M'gnum sat in the mid-sized hot spring, the hot steam emerging from the bubbling pool keeping his snow-covered surroundings from freezing his exposed head and shoulders. He rubbed the healing cut on his chest from a few days ago... the stitches had been removed, and it was healing well, as expected. Suddenly, a large greenish-bronzed head emerged from the water near him, and swirling blue eyes caught his as he heard Higginth speak into his mind. "M'gnummine, you should speak to that Caden girl, the Junior Weyrwoman... I've asked around, and I know Nitrath will have her maiden Flight soon enough. Knowing your... issues... regarding the simple act of mating, with all of your 'lady' this and 'honor' that, I figured I would be polite and attempt to help you get to know the girl so that when you mate with her after I catch Nitrath, it won't be as awkward for you."
M'gnum narrowed his eyes at his bronze, and said, "If you're so desperate to mate, Higginth, there are plenty of green Flights you could participate in." At this, the bronze reared his head back a bit, his powerful wings emerging from the water momentarily as he flared them, and he responded haughtily, "GREENflights? For a bronze? You know better than to suggest such things, M'gnunmine. A bronze such as myself is worth only golds, not simple, mark-a-dozen greens." He then snorted derisively, spraying a cloud of warm mist from the water at M'gnum's face, and retracted his wings. M'gnum smiled good-naturedly and responded, "It seems, my friend, I'm not the only one with 'issues' when it comes to mating."
So involved was he with the discussion with his bronze, he didn't notice any other arrivals to the springs until they had already disrobed and settled in at a nearby pool, connected to his pool by a small channel that cut through the snowy mountaintop.

They didn't go to the hot springs.
It was this, more than anything else, that alerted him to the fact that his Elysia was most definitely up to something. It could be anything from a little petting to full-on sex in public, knowing her, or possibly it had something to do with the belated request she'd made for a turnday gift. The greenrider loved claiming him in any way she could. He was surprisingly okay with it. (That said, he knew he'd gotten her a turnday gift, even if he couldn't quite remember what it was. It wasn't like him to...oh yes. He had. He remembered now. Well, that was fine. If he'd really been opposed to it, it wouldn't have happened.)
S'rei slid off Onyth - Salenth was pleasantly snoozing at the moment and had worked hard enough with his wing today to deserve the break - and offered Elysia a hand down without thought. It wasn't like she needed it. "So, are you going to tell me what the scheme is now?" he murmured into her ear as they made their way across to an empty pool, the bronzerider, at least, not paying much attention to the occupant in the pool adjacent.
He stripped out of his clothes, being a touch extra cautious when his hands strayed near the recent piercings. Apparently she'd gotten the idea after seeing M'ta shirtless. S'rei wouldn't have thought of it himself, but...it didn't bug him. Other than being sore. Slipping into the water he helped Elysia down with him as well and sunk down with a contented sigh. It was pretty nice. S'rei just didn't trust his weyrmate to be on her best behavior.

M'gnum heard the splash as S'rei entered the water of the pool adjacent to his own, and glanced over to spot his fellow bronzerider and his weyrmate entering the pool. He wasn't exactly a personal fan of S'rei after his actions back during M'gnum's time in Fort, but he respected the man professionally, and he supported his desire for peaceful negotiations and alliances with the other Weyrs.
He sat for a while in the waters, watching them out of the corner of his eyes, and when they didn't seem to react negatively to his presence or begin doing private things he would rather not be witness to, M'gnum decided it would only be appropriate to go and greet his fellow bronzer. Wading through the water, he reached the small channel connecting his pool with that of the couple's, and swam through it carefully, surfacing in the other pool. Higginth remained in the first pool, not wanting to lose his heat transferring between the two, since the channel was much too small for his bulk, requiring him to remove himself from the hot water into the cool air in order to transfer. He did, however, send a polite, professional greeting towards Onyth, nodding his head in welcome before dipping himself down low once more, leaving only the top of his head lying on a warm rock by the pool's edge, sedate green eyes watching His languidly.
Wading over close enough that he wouldn't have to yell, M'gnum waved warmly, only a quirk in one eyebrow betraying his notice of the obviously new nipple piercings sported by S'rei. Settling his back against the warm stones, M'gnum said, "Hello, S'rei. Decided to take some time to relax a bit like me and Higginth did, hmm? Certainly seems like us old guard have quite a bit to keep us busy these days, doesn't it?" Bowing a bit in Elysia's direction, he gave her a curt, "Greetings to you as well, m'lady," before settling back to give S'rei his attention once more... it's not that he didn't like Elysia, it was simply that she always seemed a bit... unhappy... with him, and he was trying to both not ignore her, yet not give her ammunition to verbally assault him with.

Oh Elysia was aware that her request to go to the hot springs had S’rei curious. She could see it in his eyes, the debate over what she really wanted other then possible relaxation and hot water. Of course they could just bathe in the warm waters of their own bathing pool. But then she couldn’t claim S’rei in public. Which had become almost like a need as the weeks past. Not only because the possibility of getting caught would make it amazing but because she almost wanted to be caught. The woman was prone to leaving marks on the bronzer when they made love. All in the hopes that people would see it and know. Hers. To say Elysia was overly possessive at times would not be wrong. She was also a jealous creature. Faranth help the woman who even tried while he was still hers. Another plus to this spot? People could see the new piercings he sported. Just for her. Yeah that’s right. Again. Hers. See how she owned him?
These thoughts where the main ones on her mind as Onyth descended through the steam towards the hot pools of water. As the green touched down near the snowline she crouched and waited for her passengers to dismount, her whirling eyes coloring with amusement as S’rei offered hers a hand. And it was highly amusing. At the beginning of their relationship hers would have outright refused the gesture. Possibly with some curt comment as Elysia dismounted herself. Now however she took the bronzer’s offered hand with a small, almost awkward, smile and allowed him to help her down. The greenrider was not used to being treated like a lady and anything even basely romantic, that was not solely sexual in nature, caused her to get a little anxious. That didn’t mean she didn’t appreciate it however. It was just an odd feeling.
As they started towards the pools and her weyrmate murmured into her ear Elysia wrinkled her nose and bumped her hip into his before replying coyly. “Me? A scheme? Angel you wound me with your suspicions. Can’t I just spend some relaxing time with my weyrmate without the third degree?” As she spoke she slowly and sensually shed her clothes, the corners of her lips twitching upwards in an amused smile as the bronzer carefully removed his shirt. Faranth they made his chest look even nicer. In her not so humble opinion anyway. Kicking her clothes into a haphazard pile the greenrider bounced after her weyrmate and accepted his hand before slipping into the water. With a long sigh she stretched feline like and sank down into the water next to him with a contented purr. Damn but the hot water did feel nice after her morning drills.
Even so it was only a moment before Elysia’s hand flitted across S’rei’s abs as she leaned towards him. One of her legs hooked around his as she leaned more into his chest, being careful of his nipples, as she nipped at his jaw. “So.” A finger traced carefully around one of the bronzer's new piercings. “You getting hot yet.” Dark eyes half lidded as her lips moved to his ear.
Onyth was curled up on the warm rocks near the pool her riders were lounging in. (Yes her riders. S’rei belonged to hers which made him hers as well by proxy.) Observant by nature the dark colored and battle scarred green couldn’t help but notice the other occupants in the pools. One pair in particular, especially since the bronze was so demonstrative. The topic caused the green’s eyes to whirl thoughtfully before she noticed the bronze’s rider move and she brushed against her bonded’s mind in light warning her tail tip twitching to dip briefly into their spring pool. Minelove I know you are….busy. But you will have company soon. It was about then that Higginth dipped his head in a cool professional greeting and the female’s eyes whirled faster, a brief thread of orange whirling through her pleasant greens before she responded.
No matter who she spoke to Onyth was always polite and pleasant in her greetings. In her mind it was common courtesy and showed respect. She even greeted Kyrahth with a fair skies at least. That the same was not offered her in return was, in her mind, simply disrespectful. Not that she expected anything less from the bronze after overhearing their little conversation. Fair skies. Higginth. Should I be honored that you’d lower yourself to speak to one of my shade? She asked with almost poisonous sweetness looping only her two riders in on the conversation as well. (Salenth spoke to hers. So why should she not show the same respect to S’rei?) Her tail twitched over the surface of the pool her rider was in, and Elysia glanced in her dragon’s direction. As an aside? I find matters of mating much like hunting. Some like to hunt out. Track wild prey. Rejoice in the thrill of the hunt. The pleasure of catching a creature which is both crafty and difficult. And then there are some who prefer to hunt straight from the pens. Feast on the lazy, sedate, unchallenging, and stupid. You are obviously the latter. With that Onyth dipped her head and started to clean her sharpened talons playing Higginth no more attention then she might a rock.
M’gnum should be grateful for the advance warning from Onyth. Elysia would have reacted far worse had she not had that warning. As it was she still stiffened against S’rei, pulling slightly away from him as her dark eyes narrowed just a touch on the other bronzer, her whole body going tense. Onyth’s irritation only reinforced the woman’s reaction as the dragon spoke to the man’s bronze. It was these types of bronzers that she hated. The only physical clue to Elysia’s flare of anger was the sudden flare of her nostrils. Sure S’rei got a warm greeting. He even got the honor of having his name used before the M’gnum went on to engage him in conversation. And then finally she was greeted. Without even the courtesy of her name being used, as an afterthought. The Fortian bronzerider didn’t have to speak to give the woman ammunition. He had given her far more then enough in his obvious dismissive treatment of her.
“I’m afraid I can’t say it’s a pleasure bronzer.” Elysia returned simply. “Do you often insert yourself in private situations or was this just a happy accident?”

Higginth's eyes swirled orange in confusion at the green's response... he was sure he was only speaking to His, not broadcasting. If she had only heard His speaking out loud, what was the cause of her reaction? She seemed overly offended by his mating preferences, as if they bled through to his treatment of her as a whole. "Why would I not speak to 'your color', dear Onyth? We all have our part when Thread falls, and greens and blues are an essential part of that. If bronzes did not speak to them, the Wings as a whole would fall apart due to lack of communications." The orange swirled into a bit of an orangish-red of irritation at the rest of her response, and he curtly responded, "I do not know how my mating preferences affect you. There are plenty of blues and overzealous bronzes who are glad to Chase you. Why waste my energy in a contest of agility and maneuverability I am not built for? It would make as much sense for me to Chase a wher across the jungle floor as the branches ripped at my wings." After saying his part, he continued to relax on his rock, ignoring the green just as much as she was ignoring him.
As for M'gnum, he sighed a bit at Elysia's response... he should have known he wouldn't have gotten away with a normal conversation with such a harpy of a woman nearby. "I know you do not like me for reasons I have never understood, Lady Elysia, and I apologize if my presence offends you. I merely wished to speak to my fellow bronzerider while the opportunity presented itself, since both of us are quite busy normally. It did not seem as if you were participating in anything particularly private before I approached, but if you and S'rei wish to be left to your business, whatever that business may be, I shall respect your wishes." He made sure to catch S'rei's eye as he made his final statement, so he would realize he was asking both of them, not just Elysia, whether they wanted him to leave them alone.

"Suspicions, are they?" His only response to her comment, though response enough despite the predominantly neutral tone. (S'rei couldn't really help but be amused, and he knew that it showed, if only subtly.) Fortunately they had discussed what he would and wouldn't allow at the springs. S'rei was hardly born yesterday. And, just as naturally, Elysia chose to start pushing those boundaries from the outset. He glanced sidelong at her and smirked slightly, slipping an arm around her waist. "Mhm. The water is quite warm."
That was when Onyth started feeding him her part of a decidedly strange conversation she was having with Higginth, given he hadn't been privy to what had led up to it nor was she relaying the bronze's responses. At least not yet. S'rei tilted his head to one side, still a bit unused to another dragon sharing with him like that. Speaking to him, well, it happened on rare occasion but it happened. Sharing was a bit more intimate and even Salenth didn't do that with any but His. Not directly.
Elysia's stiffening alerted him to M'gnum's presence, but it still didn't prepare him for the oddity of the situation. S'rei's arm loosened slightly to allow the greenrider to pull a bit away from him. (For wanting her claim to be public, she shied away pretty quickly from anything too intimate whenever someone addressed them directly. Actually...some people still didn't know they were weyrmated. Unusual with a rumor grapevine as thorough as Selenitas'.) At any rate, S'rei found himself at something of a loss as Elysia predictably bristled. She wasn't exactly fond of bronzeriders, and that was hardly a secret. It wasn't her response that had stayed his tongue (rather, it impressed upon him that he probably should speak before this degenerated any further) but rather the surreal nature of being approached and spoken to so casually by another bronzerider while nude with his weyrmate in a semi-private pool. Hm. Did M'gnum need something?
Probably should head this off. The man's response was likely to set off Elysia just by the wording (as if being a bronzerider wasn't enough for that). "I imagine the fact that you're a Fortian would be reason enough for most Benden natives to dislike you," S'rei commented mildly, with a flash of a smile that gentled the comment. Trying to ease the tension, clearly. His arm tightened around Elysia again to snug her into his side. "To be fair, these are public hot springs." Even if most people probably wouldn't approach a couple off on their own anyway. Maybe M'gnum was another who didn't know their status?
"We did come to relax." Emphasis on we. "I take it there's something you wished to address and haven't had the opportunity to?" His words seemed to suggest as much. And it made a lot more sense in that context than simply a random greeting would have. "Which reminds me, I've been meaning to get in contact with all the wingleaders regarding our next move, but the day-to-day duties of managing a Weyr and a wing keep interfering. That and I fear I'm beginning to go senile," he added, as another mild joke. "Is there something I can help you with specifically?"

The big bronze wondered how the dragons did it. He was used to having feeding pens provide all his nutritional needs for him. He could hunt...he would even say he was good at it, but being able to pick your meals up from the comfort of your own home was convenient, not to mention, it was difficult to prowl the jungle for meals when you were as big as he was. Even some greens would have difficulties in the jungle...and then came the matter of being able to secure enough food to fill one's belly. Everything was so small compared to a dragon, nothing got as big as the animals that the weyr raised for them.
He was returning from hunting when he caught wind of an intriguing presence. He hadn't actually spent much time with the dark green, but Onyth was always an intriguing presence for the bronze. Thrusting his wings, the big bronze took off in that direction, spiraling above in silent contemplation as he watched the interactions between humans and dragons and dragons and dragons. He hadn't caught whatever it was that had offended Onyth, but obviously there was something. He couldn't even hear the exchange between Higginth and Onyth, but something about the other bronze didn't sit right with the coppery male. He couldn't decide what it was. Higginth had always been outwardly pleasant with him.
Now Rom had a choice to make. Spiral down and see what was going on, or go back and inform K'ian of this interesting development. Hm. Why not do both? Stretching his bond, he found the mind of his rider with much ease. He had been sleeping. K'ianmine. Onyth's and Salenth's are here talking to Higginth's. Would you like me to come get you to say hellp? He could sense his rider groaning and sighed mentally. Lazy bum. he thought to himself silently as K'ian uttered an unintelligible grunt. Well. That didn't work out so well. Deciding that even an ill-tempered green would make better company than his grumpy rider, he spiraled down, using the currents coming off the hot springs to aid him in his descent.
Onyth! Higginth! What a pleasure! He greeted them cheerily. It was obvious there was some tension between the pair of them, judging by the way they seemed to be ignoring each other. Landing on some toasty rocks near Onyth, he tilted his head in her direction. Ah, dear Onyth. As absolutely ravishing as ever. It's a pity Salenth has you claimed. He was only joking. As evidence by the slight chuckle that followed those words. He had always wanted to chase Onyth, but she never broadcasted her flights. He just assumed it was because she and Salenth always had private flights. Ah well. K'ian finally took notice and piped in. The hell, Rom? Are you actually talking to them? Not all of use decide that sleeping all day is better than being friendly and social. That was all the response K'ian got before Romeoth shuffled his wings somewhat, settling down like a cat and looking between the two dragons. What did I miss? I always miss the good stuff. Tail flicked on the rock behind him before curling elegantly around a haunch.

Ah small brain. Obviously he did not get the intent of her first comment. Not that Onyth was really all that surprised. To his latter comment she didn’t respond either. She was a wher now was she? Well then. Apparently she was very far beneath the lazy one wasn’t she? While the green herself had no problems with whers she was well aware of how most dragons felt about them. That was that then. Higginth warranted no more attention negative or positive from her. It was no great loss. She had better things to do. Like pay attention to hers so that she could help the woman escape if she needed to. A sudden greeting had Onyth pausing in her washing however and her head snaked around so that she could watch Romeoth land.
And yet another bronze one. He at least offered her a suitable greeting. Hello Romeoth. I trust you and yours are well? She greeted amiably, her eyes whilring just a touch faster in response to his flirtatious comment. Thought her ravishing did he? Even mentioned her mate. While the bronze’s tone clearly reflected that he was teasing about at least part of the comment Onyth herself found it rather interesting. Teasing or not, to mention it must mean at least part of it was in the realm of truth no? Besides there was no getting around the fact that his rider, at least, found hers attractive. Romeoth himself even participated in many a green flight and did so with dedication.
Hmm perhaps another challenge for Salenth? Not that Onyth would ever mate away from him without good reason or being force caught by another, but it could make things more fun in the long run. The green was quite attached to her bronze, but that didn’t mean she didn’t like to challenge him in her flights. She liked it when Salenth had to work for her. Thus why she never turned those away who chose to pursue her anyway, even though she always allowed only Salenth to actually catch. She trusted that her bronze was the best and he proved it through flight. Not many bronzes could boast that they could fly well enough to actually catch a green. Ah yes. He is quite good at what he does my Salenth. The dark green purred. Though, don’t let that stop you from trying if you wish dear Romeoth. He likes a good challenge. As do I. And that was all the invitation he was getting from her on that matter. She let her words carry to all but the humans as she spoke. Granted she knew Higginth would ignore them, but that was fine. Romeoth was far more interesting at the moment anyway.
~~~~
Elysia’s eyes further narrowed on M’gnum. Oh was he seeking to placate her now? Well he was doing a piss poor job of it. If anything he sounded like he was just humoring her. Yeah now he remembered her name. Even if he had to put a ridiculous flowery title in front of it. What was wrong with just Elysia? Did she look like a some hold lady? Besides that did he honestly expect her to believe that he hadn’t seen her already half in S’rei’s lap? It was safe to say that the woman was more then a just little irritated. “Yes actually you could do me a huge favor by getting lost. You must be blind really.” The greenrider snapped, her tone doing nothing to disguise her displeasure with the whole situation. Really did he need further verbal clarification? Well if he did she could sure give it to him.
In fact Elysia had just opened her mouth to make another nasty retort when S’rei cut her off. Dark eyes briefly narrowed on her weyrmate then, though she didn’t offer any words to him yet. Instead she fumed silently at him. Interrupting her was he? Though if she was being honest with herself, part of her actually was slightly grateful for his offer of an explanation to M’gnum. Yes, let the other bronzer believe that that was why she disliked him. To be honest that did add to it just a little. There was an ingrained hate between Fort and Benden and Elysia sure did nothing to hide or lessen her obviously Benden accent around the Fortian man in the extremely rare instances that she spoke with him.
As S’rei’s arm tightened around her to pull her into his side the greenrider remained mostly stiff, even if part of her wanted to relax a bit. It was not something easy for her to do with M’gnum right there. To S’rei she murmured lowly and for only his ears. “Tell him to go.” But sadly it seemed the bronzer had other plans and a soft growl left Elysia’s throat when her weyrmate continued the conversation anyway, even adding a joke. Just what was he playing at? Had he not been holding her she might have taken that opportunity to leave in a fit of anger. But as it was S’rei had her nicely snuggled to his side and in all honesty the woman didn’t want to give M’gmun the pleasure of driving her off. So instead she turned a very icy and displeased gaze onto the ex Fortian.
Elysia was also quite aware of Romeoth’s arrival though Onyth and part of her was both glad and yet almost disappointed that K’ian was not with him. Glad because it was one less bronzer to deal with and disappointed because maybe she could have turned the whole thing to her advantage if the younger bronzer had been there. Damn her luck.
M'gnum's mouth twisted a bit downward as the conversation continued. Apparently, even though he had specifically watched them for any such private activities before approaching, the steam from the water combined with only using his peripheral vision had apparently prevented him from seeing the obvious signs, and he was not welcome here. "My apologies to both of you," he began, "I did not mean to intrude. I suppose the steam kept me from seeing that you two were here for private matters. Either that, or my old eyes are failing me as badly as your memory is failing you, S'rei," he added, chuckling a bit to hide his discomfort and slapping his fellow bronzerider on the shoulder in jest. "I had nothing specific to speak to you about, I was merely being sociable. As for the Wingleader meeting, simply let me know when and where you plan to hold it when you have a moment, and I will surely attend." Bowing slightly in the water towards the two other riders, he concluded with a, "S'rei, Lady Elysia," then turned and made his way back to the channel connecting the two pools, diving beneath the surface to swim his way back across.
Higginth, for his part, greeted Romeoth with a nod of his head accompanied by, "Greetings, my bronze brother." Romeoth then began heaping compliments upon the green, and Higginth gave a draconic sigh and his eyes swirled orange in what might even be seen as a pattern resembling the rolling of a human's eyes. If Romeoth wished to waste his time entering competitions that resulted in no clutches and were not designed for his body type, so was his choice... it would leave Higginth all the fresher for the Flights that really mattered to a proper bronze. In response to the other bronze's question, he responded, "Not much, Romeoth. Simply someone taking personal offense regarding a general viewpoint of mine in a conversation that did not even involve them in the first place." Then, Higginth noticed His surfacing back in his pool, and sent to M'gnum, "Oh, M'gnummine, are you finished with your conversation already? It did sound like Onyth's had just as much affection towards you as she has towards me. Too bad, though, I was just getting comfortable," he concluded, as M'gnum began to head towards the pile of clothing he left on the pool's edge.
Bugger. Elysia was Elysia and S'rei didn't make a habit of telling his weyrmates how to behave, but her interference and apparent inability to even be civil to one of Selenitas' wingleaders was trying his patience. It was inappropriate behavior, even if M'gnum's approach wasn't entirely appropriate either, and moreover it reflected on S'rei when they were together if he didn't admonish her for it. He wasn't responsible for anything M'gnum did. There was guilt by association, however, when it came to his weyrmate. It worked both ways, of course, but S'rei generally didn't misbehave, and he was the ranking half of the pair so was held more accountable anyway.
The other wingleader, to his credit, handled the scene and disrespect fairly well. S'rei offered him a parting smile. He thought to stop him, but he had something else to take care of first, something that would best be done out of earshot. Not releasing Elysia, he leaned in and murmured, "While his timing was rather tactless, this isn't our weyr. These are public hot springs and he is a wingleader. I don't even speak to weyrlings that way. You have been gone from Benden too long if you think that what you just did was remotely acceptable behavior. You could have expressed the same desire respectfully and doubtless he would have heeded it. I also have business with him. You can wait here for me to return or leave as you please. It shouldn't be long." Because he still didn't feel comfortable scolding his weyrmate, and actually was a bit miffed she'd forced him to like a wayward child.
Rising, S'rei swam the channel after M'gnum, though he didn't arrive before the man was already out of the pool. The older of the bronzeriders waved in acknowledgment to the bronze already occupying the water and came up to the edge, folding his arms on it. "M'gnum, can you hold on a second?" Clearly the awkwardness of the situation had nothing to do with nudity, as S'rei continued despite the state of undress his fellow wingleader was in. And why should it have been about nudity, anyway? They were all dragonriders without holders' shame. "I've actually spoken to E'rro, K'ian and Mi'rah already."
When he was sure that he had the ex-Fort bronzer's attention, he added, "It seems silly to bypass the opportunity when we're both already here. I hope we didn't cut your soak short? She's...I don't know, honestly. At any rate, if you were interrupting anything too private, I could use the interruption." Molestation in public venues wasn't really his thing. "I'm curious about your thoughts on the war and what our role should be. To me, at least, it seems naive to think that we can hide here in obscurity forever. Our location will get out eventually." There was an unusual solemnity to his gaze as he waited for M'gnum's response.
Romeoth was well pleased when both dragons greeted him in a friendly manner. The bronze didn’t go out of his way to be unusually unlikeable or confrontational, but sometimes things happened without you realizing it and he was happy that he hadn’t done anything to unintentionally upset either dragon, Onyth especially. Rom had a soft spot for the females of the weyr, no matter which color she happened to be. Yes. We are well, thank you for asking, Onyth. K’ian has been silly and irrational as of late, but you know how humans can be. How are you and your girl? He said with amusement in his mindvoice.
Her next words intrigued him and Rom listened intently, head partly cocked to the side. The tip of his tail was flicking sporadically and he chuckled lightly as the green finished. I will take you up on that, lovely Onyth. Challenges are in are very nature, are they not?
It was then that Higginth piped in and Rom’s head shot towards the other bronze dragon. He didn’t know how he felt about this one. While he had always been friendly enough with Romeoth, there was something about him…maybe he was a little stuck up? Oh well, it was difficult to find a bronze nowadays who wasn’t stuck up. Though it was certainly possible, and most of the bronze dragons of the weyr seemed to be the exception to the rule, you could always find bronzes that didn’t sit right with everyone. Fights and mistrustfulness was bound to happen. Maybe he could buffer the interaction between the pair of them somewhat? Do I even want to know what this offense was about? The big bronze rumbled lightly and stretched out, forepaws dipped into the warm water. Come now. Don’t let any general unpleasantness ruin this beautiful day. What have you two been up to? We haven’t spoken in some time!
Dark eyes watched with little in the way of any forgiveness as M’gnum spoke and then clapped S’rei on the shoulder. Good. That’s right leave. You are not welcome. Elysia really didn’t need to speak to make that clear. Her entire being practically radiated her displeasure at the man’s presence. Especially when he had treated her like he had. Yes she had no desire to carry on like nothing was wrong and submit to the fortian bronzer’s whims. Fuck that. Merely being sociable? Was the man daft? Thankfully the greenrider managed to hold her tongue as M’gnum began to move off, though it was a close thing. She very much wanted to shoot off a final comment but he was leaving so there was no point in the matter. Could go back to relaxing with S’rei now. Or so Elysia thought.
As S’rei leaned forward she thought to lean closer to him as well to perhaps say something but before she could utter a word her weyrmate was speaking. For a moment the woman blinked at him as if not quite believing what he was saying. In the next moment she further stiffened against the bronzer’s side, her eyes reflecting a brief flash of betrayal and hurt. The emotions rose up in a wave that was hard to fight and just as quickly Elysia tried to clap down on them, letting the anger that was still simmering boil up instead. Didn’t S’rei care that M’gnum had just disrespected her? Treated her as a lesser thing? As an afterthought. Had that meant nothing to him? Sure her weyrmate’s reputation was important and she understood that. But still. And then for S’rei to scold her for it? And put a shot in about Benden besides? Why should she act like she did at Benden here? Did not she have more freedom here? Did not her gender matter less in the South then in the North?
The rush of thought came just as S’rei released her with his final words. Wait for him to return or leave as she pleased. Well fuck that. Like she wanted to be anywhere near him right now. Like she wanted to… Biting down hard on her lip to force herself silent Elysia said nothing as S’rei rose to leave and started to swim up the channel. Only once she was sure he was gone and she could taste the faint metallic taste of blood on her tongue did she move. The greenrider rose from the pool and exited it, keeping her back to the steam hazed outline of the bronzers in the pool beyond. Haphazardly toweling herself off she quickly donned her clothes and started to walk away from the pools and into the snow covered landscape surrounding them.
Onyth paid quiet and careful attention to Romeoth even if part of her was currently trying to subtly soothe the irritation hers was currently emitting in large quantities. Yes humans can oftentimes be silly and irrational. I believe it is part of their makeup. She remarked causally coiling her tail more around herself before continuing. We are both quite well thank you for asking. Even if hers was currently expressing irritation, for the most part it was true that the greenpair was quite happy as of late. She rumbled lightly and playfully in response to the young bronze as seemed to react favorably to her previous invitation. Providing Romeoth remembered that might prove to be entertaining.
She turned her head away to watch the humans in the pool. There was something going on there that caught Onyth’s attention. More specifically hers and Salenth’s who were now left alone. Her bonded was growing increasingly upset as the bronzer spoke, and in response the green’s gaze changed hue into a less pleasant shade. As Salenth’s left and her’s eventually left the pool the female made a soft noise in her throat and watched her bonded dress and begin to move off. For the immediate moment the bronzes near her were forgotten.
Concerned, Onyth snaked her head in the direction her bonded had taken, her muscles twitching as she debated rising to bound after her. Elysialove? The private question was a loving caress. I’m fine Onyth. The mental words were tight and the green knew better to believe the lie, but she also knew better then to push at her bonded just yet. She hadn’t spent seventeen turns with the woman and learned nothing. Hers would let her comfort her when the initial pain and anger had dimmed a bit. Just stay and take S’rei home when he comes back. I do not want to leave you up here…. I’ll find my own way back. Probably before you do. Don’t worry about it. With that her rider disappeared into the haze of steam and fog surrounding the pools.
Eyes whirling in muted shades of distress Onyth turned back to Romeoth. For the moment she was at a loss. If she pushed and tried to speak to hers further the woman would shut her out. So it was best to leave her be. However, that didn’t mean the green liked her rider randomly going off still damp into the freezing weather to likely catch her death. Shifting in her indecision she responded to Romeoth. You’ll have to excuse me. I’m afraid I am a bit distracted currently. Yes there were more pressing matters now then general unpleasantness, and to be honest the day had quite suitability gone quite sour for her.
Higginth sent the mental equivalent of a sigh, then directly to Romeoth said, "You can ask Onyth if you wish to know. She took offense from almost the first thing I sent, and considering what I've heard from Hers and Mine speaking, Hers has a major dislike of Mine as well, so it could be that." Extending a wingtip from the water, he watched the warm waters drip slowly from the wingtip back into the pool, and added, "Personally, I do not have the energy to care one way or the other. As long as she performs well during Threadfall, and does the role her color is intended to, I don't need her to be my friend, and don't feel the necessity of trying to garner a friendship she obviously does not want." Retracting the wingtip, he nodded to S'rei and sent a pulse of greeting as he emerged from the channel, then pulled his long, sinuous tail from the water and began idly stirring the waters near his head with his tailtips, and sent directly to Romeoth, "As for what I've been up to, with no gold Flights or Threadfall, there hasn't been much for a bronze to occupy himself with. Beyond what Mine asks of me, I've been conserving my energy for Nitrath's upcoming maiden Flight."
M'gnum, for his part, stopped toweling himself off as he saw S'rei emerge from the water and approach his position. As his fellow bronzer began to speak, he stopped drying himself and slipped back into the pool; why be damp and cold when one could be wet but warm, especially since he was apparently not leaving so soon after all. He nodded solemnly as S'rei spoke, then rubbed his chin in silence for a moment as he thought. Finally, he began, "Well, S'rei, you are correct that we cannot avoid the Northern War forever. Something must be done. Though their previous actions give me pause to fully trust them, your alliance with Benden was a good idea... with luck, we can use J'lorin, yours, and my knowledge of the inner workings of Fort to extend a hand and perhaps gain a peaceful coexistence with Fort, as well."
Shaking his head sadly, he said, "I know that's, unfortunately, unlikely, due to the attitude of R'anatar, but we must at least try. Too much life is being wasted in this silly war. Dragons and riders both who die to their fellow dragonriders, leaving one less rider to defend the people when Thread falls once more. The stories say we did not war against our fellow Weyrs before... those days must return. Without us to guard them, the people die. And wasting our time and lives battling those who should be our allies against the common threat of Thread is ridiculous." M'gnum's voice was growing in passion and he began gesturing dramatically as he spoke, this particular subject of conversation lying very close to home.
While he wasn't exactly not paying any attention to M'gnum, the older of the bronzeriders did notice Elysia's sudden departure and the fact that she was headed into the snowy mountain slopes sans Onyth. Throwing another tantrum. It really was beginning to get rather irritating, these manipulative tactics she liked to use, though he was slowly training her to break those habits by responding to requests and ignoring her other methods of getting what she wanted. Old dogs did not learn new tricks quickly, though, and while Elysia wasn't precisely old, she was certainly old enough to be pretty stuck in her ways about certain things. Well, no matter. Though he didn't know how she intended to get down; the mountains really were impassable up here.
All of that passed through his mind in the space of a breath before he returned his full attention to M'gnum with a small smile as the man returned to the pool. "I doubt there are many who would argue with you on the point of the war being senseless," S'rei agreed rather neutrally. These sorts of speeches were common from the Fort bronzer. He didn't necessarily disagree. In a perfect world everyone would get along and no one shed each other's blood, but this was hardly a perfect world and expecting people to behave that way was naive. At least by S'rei's reasoning. He had the scarring left by his brother's blade to validate it, the entire war aside.
"From a strategic standpoint, though, reminding R'anatar of the alliance and revalidating it in ways would not really be to our advantage. Short of a miraculous change of heart or a sudden bout of ill health - assuming even then that no one would step into the gap to take his place - suing for peace with Fort without leverage is foolhardy at best. He's shown no sign of desiring to end the war. Neither, for that matter, has J'lorin. I understand he had a personal affection for the weyrwoman who was slain, and somehow holds R'anatar responsible. So. Perhaps we'd best skip the pleading with rocks part and set our sights on something more...decisive."
S'rei met M'gnum's eyes. The wildcard in this whole thing. The young Benden rider took hardly any convincing, eager to prove himself. Mi'rah...well, while S'rei would like to think the man saw the logic in it, his actual reasons for agreeing to the course of action were something of a mystery. He trusted the man's intelligence and grasp of strategy. The seeming half-hero worship? Not so much. Mi'rah was, in S'rei's opinion, too smart for such things. But he didn't distrust the man's loyalty, so motivations aside, his support was really all S'rei wanted or needed. E'rro, too, though reluctant had proven fairly easy to convince. M'gnum was the one with the ideals. Either they'd align, or they wouldn't, and regardless of the logic behind the move the ideals would carry the day. S'rei couldn't profess to understand the ideals so...he really didn't have a clue how M'gnum would swing on this one.
"By my reckoning, we've really got just the once chance. We've never fought in the war. If we play our cards right, the shock from our entering the first battle we enter should break Fort, and if we can do that we can end the war completely. If not right then, then soon after. We'd have to plan it right, though, coordinate with Benden and make our strike count for as much as possible while surprise is still on our side. If not...I'm afraid this war will simply continue to draw out for many turns yet." His eyes were still on M'gnum's face, testing for his reaction.
M'gnum frowned, his brow knotting as he listened to S'rei's response. He sat for a moment, rubbing his chin in thought, and a few times lifted his hand as if responding, only to return to thinking once more without saying a word. Finally, with a heavy sigh, he replied, "You are correct in this, unfortunately. R'anatar and J'lorin use the lives of dragonriders, weyrfolk and holders to fight their personal battles, and it's unlikely to stop any time soon. We must force Fort to negotiate with us."
Shaking his head at the finality of his statement, his expression grim, he turned hard eyes on S'rei and began, "We must do as much as possible to keep the Weyr hidden, however. We are far from both Fort and Benden... we must take to this fight with the utmost care. Secrecy is a must, and finding a staging point in the North that we can muster and resupply at without revealing us leaving here is paramount. And once the Wings leave, we must not return until we are sure we are finished... this is all or nothing. We cannot risk leading any Fortians back to our home."
Placing a hand on S'rei's shoulder, M'gnum gave his fellow bronzerider another hard stare and said, "We must begin planning soon, and leave nothing to chance. Let us pray to Faranth that this succeeds, S'rei... let our generation be the last to have lived in a time where dragonrider fought dragonrider."
