This had definitely been the longest sevenday of her life. Kaidie sat in the Dining Hall, with a mug of klah before her and a hide on the table. She was writing a letter to her father. He wanted her to send him a letter ever fortnight, but she didn't even know where to begin. This sevenday had given her such culture shock that she felt as though she were living in another world. Which it pretty much was, Kaidie thought grimly. In this sevenday alone, she had seen parentless children running wild without supervision, heard whisperings of premarital sex and even (she shuddered as she remembered the vivid image in her head) a gay couple in a tight embrace. Yes, she certainly would leave those sorts of details out of this letter! She needn't worry her father. Kaidie was smart enough to stay out of that crude business anyway. Besides, her father would probably dive into a rage and come straight down to Selenitas to rescue Kaidie, and probably send her back home and replace her with one of her brothers to do this work. And shells, she couldn't let that happen. Though she knew she was to be married one day, she couldn't let him ruin her one chance to see the world-- as foul as some of it might be.
Instead, Kaidie outlined the beginning of her quest to buy property for her father. She had begun to ask around (that is, if by asking around meant timidly asking a couple strong-looking men where one might be able to do this whole property-thing), but she'd had no luck so far. Looking for property was harder than Kaidie had anticipated. Now she had begun to see why her father had given her a whole turn to look.
She took a long sip of her klah. It was very much sweetened. She wasn't able to handle the cinnamony taste alone. She sighed. She wasn't even sure if she liked it at the Weyr. Everyone was so different, and she was absolutely terrified of the dragons (and those tiny frilled beastlings, too!), and she hadn't made a single friend. Maybe it was just meant to be that she shouldn't be here. Maybe her father would just let her come home, and maybe he could send one of her brothers in her place. The hope of getting a fire lizard was nothing compared to being home with her friends. Perhaps her future husband would let her have a fire lizard... right? She was sick of being lonely.
