This was her rock. No one better take it. That was all that she could think about as she curled up on the warm surface. She was not tired, simply possessive. A moment of irrationality had brought her to the rock, she didn't want anyone to take it while she was gone. Content that her territory was being defended, she opened her whirling eyes to peer about. She was proddy, but she knew she was proddy. When she had awaken this morning, Hers had kindly informed her that she was proddy.
It wasn't like it was affecting her though. She was still the same Tiaeth. If Hers had heard that thought, she would have laughed. She never believed it when Tiaeth insisted that the glow on her hide didn't affect her behaviors. Snorting rather disgustedly at the idea, she reached out for Hers. She found her in the Dining Hall actually socializing. Overjoyed, Tiaeth sent happy feelings towards her rider for a moment. Hers needed to get out more often. She only received back a mental laugh from Hers, but she was content. It was the first time that Liassalove had talked to another rider in ages outside of Wing Drills.
Her happiness spiking, she was in a great mood. Well, as long as no one tried to take her rock.

Emerith glided down to the river, and straight into the water with a splash. The muscular green rolled around a few times and looked around, normally the riverbanks tended to have as many dragons as rocks scattered around, however, Emerith quailed a little at the sight, the only other dragon she could see was Tiaeth and the other green was glowing. Emerith remembered her recent troubles with Rinagth well enough that she didn’t want to be near another proddy green. However O’dan was trying to train the Troublemaker again and Emerith wasn’t getting involved in that again either! Oh well, Tiaeth was certainly not Rinagth…
Hello Tiaeth. Emerith tried a cautious greeting from the perceived safety of the water. I hope you and yours are well. She ventured further conversation so Tiaeth wouldn’t know how cautious Emerith really was but didn't move any closer.

Sometimes it was wiser to retreat.
Corinth deemed this time one of those times. After being snapped at, and having a tunic thrown at him, the bronze had given up trying to reason with the bronzerider that he called His. It was too frustrating, and it didn't help that said bronzerider was being incredibly moody of late. Not knowing had his nerves grated raw. The poison. The poisoner. The identities of both were as of yet unknown, and the short-tempered responses that basically everybody who disturbed him received were probably making T'rid a legend in his own right: The most irritable Weyrleader in Selenitas. Lovely. Just what Corinth wanted His to be remembered by, though he...really couldn't protest it. Even he found His unbearable company, and therefore had decided to find some better company -- or at least, some solitude.
Except that he didn't want to just spring on a random passerby and start chattering. That would be...extremely undignified. Therefore, the bronze had taken to the river, wallowing in the cool water -- thank Faranth for rain! A splash around the next corner, though, caught Corinth's attention, and the bronze dragon half-swam, half-waded towards Emerith and Tiaeth. As he rounded the bend, he noted in slight surprise the conspicious lack of other dragons, and the fact that Tiaeth was glowing. Close to Rising, then? And Emerith...neither green was Corinth particularly familiar with, but surely they'd make for better company than would T'ridHis.
I love you too. Oh, don't be so sarcastic, T'ridmine.
The reply was a sour mental snort, and, that done, Corinth crooned a greeting to both greens, dipping his head towards first Tiaeth, and then Emerith. Hello, Tiaeth; Emerith. I hope you won't mind if I join you? Mine is being sour and I'm sick of his complaining. He's being ridiculous. Corinth slid into a lying-down position in the river, his head still above the water, his back submerged and his tailtip, twitching underwater, sending ripples spreading as he snorted in soft amusement at T'ridHis' sardonic comment. Even now, he's still complaining, the dragon remarked casually.
Clearly some dragons had no problems discussing their Rider's (many) faults.

Ebolath trotted down the river bank and stopped dead when she saw the greens and Corinth. She crooned a hesitant hello and approached the trio. Hello. I am Ebolath. Who are you? She said brightly eyeing the older greens with polite interest. Eyeing Corinth, Ebolath gave a happy croon. Hello Corinth. Mine is getting her ankle rewrapped again. She wants to know if yours has cleaned his weyr yet. Mine is loathe to visit until their is no danger of tripping. I am not sure I could fit on the stairs to visit anymore. Perhaps you and Stupid can visit me sometime instead? But then mine can’t visit yours.
The green sat and contemplated the dilemma. If she was annoying the other greens she, for now, took no notice. After all she was still a hatchling and knew next to nothing of flights or proddyness. Had she been wise to such things she would have never dreamed of approaching Corinth with such familiarity, for fear of setting the other green off.

Company! That was great, Tiaeth mused as a green approached. She didn't know Emerith very well, but her cautious approach clearly meant that she was of no threat to her rock. Rustling her wings, her eyes whirled a peaceful purple. Fair skies Emerith, she greeted kindly, We are well. How are you and yours? The simplicity of the conversation appealed to her as she resettled her wings. The other green had done nothing to draw offense so she was comfortable settling back down on her rock.
The approach of another dragon drew her attention quickly. It was becoming obvious that this was not going to be a quiet spot. Tiaeth was more than okay with socialization as long as no one got too close to her rock. It was hers! Hello Corinth, she answered his inquiry simply. She knew what he meant about a bonded getting irritable. There were times, though she doesn't remember them well, where she had to tread carefully around Hers. However, her bonded was much better now. I'm sure Yours will be better company soon. Bondeds don't seem to hold their anger for too long, Of course she wasn't entirely sure about that, she couldn't remember how long Hers was irritable.
When another voice joined the conversation, Tiaeth crooned gently. It was one of the hatchlings! Welcome little one, she greeted happily. She had always liked new hatchlings, ignoring the fact that she was barely graduated herself. I'm Tiaeth. Please, do join us, she added, twitching her tail slightly to draw the hatchling closer. This one could get close to her rock; she wasn't big enough to steal it. For the same reason, her familiarity with Corinth was also a passable insult. She was just a baby.

Emerith relaxed more visibly than she would have liked to think, assured that Tiaeth was going to be civil. Oh my O’dan is fine, at the moment, and So am I. Emerith answered truthfully, O’dan was fine now but after a while of dealing with Troublemaker he’d have a headache to say the least. Emboldened by Tiaeth’s relaxed stance Emerith swam a little closer to the bank, though she still didn’t feel like leaving the water, however before a new topic suggested itself another dragon appeared. Clearly this place wasn’t as quiet as she had assumed.
Ah Corinth! Emerith didn’t know the bronze well personally but had heard well of him, and most of her attention was focused on thinking that the bronze was big enough to protect her if Tiaeth should change her mind. Good day Corinth. Tiaeth is right, I’m sure your rider will calm down soon. Humans do. Maybe you could get him to think about what’s upsetting him? I do that with O’dan. Emerith suggested, she didn’t like her bonded to be unhappy so she did her best to get him happy again quickly, maybe Corinth could do that for His too…
A hesitant croon drew Emerith’s attention next, the source being a younger green. Ebolath. Hello Ebolath. I’m Emerith. Emerith introduced herself cheerfully to the young dragon before Ebolath lost interest in her and Tiaeth in favour of chattering to Corinth.

It was nice of the two greens, to assure him about His' temper and to tell him it would get better, and even to advise, but Theirs was not His. And Theirs probably weren't nearly as ill-tempered in general as T'ridHis was. He didn't envy them for it, Corinth didn't -- he accepted it, and in any case, despite the frequent squabbles and frustrations, he did like T'ridHis. Really, he did. (Fortunate it was that nobody eavesdropped on their conversations, or they would have accused the bond between dragon and Rider to be deficit.) What makes him unhappy has not stopped, and therefore I don't think he will stop being unhappy, the bronze answered quietly, Until the poisoners have been caught, and the deaths have stopped. But never mind; he's often a bit sour-tempered and it's too nice a day to waste lingering over Mine.
His eyes were not quite the happy blue, but it was positively cheerful, absent of the now-usual streaks of frustrated orange and yellow. (T'ridHis used him as a sounding board for any ideas, and such ideas were woefully inadequate.) It was nice here. The bronze liked this, the cool water lapping at his sides, the friendly company -- he didn't remember Tiaeth for the sleepy small dragon so long ago, and T'ridHis wouldn't remember her either; it was just too long ago, even if Corinth had approved of His that day, something that happened all too rarely.
The bronze's attention turned to the small green form making her way up the riverbank, and as he recognized Ebolath, Corinth crooned in greeting, eyes whirling affectionately. He liked Ebolath, he did -- not as obsessively as Stupid, but as a friend nonetheless, and the affection was only heightened by the fact that Hers was one of the few people (which included Tiaeth's, but he didn't remember that) that T'ridHis didn't mind the company of. Hello, Ebolath, he responded to her greeting, I'm sorry -- I don't believe Mine has. His office, though, is clean enough, and people can visit him there should they have need of him. The bronze's offer was quiet, but he purposely included both Emerith and Tiaeth in the exchange; he needn't make them feel left out.
And, as a familiar voice broke into his mind, Stupid apologizes to all of you -- Tiaeth, Emerith, and Ebolath -- for not being present. Trust the Salamandyr to pick up on Corinth's conversation when -- and only when -- the bronze spoke to a green.

Ebolath’s eyes whirled happily at the warm welcomes coming from all three larger dragons. She liked being liked. The comment about Stupid drew a croon from the small green. Tell the little one that it is ok. He does not need to apologize. Ebolath trotted closer to Tiaeth and stared up at her glowing form. You are very pretty. How did you get all glowy? There was obvious curiosity in her tone. Jaymith glows but he is not as pretty as you are. Thoughts of her clutchbrother drew painful memories and so she promptly pushed him from her mind.
Her attention turned to the water and she teetered on the bank to look at the swimming dragons. Eyeing Emerith she crooned. Hello Emerith. She purred politely. I do not think I have ever met you or yours. Is yours very far away? Mine is in the infirmary she is getting her foot looked at again. Giving a yawn she flopped down on the bank watching the older dragons curiously.

Tiaeth kept her calm as Emerith meandered closer. She noticed it, but the other dragons here were distracting enough to keep her from getting angry. She was chatty when she was proddy and there were now plenty of people to talk with. Plus, it helped that she agreed with her. Humans all calmed down. Dragons did too... well, she was pretty sure that they did. Tell him you'll eat what is making him angry, Tiaeth suggested rather unreasonably. She didn't even notice that her suggestion wasn't one to be taken into consideration. She always suggested that to Hers, but Hers never let her actually eat it. Maybe His would. She didn't dwell on that thought for too long; suggesting she'd eat the problem always made her bonded a little happier. She always laughed at that thought.
She didn't stay on the thought of the poisonings very long. She connected the fact that what was upsetting Corinth's was also what was forcing Hers out of her chosen haven. Tiaeth wasn't happy that people were betweening, especially not her queen, but she didn't want to think about that. She chose to remember the fact that it had drawn Hers from her hideout.
A measure of jealousy rose, though, at the croon that Ebolath earned. Tiaeth was sure that she was the beautiful one here, not the young baby sitting by her side. No, the croon should have been for her. Her eyes shifted to a lighter green, whirling slightly faster. She ignored the invitation and the quieter murmurs to the young green. Swishing her tail rather viciously, she kept her anger in check. If Ebolath had been any older of a dragon, there would be trouble. She mustered enough calm to reply to the cousin's greeting. Give the little cousin my greetings, she replied, her voice even though a hint of her anger carried through. She was not happy, but she wouldn't pounce.
Craning her head, she turned to look at the little green that was usurping the bronze's attentions. Her happy whirling eyes showed only warm appreciation for the company and none of it seemed specific to the bronze. That gave her a bit of her calm back. She was not angry with the little one; she couldn't possibly know better. It was the big bronze who was going to incur her disfavor. When the weyrling dragon moved closer, she didn't snap. Tiaeth simply stilled her tail, rather surprised at the comment that followed.
But she shouldn't have been surprised; of course she was beautiful and shining. I'm going to take to the skies soon. All will Chase and I will Fly, she answered simply. All dragons understood what the glow meant; she couldn't remember not knowing what it was. The compliment, however, appeased her greatly and she settled more comfortably on her rock. She liked Ebolath though she was still rather irritated with Corinth. Even the young hatchling recognized her beauty, but a mature bronze didn't. That was an insult that wouldn't be very readily forgiven.

Emerith made a sad little sound in response to Corinth’s talk of the poisonings, although no one she and O’dan closely knew had been affected too badly it was still an upsetting thing, especially since neither of them could do anything about it. The green huffed a sigh and dropped her head to rest on the water’s surface. The comment about Stupid startled an amused rumble out of her; the Troublemaker would never send such greetings. I don’t believe I have ever met that ‘mandyr but tell him I said hello anyway. I’m sure he’s nice. Privately Emerith was not all that sure but everyone had to tell little lies to stay polite.
Emerith serenely drifted about in the water, moving her legs under the surface to glide along, and seemingly coincidently put Corinth between her and Tiaeth when the more dainty green’s tail lashed about in some irritation. No, Emerith was not going to forget that proddy greens got irritable for a long time, maybe as long as a sevenday.
Resolutely she turned her attention to Ebolath and studied the little dragon minutely. I don’t think we have met before, or I have forgotten if we did. Emerith replied with some thought. O’dan is in our Weyr, it’s not that far to me but I expect it’s longer for him. He can’t fly and the corridors are very long. Or so he tells me, he may be lying. She saw no harm in answering the younger dragon’s questions, Ebolath was young and curious, no more than that, and equally, no less.

Stupid was extremely pleased by the responses from all three greens, and though Corinth's thoughts were tolerant amusement rather than adoration (as he rather fancied that the greens must have sounded like!), it still made the brown 'mandyr croon mentally in delight. He didn't notice the new caution in Corinth as the bronze shifted slightly, noting the angry lash to Tiaeth's tail. Had he upset her? He must have; the bronze knew that proddy greens could be horribly moody, and hadn't meant to irritate her. And, looking back, he wasn't quite -- not yet -- certain that he knew exactly what he'd done. Had it been because of his greeting to Ebolath? Possibility, a distinct possibility, and yet the bronze found himself slightly irritated, too, that even proddy, Tiaeth would be jealous of Ebolath.
She was only a Hatchling. Only a hatchling, albeit one he was fond of. A hatchling from his clutch -- and yes, Corinth still remembered that; it was with no little pride that he looked upon the Christmas Weyrlings (with the possible exception of Kyssith; the blue was almost frighteningly violent) -- and one, therefore, in his eyes, that he very much ought to be kind to. Overly kind? She had earned it. Simple as that. Ebolath was sweet, gave him presents, and in response he was kind to her; exceptionally so because Hers actually got along with His, which was a first -- to him. He'd forgotten that Tiaeth's had gotten along well with His too.
There was no expression to Corinth's twinge of annoyance, merely a slight flicker in his eyes, that could easily have been taken for anxiety or uncertainty. The bronze tilted his head, eyeing Emerith in some surprise as the green placed him between herself and Tiaeth, but...he didn't quite blame her. He still had the dignity not to hide, the -- determination? Tenacity? -- but nonetheless, bearing the brunt of a proddy green's temper was not a pleasing thought, and his quiet croon was meant to reassure Emerith as much as it was to appease Tiaeth, though his eyes were fixed steadily upon Tiaeth. They were impassive, the same whirling shade that they had been in the very beginning: blue-green.
At least Tiaeth was still kind to Ebolath, he noted mildly, appraising first Tiaeth, and then Ebolath again. The bronze was quite sure that Ebolath still had no knowledge of Flight: Of how he had gained Weyrleadership, of what, exactly, a Flight was and what the result was. Surely not. She was so young, still, and Hers, having had no sexual experiences that Corinth was aware of, would not have told her, and neither would the green have found memories of the kind when looking through Hers' mind. Tiaeth's response was a simple one, and one that would not -- would not taint or astonish Ebolath, but perhaps that was merely Corinth's point of view. The bronze dragon's glance flickered to the sky, and then to Emerith.
Politely, though his tones weren't quite warm, he commented, This will be your first Flight, yes? I suppose you've many a suitor already.
((I'm sorry it's kinda sucky. x.o; At least it's up.))

Everyone will be chasing you? Ebolath sounded a bit confused by the thought. Won’t you get tired. I sounds like it would be a fun game though. The small green dropped the subject as Emerith answered. Ah I have been to the weyrs before. Yours is right there are many, many hallways and the stairs are very tiring. She nodded empathetically. I do not think yours is lying to you. Yours is O’dan? Mine is Raylin. Nevermind she probably wouldn't remember Emerith's rider name past today nor Emerith her rider's name. Right now it was all polite conversation.
Ebolath clambered down the bank and slid into the water. She paddled over to the two swimming dragons and spread her wings out to help herself float. The green let the current carry her until she was on the other side of Emerith. It painted quite an interesting picture to any who happened to pass by. The large bronze followed by a green and a smaller green all ranged in some bizarre line.
Ebolath sunk her head into the water to watch the shiny fish glittering beneath the surface. Pulling her head up she spoke to Emerith. Do you ever chase the fishes? Mine says they are good to eat but they look so very small.

Tiaeth didn't notice as Emerith placed Corinth in front. She didn't care. She was focused on the little one next to her. She had decided against being angry with her. After all, she didn't even know what a Flight was. How could she be angry at the little hatchling? Her body visibly relaxed and her eyes moved back to a light blue, whirling softly. She didn't notice Corinth's irritation. He wasn't allowed to be irritated in her mind. She was the proddy one, not him. If she had noticed, she probably wouldn't have been very happy with the larger dragon.
Curling her tail up beside her, she answered Corinth's question. Yes, it will be my first Flight. She hesitated before answering the second question. Hers was always so reclusive lately and she hadn't really been out much. She talked to other dragons sometimes, but it wasn't regular. This was the first time she'd been in the company of dragons since she'd been glowing. She didn't know how to say that. She didn't know how to say that she wasn't sure if she had any suitors. And I don't know, she continued, her youth finally showing through, her confidence ebbing away slightly. Her tail curled more tightly, almost protectively around her. She didn't like admitting that.
Ebolath's question was a kind distraction, though, allowing her to answer questions that she knew how to answer. I will get tired, but they will get tired first. The one who doesn't get as tired wins, she explained a bit further. Tiaeth decided that it was a fun game and that it was going to be hard for anyone to win it when she was the one in the lead. She swam all the time and she liked to fly. She was quick and nimble, even if her endurance wasn't the best. In her mind, she was going to be the shining jewel in the skies and everyone would be struggling to keep up with her. Everyone but the one who would win her in the end.
((Ugh, crappy, sorry))

Emerith caught the movement of Corinth’s head toward her and met his gaze with totally impassive eyes and a blank mind. The bronze was large, handsome, male, and therefore far more likely to appease Tiaeth’s temper than another mature green. The other green did seem to be calming a little as she explained Flight to Ebolath in a simple way, maybe she realised that the little one was too young to have any interest beyond friendship in Corinth. Had there ever been a time when mating was so great a mystery to Emerith? She couldn’t remember.
Tiaeth didn’t know if she had any dragons willing to chase her? Oh that was sad. I’m sure many dragons will want to chase you Tiaeth. You already look wonderful, only think how good you will look when you are ready to Fly. Emerith said with enthusiasm, if she was close to her first Flight it wasn’t close enough to make her jealous. And you fly well too. She added in case a compliment on her looks wasn’t enough for Tiaeth.
Distracted by Ebolath’s further conversation Emerith’s attention slid away from Corinth and Tiaeth’s uncertain temper. She rumbled softly. Well, he does tell me untrue things sometimes. She answered, accepting the younger dragon’s word. He told me many times that it would nice to have a pet. Troublemaker is not nice. Emerith remembered that well since O’dan said that an awful lot before he Impressed Troublemaker.
I never thought of chasing the fish. Emerith stuck her head down underwater like Ebolath and looked at the glittering fish, odd how she’d never paid attention to them before the question. It would take a lot of them to fill me up when I’m hungry. Are there bigger fish? Emerith was quite intrigued by the idea of eating the fish now.

At least the green dragon didn't seem overly, openly annoyed with him as she answered his question -- that was a point in Tiaeth's favor. Corinth's tail twitched lightly as he dropped himself into the river, all but flattening himself against the bottom, trying to soak up the warmth, the soothing wetness against his hide. T'ridHis so hated the water, and didn't like having to join Corinth in the water to bathe him. Often Corinth dumped T'rid into the water -- generally headfirst, just for the amusement of it -- in order to get him to bathe him, or swim with him. More often, though, the bronze bathed himself. He liked the water, even if His didn't -- T'rid insisted this was because it took him such a short time to get dry again, while he had to go around dripping for a while. As it was, his head was nearly entirely underwater, the first set of lids closing over rapidly whirling jewel-faceted eyes, head and knobs sticking out of the water.
But, ah. Her first Flight, was it? The bronze crooned softly, more sympathy entering his tone at the clear uncertainty in Tiaeth's tones. Knowing better than to point out the lack of confidence in Tiaeth's voice, Corinth settled for regarding her kindly, and then, as Emerith hastened to soothe the green as well, telling her that she was gorgeous and that she would fly well, he stated quietly, I'm sure you'll have plenty of Chasers. And if they do not Chase, it is they, not you, who miss out, yes? He was being hypocritical, he knew: Corinth didn't plan on Flying after Tiaeth, or, for that matter, any other female unless they really, truly caught his attention -- Catching Aslath had, first, made him stop Chasing as often as he may have liked, and then, her demise had him wary, unwilling to loose control like that for any length of time. But now was not a time for truth and honesty: Now the bronze's goal was to soothe Tiaeth, to make sure she was confident, was ready to Fly.
He settled quietly in the river, exhaling slowly through his nostrils before he came back up for air, as Tiaeth explained to Ebolath what a Flight was. Turning over in the water, Corinth added explanatorily, You have played tag, with your clutchmates? It's like that. Sky-tag. Tiaeth will lead, and the others will follow. It's how, he added, The Weyrleader and Junior Weyrleader is chosen. It wasn't an altogether stable way of picking said leader, especially since Aslath had shown no bias whatsoever towards any of the bronzes -- first Salenth, then Ciceroth, and then he? -- but it was traditional. You'll learn about it more, when you're older, in Weyrling Lessons, Corinth finished with a slight nod, his eyes gleaming affectionately at the small green. Innocence -- she was so naive, so innocent. It amused him.
Ebolath and Emerith talking about the fish, though, didn't include him. True, there was no purposeful exclusion, but the bronze was content to relax in the river, hide gleaming brilliantly, water droplets and the typical metallic glow catching the sun's rays as he stretched slightly, yawning as he settled his chin along his forelegs throughtfully, the water of the river coming up to his jawline. The great, pearlescent eyes were focused on Emerith and Ebolath, watching the two young greens poke their heads underwater, examining the fish that darted to and fro in the water, their scales and fins gleaming like silver.
