Eikane had most definitely taken the day off. It was the one day a week he could justify getting rid of the wherlings and he'd been doing non-stop paperwork and meetings and what the heck ever since the weird creature attack. He felt the loss of Darmori and Ceryl, really he did, but he really just wanted a day to himself and Nautic. That his lover had been out there in the danger and he couldn't do a thing about it...the man felt a shudder pass up his spine and glanced over at his weyrmate to see him still sleeping. Which just made Eikane wonder how early it was. Eikask sleepily informed him that his loud mind was waking her up at Far Too Early but that wasn't exactly helpful.
The goldhandler laid in bed, blearily blinking away sleep as he considered the night. He was determined to spend it with Nautic and was not above abusing both Whermaster and Councilman privledges to make sure his weyrmate saw the value in that rather than traipsing about the jungle for one night. Someone else could take his shift, have a taste of being the cadre for once. You see, Eikane liked to test out various potentials, see who fit what role best. If that goal happened to coincide with his own personal ones...well, all to the better, right? He felt Nocturne stirring in his mind and curiously prodded at the sleepy mind. The blue responded with a slightly unpleasant and yet simultaneously polite, Dequiet, g'way.
Yep, about as polite as Nocturne got when telling him to stop thinking so much and do what he wanted. Fine. The goldhandler sighed and rolled onto his side facing Nautic. "Wake up, sleeping beauty," he coaxed in a sleep-roughened voice. Eikane proceeded to start raining little kisses down on his weyrmate's exposed collarbone and neck, nuzzling occasionally. With a devious smile against Nautic's neck, the man raised a cold hand to the back of the greenhandler's neck . He raised his voice just a bit and commented, almost idly, "If you don't wake up quicker I'm not going to be so gentle about it anymore. I wonder how the floor feels at this time of day?"

The voice of his Weyrmate roused him only enough to make him roll over and cuddle into the warmth that was Eikane. He'd not taken a break from the Watch since the whole fiasco with the carnivorous goatthings. Words like tired or exhausted didn't apply to Nautic, he'd been in limbo up until last night, having fallen into bed with the expectation of sleeping in. But sleeping in didn't seem to be on the menu. When Eikane started on his neck the Greenhandler made little sounds of protest, unknowingly mimicking the sentiments of his Love's mindmates. "Uuhhh!" The cold hand caused Nautic to squash himself further against the other man in hopes to escape the chill. "Meeaan...niiee. It feels... eaarrllyy." The words were spoken somewhere between a whine and a groan though the cold had some of its intended effect, his eyes were now cracked open. "Floor..." He yawned. "Depends on what... we're doing."
Reaching up, the Greenhandler rubbed the sleep from his eyes with another yawn. "Whaaaahymhisit?" Which when translated into Pernese meant 'What time is it?' Since his hands were already by his face, Nautic pushed them up higher into a stretch. From his various other partners there was a noticeable shift in their sleep, though all of them remained trapped in their dreams. Especially Vain, who he was particularly relieved to see hadn't woken up yet. Like a zombie Nautic sat up, though even with his half foggy mind, managed to keep most of his body under the furs... where it was warm... and where there was the alluring promise of possibly going back to sleep.
"'Morning love." The handler paused as he itched his arm. "Mmm... don't you have lessons today? I'm not part of them right?" The look on his face was more comical than anything. "Is that why we're up and not sleeping in? I dunnwanna." A morning person in the winter? Nautic? If ovines could only fly. Nautic took this chance to flop across Eikane, curling up so his head rested on one of his Weyrmate's legs. He didn't want to get up and his stubbornness was showing.

Eikane chuckled at Nautic's initial reaction and a smile stayed plastered to his face throughout the whole exchange. The cold hand definitely had it's intended effect on his weyrmate and the smile broadened into the "shit-disturbing" category. "It is early," he informed the other man - he still wasn't exactly sure how early but details so weren't important anyways, right? - and pulled his cold hand away from Nautic's neck. "Early enough that the floor is decided unpleasant since it wouldn't be used for anything fun and all the bothersome mind-mate-y things are thoroughly asleep." At least he hoped so. Eikask and Nocturne were beginning to stir some, the former because his busy thoughts had been disturbing her and the latter because...well, he didn't really know.
Thankfully, Eikane was well versed in Nautic-lish and expertly deciphered what it was the greenhandler had been trying to say. "I honestly don't know just how early it is, sun's probably just going down if I had to guess." Since that was about the equivalent of the sun coming up in wherhandler terms, it was Pretty Damn Early. Eikane watched his weyrmate with a fondly amused smile, leaning forward to kiss Nautic's forehead when he sat up. Sleepy Nautic was just about the cutest type of Nautic ever by Eikane's books so he was already really enjoying the morning. The goal, then, was to make Nautic enjoy the rest of the day.
He chuckled again at Nautic's complaint about being involved in lessons and subsequent flop on him. "Nah, no lessons today. It's their day off today...which mean's it's my day off too and also yours. I mean theo- er...technically we could sleep in but then we'd have to suffer a million and one whers, firelizards, and salamandyrs interrupting our date..." Eikane said consideringly before adding, for good measure, "But if you don't want to..." Chances were that Nautic would take the bait. Hopefully.

Groan. Not even sunset? Not fair. Flipping over so he could actually look at Eikane, Nautic yawned again though this time he ended it with a smile. "Oooh~ that's nice." The Greenhandler curled and uncurled his hands so he could stretch his fingers. "I bet the littles will like that. And you need a break, being Whermaster is hard. Seems like it to me at least." He purposely skipped over mentioning the fact he too was getting a day off even though he was happy to hear about it. Nautic complained to his Weyrmate all the time, though mainly about petty things, but recently everyone had been so on edge he'd cut back almost all complaints. He didn't think it was fair to chatter to Eikane about how tense and difficult it was out there on watch since he himself was dealing with a full plate. Between the Wherlings and the council, he seemed much to busy to bother with small things. So Nautic ended up complaining to Emitre and Dilena whenever Eri needed a break, which was fine enough even though they couldn't understand a word he was saying.
But when Eikane said 'date', it was as if the Goldhandler had cast some sort of spell. For Nautic was almost immediately kneeling next to him with his hands on the bed for stability. There wasn't a saying more accurate to describe the young man than 'bright eyed and bushy tailed'. "A date!" They hadn't been on a real, honest to goodness date in a while, being senior wherhandlers and all. "Why didn't you say something sooner!" His smile had turned into a grin. Leaning over he gave his Weyrmate a kiss before happily scooting off their bed (and into his slippers) before flitting off to their bathingroom to wash his face and take care of other morning businesses.
He returned a few minutes later still humming the same jaunty tune, trotting over to Nautsk who had mostly woken up to Her's happiness. Crouching to rub her eyeridges and wish her a goodmorning, the handler happily coaxed the little Green back into dozing off for a little longer. She deserved the rest. Mentally he checked on Vain and Absinthe, they were still sleeping despite his sudden turn of mood. "Oh happiness." Nautic returned to the bed, though this time he happily perched himself on Eikane's side. "Do we have plans or are we going to go with the flow? As long as I get to spend time with you I don't care what we do!"

Eikane had most definitely caught a Nautic hook, line, and sinker. His weyrmate was oh so predictable and all the more loveable for it. Nautic himself could sometimes seem erratic but it wasn't hard anymore to predict the other man's actions. It also wasn't hard to figure out what the greenhandler had been hinting at of late. Kids. He probably should have seen it coming ages ago, really. Especially when Dmitri had his own brats. It was something he hoped to address at some point during their date night. He actually had a lot of plans for that night.
"Because you were too busy complaining about the morning," he responded dryly, accepting the quick kiss before watching Nautic bounce off to the washroom. While his weyrmate went about taking care of morning hygenics, Eikane decided to get changed into his best shirt and almost-too-tight pants. Glancing in the mirror he smiled in satisfaction. Well didn't he just look especially delicious today? Well, clothing-wise anyways. His hair was something of a mess still and he would need to shave a bit. Otherwise, though, he was rather pleased with himself.
He heard Nautic come out of the bathroom again as he set his hand harp case on the bed and watched Nautic move about. "Oh I have a couple plans," Eikane commented teasingly, "but you'll have to just wait and see what they are. I'm going to go-" He waved towards the washroom door then, still smiling a bit. "Yeah. So just hold on a moment." In short order the goldhandler had his hair tamed and his teeth brushed and was back out in the main room. "Alrighty, how about breakfast, to start?"

"Okay." As Eikane walked away the goldhandler got a quiet wolfwhistle in appreciation, before the whistler himself bounced off the bed and went over to the wardrobe. Nautic was never one for needlessly puttering over what clothes he should wear, because face it, all his outfits were awesome. Maroon pants, a white tunic and a ash grey wherhide vest were all chosen quickly and put on just as fast. The greenhander had finished tucking in his shirt and was cinching down his belt when Eikane came back from the bathingroom. "Mmm... breakfast sounds good." Slipping the excess end into a belt loop, Nautic sat down on a near by chair to pull on his boots and put up his hair. In the winter, he let it grow long enough so that if he pulled it back it could make the littlest runnertail.
"So..." He stood up and walked over to Eikane. "To the dinning area? Unless of course we'll be inviting the hoarde...?" He'd rather have Eikane all to himself but he couldn't deny the connections either of them had to their mindmates. "Though I think it would be nice to let them sleep a little longer." Reaching up Nautic brushed a small stray ball of fluff off of Eikane's shirt, though he let his fingers trail down the other man's arm until he linked hands with him.
"And are these 'couple of plans' secret? Or do I get to know about them before hand?" Either way, Nautic didn't really care because... they get to go on a date! Honestly, one of the best ways to wake up in the morning. The only thing better was well, being woken up for other fun things. Pressing happily up against Eikane he took a second to enjoy the moment before tugging him gently in the direction of the door.

Eikane smirked - actually honest to goodness smirked - at his weyrmate, shooting him a quick wink as well before leaving Nautic to dress himself. His man was a smart dresser so the goldhandler looked forward to just about any outfit his partner decided to wear. He was pleasantly unsurprised by the outfit Nautic had chosen when he emerged. He smiled lovingly at the greenhandler, watching in fond amusement as Nautic tied up his hair. Eikane thought the itty bitty runnertail his weyrmate put it in was absolutely adorable. Not that he'd be admitting as much any time soon, but there it was.
The goldhandler smiled when Nautic agreed with the first item on the day's agenda. "I agree, let's let them sleep." Because he wanted his mate all to himself and that one firelizard...yeah, no. "So yes, to the dining area." Eikane blinked mildly as Nautic groomed his shirt and then broke out in a bright smile at the hand holding. He brought Nautic and His entwined hands up to kiss his weyrmate's hand. Buh. He was such a sappy romantic, apparently. A couple of turns ago he never would have thought he'd be quite as happy with someone as he was with Nautic. Which made that day extra special.
"Hmm, you get to know snippets of them?" Eikane answered sneakily. "I'll tell you on the way." The man hummed softly once when Nautic snuggled up against him before letting his weyrmate pull him out the door. "Okay so, first stop is obviously food. After that I was thinking we could go out to the river and I could play for you. The rest of the night I only have loose plans for because I figure the mind leeches will be awake by then." Which, hey, was true but left out a lot of little details. Like he planned to play for Nautic at the river and then ask him to marry him. Surprises were fun though.

"That sounds lovely. Oh! Oh wait..." Nautic chuckled at himself. "I was about to say the flowers around here are starting to bloom. But we won't be able to see them, since they should be closing for the night." He gently bopped himself on the head with a grin. "I'll just collect some tomorrow in the day so you can see them! They're not the colorful ones though, just meadow flowers, but still." Resting his head momentarily against Eikane's arm as they walked, Nautic listened to the sounds of Burimyu settling down for the night. This of course was mixed in with the soft clicking of their heels on stone and the scurrying of little critters waking up for their nocturnal activities. When he had first become a Wherhandler, despite having the utmost love and adoration for his Wher, hadn't really wanted to trade Rukbat for the two moons. And he still hadn't totally given up the Daytime, he still worked in the creche occasionally and helped his mother in the kitchens. But now, after a few turns, the Greenhandler had really grown to love the night (except in the dead of winter where he sometimes froze his ass off).
"I wonder what they made us for Breakfast. I hope they added eggs this time. I mean, I love flatcakes but their syrup is much to sugary." He put a crooked finger up to his mouth in thought. "I think the last time I had their Syrup I bounced off the walls." That of course was an exaggeration, but it conveyed his point. "Oh! They could scramble the egg yokes and dip the flatcakes in them, then heat them on a pan. I wonder if they'll try it if I ask them." If his Mom was working, he knew she'd do it, and maybe Mae if she was there. "Though I do kinda feel like porridge with a smidgen of honey... heruumm... I guess I'll just find out when I get there." In general, Nautic wasn't a picky eater, but some days he turned a bit peckish. "Too bad everything but winter berries are out of season." Mmm. Strawberries.
Every so often he'd wave at a passerby, generally drudges but occasionally they'd be riders, though he politely side-step a conversation in favor of eating. It wasn't long before they got to the dining hall, there were people randomly scattered through the area. "Looks like we just beat the dinner rush. Good. There are always long lines when the Daytimers eat." He remained next to his Weyrmate until they got with in feet of the serving area, where he promptly let go of his hand and paced down the line, trying to spot exactly what they had to pick from. Returning with a smile Nautic picked up a plate hand sighed happily. "Looks like there are left overs from the Rider's dinner and they're just setting out our breakfast supplements. I saw eggs!" He paused and waved at someone behind Eikane. "Mom! Hey mom, do you think you could make me that egg toast thing I like?" Stepping aside so that Eikane could get his food first if he wanted, the Handler waited for his mother to put down the pitcher of juice she was carrying to give her a hug.
