Brelas was in the dining hall and was feeling a bit overwhelmed at all the people. He got behind some other people in a line for food as he got a cup of klah and then some bread. When he got a bowl of stew then looked for somewhere to sit down and decided a empty spot at a small table. A quick look around made him realize that he was in good company with a white shirt and black leather pants that had been sent by his parents as a going away gift. The young man started to eat and watched the riders how they carried themselves with pride.
He hoped that one day that he would be able to carry himself like that. Brelas noticed a difference in the riders though how Selentias riders we're confident yet humble while the waste landers we're almost cocky. The young candidate hadn't had much to do since arriving a few days earlier. His dealing we're chores and no real lessons as of yet at the weyr. A few of the riders said hello to him yet most treated him like he didn't exist.
A few bites of rolls and he enjoyed them because they had a rich good taste. Brelas realized that at least here he'd never go hungry while at other places especially at home where food was scarce on diversity. The young candidate continued to eat in silence and just observed things for now. He didn't notice anybody else around in the barracks and assumed people we're just keeping their distance.

Poor Brelas. The Weyr was a big place; it could house hundreds of dragon/rider pairs, and even if it wasn't at full capacity at the moment, there was maybe a 1 in 200 or 300 chance that the Candidate would run in to this particular rider. Maybe even more than that. Especially since H'nes generally ate with his Wingleaders and Wingseconds when he ate in the dining hall. Tonight, though, drills had run overtime, and K'ian did not seem especially apt to eat with the upper echelons of late. The loss of that Blue dragon... it had hit the younger Bronzerider hard, even though he had been commended for his quick thinking, and additionally recognized for leaving the rider alive (even if it had been an accident). No need to waste the human when removing the dragon could solve the problem.
So H'nes was left dining-partner-less once he collected a bowl of stew, a glass of wine, and a plate full of the deliciously fresh vegetables you got here in the South. Definitely something they had over the North. Scanning the hall for unoccupied tables, he spotted a few, but it would be a better use of his time to meet some of the new residents of the Weyr. Candidates seemed to be coming in all the time, and with Millieth egg heavy, it was to H'nes' advantage to have at least a few of them on his side before impression. So instead of empty tables, he looked for white knots, which he found.
Most were clustered in small groups, but one had taken a table by himself. Dark brown hair and simple clothing meant the boy blended in, mostly, but H'nes headed his direction with a disarming smile above his perfectly tailored flightleathers. If Brelas wondered who was coming towards him, a glance at H'nes' shoulder would tell the truth - this was the Weyrleader. Offering the Candidate a hand to shake as he reached tableside, H'nes pulled out the chair before saying, "Hello, I'm H'nes. Mind if I share your table? I haven't seen you around, and I like to get to know young men like yourself. The promising sort."

Brelas was lost in thought as he heard a voice and looked up to see a older gentlemen. He looked at the hand then shook it and said, "Yes, go ahead," in response to the question. When he got a closer look at the man's clothes then noticed the knots and it hit him. "Your the weyrleader," said Brelas as he was a little taken back that someone that important would even talk to him. The young man just watched him a mouth agape as he looked at him and finally smiled in response.
"Me," said Brelas in response to the last bit of his comment and just was quiet not quite sure what to say. While he just watched him then drank down some klah to get himself adjusted again. Brelas just stared because he never figured that the weyrleader would want to speak to a candidate. A candidate that had just arrived and he kept quiet as he looked at him. While he finally started to eat again and didn't really know what to say to the man that he'd heard stories of for turns.
Brelas continued to eat then remembered his bad manners and said, "I'm so sorry my name is Brelas,". He looked at the man that held the weyr together and it was almost like someone larger then life. The young man was just watching a bit agape to him this man was almost not human. A legend the dragon riders we're to him and it was still hard to believe that he might become one.

Good, H'nes thought, the boy looked shocked but not angry. If he knew that H'nes was Wasteland, he didn't show it, at least not in a negative way. He made a note to commend whatever Searchrider had found the Candidate - this was exactly the kind of potential Rider the Weyr needed. Taking a seat, he smiled at the boy when Brelas took his hand and introduced himself. "The Weyrleader indeed," he said, just the hint of displeasure crossing his face at that term, "Pleased to make your acquaintance, Brelas."
Starting in on his food, H'nes nodded when the Candidate seemed surprised that H'nes had picked him out. When Brelas didn't seem inclined to make conversation (not that H'nes thought that was a problem, in fact he was quite pleased that the Candidate seemed to know not to annoy his betters with idle chatter) he swallowed the bite of food and tilted his head at the Candidate. "Yes, you," he started, gesturing at Brelas' knots with his fork. "Young men like yourself seem few and far between these days - most of the Candidates who have been searched recently are female, and most of the males are looking for Whers. You are a Dragon candidate, no?" H'nes asked. No reason, after all, to tether yourself to a lesser Wher unless you'd already tried for a Dragon. Waiting for the affirmative answer, H'nes went on, "So tell me about yourself, Brelas. Where did you come from? Who searched you? What do you hope to Impress?"

Brelas looked at the man then was quiet as he was given praise from the weyrleader. He said, "Yes, I'm a dragon candidate and never stood before for one," then listened to the questions raised. The young man was almost overwhelmed as he ate a bit more then turned to the man then said, "Hypen Hold," as he was proud of his hold. While he shows great pride in his hold because they supplied the firestone for the weyr. His next thought went into the next question about who had searched him then he said, "Ithanna," as he kindly remebered the beautiful greenrider.
She was very good to him that day not impressing upon him for anything such as leaving to join them and had left the decision up to him. The young man smiled at the weyrleader then had to admit that at least to himself he'd never seen it coming. It was the last question that gave him cause to pause and he just sighed. If he was to get a dragon any type would be a honor and said, "I would be pleased for anytype of dragon because I never thought that I would make it this far,".
It was a fact that he never thought he'd be chosen for search and any type of dragon would be welcomed. He had heard stories of men that once they made the connection it was forever. Brelas looked at the weyrleader and said, "I just hope that the dragonets find me worthy," because he feared to be left standing. If he was left standing then he would try again because he would ride a dragon that much was for certain as he took a sip of his drink.
