Kyr'n hissed in irritation as he dropped the dull practice knife yet again. The afternoon was still fairly young and he was getting in some extra time practicing with the weapon. You would think for someone who could perform surgery this would be easy, but Kyr'n was having a hard time handling the larger knife. Shards, he was a healer wasn't he? Fighting was other peoples jobs.
You dropped it again, Kyr'nMine, Yeomenth's sweet, alluring voice echoed from where she was curled under the tree. You really aught to be getting better by now, she commented, a little harshly. Her person had to be the best after all, she deserved nothing less. "Why don't you try it then, your highness," Kyr'n returned sarcastically. Yeomenth snorted, her voice aghast. Me? You jest surely. I am born for far greater things than such violence. Like getting other people to fight for you, Kyr'n thought to himself, a little bitterly. He picked up the knife again and started to go through the practice routine again. He just needed to be good enough to pass, then he could put this stupid fighting behind him.

They're asleep now so let's go, Chakraith suggested gently, calmly whirling eyes focused on the pair of sleeping firelizards in their basket. Dy'shi was too paranoid to let them sleep on his bed - and boy did Khippei ever have a fit about that - out of fear of squishing them in his sleep. At the same time he thought he ought to give them their own comfy bed to sleep on, hence the basket. Yes, coming. Two seconds, He responded, the thought barely a whisper against his blue's mind. Both of his firelizards were rather light sleepers and he really did not want to risk waking them. Not for this.
The bluerider snatched up the knife he'd been given as a gift ages ago and slid it into its sheathe before vaulting up onto Chakraith's back, foregoing the straps. Four years as a rider meant he could handle a simple trip down to the weyrbowl without them. Chakraith didn't feel he could hang on without them and go fast though so she ignored his urgings to do so. Four years a rider and he still loved flying as much as the first time they'd done it. Particularly fast, loopy, breath-stealing flying.
Dy'shi hadn't really been paying attention to what was on the ground until his blue actually landed and the teen dismounted. It was then that he noticed that Chakraith had landed them close to company. "Chak? I thought we agreed that no distractions would be best. That's why we snuck out..." I thought you might like to say hello to this pair anyways? It is Kyr'n and Yeomenth, I believe. The blue couldn't be certain of the green's name since she hadn't directly interacted with the other female. "Oh. Well." Dy'shi frowned for a moment before sighing and waving at Kyr'n. "Hello Kyr'n!"

Kyr'n nearly dropped the knife again at the voice. He turned angrily, but relaxed slightly at a familiar face. "Oh, it's you." Yeomenth. Why didn't you tell me they were here? Should I have? You can see for yourself can you not? Kyr'n didn't respond to that. It was pointless trying to argue with her in this kind of mood, which was pretty much everyday. "Come to mock me too, have you?" Kyr'n asked Dy'shi, lifting the practice knife meaningfully.
Yeomenth was regarding Chakraith with interest. A blue was hardly worth her attention in the long run, but this one was female and that was strange. Ah well, she wasn't that much to look at. Yeomenth turned her nose into the air. She was far more lovely, even as young as she was. Soon all the males would flock for her attention and she would choose only the most worthy to stay by her side.

Dy'shi snorted and rolled his eyes at the reaction he got. Sometimes he seriously wondered why he tried to be polite with Kyrstin. Kyr'n. Whatever. The bluerider only shook his head very slightly in disbelief and then pulled out his knife to start going through the excercises A'emi had suggested. More like demanded, really. He startled slightly at Kyr'n's question and looked over at the weyrling. "What? Oh. No, I really have no right to mock anyone about that," Dy'shi admitted, smiling in a self-deprecating manner.
He showed his in a non-threatening manner and continued, "I kinda seriously suck too. At least according to A'emi...and just about anyone else." He shrugged then. "You should find someone to help you out. Goes loads faster than trying to learn on your own." After all, he could probably try and sink his into someone the right way around now. Succeed? Maybe not, but still. That would come in time...he hoped. Well, not really. He didn't really want to kill people. He just wanted to protect the people he cared about.
Chakraith looked the green over before noticing she had been summarily dismissed. Well then. The blue looked at the younger female for a moment more before turning away and heading towards the water in the weyrbowl. When she got there she laid out gracefully, whirling gaze reflected in the water as she watched the calm water. She dipped a claw in and watched the ripples that it caused idly.

Kyr'n eyed Dy'shi as he spoke without much expression in his face. Really, he wasn't that surprised. The young man had never struck as someone who was particularly skilled in the art of committing murder. True, they were learning "self-defense" which did have its merits. Even so, Kyr'n did not really enjoy the prospect of injuring and killing people when his job was to put them back together. Of course, he did know a lot of vital areas, but that did nothing if he couldn't hit them!
"It seems so," Kyr'n agreed reluctantly. He did not like asking for help, but at least he wouldn't have to ask Dy'shi. Kyr'n toyed with the practice knife in his hand. Maybe he would ask this A'emi for help, though it would depend on what kind of man he was. Just his luck, it might some crazy greenrider. He really should take some time to learn all the riders names and dragons. It brought up another question in Kyr'n's mind though and he couldn't help asking. "You did not learn this as a weyrling?"
Yeomenth watches Chakraith smugly for a while, but soon grows bored of the silence. No one was admiring her, praising her, or offering chances to use her cleverness. Sauntering over to the odd blue female, Yeomenth curled gracefully next to her, as if she had entirely meant to do this in the first place. Is it odd being blue? she asks in a bored tone. The poor males must be so confused.

Dy'shi watched Kyr'n for a moment before shrugging and going back to his excercises. He had tried being nice with the man but it evidentally hadn't amounted to much of anything for the greenweyrling so he'd largely given up. He'd be polite and he'd continue to hold a bit of a flame for him - he was pretty cute, after all, and a Healer at that. Dy liked Healers because usually they just cared, so much - for a bit he imagined. He seemed a bit cursed to like guys who would never settle with him. X'rx was happily inexclusive but he didn't even know if Kyr'n swung for his team anyways. His general frustration manifested physically as his jabs at an imagine enemy grew a touch more impassioned.
The bluerider picked up on Kyr'n's question mid-stab and lost his careful footing, over-balancing a little to stumble forward. He dropped the knife hand to his side and gave the man a slightly incredulous glance. Kyr'n was asking him questions? Huh, imagine that. "Oh, we had Iskierka teaching us so of course we learned some. But I was both extremely resistant to learning to fight and had no reason to. Not a personal one, anyways..." He trailed off, trying to fight back the pained expression that briefly overtook his face. Dy'shi glanced down at his knife, fingering the hilt of it. A gift from a friend who had died...and he didn't want to lose anymore so he'd been searching out a trainer for a while until the new wings enforced it more.
Chakraith was quietly amused by the green's eventual decision to join her. Let it not be said that the blue female didn't know how to deal with the arrogant, better-than-thou types. No, not for me. To others I know it seems strange but being blue and being female is all I know. She paused briefly, letting the green absorb that knowledge, before adding, Though I am certain that the males get awfully confused. It makes things interesting initially. She actually somewhat liked the surprise she was usually met with when talking with someone for the first time. Individuals reacted in their own unique ways so it was always new.

They had a woman teaching them, well that explained a lot, Kyr'n supposed. Though Dy'shi had never struck him as someone who would be good at fighting anyway. Not that he could talk, Kyr'n scowled at the practice knife in his hand. He probably had less chance of surviving a fight than a tree climber. At least they could escape danger. On the positive side, he would know how to fix himself up afterwards, if he lived.
Kyr'n gave a shrug in response to Dy'shi's words and tried a few thrusts of his own with limited success. The other boy's mood seemed to have drop, however, and Kyr'n was mildly curious. He wasn't usually one to care, but he had so few people willing to talk with him that weren't Yeomenth or the infirmary staff. "Do you now?" he asked, indicating the practice blade. He didn't mean anything specific by it, mostly just noting that for someone who didn't care much for fighting, Dy'shi was sure trying hard now.
Yeomenth turned her head thoughtfully. Chakraith's response made sense. She only knew how to be a green and an amazing and talented one at that. She didn't know anything about being a bronze, though she was sure she could do better than some queens given a chance. She rumbled slightly in amusement at the picture of the bumbling males. It must be quite a sight. she agreed. She glanced over at the two humans for a moment. Honestly she couldn't think of much else to talk about, but not talking was boring. The least Chakraith could do was be entertaining. What of Yours? He must have some skills beyond this. Mine is a wonderful healer. Yeomenth purred proudly. Not that she'd tell the human her opinion, of course. She had to keep him under control.

Dy'shi tried very, very hard not to be a bit critical of Kyr'n's thrusts with the blade but he really was quite...unskilled. Not that he necessarily blamed a Healer for not knowing how to fight because that wasn't really what they were trained to do anyways. Still, it was hard not to notice that he'd improved under stricter, constant training than when he'd been a weyrling and could largely get away with avoiding it. The bluerider kind of wished he'd taken Tarra up on her offer to train him so long ago but he hadn't given it much thought then.
Kyr'n's question caught him off guard and he sighed faintly. Why not. "I do," he started, already wondering how to say what he wanted. He lifted the knife by the end of the hilt so the greenweyrling could see it in its entirety. "A friend gave this to me as a gift some time ago. She was killed and I decided I didn't want to lose anyone else. Better me than them." His almost careless disregard for himself when it came to those he cared about was what frequently had Chakraith gently nagging at him, among others who though he should stand up for himself more.
Speaking of which...he frowned faintly at the greenweyrling. "Y'know, I really can't figure you out. I get the whole grumpy Healer shtick - it's actually not all that original, by the way - but most of the time you seem to genuinely not care about anything concerning me. So...why ask? Why address me first?" Dy'shi paused, frown increasing more. "Usually I have to go chasing answers, not the other way around." Usually he wouldn't dig at things like that either but it was bothering him a bit too much to let go. Perhaps it was because if Kyr'n wasn't as cold as he always seemed then Dy'shi might actually have some hope.
Chakraith was secretly amused that she of all dragons had ended up essentially talking about boys with another female. A great many found her a touch too odd for regular conversations and even more thought of her more as male despite being distinctly female. Healing is a great profession, Chakraith said pleasantly, catching thr pride in the green's tone. Mine is not skilled when it comes to human Crafting but he is a good listener and very kind. She knew when she chose him that his strength did not lay in physical skills.

Kyr'n blinked at Dy'shi, frowning himself. The other Healers were always nagging him to actually get to know people more, so now that he tried it, he got questioned? Well that wasn't very encouraging. "I am simply curious," he shrugged, turning away. "Is that a crime?" He frowned down at the blade. It wasn't like he'd never talked to anyone. He'd known his classmates at the Hall fairly well, after all. At least, he thought he did. "I am sorry about your friend," he added, almost as an after thought. He contemplated the blade for a moment, thinking. Maybe he was growing soft. He'd gotten this far without many friends, hadn't he? In the end, people just weren't trustworthy.
Yeomenth gave a small snort. How...nice, she said, with false interest. Perhaps such a boy was good enough for Chakraith, but he didn't seem all that great to her. She eyed Dy'shi for a moment, contemplating interrupting the humans. Her Kyr'n could do better for friends, she thought. Still, she supposed he needed some people to support him, even one such as this. They seemed to get along, she went on, in a bored tone.

Dy'shi's face fell a little in dismay that he'd gotten such a reaction from Kyr'n. Had he sounded so...accusatory? He must have. Oops. "Sorry, no, it's just...y'know, a bit unusual?" He responded, sounding genuinely apologetic. Goodness, now he seemed like an ass! The bluerider's face fell a little bit further, into the kicked puppy look territory, at Kyr'n's apolog about his friend. Definitely an ass. "Thank you." The bluerider was a tuch busy searching for an adequate topic after that depressing note. He found it in the form of the two dragons apparently talking, drawing inspiration from them.
"How is weyrlinghood?" Which, okay, not what he really wanted to ask. He was very curious about how Kyr'n was 'coping' with having Impressed a female dragon given his reactions to Chakraith way back when he had first met the Healer. Unfortunately, Dy'shi didn't know the green's name so he couldn't directly ask about her. Sure Chakraith had mentioned her name as being Yeomenth but the blue wasn't positive on that score so he didn't want to risk saying the wrong name. That would not only be embarassing but a a bit rude by his own reckoning. "Your class has...M'ta as a Weyrlingmaster, right?" had to be right because Sel'n had been at Burimyu already and had been teaching the group that had Impressed while they were still exiles on the run.
Chakraith immediately sensed the disinterest in Hers and privately mentally sighed. She had been somewhat encouraging Hers to interact with Yeomenth's but now she was a little uncertain if it was such a healthy idea. She knew Dy'shi fed off of her emotions and opinions quite a bit and feared what may come about if Kyr'n did so with Yeomenth. Not that she majorly disliked the green but her opinions...no, she was not so fond of those. So it would seem, she agreed. If only temporary getting along, anyways. Does Yours get along with many? Because, hey, she was kind of curious about that.
