Emilliah stared blankly into the waters of the Selenitas river. Many dragons and wheres, and even little lizards alike had died recently due to it's poisoned waters. Her blue Mouse had been one of the casualties. She had seen his blue body float down the river. It had been paler than she remembered and his eyes were the white of death. Shrew chirped quizzically at Her's. The green simply didn't understand! She had known Her's had other mindmates, but they weren't real, were they? She had never felt them and hadn't felt the passing of the so called Mouse. Nonetheless, the green curled up on the girl's shoulder where Mouse had once curled. Emiliah welcomed the comfort. Mouse had been, so, tears welled up in her eyes as she tried to remember what he had felt like.
She tossed little stones into the clear, safe waters now. Dib perched on a rock nearby. "Mouse was a good friend." "A good friend, he was," echoed the sad girl. She picked at the wet hem of her pants. She had just scrambled out of the water after taking Shrew away from it. Not Shrew! She couldn't stand losing both of them!
The girl began humming a melancholy tune. The higher notes for the death knell of a dragon. The lower tones echoing the mood of her own heart. Terribly distressed, Shrew squawked and curled tighter to Emi, her tail creating almost a tourniquet on the girl's arm. The drudge took the green from her shoulder and cradled her like a babe. Her sad tone turned to a lullaby, one she'd heard before but could place from where. It soother the young flit in her arms and slowly Emi felt the creature fall asleep. Sleep, she wanted to sleep, to red her cried-out red eyes. But no, she must hold a vigil for Mouse. He deserved no less.
