If he was sober he would be squirming and so so embarrassed. Luckily for everyone involved he wasn't, so instead he just got to scowl at the girl. How exactly did she know that he was from Benden? And why should he care about D'mian? He was Mi'rah...duh...they had gone over this already. He had hoped that she would have given him a fair chance by his name alone, "How do you know I'm from Benden exactly? And what does D'mian have to do with any of this...he was a dimglow braggart..." Oh so frustrating it was for him to be compared to the troop of idiots that populated his old weyr. He wasn't them, he had brains....
"Well Im NOT a Denden...Benden rider anymore so it doesn't matter does it?" Not that he would ever deny his past or disavow his past allegiance. He had done too many awful things in the name of the weyr to take it all back now. Oh hey subject change! "This is a Doppelganger!" Of course he was spouting out the creatures name and not it's species, "They are a very fascinating draconoid species..." he added in a scientific manner. See? He was perfectly fine drunk..."Are we going to dance or not?" Can't say much for his memory in this state though.

Meagen glared as she crossed her arms over her chest now. He wasn't doing very well at calming down her nerves. He was drunk she was upset, this probably wouldn't turn out very well at all. She wrapped her arms around her chest tighter, her nails digging into her arm as she glared at him. "How do I know? I was a Candidate there, I made it my duty to learn the names and appearances of the Bronze Riders, since people seemed to think that the only thing I would impress was gold." She said in a dry voice. "I had to know my enemies." She stated simply.
"Ok so you aren't a Benden Rider anymore, still doesn't change matters." She stated cooly as she looked at the critter. She sighed as he introduced it as Doppelganger. "Interesting little name it has." she said in a strained voice. She turned her head as someone passed by with a tray of cups, she looked at the cups mournfully. The male gave her a cheeky grin, and passed her a cup, surprising the girl. Maybe she was pretty? If some server boy had just given her a glass for free?
Or was that commonplace at gathers? She wasn't quite sure. "Look, I just don't dance much." She said mournfully. "Dancing leads to nothing but trouble."

He waved off her excuses as he took another long drink, "I wasn't a threat...." he said in an equally simple way. He wasn't allowed in gold flights, C'leon didn't want his favorite brain to get too full of himself, he was more or less grounded and kept at a desk where he could draw battleplans all day long. He could leave of course...to go prey on lame little riders and make them into dragonless slaves...those were his tasks. He was a planner and conspirator, but hardly one to worry about gaining power. It was the greenriders that Mi'rah knew...
But back to the salamandyr because well...Doppel was cute and didn't remind him of icky things and really this was all ruining his buzz. How dare she ruin his happy, content, drunkenhood with all of this talk of Benden, "Doppel has a twin. It is the cutest thing..." Doppel agreed. He LOVED his twin so much, and he wished that the other brown was there, LOVE Eggmine! Mimic is lovvvvve~
"Mimic...Mimic is his twin!" The brown nodded along and then bounced over to the candidate to nuzzle up close to her. Closeness was good, why wouldn't she come close to Rahrahlove? Well apparently it had something to do with dancing...because it led to trouble? Why no dance love? Pretty pretty dance? The drunken bronzerider couldn't help but agree with that notion! Why no dance? He boldly stepped forward...he was a tad grabby, and he saw absolutely nothing wrong with this. It was a gather after all! Rules of etiquette didn't apply here, he tried to reach for a hand, "dancing is no trouble with me I promise. I PROMISE!"

As M'kai forced his way through the crowd, he heard shouting coming from where he'd left Meagen behind. It wasn't her; it couldn't be her. Right?
But then it was her voice he heard, angry. M'kai froze, images pouring through his mind. Meagen, crumpled in his arms. D'mian, sneering at her absence for the next few weeks. Crystoph, knives out, eyes blazing. Nothing could be that bad, but you couldn't trust people at gathers, not with so much wine around. Meagen could take care of herself, of course, but M'kai would never forgive himself if he didn't at least go back to check. So he pushed through the crowd, moving around so he would be behind Meagen when she came in sight again.
The man confronting her was vaguely familiar- someone from Benden, probably. M'kai thought he recognized the man as someone he might have reported to, had he Impressed at Benden and actually begun negotiating and spying on Benden's behalf. No name, though. Oh well- Meagen seemed to be holding her own, well enough. She even had a glass of something now. A tiny flare of jealousy sparked in his stomach and was stifled. He pulled back against a tent pole, leaning in the shadows and watching Megs between dancing couples.
((Feel free to go on without me, M'kai may or may not jump back in))

"Any male that wasn't Mik or Cry, was a threat." She stated simply as she looked at the mandyr. Her attention captivated by the small critter. Inside she was doing her best not to break down. Outside she was holding together pretty well. She just hoped that D'mian never came here, then her whole life would just shatter. Especially if she did impress, she'd never escape him then. Unless she got a male dragon, but that was rather rare for girls. But then she...
No she must not think of Mik anymore, he was beyond her. She laughed softly and weakly as she looked at the mandyr, then at the rider. "Look, he's cute and all, but he can't change my mind at what I will and won't do." She said in a mournful tone. Her eyes turning away as the pain was evident in her eyes. She looked at the mandyr and sighed as it asked her so many questions.
She sipped her drink, and then the rider tried to grab her hand. She twisted suddenly, in one of the evasive moods that Mik and Cry had taught her, her body suddenly taunt and on the alert. She had seen some girls fallen to such acts before. Some drunk rider being all sweet with them, but drunk meant stronger... meant they didn't really know the meaning of the word no.
"Look, I've danced with a rider tonight. He took off and left me in the middle of the dance floor in pieces. Last time I danced with a bronzer he destroyed my life for several weeks. All I want is some peace. If you want to talk fine, but I don't dance... Not anymore. That was my last dance... " She said in a shaking voice. Oh shards she was going to start crying again. This drink was effecting her! It was all it's fault!

None of this was processing. He just didn't understand why girls had to be so...so weird all the time. He found himself scoffing at her, as she threw names at him he really didn't know - Mik or Cry, who in the heck was that - and just furrowing his brow deeper and deeper until he swore he was adding lines on his forehead he never had before. People were the one puzzle he could never solve, and they frustrated him to no end. Besides what was she saying now? She couldn't change her mind at what I will and won't do? It...seemed like such a fallacy to him. Of course she could change her mind, thats what made them human, he found himself rubbing the confusion off of his face. This does not compute.
"WHAT? If you can't change your mind about anything then..." he was at a loss for words, everytime he thought he could pull himself back together, the wine tore him right apart again. He was beginning to look and feel like a very distraught wherry whose feathers had been ruffled the wrong way. Doppelganger looked at His with concern, and deciding that this pretty pretty was not good news for Mi'rah, took a single leap back over to perch again on the bronzerider's shoulder. All the while crooning. No worry Rahrahmine. Doppel lovies!
He finally threw his hands up in the air as she brought up that stupid bronzerider again. He just wasn't going to get anywhere with this was he? The conceding motion sloshed around his wine dangerously in his cup, though the splash of burgundy that dared to escape remarkably fell back in with the rest of the liquid. He was still succeeding at very least in keeping his drink together. A goo deal of men would have managed to spill the stuff all over themselves...and many more Benden men would have dumped the wine all over the girl for her stubbornness.
"Well its NO WONDER to ME that he ran off on YOU!" he replied in a short of erratic nature, not really knowing how to control the volume on his voice. Yelling wasn't normal for him, to have his self imposed attenuator turned off left his levels all out of whack. He stared down the girl, he should waste his time even talking, he was sure that someone out there didn't care where he was fro or that he was a bronzerider...or maybe there was at least a girl just as drunk as him to dance with. What he didn't expect was to see signs of her....about to cry. Oh no. He definitely didn't know how to handle this one. Crying? Ugh. It made him sick to is stomach. He had seen too much crying in his life.
"If you don't want to dance thats fine...I don't....I just wanted to have fun."

Megs had kept her cool thus far, she hadn't snapped majorly. She hadn't returned to her near sobbing nature. Now, with this hulk of a drunk man leering down at her and yelling, she just snapped. But not to sobbing like some girls would, anger and sorrow just didn't mix too well. "Shut your mouth!" She snapped as she threw out her hand. Tears trekking down her face now.
"I just don't want to dance, it has nothing to do with how you look. But shards, if I would be in a dancing mood... I wouldn't dance with you now anyways! You raise your voice to a female of all people. Who just had her heart broken. Alright?" She snapped as she shook now. Anger making a flush of cherry fall across her cheeks. The drink was making her inhibitions go away. She was just hurting so much.
She had been left behind twice. "I'm ashamed of myself, because the man I love... thought I wanted to do something that would risk the creature that loves him most in this world. All I wanted was to be recognized as a woman, not as a little sister... not as as... shards..." She had broken, it had been years since she had been in such a state. She collapsed unto the nearest bench and just pressed her face into her palms.
"I'm sorry... I'm sorry... you just wanted to have fun... and I was so horrible..."

Mi'rah was not well equipped for this situation. In the wise words of his dearest friends, You do not get touchy feely with a woman unless you are prepared to take the brunt of her insanity for the rest of your life. In other words, the bronzerider was very good at fleeing from emotional situations - he didn't know how to deal with women until he learned how to run and run fast (and his proficiency at this was debatable). No he found himself doing lot of staring and standing and nothing. Things weren't hard on this front in Benden were they? He never remembered this kind of situation explicitly.
"WELL I AM NOT THE BABYSITTER OF YOUR EMOTIONS!" He was still yelling, he did not get it, he was merely defending himself from the perceived barbs. He wasn't psychic...and it anything for the time being he was a lot less aware than the normal human being. He couldn't tell when someone's heart was broken so the bronzerider just squinted at her chest trying to summon some kind of x-ray vision for physical proof of this fissure, though surely it would probably be interpreted as a different type of gaze entirely.
Thats when she faded away over to the bench after something of an embarrassing self confession (embarrassing to him, because he wouldn't dare let such personal information fly freely, but then again, he also wasn't a girl) and he followed her over to catch her hand muted apology. What he didn't understand, in his drunken state, was why she was apologizing and not doing something to remedy the situation. Dance with me. He swore he heard himself saying, Stop making me look like an ass. Standing around with a crying girl did nothing for one's reputation after all.
"To be recognized as a woman..." he began blathering, interrupted by another drink of his half rate wine, "You need to act like one, and not a crying girl...." then was his awkward attempt at a reassuring pat on the back, though it was so stiff and robotic that it looked more like he was trying to beat lodged food out her her chest.

He couldn't hear what was going on, really; only snatches here and there. He wasn't sure if the shouting was in anger, or if it had to do with the music coming from the harpers, but a few of the nearby people were casting confused glances in the pair's direction. M'kai snuck closer, but he still couldn't quite hear. Something about... raising voices? Creature who loves him most? Babysitter of her emotions? M'kai couldn't figure it out, and to do so, he'd have to get even closer.
But the way her shoulders were shaking, and her voice cracked- was Megs crying? Had he truly hurt her that badly? No, not possible. Megs was tougher than that, this was just a phase. Right? Teenage girls had phases? There was no way he could have hurt her that badly. Now he'd have to talk to her, make it better somehow. Explain. Not now, though... it would have to be after the gather, maybe even after the Hatching if he could put it off that long. He wouldn't want to ruin that for her with his stupid explainations.
He was getting ready to sneak away- Megs was a big girl, she could take care of herself!- when he thought the bronzerider caught his eye for a second. M'kai froze. Had he been caught lurking? Would he be called out?
