Bevany was not pleased this morning. No amount of her Grandma-ma talking with her was going to put her into a good mood now. She was more than a little miffed and her father was most of the cause. The talk at the breakfast table had turned from a generally well meaning topic of why not help around the house today to something much more disagreeable. Marriage. Why her father felt the need to put into conversation all the time the need for her to become more accustomed to running the home than the farm had now been brought to light. She was old enough but just barely. Although broaching the subject with her today would only be the start.
This was how her father was with her. He would bring something up once just to get her to think it over and then once she had grown familiar with the subject at hand he would continuously bring up said subject. If this was to be the subject of conversation for the next few Turns she wanted to have nothing to do with. Even now she could only think of all the things that she would be forced to do if married. Bevany was quite certain no man would understand her whims or her wish to do things the way she wanted. Especially not the idea she could work the farm better then she could cook. Oh for the love of little green dragons what was her father trying to do to her?
She could not stay home and listen to one more word come out of his mouth. No, she was quite finished with this conversation. So, without a word, she stood up, leaving her food on her plate and walked out of their small home. She needed a walk. If there was anything that made sense it was nature. The sun fed the green things light, the sky rain, the green things fed the animals and the animals fed the people and the dragons. Here was where everything seemed to be in its right place. Nothing was amiss. Bevany never really thought about how far she walked from her home but this was shaping up to be a long one.
The fact of the matter was, she wasn't going to marry. The sooner her father accepted this the better! She was rarely angry, she was rarely given cause to be. Sometimes she felt that she had no anger at all however this situation had disproved the concept of not being capable of certain emotions. Her father had never tested her like this. He had certainly never put his foot down on anything before when it came to what she wanted. Bevany did not like it. She was not going to be caged in some marriage with a man telling her what to do every day of her life. If she had to, she would leave and start on her own somewhere else. What did she need a man for?
Taking a deep breath she stopped, leaning on one of the sparse trees in the area. Farmland as far as the eye could see. The country was beautiful, even if the main hold was breathtaking of its own architectural beauty, it did not compare to this. She saw farmland and she thought of home. She felt a warm hearth, something cooking on the spit and someone humming a tune under their breath. Did she have the guts to leave? Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear that had come loose from its ponytail she felt more at ease. Bevany stared at the vast expanse before her and felt she would do anything to live as she saw fit and not how a man or woman for that matter thought it should be.
