What are you doing to that poor salamandyr? K’ian heard through the snifflings of his salamandyr. The poor creature looked absolutely dreadful. Her body had lost most of its color. She was a pale white color, eyes flashing various shades of misery. Copious amounts of mucus was leaking from her nose and she was just lying about listlessly. K’ian probably wouldn’t have been too concerned had the salamandyr’s general misery not been leaking into him. He glared at his dragon. “ She just has a cold or something.” Somehow, Romeoth wasn’t convinced. He gave his bonded an incredulous look and glanced to where the salamandyr was lying prone on the extra dragon couch. Maybe you should take her to the infirmary? He said somewhat hopefully. The man frowned at the dragon.
“ What for? She’s gonna be fine. I didn’t think you even cared.” I dooooon’t. But I’d hate for you to get sick because she is. Whether you like it or not, she affects you nearly as much as I do…more so when it comes to her runs. He had to admit that the dragon was right. He wasn’t used to the emotional rollercoaster that was green draconoids. Romeoth was controlled in nearly every situation. And he had been with K’ian long enough for the man to learn to control himself when the bronze’s emotions were leaking into him. Mouse was something new. A rush of emotion where there hadn’t been much. He found that he couldn’t control her, and that scared him more than a little bit. He didn’t show it much, but seeing his lively green salamandyr looking nearly white and much like a sock scared him. He didn’t want to know what the healer had to say….really, he didn’t. So just denying that anything could be wrong and pretending that she would get better worked out for him.
Since she had gotten sick, Mouse hadn’t spoken much. Mostly, her words were reserved for Romeoth, since she had an easier time speaking with him. And despite his dislike for her, the bronze was concerned. Even the salamandyrs morale had suffered, Rom informed his, when she had tried frantically to reach Titania, her favored sibling over and over again, only to be met with complete and utter silence. Where was her sisiter? Gone from the weyr? Worse off than she? If the other green had been in the weyr, sick or not, Mouse would know. As it was, there was absolutely nothing. She feared the worst. As did Romeoth. K’ian wasn’t so convinced. He had seen A’emi around the weyr without a Titania or a Darkling, and the greenrider didn’t seem to be overly upset…so K’ian simply assumed that he sent his mindmates away, or they decided to stay away from the weyr for their own good. K’ian didn’t feel like telling her this. Knowing that her sister didn’t care enough to ask her to come along would only make her feel worse. So. Making her think that she’s dead is so much better. K’ian shot Romeoth a glare that was clearly You better not tell. and sighed lightly.
“ Fine!” He said in a huff, sick and tired of feeling terrible. “ I’ll take her, but she’s fine. I’m telling you. They’re going to laugh me out of the infirmary for bringing in a salamandyr with a cold.” He walked over and picked Mouse up. The salamandyr struggled to look up at her man, but she couldn’t. Exhausted, she just fell limp in his hands. He looked down at her, something bulky in his gut. They both knew that this wasn’t just a cold. Moving the salamandyr to a better position, he cradled her and walked over to Romeoth, who looked down at him, puzzled. “ This was your idea. You are taking us to the weyrbowl, at least.”
Rumbling lightly, Romeoth obliged and once his rider was seated comfortable, spread his wings and took flight. Normally, he dropped off his ledge, but not wanting to traumatize the poor salamandyr anymore than he had to, he steadied himself off and circled the weyrbowl a couple of times before landing in the grass, folding his wings in. K’ian slid off the dragon’s back before leaning on his leg and lifting Mouse to eye level. She really didn’t look very good at all. White and emaciated from not eating. She hung in his hands, though her tail was very loosely curled around her bonded’s wrist. Oh, she loved him she did. So very much, even if she couldn’t show him now. He would never abandon her, would he? Her eyes flashed red and blue, but mostly blue because now she could see her favorite human, when she couldn’t look at him before.
“ Oh Mouse…”
