Humans:
Name: Kaius
Age: 25 Turns
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual (Confused?)
Rank: Goldhandler
Weyrmate: Sena of blue Sensk
Physical Appearance:
Keeping in mind where the boy comes from, the one most remarkable aspect of his appearance is his height. In all other discernible appearance traits, he is rather ordinary. Standing at a height of six foot two, Kaius is by far the tallest in his family. Nor is he stocky like his father and male siblings had been. Even one of his sisters had inherited the paternal gene for stockiness. He most probably inherited his tallness gene from his mother. Adeana wasn’t abnormally tall herself, just more thin and lean than is normal for women in Lighttower hold.
All maternal influences aside, Kaius appears very much his father’s son. He has the same dark brown hair, though he gained the featheriness of the locks from his mother, and dark brown eyes. His hair is a fair bit shaggier than his father’s and much lighter, thanks to the fairness of his mother’s hair. In build, the boy is extremely lanky, almost to the point of awkwardness. It’s odd, because awkward lankiness is supposed to melt away from boys before their eighteenth turn. Unfortunately for Kaius, he has retained the build and it seems to be keen on sticking around for a long while.
His skin is pale, though not unnaturally so. A life of being kept inside a lighthouse has taken its toll on him, and he doesn’t easily tan, at least not without sustaining horrible burns first. Distinct but not entirely out of place dot his thin face. He has an unusually large nose, but it isn’t HUGE and it works well with his face; to the point where one can scarcely tell that the nose itself is oversized. In fact, everything odd about the boy melds in seamlessly with the rest of him, making him seem unusually ordinary, but quite handsome nonetheless. It doesn’t help that his rather vibrant brown eyes and full lips make his facial features stand out. This kid is what has what might be known as on Earth as ‘bedroom eyes’.
Personality:He isn’t a mute, but he might as well be. Kaius doesn’t talk a lot. There’s an air of mystery about him that isn’t even dispelled by looking into his soulful chocolate eyes. This seems to stem from a need to keep his emotions a secret as a child, but no one knows the specifics of this as he isn’t big on talking about his past, or his emotions…or anything about himself, really. Though this can make him seem a tad antisocial, he isn’t in the least. In fact, he loves being around people. The larger the group, the better, if only to keep him from thinking about his own inner demons. He still feels at home in small groups and is an excellent listener, preferring to listen to the problems of others rather than express his own. Kaius is likely to keep his problems inside at all costs, because of course admitting that something is wrong is a sign of weakness and is therefore bad.
When he’s alone, it’s easy to call him brooding, because he always seems so deeply pensive. In actuality, he knows the value of alone time, and even though he prefers to spend his time in the company of others, he finds himself alone a lot, and being a very intelligent boy, he will more often than not find his thoughts drifting to subjects that make him more than a little upset, though it’s hard to tell because his face can be in an almost perpetual state of serene emotionlessness. Speaking of his facial expressions, making him crack a smile isn’t a hard task, though most of the time it isn’t a real one. When he will finally let down his guard and really smile, the effect is contagious and his entire being seems to light up.
Girls are a subject Kaius isn’t well versed on. He likes girls, to be sure, but he is more than a little naive when it comes to the female species. He probably wouldn’t know if a girl was flirting with him unless they asked him to sleep with them, even then, he’d be awkward and unsure of himself. Girls are the only ones that can make him break his usual emotionless façade that he usually has going on…but they also only give him something to further brood about.
Despite all this, he isn’t afraid to speak his mind or of confrontation. He wouldn’t dare run away from a fight and is probably a bit too eager to defend his honor than is necessary. Though he doesn’t have the build of most of the Hold boys, he is quick on his feet and surprisingly agile. He doesn’t have the endurance of most of the stocky boys, but he’s a good and hard worker, putting most of what he has into finishing tasks.
It doesn’t take a lot to necessarily befriend Kaius. That’s actually the easy part, because while he is reserved, he is at the same time thirsty for acceptance and will take anyone as a friend. He’s trusting this way, probably a little too much for his own good. At the same time, getting into his inner circle is whole other ball game, and much more difficult. He will only reveal his emotions and parts of his past to those he considers particularly important, should that be a best friend, weyrmate, or perhaps a lifebond?
History:Kaius was born to Lighttower Hold eighteen turns ago. Born to a terribly stereotype of a family, his mother was a meek, mousy woman by the name of Adeana, and his father was an ironfisted, domineering man named Varian. The pair was a usual one for the hold, having been put together while they were still teenagers and engaged in an arranged marriage. Neither loved the other. Adeana less so of the two. Varian saw the woman mainly as a trophy though, because she was a very pretty girl in her youth, and despite whatever misgivings she might have had, she was expected to wed Varian, and so she did.
An almost literal baby machine, Ade sired five of Varian’s children, three boys and two girls. The two elder boys, Unnac and Reel were perfect examples of Lighttower material. They made their father proud and treated their mother with the same sort of disrespect that their father did. Eager to keep the possible little Varians coming, Adeana had more children, another boy and then two girls. Being literally stuck in the middle of this large family, Kaius wasn’t prepared for being so different from his siblings. Even the way he held himself was different. He wasn’t disrespectful to his mother, in fact, he loved her…adored her from an early age. He grew up to be her protector…her champion, helping to guard her from the rest of his family.
The two girls of the family were as different as night and day. Leana being a stocky, thick girl, as mean in disposition as her father and brothers and Mara being a thin, spindly girl with an attitude as light as her body. She and Kaius were extremely close and kinda had to be to make it through what they made it through as children. Varian treated Mara with the same disdain that he treated her mother, but Leana was raised to almost the status of the two male sons. Kaius was disregarded completely, too different to even be worth the trouble. Though he was mostly ignored, save for when he was trying to protect his sister and mother, he was put to work in the family’s lighthouse almost as soon as he could walk. Given the hardest tasks, there was almost no respite in his work, and for several long years, Kaius was treated as little more than a drudge in the eyes of most of his family.
Even so, this didn’t keep him from trying to stick up for his mother and sick of him and his insolent sister Mara, the siblings were soon to be married off, to get them out of their father’s hair. Mara was married to a stuffy, boring man in the northern part of the hold. Despite her not loving him, he wasn’t as domineering as Varian was to Adeana, so she could live with the fact that she would likely not ever love her husband. Unsurprisingly, Kaius was to be wed to a woman very much like his younger sister Leana, luckily for him, he was searched to Selenitas. It seemed to be very lucky since search dragons rarely came to Lighttower in the first place and when they did they scarcely found acceptable boys to take back to the weyr. So, he was in the right place at the right time and was able to leave his family, though he always hoped that his mother was alright. He wants to one day be able to take her away from her awful husband and let her live the rest of her life at the weyr.
3015 - Was left standing at Millieth's desert hatching and became aware of the Wasteland presence at the weyr. Was disgusted by the culling of the baby dragons, but really didn't have anymore reason to really care.
3016 - Met Casiloy, thought he was pretty damn weird. Happened upon Harmony's hatching and impressed the eternal pain in his ass known as King. Became Casiloy's 'sex kitten'...wasn't too pleased about that, but still became close friends with the boy. Met Lilu, did her chores, crushed on her for a while.
3017 - There's an earthquake, oh no! Goes to make sure Lilu is alright, Saves Rosanna from a certain death! Elisabeta is a bitch and strips his candidate rank from him because he didn't listen to her. Starts to hate her. Somehow gets it back again and stands at Millieth's billiards hatching. Is left standing, but Lilu and Casiloy, now C'loy, both impress. Lilu changes and Kaius finds his feelings for her changing dramatically. He still wants to be friends with her, but he no longer has a crush on him.
He meets Sydney at the hatching, and they hang out for a while, and he meets Sena through Sydney and the three become fast friends. He and Lilu talk things out, he tells her that he no longer feels the same way about her and they part on uncertain terms. He hangs out with Sena and Syd some more, and somehow becomes Sena's crutch for Eikask's hatching. He doesn't intend on impressing, because he's a dragon candidate only, dammit! I guess the babies can't really smell that and he ends up getting mauled along with a Sena and impresses to gold wher Kaiusk. He has a hard time adjusting to wherhandler schedule, but he deals.
Realizes that he has feelings for Sena, but is too much of a fail to tell her. Fortunately, Kaiusk prods him repeatedly until he tells her and the two start going out...even though Kaius is the most awkward person everrrr.
3018 - Some monsters attack the weyr, killing Darmori and Darmosk; Ceryl and Cerysk, but Kaius and Kaiusk can't do anything about it because she's just a baby. So she just ends up trying to calm her siblings and help her mom out. King actually catches the gold Leviathan and has a clutch of babies with her, but he has to share them with Asshat. Not cool. Kaius gets sat on by Cainith.
3019-3023 - Isn't really involved in the war at all, so he barely pays attention to that. Works a lot with Eikane to become a proper goldhandler, even though he probably never will because Kaius is a perpetual fail, but it's okay because he has Sena and Kaiusk to make him not so fail. He and Sena move in together after graduation; become weyrmates. Kaius has her maiden run and gets caught by Casansk. Kaius clings to Sena for the duration of the run. He freaks out when the crafters get extradited, but Sena gets to stay because of Kaiusk. Is less freaked out but is freaked out a little when Eikane gets shipped off to Selenitas Hold. Doesn't think he's ready to be the sole goldhandler in the weyr, and Kaiusk is sad that her mom's gone, but they deal. Sydney also gets sent away, which is a blow for Kaius. He knows that Sena wanted to make up with her, and so did he, but with her at a hold, he doesn't think that will be able to happen soon. Still wants to be friends with Sydney. Forever bffs with C'loy.
Dragons/Whers/Fire Lizards/Salamandyrs:
Recurring Gold
Bonded to: Kaius
Name: Kaiusk
Age: Five Turns
Color: Gold #CFB53B #CDAD00
Physical Appearance: This gold is on the small side for her colour, only about the same size as an average large bronze. Despite this smaller size, this gold is frighteningly strong. A fair portion of her size is actually sheer muscle and she wears it extremely well; this gold is far from being bulky. Her claws and fangs are wickedly sharp, too. Not a gold you want to mess with. Her tail breaks from this strongly muscled form. Her tail is almost whip-like in how long and thin it is. It's also so dextrous it actually borders on being prehensile. If that wasn't bad enough, her wings are positively huge. To the point where she actually has trouble folding them to her back. Throughout her life, the tips of her wings will slowly get more rough due to the fact that she lets them drag along the ground a little.
The Recurring gold has a fairly simple but striking colouration. Most of her is a simple old-gold colour with patches where the shine of her hide seems to have simply rubbed off. Curiously, these patches fall over places where friction might be frequent, such as her belly, joints, her shoulders where a person might sit. A newer, though not much brighter, shade of gold circles this gold's eyes like giant lenses. These 'lenses' are so large they almost touch each other. This same newer gold colour creates three bands around this gold's form, much like a clownfish's markings. The first one starts just behind her head and covers her entire neck, the second one covers her middle and part of her wings, and the final one starts at the base of her tail and stops half way along her tail.
While one might expect a gold to try and move with grace, this girl will shatter those expectations. This is not to say she's even half as clumsy as her dam. She's not. Every movement she does is simply functional. It works and it doesn't matter how it looks. There is a beauty in the simple mechanics of moving, after all. That said, there's a faintly predatory undertone to her movements. She's so unconsciously in tune with what she would be in nature that it translates a little physically. Her huge wings will hinder her in her youth but eventually she'll find a way to work with them, in both simple walking and in gliding so perfect it's actually beautiful.
Personality: The Recurring Gold is odd for her colour in some aspects and yet perfect in others. This gold is completely humble in regards to her colour. A shiny hide means nothing special to her. In fact, she tends to favour browns and most especially blues. They're just kind of...really adorable for males? She gets along with greens well too, of course, but cute and female seem to go paw-in-paw with her. So yes, humble and warm and friendly is this gold. She's everyone's friend but most importantly she is everyone's mother too. In that aspect she's the perfect gold. Always so concerned about everyone and willing to scold them if they're being silly.
This gold's scolding is nothing to sneeze at either. She's downright terrifying when she scolds, teeth bared and tail usually hooking around any nearby objects and sending them flying towards the scoldee. She's a great mediator between others if only because she'll snarl right in their faces and tell them everything they're doing that's stupid in whatever argument they may be having then tell them to make up. Usually, others listen. Despite her build and her occasional switch-temper this gold is highly non-violent. She can fight, a little, but she doesn't unless it's dire circumstances.
This gold's prowess lies not necessarily in strength or intelligence. She's smart enough, certainly, but still way outshadowed by some of her clutchsiblings. No, this gold's greatest asset is her understanding of the emotions of all things. She could use that understanding to manipulate others but she doesn't. She uses this understanding to inspire and to comfort. She goes to great lengths to ensure her position in others' hearts that she can be confided in and will be there for them when they really need it. This may strike some as an attempt to be seen as a leader but she really, really doesn't mean it that way. Let the big tough males lead if they like.
Caramel Bronze
Name: King
Age: Seven Turns
Born: June 3016
Color: Base 808000 Stripes EEC900
Species: Mandyr
Looks to: Kaius
Physical Appearance:
Nose to tail tip, color pattern for color pattern this bronze is identical to his egg twin and it will be near impossible to tell them apart based on looks alone. Small for a bronze he will end up somewhere about the size of your average large brown. He’s not an overly muscular bronze either. No in fact he has a rather lean frame, but don’t that that fool you the wiry muscle he sports can be clearly seen. He’ll be rather strong despite his appearance and easily be able to match stamina with even some of the bigger bronzes of his species when he chooses to try. His wings are of a decent length and width. They will never be able to support extended flight but for short bursts and gliding they are more than enough. His tail is about average in length and very strong. He will be fond of using it much like an extra appendage to ease in climbing or to grab things. Behind his head the bronze sports the same sharp tipped spines his dam is known for.
Far from the brilliant orange or copper bronze shades some bronzes are born with his male is green bronze. The shade having quite a few greenish undertones. In fact the metallic sheen present on his hide in the sun also bears that same greenish cast to it. Accenting the green bronze are veins of gold elegantly painted along his back and swirling around both eyes. The tips of all four feet are the same glimmering gold as are the bands that fall in rings down his tail. Very much making him look like he has adored the appendage with rings of various sizes.
Personality:
When it comes to personality this is where he and his brother differ widely. Extremely intelligent this male has a vocabulary on par with most queens. While his grammar will never be perfect he nonetheless speaks with poise. He speaks only when he deems it important and is never loud or obnoxious. No he’s most often quietly contemplative. He carries himself with a regal grace. He knows he’s bronze and obviously doesn’t feel the need to flaunt it. In fact he is quite pleasant to nearly everyone he meets. There is something of a commanding air to him but he isn’t overbearing about it. Instead he’s quite polite and gives requests that most seem perfectly happy to comply with. After all he asked nicely didn’t he? He’s very loving to his bonded, and any family his bonded might acquire also neatly fall under his ‘protection.’ He’s not the type to walk over anyone. In fact he’s more liable to try and help someone out rather than push them back in the dirt. He seeks to endear himself to the mandyr population. To gain loyal subjects. His goal is obviously to become their king. To be worshiped and loved as is his apparent birthright. Brother be damned.
Firelizards are outright ignored as creatures of low intelligence that are obviously on a level below mandyrs like himself. He doesn’t hassle them but nor does he acknowledge their existence in anyway shape or form. They are like shadows to him and that is all. To other mandyrs he is polite and friendly. Perfectly willing to listen to their problems and perhaps make things a bit better for them if it is within his power. Helping them ensures that in the future the bronze can call upon them to do his work. It’s all in careful planning and preparation. The only mandyr that seems exempt from his good graces is his brother. From birth the twosome have been at each others throats. Despite his good manners his brother can easily throw this bronze into spectacular rages and it will be very common to see the two bickering back and forth with the occasional escalation into violence. Despite this the twins will never seek to actually kill each other. Although the threat will most certainly be made. Perhaps it is good for the mandyr population that the two seem to thwart each other at every turn. In matters of mating this bronze will chase the occasional green but will by no means be faithful to her. No he needs a queen for true kingship. Should he ever catch one he will most definitely seek to mate for life. All he needs to rule his kingdom properly is a golden one at his side.
