Mikaze leaped off....
Wind whipped past him, tugging against the gravity that was pulling him faster and faster. He held his arms out to keep himself stabilized for the several seconds of free fall before tucking his chin and turning his body to point down. The icy water hit his fingertips then in the space of a heartbeat he was submerged. He turned his body, forcing it against the current and pushed up. The water was shockingly cold and the feeling made him feel more alive.
He broke the surfce of the water and grinned. "Whoooo!" He whooped happily. He was going to go do that again! He began to swim towards the platform that gave access to the stairs built into the cliff wall. He was soon climbing back up with no heed to his drippy shorts and wet footprints leaving a mess behind him.
As he came back out to where he had jumped from he looked up and down. The sky was a crystal clue blue. The wind wasn't bad....coming and going to tug playfully along his skin only to move on as wind does. He stood there for a minute, contemplating whether he should jump from some place higher or simply jump from here.

You wanted chaos, my love? Something to upset the natural order, increase entropy? And I am not enough? Heart asked, her tone turning sly at the very end. Hinsero reached up to his belt - her favorite place to cling - and stroked the near-white green salamandyr along her back as he kept an eye on his feet, climbing down the sharply vertical stairs on his way to the river. "You aren't -" he started, then paused to think for a second. After just a moment, he started down again, switching his speech to what he thought of as 'private mode' now that he'd had a second to concentrate. You aren't chaotic, my little angel. In fact, of all your siblings, you seem the LEAST difficult. She didn't disagree, merely allowing her eyes to shade pink for a second before she directed Hinsero's attention to a small jut of rock out of the cliff face, a few yards further down on the staircase. A young man just jumped.
That certainly spurred the Candidate to action. His heart raced as he half ran, half slid down the stairs, bringing him to a ledge in seconds. And there was the splash- Terrified of what he'd see, Hinsero leaned over, searching the river's water for a slick of red or a limp body only to hear an elated "Whooo!" echo up the cliff side. Almost immediately, his eyes found head and shoulders, whole and apparently unharmed. "Oh, thank Great Faranth," he whispered, slumping back against the cliff behind him. In a moment, Heart nosed at the hand he had clapped over his eyes, tiny claws pricking into flesh. I am so sorry, Hinsero love. I had no idea it would scare you so, he was simply looking for excitement, just as you are! Of course, that was a lie, but Hinsero didn't know and Heart would never tell. Ever.
A moment passed and she licked him again, murmuring, The young man comes. I suggest you greet him properly. Hinsero took her advice, leaning out a little so he could see the man's progress. Selenitas, unless he was newly Searched. Fiddling gently with his Wasteland knot, Hinsero waited for him to get into earshot - but he stopped at a ledge lower down, so Hinsero cupped his hands to his mouth and yelled. "Hey, you! What are you doing, trying to give someone a heart attack?"

Mikaze had thought he was all alone till he heard a yell. He looked up, curiously. He couldn't be sure of who was up there but thought it was another candidate. He grinned, shifting wet hair back from his eyes in casual gesture. "A heart attack? Not likely from this distance." He disappeared from the ledge and with in a few seconds he found his way up the stairs. When he reached the level where Hinsero was he realized he did recognize him from lessons. He walked up to lean on the wall opposite of Hinsero.
"You're one of the other candidates right? I'm Mikaze." He had look up at Hinsero as he was several inches shorter than the man. He paused to look at the pale green Salamandyr. "Oh....you have one these lovelies? I heard they're delightfully chaotic. Is that true?"

The other candidate's grin and relaxed stance relaxed Hinsero, too. The Wastelander's mouth turned up a little, and he added, "That's what you think!" before heading for the stairs, only to realize the other one was on his way up. As he got closer, Hinsero identified the other man - a Candidate, he recognized him from lessons. Mi... Mihkal? No, that wasn't right, that was a different boy. Hmmm...
Oh there we go, the boy had some decency. More than Hinsero had experienced from some of the other Selenitas candidates, not to mention Riders. The bigger candidate smiled a little more, extending a hand for Mikaze to shake, "Yeah, I'm Hinsero. Remember you from lessons. You didn't seem..." like the rest of them? No, that wasn't right, but now that Hinsero thought back there had been something different about Mikaze. "You didn't seem new to the whole thing."
Heart, meanwhile, had taken a place on Hinsero's shoulder, her tiny body nearly lost against the width of his shoulders through his white shirt. Mikaze was mostly ignored, but she'd gone silent in Hinsero's mind, something he'd already learned was a bit dangerous. Not for him, of course - Heart loved him far too much for that. Dangerous for the other person, although Hinsero had yet to figure out how Heart had caused a drudge's skirt to come untied and leave her bare to her clout after she'd tried to shoo Heart out of the dining hall, or how another rider's pet had ended up sans tail after trying to talk down to the green. Both times, Heart had been in Hinsero's company all day. Maybe it was simply divine retribution?
Hinsero wasn't too worried, though. Heart could be as quiet as she wanted, or as loud as she wanted. She was perfect; so he said as much to Mikaze. "Oh no," he started, reaching up to soothe the silent Mandyr. "Some of her siblings, for sure - they actually killed and ate one of their sisters at hatching. But Heart was just trying to do her best by the white, and she took care of everyone and made sure they all impressed. She really is lovely." But Heart wasn't why they were here. "Were you just... diving for fun?"

Mikaze shook Hinsero's hand, providing a firm and enthusiastic shake. At the suggestion at being familiar with candidacy he replied. "You're right........I've been around a Weyr before. I'm Mikaze." He smiled in response, easily liking Hinsero and relaxing. He didn't want to think about his time at Benden....and he was a little uneasy around the Wastelanders in case any recognized him. He had noticed a few individuals he could identify from Benden and the thought of his past being brought to light....well...he was glad to switch topics.
He looked at the little green with newfound liking. "I'd have never guessed they were like that, but she seems nice." His eyes gazed out towards the water, contemplating. When Hinsero asked about his diving he wondered just how readable his thoughts were.
"Yeah, the water's deep there and the currents aren't bad at all. You ought to try it, it's fun. What ever you do, you don't belly flop. The impact would be to hard if you did that." He scratched his chin thoughtfully. "I was going to jump from down there, but we could probably jump from here just fine." He leaned out slightly to see if there was enough clearance from rocks and outcroppings. "Actually you'd do real well here...the ledge down was hard to clear. This one sticks out real nice...." As he leaned out his tattoo became visible. A colored piece of ferns and flowers across his lower back. It couldn't be more than a few years old.

Relaxing a little when it didn't seem like Mikaze was about to shun him for being Wasteland (although maybe the Selenitas man hadn't exactly put it together yet, but then, Hinsero was a fairly new candidate, not a rider), Hinsero returned the firmness of the handshake, adding a smile. "Well met, Mikaze. May Faranth shine on our meeting." If the other Candidate found the greeting strange, Hinsero didn't notice - he was busy listening to Heart. I am sure she does, Hinsero my love, she murmured, her tone distant and a little mysterious.
His eyes widened a fraction, then refocused on Mikaze with a little nudge from Heart. Mikaze liked his pet - that endeared Hinsero to him endlessly. With another scratch for the Green, he agreed, "Oh, she's absolutely lovely." You may inform him that I appreciate his sentiments, she added, and Hinsero obediently translated. "She never talks to anyone but me, but she says she appreciates your... sediment. Sentiment." Shards, that Salamandyr used words he'd never even heard, when the rest of her species used words like 'sasshat'.
Talk of diving made him grin again, though. "I believe you," he said, examining the cliffside. It was high up, sure, but now that he looked over, it didn't seem so bad. Carefully transferring Heart to the rocks behind him, he murmured, "Seems you were right, Heart of my heart. Excitement indeed." Pulling his shirt off over his head, the Candidate stripped down quickly, thankful that the SOuth was so warm. Mikaze's tattoo caught his eye, but Hinsero was distracted, entranced by the drop. "That's cool," he offered, then flung himself over the edge without a second thought. Twisting into a dive was easy enough after the initial shock of free fall, and then time seemed to speed up, slamming him below the water and sweeping him a few yards downstream before he surfaced. Once his head broke through, though, he gasped a great lungful of air and added his own "WHOOOOOO!!!"
Scrambling back up the stairs, he reached the ledge in just a few moments, dripping quietly onto the stone before growling, "That. Was. INCREDIBLE."

Mikaze's mind raced, trying to think of another time where he might have heard someone say something similar. May Faranth shine on our meeting? It sounded like a blessing of some sort, kinda like 'May the sun shine on you' or 'May the road rise with you'. He decided to file the thought for another time though and instead put his thoughts back on what Hinsero was saying. He blinked, sentiment seemed like a long word for a firelizard.
So the man would dive with him? Mikaze allowed himself a glance over of Hinsero while he was focused on removing his clothes. He grinned and stood aside as Hinsero plunged off the edge the moment he was undressed! He came to the edge to watch the man twist and turn into a dive. He noticed very little water displacement when Hinsero went under.
"Whoooo!" He replied waving and grinning. He almost jumped in with Hinsero still in the water but decided to let the man come back up first instead. "Yeah," He said when Hinsero returned, "Its the best rush I've ever had." He ran out, jumping, "Yipppeee!" Flip, Flip, Flip....straighten out...the feeling of wind tugging his hair and SPLOOSH! He tensed his muscled, arching his back to rise back up. He swam to the edge where the current was slower and motioned Hinsero down. "Come on!"
He smiled as he looked up towards Hinsero...Was that thirty or forty feet? He wondered. He squinted his eyes as sunlight reflected into them.

They enjoyed the day, daring each other to higher cliff dives and enjoying the water. By the time they got out both had gotten some sun. It had been a fun and tiring afternoon. Mikaze parted from Hinsero with a grin and a promise to meet at some other time in the future for more adventure.
