Deceased: Died In Selenitas Earthquake Plot
Name: Faolan
Gender: Male
Birth Month: August of 2989
Age: 27
Sexuality: Bisexual
Rank: Greenwherling
Father: Faustlayn (62)
Mother: Anita (57)
Siblings: 10+Fiona (27; deceased)
UPDATED: 1 June 2011
Physical Appearance: A study in opposites, this one. By the mistake of a chromosome, Faolan came out male. Not terribly tall (5'9"), willowy and graceful, his heavily-lashed light blue eyes and fawn-colored curly hair do nothing to add masculinity to his face. Nevertheless, he does have something of an aristocratic facial structure, long with a straight nose a bit long for his face, high cheekbones and thin lips. His musculature is ropey and conceals more strength than the small frame would suggest. Welts mar his back and even his upper thighs from many beatings. He favors loose, practical clothing and keeps his hair tied back at the nape.
Personality: Quiet. Hardworking. Faolan is quick to shy away from confrontations, practically cowering whenever a voice is raised in anger. His obedience is so instantaneous that it doesn't come across as quite natural. Finding a fault with it, however, is nearly impossible. The man is quick to anticipate the needs of others and often does things for them without being asked. Kindness seems to confuse him. He looks on it with a certain wariness that usually is buried deep enough beneath the outward surprise to be unrecognizable. The man can't abide being anywhere near a dragon. Particularly blue dragons.
Beneath the timid and obedient exterior, there is a very bitter, angry person. In effect the man has two personalities. The one everyone sees was created as something of a defense mechanism. Beneath that is the man who had his dragon of five turns killed before his eyes. The same man who was ground into submission at Fort Weyr, forced into life as one of the dragonless slaves and then shipped south when he proved to be subpar. 'Broken beyond utility' he was termed, but the soft-hearted southerners wouldn't know the difference. This violent second personality surfaces rarely, but when it does he's highly dangerous, especially considering it's so contradictory to how he normally is.
History:
Beginnings - 2989-3005
The youngest, along with his twin sister Fiona, of twelve children, Faolan was born and raised in a small fishing steading. They generally weren’t involved in the politics of Pern. The twins’ father had once been a dragonrider, before his dragon perished in a rescue effort when a good portion of woodlands caught on fire. Thus their mother was very much against their going to Selenitas with the Searchdragon who came to the steading. Faolan, who had always been certain he’d become a Fisher, had no real desire, but Fiona loved the idea. Their father encouraged her, and Faolan didn’t want to be separated from his twin. In that way, both Faolan and Fiona ended up on the sands for Fath’s fateful clutch.
Form Weyrling to Fort Rider - 3005-3009
Thread began to fall at about the same time that the twins Impressed their blues. Mishanth bonded to Fiona, and Wrenth to F’lan, when the twins were seventeen. This was t Toward the end of their weyrling training, however, Fiona’s blue suffered a collision where he fell to his death. Fiona herself suffered many broken bones and a concussion. No more than two tendays later, she died of sorrow – though physically she was recovering. So profound and dangerous was F’lan’s grief that the Weyrlingmaster arranged for the weyrling pair to be transferred to Fort, even in the middle of the war. There, F’lan and Wrenth developed a thick skin, and an obsession with molding themselves into some of the best fighters and fliers on Pern. They returned to Selenitas three to four turns after Wrenth was hatched – without Fort’s permission. Aslath and Shmee led the weyr by this point.
Dragonless Slave - 3009-3010
F’lan had become something of a recluse since his twin’s death, but they were still part of the search party that went in pursuit of Shmee when she was kidnapped. Emerging in the skies not far from Fort Weyr, everything went wrong. They’d inadvertently come out of Between in the middle of an aerial battle. Everything was confusion, and, directly in the middle, Salenth went missing. Wrenth and F’lan, along with several other Selenitas dragonriders, were taken prisoner when Fort proved victorious.
Wrenth was killed before F’lan’s eyes, with the bluerider helpless to do anything about it. Over the next few months, the former dragonrider was systematically broken down by masters from Fort Weyr, until he had virtually no spirit.
Emancipation - 3010-3016
He was eventually brought to a Gather at Selenitas Hold to be sold, where S’rei acquired the dragonless man in order to free him. When his firelizard Cherry died, too, S'rei sent Faolan with his daughter Shei to Blossom Hold, to S'rei's sister-in-law.The former bluerider was far more content away from the Weyr. He fished on the lake and helped look after Shei for turns. But when Wasteland took over Selenitas, Faolan arranged to return to the Weyr Wrenth had been hatched at, perhaps out of a sense of loyalty long-buried.
Wherhandler - 3016-present
The dragonless man then went on to Impress a wher, just as he'd intended; it allowed him to get away from the dragons and all the terrible memories they brought with them. Faolask receives as much love as Faolan is capable of, even if she has a nasty habit of putting him in uncomfortable situations...
Love Green
Bonded to: Faolan
Name: Faolask
Color: Green #76EE00 #96FF1A #CCFF66
Based On: Quagga
Physical Appearance: This green is, well…bright. She almost seems to glow in the darkness of the night. Almost being the key word. When she does glow before a Run it is very obvious and wince-inducing. Her base colour is a brilliant chartreuse green that darkens a few shades at her muzzle and around her eyes. Thankfully the patterns on her hide aren’t so much brighter as simply lighter coloured. As if someone let some of the almost glowiness bleed out. Wrapped around her legs and staining her belly is a lighter green that takes some active examination to actually notice the colour difference. Her tail evidently didn’t know which colour it wanted to be and ended up a strange mix of the main green and belly green that makes it look suspiciously like hair. Her head to her mid back are covered in zebra stripes of a green that is even lighter than that of her legs. As they get closer to the back the spaces between the stripes get larger and the colour eventually fades to the main colour. Her wings are marked by stripes as well.
She edges towards being on the small side for a green though she makes up for it in sheer strength. For all she’ll be nothing to look at when she hatches, she’ll grow into a green with wiry strength. Though she’ll naturally carry some soft flesh around her middle it is possible to build considerable muscle underneath it. She has smaller and closer together ridges than most whers, especially along her neck. Her head is a bit longer than her brethren and she has large eyes. Her claws have a tendency to go dull. Her bonded will have to sharpen them for her as a wherling but she may eventually get the knack of sharpening them on stones or whatever else she finds that works. She has perfectly proportioned wings for her size and a tail that is thick without being overly so.
This girl's movements are...odd. When she walks she tends to have an odd bounce and she keeps her neck in line with her spine. This is nothing more than a habit of hers though. She has no trouble lifting her head when she's stationary - or running. When she runs all out it's almost scary how fast she can be. She'll have no problem outrunning most greens. The larger colours? Forget it! They will not be able to catch her. For all her great speed, though, she'd only able to keep up her maximum speed for less than a minute. Her wings are easily capable of gliding though they are very rarely used.
Personality: This green has a very curious personality...she's almost always running to or from something. What you have to understand about this girl is three things: she loves running, she's extremely easily frightened, and if you manage to befriend her, she will stick to you like glue. Those three simple things define all her behaviour. Whether it's to get food or simply to go from A to B, this girl loves running so much that that's all she will do in order to move about. I mentioned that she can use her wings to glide? Yeah, she simply won't ever use them. Unless she like...manages to run off a cliff, which is pretty much impossible for her since she's always very aware of her surroundings.
Being the easily frightened wher that she is, anything surprising or any sudden movements can send her running. A particularily violent gust of wind? There she goes! Someone appearing around a corner? Same deal. Even Hers, loved as they are, will have to watch out for sudden movements. Assuming she is tired out from running away from things so much and something actually gets close to her when she's freaking out she'll buck about in fear and whatever came close runs the risk of getting her claws. Speaking of getting tired, this green does tire quite often in a night. She will frequently take naps in a corner of her room...while standing up. Oh yes. She can stand while sleeping. Actually, it's more like she can't sleep unless she's standing.
This lovey dovey wher (for she is indeed such a wher when not frightened) is typically physically in contact with ones she loves. Little nips, licking, and rubbing all go hand in hand with snuggling of course. Oh, and she has a tendency to try and gather as many of her loves at once. She even goes so far as to try and physically pull them together. She doesn't care whether they like her or her other company; she loves them and that is enough for her. This type of love is not platonic either. She sees many as her 'mates.' Polygamy, anyone?
