Rom didn’t mind that Nitrath had addressed the other bronzes when she had addressed him. It didn’t matter. At least she had spoken to him. He had participated in gold flights where the queen couldn’t deign to lower herself to speak to her chasers. Of course, he never did entertain the notion that Nirath could quite possibly be like that. He had thought he knew the fold well enough to realize that she wasn’t like that…at all. Where others might have been bothered by the fact that the gold had included others in her message, Romeoth was just thrilled that she was even talking to him.
As Nitrath ascended into the clouds, Romeoth let out a croon of pure happiness and shot off after her. Like before, he decided to take his time. Lazily, he dipped into the clouds, enjoying the feeling of pleasantly wet droplets on his scales before he shot back out and then back down again, almost looking like a sky dolphin as he “leaped” through the clouds. Rom was enjoying Nitrath, and the flight as a whole, and he watched the other chases with barely concealed amusement. Chuckling lightly into the minds of all dragons present, he decided to play with his competition. Why couldn’t he have fun? This was the most exhilarating flight of his life, and not having the pressure of this flight deciding weyrleaderhood, he thought he could afford to have a little bit of fun.
Romeoth’s first target was Weith. The bronze had accepted the bigger bronze’s acknowledgement with a mental nudge of his own, speeding up a little to catch up with the bronze before snapping his wings hard and coming up right beside Weith. Crooning in amusements, he would let a wingtip graze the other bronze’s back before he was oiogone, disappeared into the clouds to find his next target. So good to see you, Sparath. He crooned to the next dragon, dipping beneath Sparath, not quite touching the other bronze and finishing a little loop where he flew in one circle around the pale bronze. Having a good time, Sparath? I’m certainly enjoying myself…though it seems like someone… And he glanced pointedly upwards. …needs to learn to loosen up a little.
With another amused chuckle, the copper bronze thrust his wings and suddenly shot up into the air out of the clouds, straight for Higginth. At first, it might have seemed like Romeoth was going to collide with the greenish bronze, instead, he veered at the last second to pull himself up over Higginth, brushing his claws very lightly against the length of the other bronze’s spine. Counting our chickens before they hatch, ay, Higginth? Oh well…I’m sure the clouds won’t mind. Romeoth crooned, dropping like a stone back into the clouds, hopefully before Higginth could react.
Once back into the clouds, Romeoth zoomed along, the burn in his chest and wings settling into a strange but comfortable (for now) numbness that he took advantage of, flipping and dipping below and around and above the other chasers. He gave a happy croon here, and a delighted purr there. The more the merrier! The bronze practically chirruped, following Sparath’s example and flipping and circling the older bronze in a playful manner. How’s your giggle, dear Kierjaarth? I’m sure enjoying your presence. He came up beside the older bronze, flicking him gently on the flank and back with his tail. Oh you are an enigma, now aren’t you? Romeoth chuckled, going to find someone else to mess with. Chaoth was harder to find than the bronzes due to his smaller size, but before he knew it, he was coming up behind the brown. She is lovely, isn't she? He asked brightly, batting at the brown's tail before flying under Chaoth and doing wide loops around the brown, several in fact. Once or twice he would tough the brown before he crooned. This is great fun. He said to Chaoth before addressing the flight as a whole. I just can't wait to see how it ends. Can you? He asked Chaoth mischievously before taking his leave of the brown before shooting after Nitrath again. He had spent enough time playing.
Time for the flight.
With one more affectionate nudge at Weith’s mind, Romeoth focused on Nitrath, dipping in and out of the clouds like he had done earlier. I do so love tricks! He crooned to the gold, not quite on her tail like earlier. He brushed the gold’s mind affectionately before chuckling lightly. I’d like to show you some! another bright quip before he spun horizontally in the air. He was probably going to lose some speed like this, but it wasn’t like he really cared to be on the lovely gold’s tail, after all, if she wanted him, she would choose him regardless of where he had chosen to fly. He knew she knew he was here, and that’s all that mattered to him.
Picking up speed, Romeoth suddenly folded his wings in dropping at an angle until he was below Nitrath and he leveler out, doing some little spins beneath her. They weren’t the most agile thing around, but it was probably strange to see the big bronze flipping and cavorting around the chases and the gold, before he would flip over onto his back, still following where he thought Nitrath would be. Are you sure you haven’t done this before, Nitrath? You’re definitely doing a lovely job at it. You’ll have to teach me those tricks sometime. He flew beneath Nitrath, flipping back over onto his belly.
While Romeoth was having a grand time playfully teasing his competition, K’ian wasn’t doing all too well. There were a lot of people now, and all of them were doing something different. He was surprised when Caden mentioned wrestling and the tall man blinked at her for a second. Wait…what? A wrestling match? He didn’t really like fighting. He did what he had to to protect his home, but wrestling on the whims of a little girl wasn’t high on his list of priorities. So, when M’gnum walked over to him, K’ian eyed him for a minute. It seems that the girl had already been spoken for…he thought, glancing over to Chaoth and Weith before looking back to M’gnum.
"Careful." He said with an amused smirk. "I wouldn’t wanna break you." He said playfully before lifting his hand and lunging at the older man, hoping to wrap his powerful arms around the other man’s head. Sure, if his attack hit, he wouldn’t hurt the man, he would just hold him there looking at Caden expectantly, almost like a family pet striving to please. If that didn’t connect, K’ian would be quick on the draw, drawing his leg towards M’gnum in an attempt to sweep his feet out from under him and tripping the other man…and also holding him there until Caden looked.
Wasn’t he a good wrestler?

Nitrath periodically dipped below or appeared above the clouds, enough to catch the various chasers' tricks. They all just kept raising the bar, playful and earnest by turns, most of them doing their best to show off whatever special talents they had. Not everyone was, of course; Kierjaarth's sudden appearance made her twist sideways with a little giggle, flicking her tail in his direction. Noted, and forgiven, she replied, But a dragon so quick and quiet has nothing to apologize for. As he faded back into the clouds and Weith took his spot, she dropped down, considering the others. Higginth's call brought her above the clouds, and she took a moment to admire his display before dropping away again, humming from her cloud cover, Indeed, thread-fighting ability is a worthy trait to consider. It is not the only one, however... Like Romeoth's dance, his playfulness, his charisma, his desire to involve everyone. That made her laugh. And his complements, those were good too, but so were Higginth's, and Sparath's, and Dsoleth's. She still had plenty of time before she had to make a decision, after all.
A few, however, seemed to have already made theirs. With a sad croon for Dsoleth, she bid him farewell. Thank you, Dsoleth! You were a worthy competitor. Do not strain your wings on the way home. Not that his wings looked all that tired, a particularly shrewd part of Nitrath noticed, but the Gold wasn't one to be easily offended. Certainly he had a good reason. Just to be sure, though, she addressed Epifayrmuth and Chaoth privately. My lovely males. Please, make sure not to overextend yourselves! Your presence alone does me honor, and if you can make it, I would love to see you at the very end. There is still a ways to go, however, and if you must drop off I will not see it as an offense. Certainly they knew that already, and probably wouldn't appreciate the special treatment, but Nitrath couldn't help but look out for her dwarfed brother and favorite Brown, even if Chaoth nearly matched some of the bronzes.
One more had made his choice. Not the dragon; Sparath was fine, but a sharp thought from Caden pulled Nitrath's attention to the human. Don't like him. He thinks I can't hear him. I can. He doesn't like me, either, and he's being obvious about it. Least he can do is play along, this isn't any more fun for me than it is for him. Ce'thian got a dirty look, and Nitrath sought out Sparath, although her gaze was distinctly warmer. I do my best, she started, trying to figure out how best to frame her rejection. Unfortunately, your human half has not pleased Mine as much as you have pleased me - and you have pleased me, she assured him, But I cannot make my girl unhappy. I would be thrilled if you would fly with me until the end, but I will not lead you on, and you are free to go if you choose. You'll not be my mate, not this time.
With that bit of unpleasant business taken care of, Nitrath mentally gathered her remaining males, safe in a thick cloud bank. Although she looped them all in, she spoke primarily to Romeoth, as delighted as ever. I only really know one trick, she said, rolling sideways so the Bronze wasn't directly below her anymore. Thanks to Chaoth. Catch me if you can! Tucking her wings, she tilted into freefall, her greater weight accelerating her faster than the males, giving her a decent head start. Down and down, straight towards Blossom Lake, clear of the clouds now and in the turbulent, open air above the water's surface.
Caden-Nitrath was having less fun. Several of her males were doing what she'd asked - wrestling - which was all to the good. Chaoth's ready agreement made her smile, and Higginth's obedience was good too; even Weith and Romeoth's somewhat more hesitant approaches were pleasing, as both threw themselves into it once they began. It made Dsoleth leave, though - she hadn't missed his look of discomfort, but at least he had the grace to go, even if it hurt. Not Nitrath (the Gold was endlessly self-assured, among other things) but half-broken Caden took it hard. Without her dragon bolstering her mind, things might have gone sour, but right now, she was mostly Nitrath, who did not approve of fighting in the first place. Maybe this had been a mistake. Ugh, it was all so stupidly confusing.
Sparath and... the extra one (Ruskeath? Wasn't he gone?) got their glare, but the Gold seemed to have that under control. They'd leave if they wanted, otherwise the Gold had no objection to them hanging around until the end (this was sky-Nitrath without objections, not land-Nitrath). Whatever they decided, she looked around for Kierjaarth, wanting to pair him up with Epifayrmuth. That would be a good match, but Kierjaarth was nowhere to be found. Hm. Well that left Nitrath herself. "Epi? C'mere, I'll be your partner." They'd wrestled enough in Weyrling training, even if Nitrath towered over her dwarf brother by a good foot. She closed the distance between them, dropping into a crouch, waiting for him to do the same before she launched a tackle of her own.
Except something went wrong. She'd meant to grapple him, twisting an arm behind his back if possible, but somehow Nitrath found herself kissing her brother, leaning down with one hand in his decorated hair and the other around his shoulders. Once she realized what she was doing, she let go and backed off, eyes going wide as she looked around at the pairs in various stages of shoving each other to the ground. "Or that," she said, clearing her throat to get attention. "That's good too." Because the kissing was good, even if she'd backed away, and now that she'd had some, she wanted more. Much better than violence, even play violence. Selecting a male at random, she asked, "Show me?"

Higginth bristled as Romeoth invaded his personal space as he showed his talents for Nitrath, and he twisted slightly to pull away from the slightly younger dragon's claws as he whipped his tail up to drive the other bronze away from him. "What are you talking about?" he sent to Romeoth with a mixture of confusion and irritation... all he had sent this entire Flight had been directly to Nitrath, so he had no idea what the other bronze was referring to.
Trying to not let the impudent Romeoth throw him off, he settled back into his technique, and sent directly in reply to Nitrath's statement to him, "Thank you, my Queen... I realize Thread-fighting is not the only trait to consider, but it is what we dragons are made for, and though it is one of my best abilities, it is far from my only one," he concluded, with a pulse that in a human would come across as a smirk and a single raised eyebrow. He watched the following exchange, though he likely did not hear it, with a careful eye, happiness filling him as he saw more and more dragons taken out of the running.
As the final unworthy candidate was pruned from the Flight, Higginth watched Nitrath dive downward, and decided it was his time to do the same. Folding his great wings, he dropped into a dive himself, the packed-on muscle that prevented him from performing acrobatics assisting him in dropping like a bronze statue from the skies... woe be it to any dragon who got in the way of Higginth's heavy descent. Narrowing his eyes as the wind whipped past them, he watched Nitrath carefully, his greater height when starting his descent likely keeping her in easy view below him, and he prepared himself to throw his wings open the moment Nitrath herself did so.
On the ground, M'gnum faced off with the younger K'ian, dropping into a wrestling stance the moment the other man did. M'gnum was far from a grappling expert, spending most of his time practicing swordwork, but he did pride himself in having at least passing skill in all combat techniques, so he was far from completely helpless. It was, however, mostly his sword training that came into play as K'ian drove a hand at M'gnum's head, M'gnum's own arm parrying K'ian's arm like he would a sword stroke as M'gnum himself drove towards the slightly taller man's midsection in an attempt to wrap him in a bear hug. Whether or not he succeeded, the two men would likely end up tangled enough that when the leg sweep occurred, it would drive both men into the ground in a heap.
Even as he grappled, he couldn't help but keep an eye on Caden, since she was the reason he was here, after all. He stiffened a bit, probably allowing K'ian a few free strikes in if the younger man wasn't also distracted by the fact Caden was currently kissing one of their fellow Chasers, but soon recovered as Caden broke the kiss and cleared her throat for attention, either holding K'ian still or breaking their grapple if possible to give his attention to the young woman. Luckily for him, he was the closest to her when she chose someone to show her, and M'gnum did whatever was necessary to break himself from the grapple with K'ian, if he had not earlier, and heaved himself to his feet to wrap the smaller woman in his arms. "Of course, m'lady, I will be glad to demonstrate whatever you require of me," he said in low tones in Caden's ear, his voice deepening slightly in arousal as he dipped the girl low and kissed her deeply... as a knight devoted to ladies, M'gnum prided himself in being skilled in love as well as war.
((I'm hoping it's all right that, being the first to post after Ruby, I get to choose myself as the "random" male... if not, I can edit.))

Confusing me for a gold? It must be my hind end that dazzles you so! Weith said to Romeoth with a chuckle. If they had been on the ground, he’d have shaken his hind quarters in emphasis. He rolled in the direction of the brush with a playful, empty snap of his jaws. This was, by far, the most fun Flight he had ever been in. It was thrilling. He rolled into the wake of Nitrath again, just as she looped them all in. Then she dove, and Weith followed, snapping his wings shut and allowing himself to fall. He streamlined his form to allow himself greater speed, tensing to prepare himself yet for the inevitable pull out of the dive.
Who would fail? Who would go crashing into the lake? Who would simply skim the waters? As they neared, the bronze could see little aquatic birds resting on the lake almost obliviously. Others look up and saw the cluster of dragons barreling towards them at breakneck speeds and flew off in alarm. Weith still tensed, ready to pull. The reprieve on his wings was delightful, but the strain on them soon would be killer.
The bronzerider, the human part of Weith, allowed Merridan to talked him. He was careful though, to keep himself from cracking his head on the stone floor. In fact his butt took the brunt of the impact, and he rolled back, but refused to let his shoulders touch the floor. He simply would not allow himself to be put at such a disadvantage! R’men braced his feet on the floor, his whole body reacting to the match.
R’men was so very, very confused. First they were all fighting and then they were…what? The shred of him that could still recognize Merridan as Merridan was perfectly okay with kissing her, but Weith didn’t agree. Kiss his brother? R’men pushed on Merridan and rolled them over, hoping to pin her with his weight, purposefully getting his face alarmingly close to hers. Part of this was wrong, and part was okay; Merridan was female, but Chaoth was not. He would let his…brother?…decide if he wanted to finish the open dare.

That so, sunshine?
Dryly amused. Sparath didn’t need that whole explanation, especially when she was tripping over herself to reassure him that it wasn’t him, really; his feelings weren’t going to be hurt. That said, he also wasn’t going to stay. Waste of energy, no thank you; he’d much rather get back to the weyr and bother Onyth or Millieth. I’ll remember to leave him at home next time…and let’s save energy for the afterparty, shall we? And since it evidently didn’t matter anymore Sparath swept in closer to Nitrath when she appeared above the clouds briefly, looped her once in farewell and then went about wishing luck to the others in his own way, a drawling Look alive, Sparkles, the sunshine’s gotta wrap it up sometime, to Epifayrmuth first.
To Romeoth, brother in arms if not in blood, Sparath snaked playfully close, not bothering to conserve energy anymore, and brushed one wing down his spine and flank, purring, Do make sure Haggy up there knows that making like lightning and thunder’s only impressive if you’ve got the flash to go with the cacophony, won’t you? All yours, butterfly. A tilt of his head at the others before Sparath decided they weren’t all that important; he flipped neatly into a roundabout and caught a wind to glide downwards on, with a flick of his tail and a rumbled Au revoir sunshine…. to Nitrath.
Oh good, you’re out?
Because of you Minething, Sparath answered on an amused rumble, Do tell how you were offending the lady, hmm? Did you pee inside the house, didn’t I housebreak you already?
Ce’thian met Caden’s glare with an unapologetic calmness, managing not to actually roll his eyes at her as he answered Sparath, Sorry, rolling around on the floor with some other man who’s probably all into the Flight if you catch my drift…for a one night’s stand with a kid who was probably /being born/ around the time I Impressed you and thinks that she /is a dragon/ is a really unfortunate set of situations I’d much rather not get into, because really, was this cradle-robbing or what? Not that, apparently, M’gnum had a problem with it, since Ce’thian was pretty sure they were about the same age, and Ce’thian’s brows knitted in vague disturbed concern as the man kissed Caden.
Well. Okay.
“I’m genuinely considering the merits of being traumatized,” he joked to G’tor (quieter this time—he hadn’t been talking that loud before, but apparently the queenie had killer hearing, so he had to compensate, or whatever), and then threw a glance around the room once—to where R’men looked like he was about to take wrestling to making out and decided that nope, he was actually not sorry at all about not getting into that. “Anyway, seems like I’ve offended her, ’m gonna hit the kitchens and get food. You want to come with?”

Chaoth did not mind Nitrath's kind words. He knew he was a touch smaller than the others. The strain on his wings was likely clear, even in the clouds. Even so, he still felt he had strength left and he wasn't fool enough to stay if he didn't. He lived to push himself to greater limits and today was no exception. Fret not, dear lady, he assured her calmly. I still have strength to spare.
He eased into a soar, giving his wings a short break while he watched to see what Nitrath would wish of them next. Surprisingly, she'd dismissed one of the large bronzes and he was a bit sorry to see Sparath go. He'd been a good rival. That still left plenty of them left, however, and it seemed the game was not over yet. With an amused purr at Nitrath's next choice, Choath tucked his wings and dropped. He fell rapidly, enjoying the speed of the wind against his hide. The water rushed towards them faster and faster. How far down could they go? Chaoth focused on Nitrath alone, confident that he could break when she did. If he let up too soon, he might loose his chance.
Merridan was pleased. R'men was not as unsure as he'd first seemed. Indeed, she was looking forward to a long and worthy battle. She'd tried to push him further down, but he was fighting back admirably. Something caught in the corner of her eye though and Mer turned. Caden was kissing Mor'ya! But, was it over? That was unfair! She growled in her throat and the distraction let R'men roll her over. She blinked up at him for a moment, then gave him a cocky smile. So Caden wanted them to prove more than strength, she could do that.
Mer raised her head and pecked R'men on the nose with a small kiss. "Mistaking me for someone else, brother?" she quipped. Then she pushed him back and rolled free. She didn't like being held down. Where was the fun in that? She was not chasing him, as amusing as that was. She glanced over at Caden, now engaged with M'gnum and felt another pang of jealously. She shrugged and smiled. It was Caden's game after all, not hers.
~
"Oh?" G'tor had been trying not to watch the rest of the room and frowned a little. Were Flights always this interesting and he was too wrapped up to notice. Then he understood Ce'thian's words and shrugged apologetically. "Ah, sorry about that." He couldn't help feeling a little responsible. Maybe he shouldn't have stayed to chat. At least Ce'thian didn't seem to mind. "Sure," he agreed to the suggestion, already moving towards the exit. "Maybe you can tell me the best way to apologize to Sparath on the way. Does he like fish?"

Epifayrmuth brushed lightly with affection against the edge of Nitrath’s awareness when she greeted him. Though he wondered what she said or did not say to the others he didn’t spare the matter more than a brief thought. He didn’t want to be distracted from this most excellent of competitions.
The dwarf dragon let out a small rumble at the invitation to show off his talents, it was a sad thing but Epifayrmuth’s talents were mostly combat orientated and although he probably could take out one or two of the other males before they realised and turned on him, somehow he just didn’t think Nitrath would appreciate seeing those particular talents displayed, she was a peaceful creature at heart. Instead the small bronze resolved to simply keep up his clever flying.
Taking himself up into the cloudbank was amusing; no wonder Nitrath had chosen this, even a dragon as large as she had all but vanished, to be tracked as the other occupants of the clouds were, by their shadow forms in the cloud stuff and the colours of their eyes. Although he was aware his sister couldn’t see his adroit avoidance of the other dragons that weaved among the clouds he still avoided any other male he encountered with the absolute minimum of effort, just in case efficient flight was on today’s list of impressive traits for a potential mate.
Romeoth seemed to be having good fun flirting with everyone but Nitrath, He neatly avoided the other bronze enough that they never touched, though he did silently convey his amusement with the other bronze’s unique tactic. It was certainly original thinking. It seemed to amuse Nitrath, or maybe it was someone or something else that amused her, because the thought of her laughter brushed him again and he lazily twirled in the silvery feeling of it, slowing himself down a little but it was a fun way to do so.
I do thank you, sister, for your concern but I believe I can go the distance. Epifayrmuth’s reply to Nitrath’s concerns lacked both the coldness and the arrogance that one might expect in such a statement. He was somewhat tired, yes, but so far fine to continue. His words were simply a reflection of his self assurance as Nitraths were not an insult but a reflection of her caring nature.
Sparath seemed to be rejected, but in good cheer, which Epifayrmuth found very appropriate, somehow in keeping with the tone of his sister’s Flight. Alive and still in the running Glitterbug! He sent cheerfully and privately to the other bronze, playfully snapping his jaws in the larger male’s general direction before returning his focus to where it mattered.
Folding his wings neatly Epifayrmuth dropped like a stone, his tail lashing in an effort to provide some guidance to his flight, or rather his fall. He, at least had taken the precaution of making sure he had some clear air below him, so danger could only come from above. Unless one counted panicked waterfowl as danger that was.
Mo’rya blinked. Wrestle? Enough of the rider remained that he began to wish he never made that silent inquiry. He didn’t want to get thrashed by some huge sweaty guy, thanks. Epifayrmuth was aware he was capable in combat, Mo’rya was aware that he fought like a girl. So as his rivals began pairing up and sparring Mo’rya simply tried to blend in with the scenery.
Apparently he was nothing like a wall, no matter how hard he tried, because Caden noticed him, looked around for someone to pair him off with, and found that she had and odd number of chasers in the room with her. Though she called him by his bronze’s name Mo’rya moved forward, partly thrilled that he’d been noticed, and partly resigned because being paired off with Caden was hardly easier, she was probably still a way better wrestler than him, though she seemed a little confused now that wrestling was in progress, and she was all sweaty too.
Mo’rya took a defensive stance, raising his hands, which were also his wings, and his claws, to defend himself against whatever his opponent might throw at him, infected by Epifayrmuth’s perceptions and his cool assurance. One thing neither the Mo’rya or the Epifayrmuth of him was prepared for was what ended up happening. The young bronzerider found himself pinned against his larger sister gold, with his raised hands trapped between them. It didn’t seem to matter too much that he was trapped though. Not when he was being kissed, although he wasn’t sure why, or even how this had happened. Even the hand tangled in his hair, keeping him trapped didn’t seem to matter; in fact he just found it an excuse to press even closer to Caden and reciprocate a bit more.
Maybe that wasn’t she wanted either, although it had seemed to be, because Caden soon pulled away, and still looked confused. Or maybe it was because she seemed to intend to try that sort of wrestling with some of his rivals now. Confusing but fun, he decided.

So. Higginth hadn’t been pleased with Romeoth’s playful jests? The bigger bronze didn’t care overly much. He didn’t really have the time worrying about silly uptight bronzes who thought the sun rose and fell with them. Let them. He chuckled into Higginth’s mind, forcing himself not to ask the other bronze if the stick in his ass was very painful or not. Indeed. Was sarcastically shot to Higginth when the smaller bronze spoke. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to read the bronze’s body language and tell that he thought he was a special little snowflake. It didn’t take a healer to tell that he was as full of himself as the clouds they were flying through at the moment. And he had the audacity to feign ignorance. For once, Romeoth felt a twinge of anger tendriling around his heart as he thought about this. Eyes flashed slightly orange, but were soon back to violet as the other males intervened.
Why should he worry about an uptight egomaniac who had about as much chance with Nitrath as a salamandyr?
He let none of his previous anger show. He wouldn’t let the beast get him in a bad mood, not when others were willing to play with him…and Nitrath was as well. As Weith spoke, Romeoth chuckled again, his words for Weith alone. Oh yes, my dear Weith. You have the loveliest backside I’ve ever seen! There was sarcasm there, but it was terribly playful, and he flicked his tail at the larger bronze as Weith passed. Twisting himself slightly in midair to watch Sparath take his leave. I think that one’s beyond saving, my friend. Let us just hope he doesn’t burn down the weyr in the process. He crooned privately as Sparath passed him, accepting the other bronze’s brush with a rumble in the back of his throat.
Then he sensed Nitrath moving, her massive bulk rolling out from above him. Oh really? Romeoth asked with a little laugh, not bothering to hide this from the others. What was the point? Such a tempting offer. Romeoth purred to Nitrath as the gold folded in her wings and suddenly dropped like a stone. At the first sign of action, Rom was spurred into action. Being the male closest to her, when he folded his wings in and dropped with her, he was the first one in line. He could sense that there was someone close to him, but he didn’t bother to look. As long as it wasn’t Higginth, he would be fine. Wind whipped past his face as he looked to Nitrath, affectionately brushing her mind…Lead the way, lovely. I’m right behind you.…before looking to the lake. He couldn’t help but wish Higginth would crash right down into the water. Maybe that would cool him down a little. He was so full of hot air.
Regardless of what happened, Romeoth kept Nitrath in the primary of his vision and the lake in the peripheral. This was a nice test, one nod done before in any queenflight he had been a part of, but it was exhilarating, and it was fun all at the same time. His earlier thoughts had been proven correct…Nitrath was one of a kind.
Below, when M’gnum dropped into a wrestling stance, K’ian had to keep from bursting out laughing at how ridiculous the man looked. He didn’t do this very often…did her? Growing up in Bendon, they were taught all different ways to fight, and they didn’t have silly little stances. The more time you wasted on stances was more of a chance to get your throat slit. Still. He realized the man wasn’t a complete lay about…even if he was sort of strange, and a little disconcerting. As such, K’ian didn’t presume to underestimate the man.
His first strike was deflected, and he felt something heavy impact his torso. His hands shot out though, keeping M’gnum off of him long enough for his leg sweep to connect with the man’s ankles. They both fell to the floor, but K’ian managed to keep from becoming too entangled with the other man. Already his smell was causing his stomach to turn. He snorted as M’gnum finally broke free of the melee, and kept himself from expressing what he thought of the other man’s sudden disinterest in doing what Caden wished of them. Still, he looked to Caden, smiling charismatically at her (which was probably mostly Romeoth’s influence), getting to his feet smoothly in time to see M’gnum wrapping his arms around Caden.
What? I don’t even…were K’ian’s only responses as he spoke. What was this man? Twenty-five, thirty turns older than this girl? It was just gross. He remembered thinking that there was no way Caden would have wanted any of this if she had had a choice in the matter and he had to keep himself back from pulling M’gnum away from the girl. He felt a chuckle in his mind as Romeoth found his rider’s mind. So…the rider was just as self absorbed and conceited as the dragon? Surely a girl who was barely of age would love sleeping with a man old enough to be her father…and more. He let a little smile play over his lips. Caden wasn’t helpless. If she didn’t want this, she’d get out of it. He knew her well enough during her time at Benden to know that she wasn’t the fragile little flower M’gnum thought she was. Whoever she eventually chose would be just that, her choice. Not some grabby old mens’ choice.

He could only rumble in amusement at Sparath's comment, playfully shooting back after a moment, You'd be surprised. As long as we've been up here even stars burn out and fall to ashes... The insistence on looping around his body - these bronzes had far too much energy in their grasps - didn't bother Kierjaarth in the least, he had certain exercises and techniques to deal with the friendly if sometimes tiresome dance. In Sparath's case he wouldn't get a chance to use them, the bronze was making an early exit, which was really too bad, he felt like he was losing an important bit of entertainment and to that he gave his sad au revoir, Leaving and I just got here. I'm wounded. Of course his definition of when he arrived was relative. He'd been chasing the whole time yes, but took long enough to engage with the other chasers. Being sociable - in the traditional sense - wasn't exactly his strong suit.
This did not stop him from using his grand skills on disruption on Romeoth who was quick to follow Sparath on the spinning helix around his body. Oh that tease. Did he think he invented the fine art of shit disturbing? Obviously the other bronze had much to learn, and let him have his fun for the moment, slyly watching him for a moment to get a notion of Romeoth's flying methods, An enigma? I didn't think you thought me such a riddle Romeoth. Though I do wonder... would I be such a pleasure to fly with if I were to win? It was a genuine question, since he supposed that one could enjoy the flight for what it was. It was just a matter of finding out if the younger dragon was one of them.
Nitrath then, made her move, dropping down in her freefall and Kierjaarth knew that he had to make some immediate movements in order to keep up with the pack. He wasn't the heaviest of the chasers, that was for sure, and there was no way that any bulk was going to help drag him down with any speed. What he could do however was pull himself into a thin arrow and stretch towards the water and ergo the gold with his snout out front. Along the way he had a little task to do however. Drifting towards Romeoth he decided to show that he could play and pester right back, and reached out for the big bronze's tail.
With his tongue.
It seemed that he was right in sensing another presence closing in on him. It was a decidedly strange maneuver but one that humored him to no end, and it ended with a harmless chomp at the air. You're fun Romeoth, he mentioned casually as he pulled his wings out in little increments, not quite ready to commit himself to a fall that would result in a belly flop of epic proportions. So with a gentle hum to the victim of his innocent prank, he found some empty air to the side where he could level out safely when the time came. It was a compliment really as evidenced by the fact that he wasn't bothering with Higginth or as he still affectionately called him... Rocinante.

Sparath had pleased Nitrath; too bad Caden was annoyed by the rider. That may be the best option... she currently has her eye on Kierjaarth because he is missing a rider, Nitrath replied, lightly teasing. After party, indeed. I'll put it on my calendar, Because that's what humans did, which made it hilarious. As if dragons needed calendars. She would search Sparath out later, though; maybe all Caden needed was some more time with Ce'thian. Once he was gone, she considered the rest, looking for anything that might cause her to reject them early. There was some tension between Higginth and Romeoth, which made her a touch nervous, but as long as it didn't come to blows she wasn't too worried. Epi and Chaoth both assured her that they were ready and willing to continue, which pleased her, and Kierjaarth was licking tails while Weith seemed to be telling Romeoth some sort of joke, although she couldn't hear what it was. She wished she could, humor was another thing she valued...
Actually, all of the dragons seemed to be busier talking to each other than talking to her. That might make a different dragon jealous, but Nitrath was just thrilled that everyone seemed to be getting along. She'd heard things, especially about Gold flights... but apparently she'd be spared most of that. She would not, however, be spared having to make a choice, she realized as she started easing her wings open, slow, like Chaoth taught her. The strain alone made it obvious that they'd been flying long enough, and she hadn't even pulled out of the dive yet. The lake surface was approaching fast, and more waterbirds had been startled into flight, big clouds of them mimicking the clouds above. Most managed to get out of the path of the dragons, but a few flocks got their trajectories wrong, fluttering past Nitrath to foul the wings and visions of the males closest on her tail.
Nitrath used that opportunity to flare her wings the rest of the way, pulling out of her dive and twisting into a roll to reduce momentum. It wasn't the fastest or most elegant recovery in the world, but it was surprising for a gold of her size. She'd clearly been practicing. Dipping slightly lower, she skimmed the lake's surface, then started climbing for the sun once again, a straight climb this time. Altitude was necessary, and she'd lost all of it. Glancing back to make sure all her chasers had made it, she ignored the slow pain developing in her wings and called down to them, Not much longer now, I promise! If they had any other plans to woo her, now would be the time. As soon as she got high enough, she'd make her choice.
Epi got a tight smile - Caden's equivalent of the beaming thing that would certainly be on Nitrath's face, if she were human - and the girl even relaxed a bit as she moved away from her bronze brother. More comfortable, more Nitrath than Caden. Pleased with her males, pleased with the flight. M'gnum's kiss she accepted with a measure of grace, although she pushed him away, too, when it had gone on long enough. He hadn't won, after all. And... well, he made her feel tiny. A glance at Romeoth told her he'd make her feel the same way. Epi and Chaoth were more her style - Nitrath was larger than everyone after all, wasn't she? - and Weith was nicely in the middle. Interesting.
Not interesting enough to keep Caden/Nitrath thinking about it, though. She could feel the gold approaching a decision, and as much as she begged for Kierjaarth, who wasn't here, the gold didn't seem to be listening anymore. She'd made her one concession for her human half, that was enough. Kierjaarth would be considered equal to the others. Speaking of, she'd only kissed two of her remaining chasers. How was that fair? "Chaoth, Weith, Romeoth? Want to show me?" Each, if they chose to step up, would be given the same treatment as the others - allowed in for all of a minute tops, pushed away when she'd had enough. And, as K'ian had noted, if they didn't let her go when she wanted them gone, she had her ways of getting them to release her.

Weith watched, trailing behind Nitrath as he and the other males were, and slowly unfurled his wings. In such a steep dive it was important to keep his eyes trained on the gold they all sought. She was so much larger than them, the largest dragon in the planet, and while Weith rivaled a small gold in size, he could still move in the air quicker than she simply by default. He watched a few birds be unluckily slow and catch in the wake of the lovely Nitrath, and as he pulled out of the dive, executing a roll just as she did, a particularly unlucky waterfowl hit his face. By the graces of Farnath it was only stunned, and the bronze didn’t watch it tumble into the water, shaking its head.
Now came the brutal climb. Take as long as you like, my Queen, he crooned. This game is most fun to play. After all, I would so love to get to know you more. The bronze couldn’t remember the last time I’d spent so much time in the air. Owing partially to the poor memories of dragons, by his reckoning this was the first time he’d ever pushed himself so far. All for pleasure, all for the pursuit of something good and not because his life, or the lives of others, depended upon it. But then, tithe raids had always been quick, ruthless endeavors.
Weith powered his wings now, assuming a slow, steady pace of powerful down-strokes and quick up-strokes. The fight now was two-fold; against gravity as well as to keep close to Nitrath. She had tempted them before, and she was tempting them again. However, the muscles that guided his wings were screaming out again. This had been a most brutal Flight; long and grueling. A fine test indeed.
“Maybe,“ the dragonrider smiled. R’men nearly went after Merridan again, ready to trip her and once again gain the upper hand. He stopped dead in his tracks though when Nitrath-Caden called him. He turned his head to look at her, an amused smile on his face. “As you desire, lovely,” he commented, most definitely a compliment that, beyond the throes of Flight-lust he would not have given toward the masculine girl. The fact was that R’men was secretly a bit shallow and she simply wasn’t his type. Wile many traditionally favored a goldrider simply for the power they gained, New Selenitas (Burymu?) was ruled by a council. There was little to no power to gain from Flying a queen…even a Junior Queen.
R’men approached Caden slowly, a bit of a swagger in his step. He inched closer allowing her room to move. “Ladies first,” he muttered, only for her to hear. Perhaps she had wanted him to make the first move, to close the space himself, but R’men had never been that way. He truthfully hadn’t had much experience with women and it was probably showing. Was he using “manners” as an excuse to let her take the lead? Possibly. He certainly wasn’t the first one to ever do that, and he wouldn’t be the last. After all, this was Nitrath-Caden’s game, and the last thing he wanted to do was break the rules.

Kierjaarth had amused Romeoth. It wasn’t all that odd for someone to amuse him, but he honestly liked the other bronze. It probably wasn’t in his best interest to actually like the competition, but whatever. Not like he could change that. To the older bronze’s question, Rom would let out a bellowing laugh. The end result doesn’t negate any pleasure I might be feeling when it comes to flying with you, dear Kier. Nitrath’s choice is her own. Why should I be bitter over something that I cannot change? Then his attention was solely on Nitrath, and he was on her tail again. It might not have been his strategy to stick close to her when the flight was just beginning, but at the end it paid to be close to the female.
He didn’t have to be the closest however. He chuckled as Kier played with his tail, projecting good natured amusement into the bronze’s mind. Glad I could be of service. He said, almost noticing immediately afterwards that Nitrath’s wings were opening. Bracing himself, he began to open his own wings. He was smaller than the gold, which made it easier for him to pull out of the dive, but she seemed to be having a better time of it. Birds flew towards him, one hit his wing, causing him to spin slightly in flight. It worked to his advantage though, because just as he was opening his wings to correct for the mistake of the bird, Nitrath was rolling. They were dangerously close to the lake now, and Romeoth spread his wings the rest of the way, flipping through the air. He didn’t quite clear the lake though, and he felt cold water on his legs as his feet dipped into the lake.
The bronze strained his wings against the air, the muscles in his wing joints burning as the rest of his weight fell and he tried his best not to go tumbling in the water as the momentum left him. Successful in this, but with decidedly less energy, he shot up towards Nitrath, eager to make up any momentum he lost. Everything was burning and aching, but he tried to ignore it for the moment. Her words renewed his vigor and he flew straight towards her. He realized that this was a race. If he was suffering so, there was no way that she would have the energy for anymore acrobatics.
It was like a switch had been flipped in the bronze’s head. The presence of his competitors had been wiped from his mind. He knew they were there. How could he forget the feeling of breath on his heels? The male’s wings burned as he thrust them, trying harder and harder to catch up with the golden queen. What would you like me to do, dear Nitrath? If you’d like, I could write your name in the sky. Heart pounded in his chest. If the wind blows it away, I would write your name in the sand. The wind whipped past his head. The sea waves would likely wash that away, and if it did, I could write it on my heart… So close…it would end soon, he could tell. …forever to stay.
Whatever her choice would be, it was hers. Romeoth would not force the hand of any female.
K’ian wasn’t sure he was feeling so certain. As Caden pushed away from M’gnum and turned her attention to the three left standing, his eyes widened slightly. He watched as R’men approached the queen, the feeling of the wing rushing into Rom’s face causing the human half of the bond’s adrenaline to rush through his veins. He waited for the bigger bronze to finish, wherein he would wait long enough for her to give him a sign of approval before he would lower his face to hers, one hand lightly touching her back as he kissed her. K’ian would take the entire minute, free hand lightly touching her jawbone to tilt her face upwards into the path of his lips. He would release her abruptly though, running his fingers along her jaw and giving her a charismatic grin and a wink. “ Lovely queen you are indeed.” What part of that statement was Romeoth and what part was K'ian? He wasn't keen on finding out.

Glad that Romeoth had found another dragon to pester, Higginth took only a second to verify the location of the fellow Chasers as they all plummeted towards the lake, before returning his attention to his golden prize. Luckily, his height well above the others when the descent began meant he was, despite his bulk bringing him closer to some of the lighter Chasers as they all fell, still quite a bit distant from Nitrath, so he was able to watch her wings carefully and match their opening himself, carefully easing the webbing open so as to avoid ripping it with a sudden move. His wing muscles burned with renewed vigor as they took on the weight of his body once more, but he had been careful... he still had plenty of stamina left to win this out.
Higginth chuckled silently to himself as he saw some of the closer Chasers get a face full of waterbirds, and he snapped one out of the air with his powerful jaws as he leveled out and skimmed over the top of the water in pursuit of Nitrath. Swallowing his treat whole, he reached out and snatched another in one of his front paws before he cleared the disturbed flock, thinking it would be a wonderful gift for the surely-tired Nitrath when she chose him. Pumping his wings hard, trying to ignore the pain in his chest and wing muscles, he attempted to pull up beside Nitrath, responding to her statement with, "No need to apologize. Any bronze with the stamina worthy of you should have no problem no matter how long you fly." Crooning to the young gold, trying to hide the fatigue and breathlessness behind the exclamation, he rolled a bit to the side and presented the now-dead waterbird he had captured, sending with a bit of mirth, "Look, Nitrath, if you choose me, you get a delicious post-Flight prize, as well."
On the ground, M'gnum released Caden when she broke the kiss and disengaged from him, giving a smile and slight bow as he retreated a couple steps to give her the room she desired. He quelled the aggression from Higginth when he saw the other males kissing her, though it was helped by the fact that she was obviously just testing them one at a time if the apparent timed nature of each kiss was any indication. Receiving via Higginth that the Flight would conclude soon, M'gnum simply stood by and waited for any further commands from Caden, standing with his arms clasped behind his back, refusing to slouch or look lazy as he awaited the duo's decision.

Chaoth delighted in the rush of air past his hide as he dropped through the air. Nitrath had only grown more graceful with practice. He purred softly, feeling pleased to have helped her in some way with her training. That didn't set him apart he knew, but it was still wonderful to see. In the end he was smaller than most of the other males, and he knew he had much to prove. It wouldn't stop him from trying though. Nothing ever stopped him from trying his best and Nitrath wasn't finished with them yet.
Chaoth ducked a little under the cloud of birds before pulling up his dive. His tail skimmed the water, drawing waves behind him as he tilted upwards again. Now was the hard part. His energy and strength were drained after the long Flight and his wings protested having to climb higher. His body longed to land and rest, or even crash into the water below. He briefly considered allowing himself to fall back, but he found he still had some hidden reserves even now. He would stay until the end and still have just enough power should Nitrath honor him with her choice. Wings pumping steady, Chaoth spared no energy with tricks. He would save his strength only for Nitrath.
Merridan turned from R'men as Caden spoke. She beamed graciously and bowed neatly to the lovely queen. "Of course, dear lady," she agreed in a purring voice. This was much better than kissing her 'brother' after all. She moved closer, graciously allowing R'men and K'ian to have their turns. Silently, she couldn't help liking how Caden was giving them all a chance to prove themselves. She was such a fair and kind queen. Dancing forward when it was her turn, Mer offered Caden a sweet, short kiss on her lips. She stayed only as long as Caden wished, dancing away with a wry smile when they were done.

The wind howling up past him made Epifayrmuth’s glow brightly with pleasure and pride for Nitrath, the dwarfed dragon was sublimely convinced that no other gold would think of such a thing as this. If the long drop down, sudden stop, and climb back to higher altitudes should weed out anyone who wasn’t strong enough or clever enough to carry Nitrath. It was possible, he supposed, that this would do for him too, but he did pride himself on having more than enough wits to make up for his tiny size.
Wings opened, just a little bit, enough to slow the bronze’s headlong plunge and, more importantly, allow him to spin out of the way of the confused waterfowl that were directly on course for him. As he whirled away and dropped below the rising birds Epifayrmuth gave a great sweep of his tail, hoping to create enough disturbance to knock the silly birds out of the path of any dragon behind/above him.
Since he was already slowing, and the surface of the lake was looming closer, Epifayrmuth spread his wings a little wider and flipped himself into a long roll, watching the world spin around him a couple of times, then, as his gathered momentum bled off a little more he allowed himself a more controlled drop all the way to the lake’s surface. Snapping his wings out fully and bringing his body back to the horizontal plane the small bronze zipped along just above the lake surface in a controlled glide for a few moments before bright showers of water droplets to either side of him indicated that Epifayrmuth was putting some effort into gaining height.
The little dragon put all his effort into a near vertical ascent, his flight muscles staining to propel him against gravity. This close to the lake there were no helpful winds to assist him so the small and stubborn bronze fought for every foot of height he gained. Until, much to his relief, he could slip into another thermal that allowed him to soar for a while. Not much longer? Epifayrmuth rumbled softly, it seemed to him, by their behaviour, that his rivals might be saying all sorts of extravagant things to Nitrath. His own message was a great deal like him, short and to the point. I will always love you, sister mine.
