& King & Asshat
The Divinations Clutch
Being difficult was the name of the game for Leviathan. She found it only appropriate to camp out in the middle of the dining hall, and commandeer a table on which she could meticulously guard the hardening clutch. Since she was no less than a queen however, gingham picnic cloth would not due as an adequate nest for her progeny. The gold had her throne of sand, and with every day it grew, the glittery, yellow, granules spilling out over the edge of the counter and causing a small mess on the floor underneath it. The highest mound kept her rested above her brood of eight, all closely bunched together in the shadow of a draped wing and dangling tail that looped down and around to further guard them. Should she even have to dare exert herself and step away however, the mandyr queen had a plan. Two smaller hills sloped up on either side of her impressive alter, bearing little depressions at the top where her male consorts - King and Asshat - were often commanded to stay for a mixture of companionship and appearances. One had to admit there was great prestige in the ability to wield such power on mere whims. Power over her males, and over her bonded alike. Osnat was only begrudgingly cooperative, but nonetheless fullfilled Leviathan's wishes more often than not, under the premise that amusing the gold was far simpler than butting heads. Besides, the time was coming near for the eggs to hatch, and then just maybe the hair pulling and groaning could end for just a little bit.... or at least until she runs again.
This time around the blue weyrling had been sent on a sand fetching mission. Knowing that Levi did not accept anything other that the sand of the hatching grounds themselves, Osnat was left marching back into the busy dining hall with a pair of small but full buckets balanced in her hands. It was a wonder she hadn't been harassed yet - by leadership or at least the kitchen staff - for hijacking the public sphere for her pet's own benefit. It most likely had to do with the gold's foul attitude towards anyone who interfered with her grand plans... and by extension upset any of her favorite slaves. No doubt there was a great deal of hissing and feral screams launched at any brave soul who dared creep a little too close to the odd rock like eggs she had laid. Even Osnat was fully capable of such a mistake, and dumping the sand unceremoniously into a heap over the clutch received another berating speech from the gold, Ssssstupid! Dunnn hurt the eggsies! She gave one egg a rare affectionate nudge, Eggsies hatch soon. Need bury not with Ossies big dumb man hands!
At least it would be all over soon, she reminded herself before hissing back at the beast like the sailor she was, "Dun matter! Your eggsies are ugly as sin anyway. They need to be hidden!" On that note the weyrling was very much right. Never before had there been a bunch of eggs so... so mundane, and with little more than size that can be used to differentiate them. Primarily gray, the spheres resembled concrete forms, speckled with bits of black on some of them and veined with lines of onyx on others. A larger one rests close to the queen with another darker egg of similar size tilted against one of his sire's beds. Then, half buried by sand suddenly began to quiver, instantly distracting a seething and enraged Leviathan from giving Osnat a good tongue lashing. Instead it was all alarms for the first signs of hatching, the queen flashing her red half-frill and immediately summoning King and Asshat, WHERE ARE INFIDELS? KING ASSHAT COME NOW! This is happens when you let mendyrs go an leave me to work all on own.
Stopping short of sulking about her missing minions, the gold immediately took to calling forth every able person not just in the dining hall, but the entire weyr. She needed worthy hosts for her babies! Rising to her feet she summoned, Want my babies. Not question! Come and meet best. COME COME COME COMMAND OF QUEEN! It was well known too, that she would not top short of going out into the crowds eating their lunches and dragging them forward, but really she'd rather the willing come first. It makes for much much better bonds in her not so humble opinion. Now.... where on Pern was her bronze and brown?
