Iskierka knew she was being ridiculous. Which meant she was being beyond ridiculous to most of the sane population, most likely. The bluerider was okay with that, though, if it meant finding out what the heck was going on with her niece. In theory she would have liked to at least see Sena fairly often despite the near opposite schedules. Iskierka was not as young as she used to be though and at the end of a long day of training she tended to just fall into bed and go straight to sleep. Part of the problem was the odd depressing feeling Rhino's passing had left her with that made her just feel tired so often for no reason. It was becoming easier with time but it was still...annoying.
Her concern over Sena's well-being as well as the fact that her niece had a boyfriend had kept the woman up that night and it was how she found herself lounging in a tree just outside one of the weyr exits. Iskierka knew well enough that the Handlers would be starting patrols soon enough and she could catch one of them on the way out. She could have made it easy on herself and just gone to talk to Eikane but she wasn't entirely sure what Sena's reaction would be if she caught Iskierka in the act. So weird shady night time adventure would have to do. It was by chance entirely that a greenhandler came out of the exit she was haunting.
The bluerider wasn't entirely surprised that she didn't know who the woman was. Traditionally dragonriders and wherhandlers didn't interact all that much. She really wouldn't have cared to talk to any before Sena impressed to one of the creatures. "Greenhandler," she called out from her tree, trying to moderate her voice not to sound threatening. "Mind if I accompany you on your patrols for a bit? If something kills me I swear I won't hold you accountable." Her tone drifted into a dry tone as she ended, swinging down from her branch.

Yoalla was not certain she could take the singing anymore. Everywhere she went, unless she spent a great deal of time impressing upon them why they should not, Lao and Eve surrounded her with song. The two firelizards were at least not tone deaf, in fact as far as Yoalla could tell (she was fairly tone deaf) the green and the bronze who though he was a green were skilled singers, winding their trillings and chirpings together in quite beautiful and fantastic ways. It was just that the constant and complex songs resulted in a pounding headache. That could be shifted with those vile potions Vivano brewed (and Yoalla felt sorry for his roommate it he made them in the rooms) but that really wasn’t the point, and besides, Yoalla hated to ask the bronze handler for anything, even though she still technically ranked him.
Yosk seemed fairly tired of it all too, and when the time came to patrol the pale green shook her harness on impatiently and shifted restlessly while Yoalla did up the buckles and settled into place on the green’s back. As soon as Yoalla was secure Yosk set out at the trot, eager to leave the Singing Firelizard Show far behind her, and for a while she did since the pair of them were using their lungs for singing rather than flying.
Company. Yosk warned silently, her muscles flexing slightly as she slowed to a careful walk. Waiting, dragon scented. The impressions of their observer came in enough time that Yoalla didn’t jump out of her skin and reach for a knife when a woman’s voice floated down to her. Of course, the very moment she opened her mouth to give the dragonrider an exasperated reply Lao and Eve popped in and drifted around the two women, trilling their little hearts out. Yoalla’s face twitched slightly before settling into a frown.
‘Ulterior motives, perhaps dragonrider?’ The greenhander inquired, looking down on the other woman from her advantageous position on Yosk, a reversal of roles indeed for the short wherhandler. She ignored the song of the firelizards for the moment. ‘No one cares what happens to the whers.’ Yoalla’s mouth twisted bitterly at the suspicision of what the day people thought of the wherhandlers and their beasts. ‘Follow us if you want, but if you get us killed I’ll haunt your weyr and force Yosk to do the same. Even worse I might make my pets do it. What would you prefer, poltergeist activity or eternal song?’ With that odd comment Yoalla gave Yosk a mental prod to move out, at a walk, and the firelizards a silent warning to shut the hell up or go away.

To say Iskierka made a face at the singing firelizards would be an understatement. In the darkness her face folded into something that could only be called confused disgust. Then the expression was gone even if her feelings weren't. Come on, really? Their noisy habits were a very good reason she never bothered to try and get one. Avoided them in fact. Besides, Gawain was likely to eat a baby anything at this point anyway. She was much too busy with wing drills and life to keep a constant eye on some little pet who wasn't already independent. "Do they always do that?" She asked, not quite keeping the contempt from her voice.
The bluerider tried very hard not to get paranoid about Yoalla's question. Really she did but she couldn't quite help taking that moment to analyse the intent behind it anyway. She did decide it was a pretty harmless question and her answer was a dry, "I care because my niece has one." Iskierka cracked a tiny amused grin at the greenhandler's threat. "I think I'd prefer the poltergeist stuff, thanks." She started walking when the wher did, long gait allowing her to keep up. That and the green was clearly moving at a pace that she would be able to keep up with. How very kind of them.
"So, I do have ulterior motives. How much do you know about the new wherlings?" She asked, testing the waters. She obviously didn't expect this random woman to know everything but the wherhandlers made up such a small group that surely they paid some attention to each other...right? "I am something of a paranoid sort and want to keep an eye on Sena without her knowing that I am. It's not like I can usually be up this late at night either." Iskierka figured offering some information as to why might get Yoalla to open up a bit and share anything she might know.

Clearly she’d encountered another non-fan of firelizard singing Yoalla thought as she saw the older woman’s face darken for a moment. ‘Lao normally doesn’t sing beyond the point it’s welcome, Eve seems to want to serenade everyone continuously. I really hope she gets over this stage.’ The greenhander’s sentence came out with slightly more exasperation than she’d intended, even though she found all the noise very tiresome she didn’t want everyone to know that. In fact make that everyone dayside, the wherhandlers probably already knew.
Oh, a family affair. Yoalla’s eyebrows quirked briefly in response to that thought, and she stared intently at the dragonrider, trying to work out which one of the wherlings she was related to. There seemed to be no totally obvious similar features, but then it wasn’t as if Yoalla had spent too much time staring at the wherlings. ‘Well if you get me killed I’ll come and fling your stuff around, then. Assuming you don’t get yourself killed at the same time that is. We’ve got something very nasty further out into the jungle so I’m only partially joking.’ Yoalla’s body gave a convulsive shudder that seemed to transmit itself down to Yosk since the pale wher also shivered.
Yoalla offered a half smile at the mention of the previously admitted ulterior motives. ‘Well, I can’t say I have a great deal of contact with the wherling class on a day to day basis, I’m not a teacher or anything, just a working watch handler. I’m Yoalla, in case you want to get my attention later, and this is Yosk.’ Yosk took Yoalla’s affectionate pat to be her cue to add a soft whuff to the conversation and turn her head to give the dragonrider a slightly apologetic glance. ‘Maybe you can just tell me which one your neice is and I can give you the relevant gossip? I couldn’t guess.’
