Sitting crosslegged on the edge of the top of a table under a tree, Isori was leaned all the way forward with her elbows on her knees. Humming a happy little tune, she had a freshly-spun string dropping taughtly from her fingers toward the ground below. At the end of the string was a brightly-painted hand-carved drop spindle gaily spinning away as she fingered her end of the string. Slowly, it dropped toward the ground on a longer string until finally it touched the leaflitter there. Stretching downward, Isori picked up the spindle and started winding the new string onto it until she had coiled up all of her loose length.
Setting the spindle to spinning again as her fingers worked in the fibers that fed into the growing yarn, she looked up and around at the woods around her. It was cold, a bit nippy. But beneath the canopy, the wind wasn't too bad. She was warm enough in her coat ... even warmer with her young dragon curled around behind her taking up the rest of the table she was sitting on. Nothing quite like a warmed backrest to keep the chill away!
The reason she was out here was because it was miserable indoors. Not for lack of anything to do, it was just ... too stuffy. Too many people clustering for warmth, not enough light, all that wonderful mid-winter blues type stuff. So, it was time for some fresh air before she caught someone's cold ... when there was little medicine to go around, too. Such found her sitting outside, busy as ever. There would be a lot of cloth to make, and clothes too in the coming months. Especially since it was so very cold. People would want jackets and shirts and pants to wear after all.
So despite her chores taking care of her not quite so wild stallion, and attending to her chores and lessons with her lovely green, she spent her spare time crafting. They needed her skills. It was a good thing she liked doing what she did! Because she sure spent a lot of time doing it.
"I think it's starting to get colder out here." She commented finally, actually bothering to say something that actually involved words.
That happens when the sun starts to go down, yes. Aikelyth answered, cracking a big yawn that flashed all of her still-white teeth.
Isori laughed. "You talk like you have been around ages and know the ways of the world." She chided.
Aikelyth cracked an eye to look up at her. How many days does a body have to endure before they figure out that it gets chillier at night?

There was no doubt about it, winter in Burimyu Weyr was doomed to be boring, and by that K’fuzzi meant more boring than usual, and there was only so much hunting one dragonpair could do. Which basically meant that K’fuzzi was stuck in the immediate area of the Weyr, and determined to have a good old mental moan to himself about the situation. At least the weather wasn’t too bad, compared to Fort Weyr’s winters anyway, and he had his lovely greens. Yes, even in his most morose moments the young man would always count Balath and Jubilee among the best things in his life, which was just as well since they were both around to scold him. Well, sort of around in Balath’s case, she’d given up on walking with her rider when K’fuzzi had started walking through areas too crowded with trees for a large green dragon to navigate, and hadn’t shown much interest in rejoining him.
The sound of humming eventually penetrated K’fuzzi’s idle thoughts, well that and the cheerful fluting of Jubilee joining in the melody. When he looked up, because a good mental moan should always be accompanied by staring morosely at ones own feet (and K’fuzzi liked to be able to see what he was treading on), the greenrider was confronted with the sight of his pet looping the hummer, a weyrling rider who was now speaking to her dragon. What he was really curious about was why the young woman was sat on a table, bringing one out here just to sit on seemed somewhat strange.
In the back of his awareness he felt Balath’s happy squeal of recognition, possibly the only irritating habit Balath had was squealing at everything. Oh FuzziMine! It’s one of the babies! I’ll come and play with you all! Well that and the habit of rushing up to play with anyone and anything, K’fuzzi mentally corrected himself as he heard heavy foot steps. ‘Watch out, Balath’s coming this way, and she can be quite clumsy.’ He warned the other greenpair, just in time for his own dragon to squeeze through a gap in the trees and bound into the larger space before stopping neatly by K’fuzzi and prancing in place. Hello! I’m Balath! I came to play with you. You do want to play, don’t you? The older green’s tone became markedly less certain towards the end of her speech, in a way that suggested she’d burst into tears (impossible for a dragon, but still…) if no one wanted to play.
‘Okay she’s not that clumsy.’ K’fuzzi amended with a slight blush over the melodramatic warning. ‘But she is very enthusiastic about… things.’ Things in this case covered nearly everything.

Isori lifted her gaze to look at the source of a new voice. Oh! A pretty little flitter! Singing along, too! Isori giggled, and stopped her spindle with one hand as she reached up to the little green with her other hand, inviting the creature closer. "My, you have a lovely little voice!" She complimented, pausing yet again at the sound of a male voice.
Lowering her gaze again, this time to human-level, she caught sight of K'fuzzi meandering about. "What?" She asked, before her attention was yet again stolen by yet another entry. At which she laughed as Aikelyth lifted her head from her paws. "My, it got crowded about these parts fast!" She laughed, taking a moment to wind her spin yarn onto the spindle lest it come undone again before it was set.
Play? Now? You did? Me? the young green was obviously somewhat overwhelmed by those statements all rushed together like that. Playing was the last thing on the young green's mind ... it was too cold!! It was time to hibernate the winter away, even if dragons did not hibernate. But that imploring tone did effect her. Slowly, she rose from where she was sprawled on the table, stretching the kinks out of her frame.
Bounding down onto the ground, she turned and darted toward the older green, and between her front feet, out the side and around behind her. She was still too young to fly, but she still used her wings as rudders and balance as her legs propelled her across the ground, round and round, about and under. You can't catch me!! She chirped.
Isori watched that for a moment before bursting into peals of laughter, leaning toward where K'fuzzi was standing. "I take it this one is yours? She's adorable!! What did you say her name was? What's your name, if I might ask? I'm Isori!" She extended a hand with a grin in greeting.

Jubilee twittered a soft little sound of acknowledgment to her new friend and inclined her brightly bespeckled head in a very humanlike gesture at Isori’s compliment. Content with that for now the green looped back over to her bonded and chattered at him, not scoldingly as some firelizards would do but with just a hint that she was disappointed with so much drama for so very little result.
‘So it seems.’ K’fuzzi agreed, one fully grown dragon could be a crowd all by herself, especially when she was as enthusiastic as his lovely Balath. ‘I do sort of come with a crowd attached.’ He added with an apoligetic tone. ‘Jubilee’s always interested in what’s going on everywhere and Balath just wants to play with everyone. She’s been dying to meet some of the weyrlings.’ An affectionate smile crossed the greenrider’s face as he looked at the two greens playing.
Of course! Balath exclaimed with another of her enthusiastic prances, her happiness apparently totally restored now that the younger green was getting up and stretching. Oh yes I can! I can catch many things! the striped green responded to the challenge by lifting her front legs up from the ground as the smaller green ran underneath her. Obviously it was her quarry’s intent to use her small size to make Balath tie herself in knots, but the older dragon found she couldn’t oblige on this occasion. Pivoting on her hindlegs the bigger green came crashing down and lunged playfully sideways with one wing flaring in an attempt to tag the other green.
K’fuzzi exibited a somewhat embarrassed smile. ‘Yes, she’s mine.’ he admitted, wondering just who else Balath could be bonded to. ‘Pleased to meet you Isori, the large playful green is Balath, the tiny one with the big voice is Jubilee, and I’m K’fuzzi.’ The greenrider broke eye contact as he got to his own name and examined the ground. He supposed he was going to get used to the name one day, until then, well... he just hoped Isori wasn’t going to burst out laughing, she seemed about the type for it so far.

Isori grinned. "Really? Dying? She looks mighty lively to me!" She giggled, deliberately being a touch over literal with what he said, picking at his words playfully. "Don't worry about it. Once she gets started, Aikelyth can be bouncy herself. Sometimes I think she forgets she's a green, and then all of a sudden it all comes rushing out all at once." She smiled tenderly at the green that was darting around back and forth underneath the older dragon.
Aikelyth squeaked in a distinctly baby-dragonlike voice, darting back under the older green again in an attempt to dodge the pounce and wing-slam. Scooting around behind Balath's heels, she scooted around the outside of that dropped wing. Don't squish me!!! I am only little!! she protested, though she continued to scamper around with apparently little inclination to stop.
Even Isori had paused, feeling like her heart had just tried to stop as she witnessed the bigger green trying to catch the smaller. Breathing again, she inhaled sharply and looked over at K'fuzzi again. "I'm glad she's quick on her feet!" She admitted, relieved that Aikelyth had managed to miss getting caught.
"K'fuzzi? Now I'm curious. What was your full name before you impressed?" Isori asked, wondering how a body ended up with such a strange hodgepodge of awkward letters all put together for a name. But laughing was not something she did. While she was an in general fairly light-hearted girl, she was not stupid. Not everything was laughing material, even if it did strike her interest. No, even of the twins who were smarter than they let on, she was by far the more scholastic of the two. "Where are you from originally, if you don't mind my asking?"

A vague shadow of a frown passed over K’fuzzi’s face as the pedantic words were spoken, accompanied by a look over at his dragon as if to confirm she really was there, alive and healthy. The slight frown resolved itself into a smile as soon as his gaze caught Balath and her small friend. ‘Well, now that you mention it she does seem very lively today.’ He commented in a somewhat ironic tone. Balath’s liveliness was only ever interrupted by sleep.
Balath rumbled cheerfully and flicked her tail out as Aikelyth ran around behind her. And it is fair for you to try and make me tie myself in knots? You shouldn’t run under me, it makes a mockery of my size. The was no denying that the striped green was on the large end of the spectrum but her words showed nothing more than a playfully teasing tone as she sidled toward the younger green and flicked her wing out again, If she kept trying she was bound to tag Aikelyth eventually. Beyond that she didn’t think much.
Once again a frown briefly crossed K’fuzzi’s face, although he had been the one who said Balath was clumsy he didn’t much appreciate anyone else think that, even if he couldn’t really blame Isori when Balath brought her feet down so close to the smaller green.
This time the look that crossed the greenrider’s face was slightly pained, his name was something of a pain and always had been, but on the bright side he supposed Isori at least wasn’t laughing. ‘Kainfuzzi, if you can believe it.At least I could shorten that to Kain. It’s all my father’s fault for being K’futhn really. I wanted Ka’zin but apparently I don’t get to pick.’ Girls had it a lot easier K’fuzzi reflected, they just got to keep their old name. ‘I’m from the north.’ That wasn’t a particularly forthcoming answer but saying he was from Fort Weyr was the kind of thing that could only raise questions.

My, but he seemed to be a frowner. Isori shook her head slowly, almost ruefully even as a small smile played across her features. "Smile! Make people wonder what you're thinking!" She prompted, reaching over to pat the bench next to her. Maybe he would sit, get a little more comfortable. Maybe less stoic.
Aikelyth chirped and warbled, spinning around on her heels and running the other way behind the older green, ducking under the swaying tail as she went. Fair? What is fair? Winning is not accomplished by being fair! Winning is accomplished by using all of one's abilities to the fullest extent, playing upon the weaknesses of others! the weyrling answered. Only to run around Balath's other side and promptly squeal and plow headlong into her wingsail before she could quite get stopped. Sliding down onto the ground, she just lay there for a moment, panting as her limbs sprawled all over the place. Not fair! She protested, contradicting everything she'd just got through saying. Which only set Isori to giggling hysterically for a moment.
But only for a moment. She was, after all, talking to K'fuzzi, and he was being all so serious about everything. The last thing she needed him thinking was that she was laughing at him. "I gather you don't like your name? I think it's very interesting, and certainly memorable!! I bet no one forgets your name. Names like mine ... they slip the mind easily and disappear into the fog of time so quickly." She shrugged, fiddling with her drop spindle in her fingers. "How would you get Ka'zin out of Kainfuzzi?" She mused.
The answer that he was from the North really didn't surprise her much. She had long ago discovered that at least fully half the Southern Weyr was from the North anyway. But they were all there for a reason it seemed ... mostly for disagreeing with the principles of the North. So there was nothing at all wrong with them being Northern, in her mind. In fact, kudos to them for having the balls to step out of the ranks and object so rather blatantly as they did. "I'm from boring old Blossom." She offered.
