Yoalla much preferred the kitchens at night, in the daytime they were always bustling, although bustling didn’t go as far in Burimyu’s kitchens as it did in the kitchens at Selenitas. She was still somewhat in awe of the size of this place, Selenitas had been big enough, but the idea that there’d even been enough dragons to fill this place made Yoalla’s head spin when she thought about it. A nighttime kitchen, though, was a quiet, peaceful place, with no cooks to harry people, or catch them pilfering, and the banked fires didn’t give off enough light or heat to bother Yosk.
The green wher in question lay sprawled out on the floor in the middle of the room, and if she had a slightly guilt ridden look about her, and a trace of paranoid fear that at any moment someone would come in and just know that Yosk wasn’t supposed to be in here, well that was just part of Yosk.
Yoalla sat perched on a tabletop with the airy lack of concern of one who isn’t likely to be caught and reprimanded, with a loaf of bread and some cheese sat a short distance away from her, clearly cut by her rather than any kind of kitchen worker, the loaf showed a diagonal cut that meant the slice cut from it had been much thicker at one end than the other, and the cheese hadn’t fared much better. The resulting meal of bread and cheese was held in Yoalla’s hand but for the moment was being mostly ignored as the wherhandler stared off into the distance, trying to sort out her knowledge of this Weyr into the same kind of mental map she had for Selenitas and the surrounding territory. ‘I wonder if someone here actually has a map of the Weyr. Someone on that council should, don’t you think?’
Thought Yoalla’s comment wasn’t adsressed to her really Yosk gave a soft whuff of affirmation, she wasn’t entirely sure why drawings of the floor were so important, but if Yoalla thought they were, they must be, and if she thought the council should have one, then surely they did!

Swisk walked ahead of his handler sniffing at the ground much like a canine might when on the trail of some animal it was hunting - and Swisk was hunting. Though it was no animal he was after, no his prize was much more special than that. He could sense Yosk was near and so was Hers, he just had to find them. So Swithin followed behind the wraith Blue as he slipped through the deserted dining hall and into the equally empty kitchen.
Dark eyes shone with amusement as Swisk perked up and bounded forward to croon and nuzzle tenderly at Yosk once he set eyes on her. Swithin watched the whers for a moment before looking around and spotted Yoalla. "Good evening... Have enough to share?"
He flashed a charming grin as he closed the distance from the doorway to where she was perched. Not waiting for an invitation he hopped up and sat nearby on the table, looking over the beautiful Greenhandler with a smile on his face. "How is she handling the move?" He asked, nodding towards Yosk.
Swisk had moved to sprawl next to Yosk, nuzzling her softly and sending waves of adoration and reassurance to the younger Green.

Yosk’s head came up abruptly at the faint sounds of someone in the corridor and she shifted her legs a little, gathering them neatly at her sides rather than letting them sprawl out all over the place. However rather then the normal expression of gulit she tended to wear in the presence of, well, pretty much anyone, Yosk wore a look of expectation overlaid with nervousness. Swisk was coming, she could smell him. Yosk informed Yoalla of this very seriously, then turned an anxious look on her handler. She did look alright, didn’t she, not ugly? Yosk didn’t want to look ugly.
Yoalla gave a soft chuckle and silently assured Yosk that she looked beautiful, and with the arrival of Swisk, who promptly bounded across the room and began showering the green with affection, maybe Yosk would even believe that this time. Yoalla turned her attention to the handler, who was giving her a charming smile, despite herself Yoalla flashed an answering grin, it was hard not to like someone when Yosk reacted so positively to their wher.
‘I wasn’t planning on finishing the lot.’ Yoalla nodded at the bread and cheese set out on the table nearby. ‘I suggest cutting your own though, I don’t get along with bread knives.’ That statement was accompanied by a wave of Yoalla’s bread slice in the direction of the mutilated loaf, it didn’t really need more explaination than that.
The greenhandler found herself mildly annoyed that Swithin had come over to sit on her table, it really brought home the fact that she was over a foot shorter and she had to wonder if it was a qualification for male bluehanders to be incredibly tall. Swithin managed to instantly redeem himself by asking about Yosk, in the last four turns the green wher had become the absolute center of Yoalla’s life, and a very easy way to charm the handler was to show a positive interest in Yosk. ‘She finds it interesting, can’t wait to explore everything inside and out.’ Well providing no one disapproved of her anyway. ‘How’s Swisk finding things?’ Yoalla inquired, looking toward the sprawled whers.
Yosk’s eyes coloured up a pale pin, her version of a blush, and she turned her head away to keep Swisk from seeing. Stop. She instructed with a slight shove of her shoulder against Swisk’s bonier one. It wasn’t right that Yosk should be the recipient of so much affection. Nautsk was beautiful, had Swisk even met her yet? This inquiry was followed up with a clear image of Nautsk for his reference.

Oh he had seen Nautsk before, but he thought Yosk was far more beautiful in his eyes. Why couldn't she see that? He flashed an image to the Green wher of herself, the most beautiful wher in all of Pern as far as he was concerned. Then he leaned in and nuzzled her tenderly.
Swithin chuckled as Yoalla motioned to the butchered bread and cheese, slipping off the table he went to fetch a knife. Returning he set to work cutting himself a few slices of each as he listened, "Swisk is doing alright with it, not very excited though. He enjoys exploring, just has an uneasy feeling - can't pin point why though."
Taking the knife back to a sink he was soon next to Yoalla once more perched on her table, nibbling on his sandwich. "And how are you taking the move?" His tone was soft and sensitive, he knew he'd lost a lot in the quake and assumed she had as well. Last thing he really wanted to do was pour salt on still open wounds.

Yoalla’s mouth twitched into a half smile, she could tell from Yosk’s behaviour that Swisk was complementing her. Her green was never one to take a compliment without an attempt at deflecting it on to another wher, who in Yosk’s view would be so much more worthy. Yoalla had faith in Swisk though, he seemed so determined in every other area, determined enough to chase and win despite his frailness. He was the ideal wher to compliment Yosk.
‘At least they’re not really thrown off by the move.’ Yoalla commented, though she privately agreed that was a slightly creepy feeling about this place that she couldn’t put her finger on. ‘It’s amazingly big, so I don’t think they’ll be done exploring any time soon.’ She added as the other wherhandler began constructing a rather more professional meal than the one she was enjoying.
Yoalla gave a shrug that was supposed to indicate she didn’t know what to say, she valued her mindmates, not her possessions, and her few close friends had made it, so she’d lost nothing she valued. Other people were more attached to things, places and other other people than her and Yoalla was anxious not to seem cold in front of someone who’s company she wanted, even if that was just a reflection of Yosk’s desire for Swisk’s company. ‘I’m fairly glad not to be living in a camp at the top of the conyon anymore but I doubt we’ll get anything that will match our cave quarters here, but isn’t the stonework fascinating? This place has to have been made around the same time as the northern Weyrs, or maybe even earlier.’ Yoalla wasn’t normally one to get enthusiastic about the building work around her but the smooth stone walls never appeared in more recent structures.
Yosk’s eyelids sild closed to conceal the deep pink shade of her eyes and leaned over to rest her head against the blue’s shoulder. Well if Swisk was sure he didn’t prefer one of her beautiful sisters then she was happy to snuggle with him. Yosk couldn’t keep a note of pleasure out of her communication, her sisters got all the handsome whers, couldn’t Yosk keep just this one.

A soft croon came from the wraith like Blue as she leaned her head against him, eyes whirled slowly in the soft blues and greens of contentment. Yosk was perfect and beautiful, he was lucky to be in such good company. Another croon and nuzzle from the older wher as he snuggled with the younger Green before he glanced towards his handler. Yosk's was pretty too, was she not? Not as pretty as Yosk herself, but close. Swithin too was lucky for the company he was keeping.
Swithin grinned, agreeing silently with his wher. It'd been a long time since Swithin actively sought the company of another - however it seemed Swisk's fondness for Yosk was pushing him out and about more often.
"The camp was dreadful." Swithin said matter-o-factly with a nod. As she continued to talk about the smooth stone walls he smirked, agreeing with her. Having come from a hold that was mainly comprised of miners he appreciated anything that had to do with building and such - after all, even if they were not the main architects of it surely miners had a hand in it. "It is impressive, and the sizes of the apartments and weyrs are so large."
In the back of his mind he could sense Swisk adding that they were indeed large. Large enough for two whers and two handlers even. A pointed look was given in the Blue's direction for a moment before a roll of his dark eyes was given. Subtlety was definitely not Swisk's forte.
"The whole place is massive really... I don't even think the others had explored even half of it before we got here." Others side-stepped the whole 'exiles' issue, despite the merger there was still some bad blood between the former Burimyu inhabitants and some of the Selenitas refugees. Not much really, but enough to make things tense every so often when you had certain people in the same room with one another. Swithin however, did not feel a need to. He wasn't the reason the other riders had been chased from Selenitas. It had happened and no matter how many people tried to tip-toe around it, it didn't change its occurrence. Oh well. C'est la vie.
Before the conversation could continue any further the sound of wings could be heard - and shortly there after Dessa came into view. The green firelizard swooped around the two handlers before coming to land on Swithin's knee. Crooning to her bonded she looked over at Yoalla and began to preen, showing off for the woman to try and earn some compliments and admiration - two of the green's favorite things. The firelizard may be old - 7 turns older than Swisk - but she still showed like a young'un. True her color had faded slightly and her hide didn't quite have the same sheen some of the younger firelizards' did, but she was still beautiful - which she knew, but still liked hearing.

‘I’d say we’ll probably get shunted out of our apartments to make room for more important people but I honestly don’t think we’ll ever get enough weyrfolk to fill all of those rooms.’ Yoalla commented with a wry smile. Of course she considered room for whers very important but the council was comprised exclusively of dragonriders and they tended to woefully unconcerned about the smaller cousins of their beasts. ‘In fact it’s hard to imagine how many people it would take to fill this place to capacity.’
Yoalla nodded her agreement. ‘Well they’d have been too busy just surviving I suppose. Feeding even a few dragons without the support of the holds must have been a problem. Plus the problem of not having enough people. Exploring further was probably pretty low down the list. Luckily that leaves quite a bit for us to get on with.’ The greenhandler examined her last few sentences to check they hadn’t sounded monumentally silly, then frowned and sent a few soothing thoughts in Yosk’s direction to try and ease some of the paranoia that was drifting across their bond. Yosk was not silly, Yosk was not ugly, Swisk obviously liked her or he wouldn’t be curled up with her so would he?
The arrival of a green firelizard was a welcome interruption since it meant Yoalla didn’t have to try and battle Yosk’s transmitted nerves for further conversation. Instead she felt free to give the preening creature a gentle smile. Yoalla had to admit she liked firelizards and greens, well green was Yoalla’s colour, with the exception of Lao (who thought he was a green) every one of her bondeds was green. ‘Yours is she?’ The greenhandler inquired with a slight nod towards the preening firelizard and wriggled a finger at the green to see if she could get her to come over for a scratch.
Yosk blinked once, which involved opening her eyes twice, and wondered how hers could possibly tell what she was thinking so accurately, she hadn’t said anything. Once again though Yoalla was right, she couldn’t not be, that would be… wrong, and Yoalla wasn’t wrong. Therefore Swisk must like her, at least somewhat, or just be very kind. Slowly the green’s eyes lost their pink shades and picked up more cheerful colours and she hesitantly nudged the blue’s shoulder. Did Swisk and his maybe want to stay with around? They could go hunting later, or explore more of the Weyr together… Yosk offered the invitation nervously and without bothering to consult her handler. Of course Yoalla and Swithin would want to keep company if their whers did.

Dessa crooned softly when she noticed the woman had noticed her. Hopping over closer she leaned in and let herself be scratched - she loooooved scratches. Wings fluttered slightly and her eyes swirled a lovely shade of blue-green in contentment. Swithin just nodded at the question, "This is Dessa, she's been with me since before I came to the Weyr."
Did he and His want to stay around? Of course they did - did the Green really have to ask? Hunting and exploring? That sounded fun, even more so if it meant he could spend more time with the beautiful Yosk. Swisk nudged her back and his eyes swirled faster in his happiness - he didn't bother checking with Swithin either, but he knew by now His would be up for it.
Swithin glanced to the whers as they cuddled and nudged each other affectionately, chucking a bit, "They seem to get along just fine, eh?"
