather scheduled at Selenitas Hold, so Eselda helped her mother set up a booth where they could sell firelizard eggs to those attending the festivities. What was to a cheerful gather turned out to give Eselda one of the worst realizations of her life. All was not right with the weyr. There were murmurings of an attempted heist of eggs as well as the bad blood between Benden Weyr and Selenitas. And because this news came from the mouths of dragon riders themselves, Eselda could not deny the truth in those statements. Eselda went into a downward spiral after she realized that everything that she had been discrediting for years was true.
From that point onward, Eselda listened to ever rumor and tale pertaining to the weyr, regarding each one as fact. The world was not the perfect place she had onece thought it was. When she was sixteen, dragons came to Selenitas on search, looking for candidates. With them, they brought news of the destruction of the weyr. So many dead and many more injured; Eselda might have once wished to write this off as a lie as well, but she had since turned more cynical in her thinking
When she was searched in the same trip, she went if only to see the 'lies' for herself. The transition to weyr life was not an easy one. With the move to Buryimu there was never a moment of relaxation. She stood for Millanth's hatching, but was unsuprised when she didn't impress. She did not yet feel like she belonged and had yet to reconcile how she previeved the world. Eselda was forced to get rid of her childish view of the world, and realized that pern was a ruthless, merciless place. When her firelizards got sick this only confirmed her belief. But nothing prepared her for when not one, but both of her pets died. That was the first true hardship that Eselda faced in her life, and she has still not completely gotten over the loss of her two best friends.
3018-3023
While the rest of Pern was ravaging with the ends of the Dragon War, Eselda and Nogoth were completing their weyrling training. They were far to young to be involved in the Northern Battles, so instead they threw themselves into their weyrling training, trying to become the best damn dragon and rider possible. Unfortunately this drive they had prevented them from making friends out of their classmates, but neither Nogoth nor Eselda cared, they had each other after all. The idea of excellence consumed them; nothing else mattered. Their daily routine and work ethic was not interrupted until Nogoth first rose to mate. Unfortunately Eselda had been a virgin going into the flight, and it was an ordeal that she has still not fully recovered from the experience. She has come to regard Nogoth's mating flights with fear, causing each flight to be worst than the last.
When the summit was called and the new weyr was created, Eselda and Nogoth found themselves left at Selenitas while many of their classmates were transferred to Inverness. Life continued as normal.
Dwarven Green
Bonded To: Eselda
Name: Nogoth
Color: Green (01a009), Markings (00c909)
Appearance: In contrast to many of her siblings, Nogoth is very thick. In fact, she'd be considered thick even for a workhorse brown, and it doesn't help that she's near the size of a small blue. There's nothing cute about her - her musculature is ropy, she has a wide barrel chest and an equally wide gut, her limbs are thick, her tail is club-like. Even her too-big head is a little odd, with an oversized forehead, pronounced eyeridges, and small eyes, which seem to always have a slight red tint no matter how relaxed and happy she is. She looks powerful in the way that an old Rider past his perfect-abs prime might look powerful; gone somewhat to seed, but still insanely strong. She's the kind of dragon that looks like she could take your head off with the swipe of a paw. Perhaps the only mitigating factor is her apparent lack of claws and teeth - they're there, but they are much more green-appropriate, and seem almost lost against her otherwise hulking form.
Her wings are equally squat and wide, and the membranes are as thick as the rest of her skin, which will be hard for anyone to rip through. Given her heft, she'll have a hard time getting off the ground in Weyrling training; likely, she will be the very last member of her class able to get into the air. Once she does, though, she'll be a sight to see. Her natural endurance is extraordinary, and she has a sort of bull-rush flight style that should intimidate anyone. She is extremely fast over short distances, although if she tries to keep that sort of thing up her speed will quickly drop off. Agility will take work, and she will likely always prefer a more straightforward style of flight, even if she does eventually get her fancy tricks up to snuff. Nogoth, however, will always be one of the steadiest fliers - if Hers is at all prone to gymnastics, they should be able to pull off even the trickiest of moves on Nogoth's broad back.
Honestly, though, Nogoth's bursts of speed and insane stability are probably her best attributes. Her body is odd, and her color does nothing to help. It is the most obvious of greens, a standard sort of bright grass or something akin to ichor, the color every other green's hide is a shade of. She doesn't even have the advantage of the pretty markings some of her siblings sport. The shade is unbroken, not mottled or variegated at all, it just is. The only exception is the tip of her nose and the tip of her tail, which both lighten almost imperceptibly. The delicate bones of her wings are highlighted too, ever so slightly, and a total of seven bright green ring-markings encircle various fingers and toes, leaving only her left forepaw bare.
Personality: Nogoth can seem gruff and grumpy, but it's the same sort of gruff grumpiness your favorite grandfather might have. She's hardly ever actually annoyed or irritable, she just sees no need to bother with pleasantries when simple statements will do just as well. Under it all is an amazingly good heart; Nogoth's ability to love and accept people and creatures of every type seems practically boundless. It's not really possible to get on her bad side, because she doesn't seem to have a bad side to get on. While the Green will never be a social butterfly, those that approach her and manage to get through her rough exterior will be richly rewarded. She's a true friend, the sort that will put herself in harm's way for you without thinking about it, and will ask nothing in return. Literally nothing - there are only three people in the world Nogoth would ever think to impose on: her rider, Eldath, and Eldath's bonded.
Even through her gruffness, though, it is clear that Nogoth is a sharp, witty, and sensible dragon. Yes, she might be short with a wingmate or sibling (or mate) if they are doing something stupid or goofing off when they should be working, but she'll follow that up with a joke to lighten the mood or by doing everything in her power to fix any problem they might be having. She is highly aware of her own limits, but is always looking to improve herself and those around her in whatever way she can. She's an incredibly active dragon, but she is also excellent at enjoying whatever she's doing for it's own sake: if she's sunning and relaxing, she's actively wringing every possible second of enjoyment out of it rather that just passively being. Eating, sleeping, training, fighting; she throws herself at anything and everything with a sort of enviable passion few can match. Nogoth never does anything 'just because', nor is she ever really confused - no time to dither, she'd rather make a split-second educated decision and revise later if she turned out to be wrong.
She and Eldath will always be extremely close, from hatching until death. Why is anyone's guess - Eldath's fluff-brained idiocy seems like the exact opposite of sensible, clever Nogoth, and the two are endlessly competitive and will make it a point to out-do each other whenever possible. Still, the fact remains that she tolerates a level of idiocy from him that she tolerates from no one else. The fact that Nogoth is half in love with him and that he will likely never see it could be the reason, but generally the Green seems too smart for that. She's usually too shy to pick him more than half the time when she rises, though, generally opting for whatever dragon is least like him - the rude ones, the uninterested, the violent. Those with disengaged or too-engaged riders are also a great target. Better yet, the first time Hers has alcohol, Nogoth will discover that she absolutely adores the sensation of being drunk, so Hers should expect to drink heavily leading up to Flight (and, honestly, whenever Nogoth can influence Hers to do so. It's sooooo much fun!) so best of luck with that one. Remember, Nogoth seems to do everything with a bit too much enthusiasm.
