Kalina slowly mad her way into the infirmary. She had purposefully waited till evening time in hopes of less people being around. Even now....R'wign looked at her like he was going to poison her. The man was decidedly scary. Even now....she had to resist the urge to just peek around the corner to scope out the area. Instead she walked in slowly, unable to mask her trepidation. She could not recall the last time she went to the infirmary. Not for a cold, not for her arm....not even for her womanly pains.
Kalina was dressed rather simply. Wearing black pants and a blue blouse. The hatching had upset her terribly and Uminth was still curled up in their Weyr, not coping well at all. The smell of something cooked drifted across the infirmary. She made her way to were recuperating Dragons where and found Behruth. She frowned slightly at his condition. She had hoped that his injuries weren't as bad as they looked on the sands but....they were.
She set a small basket down. The basket held samples of her fried tubers, cookies, and special meat rolls for Beruth. Each roll had een carefully broiled to be rare-medium rare. She also had a small piece of polished driftwood, decorated with shiny stones and feathers. One of her own creations of coarse.
"Hey Behruth..." She murmured..."I brought you a surprise." At first she was going to say 'How do you feel' but that was stupid question.

The male's outer lids slowly rose, the colors behind them their usual peaceful blue/green. He was in pain. No amount of numbweed was going to take all of that away. An attempt had been made to do something for the tattered remnants of his wings. It meant he couldn't close them right now and they were spread around him, taking up rather more space than 'Ruth usually occupied. Anyway could see at a glance, though, that if the wings healed it would be nothing short of a miracle.
He was alive, though. The male wasn't one to fret about things he really couldn't change. Uminth's. The brown crooned softly to her. It clearly pained him to reach out and snag that small basket with a claw, but he made no complaints. His nostrils flared as he inhaled the foodstuffs. It was human food, but he didn't find that at all odd considering Uminth's was a human. She certainly wouldn't be bringing him herdbeasts, now would she?
What he extracted first from the basket, though, was the pretty driftwood. This is beautiful. I shall have to add it to the ones I have Mine sew into my straps. He extended his neck just enough to nuzzled the woman lightly, then rested his head beside the basket. I'm afraid it's a little too small for me to get my head in. It smells delicious, though. Behruth could always have His feed him some. And then he could get the man to eat some himself. M'ta was not doing very well, either. Worried.
As if the thought itself had conjured him, a figure appeared. He'd been coiled on 'Ruth's tail much as he'd been throughout his weyrling turns. There was a sleepy slowness in the man's eyes. "Kalina?" His voice was soft, the long curls he hadn't cut since the siege spilling around him to his waist. He stifled a yawn behind his hand. "What are you doing here so late?" Bringing me gifts, the brown supplied. M'ta glanced at the indicated basket. Oh. He blinked. "Thank you." A moment. "How are you holding up?" It seemed like he hadn't seen Kalina...in turns.

She smiled up at Behruth as he saw the driftwood, pleased that he liked it. "I'm glad you like it Behruth. Maybe you and M'ta can have some when hes here." She said. As he nuzzled her she reached out a hand for his eye ridge for a rub before he rested his head. He seemed so... weary. She imagined that it hurt alot. "Is there anything I can do for you Behruth?" She wanted to help him somehow...
Seeing movement she looked over at the figure coming up from Behruth's tail. It wasn't surprising that the person before her was M'ta....if Uminth had been hurt...she'd have likely stayed with her green too. She fidgeted a little then stopped. Stop it KalinaShe thought to herself, forcing herself to relax a little. "You're welcome" She said, giving him a small smile. A pause....
"I'm....holding up okay I guess." She said. She didn't want to complain, not with M'ta and Behruth having enough trouble as it is. "Uminth's doing good too...we're both....unsettled I guess is a good word." She glanced at the basket for a moment, thinking. Strands of black hair escaped her tie, which she ignored. "I was...worried about Behruth... everything was so....terrible at the hatching. Uminth couldn't be sure how bad he'd been hurt..." In truth the hatching ground had been so cramped that Uminth had stayed outside during the hatching, too afraid of the enclosed space. And saying she had been worried about Behruth was true....but she'd also been worried about him. Something she had blatantly refused when Uminth questioned her.
"Uminth is feeling really bad about not being in their." She said. "I've tried to comfort her but...its not working." She hadn't really bothered M'ta or looked for him in so long...she hadn't realized his hair had grown so....long. She tried not to look at it as if she'd never seen it. "How are things...down here?"

Just showing up is more than enough, Behruth responded to Uminth's graciously. Though I would like it very much if you told my clutchsister that I hope she's doing well and not to fret too much. The male could have told her himself, of course, but he wanted to have something to ask of Kalina so that it wasn't just an exchange of pleasantries that fell kind of...short. Being polite and social graces often had a way of creating distance even when that wasn't your intent.
M'ta, for his part, couldn't really understand why his brown was bothering with all these niceties. He liked Kalina well enough. (More than he had as a candidate, certainly, for he hadn't suffered from any urges to bind her to trees lately.) Still and all, she was practically a stranger now and had been for quite some time. Plus he doubted she really cared much if Behruth was terribly personal considering he was obviously not doing very well. But of course 'Ruth was always thinking about others. He wouldn't be Behruth, otherwise.
M'ta rubbed at his arm lightly while Kalina was speaking. Chilled, probably. It was rather cold here of a night and he was sleeping in loose clothing that didn't do a whole lot for warmth. Especially when you were used to piles of blankets and a warm body beside you. He blinked and ran a hand through part of his hair with a slight frown. Why was she giving it that queer look? "Um...it smells just as bad as the infirmary always does?" Something M'ta still didn't like even after turns of helping out here.
"'Ruth's...he's been better. He should be all right, though. His wings..." M'ta didn't finish that. He didn't want to speculate on it that much. "Uminth really shouldn't feel bad. Behruth wanted to help the hatchlings and by the time he realized he was too late that brown was already shadowing him so...I guess he was trying to take care of what had Millieth's attention so she could take control before it got too bad." Actually, he knew all the reasoning, but putting it into words was a chore.
"I haven't seen you in ages."

"I will Behruth. I'm sure she'll be happy to hear from you." She knew of course that Behruth could pass on any message he wanted....but she appreciated his response all the same. She scratched a scar on her arm idly, still unused to the scar that now graced it.
At M'ta's comment she glanced at Behruth and back at him. "Well....I've been in and out alot. After the Siege I....took an extended visit to my family." She grimaced slightly as she recalled the memory. She hadn't said goodbye to her Father the day she was searched. Her parents had tried to keep her from the dragons all her life. She couldn't recall if she had said anything to M'ta about her family before. "Since then I've visited a couple times...I've also been traveling often...as duties allow." Not to mention the few months she moped about....or the near clawing incident from yet another large feline....or any other crazy things.
"I've also been working on things in my Father's forge." She said, "I've gotten better at crafting silver this turn...its not just beaten metal forced into a shape anymore. It actually looks like something." She then noticed M'ta rubbing his arm. "Are you cold M'ta? I could go grab a blanket or something if you don't want to leave Behruth....?"

M'ta's eyebrows had risen. He did remember something vague about her being from one of the southern holds and not liking the restrictions that she was under. Something about the role of women or something. (Really, he'd just been trying to think of ways to get her out of his hair at the time when she'd mentioned it.) The brownrider didn't really understand this issue women seemed to take - northern and southern alike - with these gender role things. Of course, some would probably say he was confused on gender in general.
His thoughts along those lines were derailed neatly when she brought up blankets. M'ta colored slightly. Was it that obvious? He brushed hair back from his face and half-turned for another look at Behruth. "No. It's...I don't need you fetching me things." The man smiled slightly at Kalina. "We're already cutting into your sleep. It was awfully nice of you to come by, but I wouldn't want to be the reason for your falling asleep adragonback come morning."
Behruth was not quite so eager to be rid of their present company. He does need a blanket, the male confided to Kalina. And someone to talk to, if it's not going to be too much trouble. I get tired of all the worrying. "Ruth." But the dragon ignored him and reached out to touch the mind of his clutchsister instead. The words of her rider had left him a touch unsettled. Uminth, are you okay?
M'ta pinched the bridge of his nose lightly. Meddlesome brown.

"It's not a problem." Kalina said at once. She vaguely remembered that the infirmary kept extra blankets and furs for patients spending the night. "I'll be right back." She walked off towards the back end of the infirmary were stuff was usually stored. Seeing Asharra she asked for some furs and gathered them up. "No firelizards I hope?" She told the Healer no and walked off with the furs, wondering why the old woman asked about firelizards.
"Here M'ta, I even found a couple of pillows." She set them down on a nearby chair so that M'ta could do as he pleased with them. She grabbed a chair for herself and sat down. "I don't have to do anything till late afternoon. Staying up won't bother me." She assured him.
Meanwhile Uminth stirred at her clutchbrother's mental touch. Behruth? I'm...I was worried about you...I can't believe they hurt the hatchlings. I couldn't do anything to protect them. She couldn't even avenge their deaths since she had stayed out side of the hatching sands. Her distress was evident although she tried to mask it. She didn't want her clutch brother to worry. She wanted him to get better! They're evil. I want to tear them all apart Behruth. her eyed whirled fast in fear and anger though no one was there to witness it. But Behruth...they hurt you too. Are you going to be okay? They had been silly to distance themselves from Behruth and His. Why couldn't Hers see that?

"Kali-" But she was already gone before he could even get out her whole name. M'ta sighed and let his arm fall back to his side. Really, he was just fine...
He let Uminth finish speaking before responding to anything the green said, instead taking care to send his clutchsister loving waves of reassurance. They have been saying that as long as I want it, I'll live. So you don't have to worry about that. Hopefully they can do something for my wings. Behruth could have simply given her platitudes but what was the point, really?
There's nothing that we can really do. I shouldn't have tried to stop it to begin with. I'm fortunate that they didn't just have the healers leave me there. Behruth actually didn't believe that he'd done anything wrong. Even attacking those riders had been a move to forestall more death. He knew that he had to get through to Millieth and it would be more difficult if those riders were still alive, if no one but her was trying to defend that albino that they were trying to kill. I'm glad you're not hurt, too. You should be grateful for that.
M'ta managed a rather sheepish smile for the girl who had gone through weyrlinghood with him. "I don't think I'll be terribly good company," he stated finally. The brownrider shrugged one shoulder and moved the items so he could occupy the chair. He offered Kalina one of the blankets and a pillow silently. "Thanks again. It...is nice to have a little company." R'wign couldn't be here, not with the kids. Unless he had K'lir's mother take them again. There weren't too many people left that the brownriders trusted with their children.
"Tell me more about your smithing?"
