Imp returned the strange look with an even stranger one of his own. She wanted the egg to explode? What was that all about. The bronze salamandyr’s face took on a distinctly offended look as Skink stuffed her muzzle into his egg but he didn’t comment, mostly because he was still trying to work out what Skink found so appealing about exploding things. Much noise, loud squealers are. Not worth trouble eggssss better than noise, better than much. Yes indeed, eggs took precedence over a great deal in Imp’s life, which was why he got back to the serious business of eating. Had to eat faster than Skink!
Darya’s nose wrinkled elegantly. ‘You actually want to live near the rabble?’ She asked incredulously. She wouldn’t want to live anywhere near her class. ‘You must be the target of so many pranks. Unless, like me, none of them have worked out where you live yet.’ Darya gave a short laugh and shook her head slightly. ‘Like I said I slipped by without omnipotence, or maybe it’s just an advantage and not a requirement.’ Obviously the days when Darya had really believed in omnipotence of various masters had passed by, there was nothing like joining the ranks of those you respected to bring home the fact that they were just as flawed as you.
‘Oh he won’t even try and hold her back.’ Darya replied, amused by the assumption. ‘He probably won’t join in but he won’t stop her either, not unless it’s by distraction. He’s too polite for his own good.’ The slight topic change had Darya focusing her gaze on the black desk so she didn’t start blushing. ‘Oh no, he likes greens as well as golds, he just infinitely prefers firelizards as company, possibly because they don’t expect any kind of commitment out of him.’ Darya was able to look up and smile crookedly at that. ‘There’s the slight advantage that my firelizard can easily influence him in that, but it’s got a downside too, like having to keep Imp with me unless I want to be suddenly dragged into some firelizard Flight. Fortunately he’s not a demanding creature to carry around.’ she added.
After a slight pause Darya sighed. ‘I hope you don’t think I’m trying to ditch you here but I really have to get some of that work I’ve been putting off together.’ Darya looked honestly regretful. ‘I need it for the next lesson. I just couldn’t settle to work with a need to apologise hanging over me.’ A finger stabbed at the candidate master. ‘You are to leave your office sometime and come and see me, or I’ll turn up here again. I know you were paying attention when I told where I was. I’ll try and send Skink back to you if she’s still with Imp when I find him.’ With a small wave Darya slipped out of the room, feeling decidedly more cheerful, apart from the vague worry of Imp being on the loose with Skink that was.
