Aminadra tightened her grip on the Bluerider's waist and shut her eyes tight as the dragon circled down into the weyrbowl. She wanted to see the Weyr, but the descent was making her stomach flip, and she wasn't used to heights. Tentatively, she opened one eye, only to see a Green veer so close to the Blue she was riding they almost collided. They avoided a crash expertly, but Aminadra still screamed right into the rider's ear, much to her embarrassment.
"Sorry," she said, closing her eyes again for the benefit of both of them. The rider just laughed. Ami breathed a sigh of relief as the Blue neatly touched ground. The dragon extended his foreleg, and Ami jumped to the ground with help from the rider. "Thank you so much...for everything." After her handed her bag down, she grinned at the rider and shook his hand, then went to find her new room in the candidate barracks.
Back home, it had been snowing, but here it was sunny and warm. It was definitely a nice change--one of many, she suspected. She found the candidate barracks with no trouble. She saw some other candidates in the common room and smiled at them, then continued to her own room.
Setting her bag down on the floor, she then launched herself onto one of the cots and buried her head in the pillow to muffle her squeals of excitement. She was here, in the Weyr! She was a candidate! It was almost too good to be true.

"Hello," Liassa greeted as she strolled into the barracks. She was surprised to see a new bed filled, especially since she was used to the barracks being quite empty at this time of day. Her mother had allowed her a few candlemarks to herself before lessons with A'noan. Never had she seen her mother more proud than when she had filled the man's plate with the sickness herbs. Now it allowed her to have a bit more freedom around lesson time than she'd ever had before. It seemed that her mother was eager to prove her daughter's worth to the bronzerider and perhaps even to herself. Liassa didn't know...and Liassa didn't particularly care. She'd just do her lessons and work with her mother and do her chores, it was how it worked.
She resisted the urge to cock her head to the side a bit, the new girl wasn't a runner to be examined. "Are you new to the weyr?" she asked, fairly certain that the girl was. Liassa was quite familiar with more of the weyrbrats considering the fact that she'd grown up with all of them. It was exciting to have a new girl in the barracks, seeing as how the female side of the barracks wasn't particularly full. Especially now that Raen had moved in with the Weyrwoman. A new friend could be fun...

At the sound of the other girl's voice, Aminadra quickly sat up, flushing slightly and wondering if her fellow candidate had witnessed her enthusiastic display. She smoothed her skirts and hair down and presented the girl with a small smile. "Hi there." Standing, she extended a hand in greeting. "Yes, I'm new. I just arrived a few minutes ago, actually. I'm Aminadra." She shook the girl's hand briefly, then turned her gaze to her bag.
"If you don't mind, I'm just going to unpack while we talk," she said, hoping that this wasn't terribly rude. She wanted to be settled in as fast as possible, and having her things out of a bag and into drawers would help. Hoisting her bag onto the bed, she opened it and started taking out clothes, folding them with precise skill brought by turns of laundry. Once again, she felt a stab of excitement. Here she was, unpacking in the candidate barracks, when she could be folding baby clothes into a drawer or mending her husband's shirts.

Liassa grinned as she watched the girl attempt to collect herself. She'd leave it up to her to decide whether or not she actually saw the display. It was too funny and it would be way too amusing to watch her try to determine it. She had only seen the tail end of it in all actuality, but she wasn't nice enough to tell the girl one way or another. "Nice to meet you Aminadra, I'm Liassa," she offered, "If you need anything, just ask. I've lived here all my life so I'm more than familiar with the weyr. Did you come from another weyr or are you craft- or holdbred?" She wanted to know just how much help this girl was going to need. The weyrbred adapted just fine, but hold- and craftbred tended to have issues with the change in lifestyle. She seemed like a fairly strong character though.
"Oh of course," she acquiesed, climbing up to perch on her top bunk. "I guess we're to be bunkmates. You're lucky, I don't snore." She laughed softly before leaning back a bit. Her back was aching from bending over the tubers that her mother had her peel today. She was used to the work, but she had been too consumed with candidate lessons and her apprenticeship lately to do her usual chores. It didn't make her mother happy, but the older woman just wanted the best for her and tried not to show her displeasure.

"A pleasure to meet you, Liassa." Aminadra smiled at the other candidate over a shirt she was folding. Her eyes widened when Liassa mentioned that she had been born in the Weyr. She tried not to show either jealousy or admiration in her voice or face, not wanting Liassa to find her silly or ingratiating. "Thanks. I'm sure I'll have questions. I'm Holdbred. Very Holdbred," she admitted wryly, her smile turning a bit rueful.
She rose and dropped the shirt into a drawer. "Bunkmates? That'll be fun. I've never shared a room before," she said, pleased rather than upset about having a room-mate. It would be interesting to share a room with someone with a different background from hers. And maybe she could finally have a girlfriend to confide in. Her sisters and cousins at the Hold were nice, but too likely to rat on her to their mother. "I should warn you, though. I talk in my sleep."

Staring at the ceiling, Liassa grinned. “It’s nice to meet you as well,” she answered, examining the crack above her. She was fond of having the top bunk when there wasn’t anyone below her. If there was someone below her, she’d have to use the ladder to get up and down instead of just jumping up from the lower bunk. “Holdbred, hmm, they make weyrlife interesting. Don’t worry, it’s very different, but you’ll live.” She had seen so many come from holds and take a long time adjusting. Something about the freedom the weyr allowed confused them to the point that they rebelled against it. It was slightly backwards in Liassa’s mind. She didn’t think she’d get upset if she was allowed more freedom, but that was just her opinion on the matter. “It’s not as great as you might think. A lot of girls in one room doesn’t end very well. I promise, it doesn’t get too bad, but try to stay out of the way when it starts getting catty.” She knew how bad it could get, but at least it was quiet right now. With the hatching getting closer, it was sure to get a lot louder. Tensions would be high and girls had the tendency to take things out on one another. She laughed at Aminadra’s admission. “Don’t worry about it. I sleep like a rock, I won’t notice.”
