Fruit of Discord (Mandyr Hatching)

[Requiem]

Apparently apples were needed. Why apples, Dmitri had no clue. Dementia had shown no particular interest in apples in the past and was unlikely to in the future. Nor was she egg-heavy at this point in time. Did hormones remain high and crazy after the eggs were already laid? Not only must there be apples, but there must be five apples, all of the rare yellow variety. Not red. Not green. Not pink. Yellow. Which naturally the kitchens did not have in stock. So Dmitri had been forced to leave the apartments during those mid-morning hours in which he was normally fast asleep and find a tree that had the right color apple, because if he didn’t he risked losing his eyes to a highly temperamental gold. (Not really, but she was not above taking the eyes of others to make her point until he fell in line.)

It could hardly be surprising that soon thereafter Dmitri was greeted with yet another demand. The Queen would have five bowls, please, of a particular size. Mind he get the right size. In actuality they were teacups but Dmitri knew better than to argue with her even silently when she was in this particular mood. Each was to be filled with ground meat. Not sliced meat. And not raw, either. It was to be seared briefly on one side (so still bloody) but seared nonetheless. Then he was to bring them to her. Why wasn’t he here yet? Sigh.

Harperlove, the little gold greeted with a sweet croon, causing him to stop in his tracks and just look down at the eggs arranged in the center of the hall rather blankly. “Do you want them stepped on?” Idiots no step-and-crush. Harperlove kill if do, yes? ‘Course so. Bowls on outside, center ‘tween egglets. Hurry, too slow, harperlove. Ready, ready egglets are, no wait for slow harperloves. Little left. Bit right. Li- “That’s close enough,” he snapped, and to Dementia’s credit she acquiesced with only a small growl and another stab at him to hurry.

Only after everything was arranged to her liking and the gold had once again verified that not only Nocturne but her lovely slavelet the Devil were still in position to protect the clutch along with Hers did Dementia fix her attention on the Weyr at large. Of course she couldn’t project quite as far as a dragon but this was the center of the Weyr and word would travel quickly indeed. They’d just best pass her words on verbatim or she would be a most unhappy little gold queen. A Queen of Salamandyrs could make anyone’s life miserable if she chose. It was like a bug infestation, really, only they were larger, far more clever and a great deal louder than bugs. Come unworthies! she cried at her loudest broadcast. Babies take pity and make worthy, maybe. Meat here. Come only. Come if dare.

The flame-scarred harper leaned his tall frame against the nearest wall and turned the apples over in his hands idly. Now what was he supposed to do with these?

Principia Discordia Clutch

The eggs are arranged in the center of the main thoroughfare leading from the Main Hall to the Infirmary. Sire and dam must have been hiding them somewhere leading up to this Hatching, because this is the first time they’ve been seen by any of the Selenitas denizens. These eggs, five in number, have been arranged roughly into the shape of a pentagon of unequal sides. Describing them is a rather useless endeavor as the differences from one egg to the next are minute. Roughly the same size and almost bizarrely normal in shape due to the lack of any irregularities whatsoever, all five have a pure white base with flecks of black interspersed randomly across the surface of the shells. They rest on a mound of warm sand that might have come from the Hatching Grounds and Dementia coils at their center.

The Law of Fives states simply that: All things happen in fives, or are divisible by or are multiples of five, or are somehow directly or indirectly appropriate to 5

The Law of Fives is never wrong.

He'd happened upon the lot of them by accident really. Yes he'd heard the annoying little Gold's announcement - but he was on the way to the infirmary and he had no real interest in picking up annoying creatures. They were not practical or useful. Yet here he was, being stopped because they were right there.

Tavis stopped just short of accidentally stepping on one of the eggs - he probably didn't realize how lucky he was he had avoided doing so - and he looked at the man standing there then the Gold thing sitting in the middle of the eggs.

"What is that?", he asked Dmitri - he'd seen salamandyrs from a distance but had yet to actually encounter one or inquire about them.

Ivy had a bounce to her step - which was noticeable higher up on her as well - as she made her way out of the infirmary. She'd just dropped off some of the dried herbs she had stocked up on. The redheaded Candidate was having a rather nice day, one which got even better when she heard the little Gold's announcement.

Come unworthies! Babies take pity and make worthy, maybe. Meat here. Come only. Come if dare.

She'd heard news that there was a salamandyr hatching somewhere in the Weyr, and apparently it was ready to hatch! Smile widened and her pace picked up, only to be met by a happy surprise when she almost ran into the clutch as she headed towards the main hall.

Careful to avoid stepping, kicking, or otherwise touching the eggs she gave a polite nod to the little Gold, "Hello there clutch mother, I hope one of your little ones finds me worthy. It is a lovely clutch."

Her voice was rather bubbly as she spoke to the salamandyr, then her eyes lifted and she saw a familiar face - another Candidate. "Hello Tavis, are you excited for the little mandyrs as well?"

Don't. You. Dare. Piwoth hissed as soon as the gold Salamandyr declaired that her eggs were indeed hatching. R'vor would not consider going against his word. R'vor respected the blue. R'vor would do as Piwoth said, the dragon was absolutly sure of it. "Mmm, I think I dare," R'vor said, giving a light whack to the dragon's hide before rushing towards the clutch. He had known that Dementia's clutch was due to clutch at anytimes, so it was natural that R'vor had begun planning on attending, though he had been trying to keep it from Piwoth.

Apperantly he had failed. Piwoth did not put up with anything getting inbetween him and his riderlove. So having a little shit, excuse me, mandyr, would just not do. R'VOR "Sorry Piwoth," he yelled behind his back before tearing downt he hallway. R'vor knew the way to the clutch well, he had become a frequent visitor to the infirmy to reconnect with an old friend. Perhaps she would run into her at the hatching, which would brighten his day oh so much. But at least today she might be left alone, because R'vor was going to devote most of his attention to taking home one of the little babies, if only to piss Piwoth off. Piwoth needed to learn to give him personal space.

None of the eggs had hatched when R'vor got to the clutch, so he sat back on his heals after greeting everyone cheerfully, reaching into his pockets for the meatroll he had on him at all times since the clutch was first laid.

A blur of near black and white winged down the hallway from the infirmary. Grim looped once around the clutch and Dementia, singing her a trilling song of birth before he alighted on the shoulder of the nearest human. His overlarge wings simply draped around his thin form like a dark cloak. Looking very much like the firelizard version of the reaper he trilled down at the eggs, flashing pictures back to his bonded. Look his lovely dancer of death, birth. Behold the miracle. With a chirp he chattered to the gathering crowd. Beware. Be careful. Not to close. Watch where you step least you lose an eye~

Er’ani really didn’t care for another pet. Snowdrop was plenty for him. Really it was mainly curiosity and a tendency to create mischief that had him moving from the Main Hall down the hallway and to the small gathering. Really it was a stupid place for eggs. The middle of a hallway? They could get stepped on there or worse. Was the clutch mother daft? Coming upon the scene the weyrling paused to look at the few already gathered before moving closer.

A goofy grin was given Dmitri as Er’ani passed the harper, near enough to almost brush him. Apparently he was having fun playing with apples or something. “Taking up juggling in an attempt to distract people from your scary face or what?” His tone was friendly enough even if the words were decidedly not all that kind. Just joking. Yeah kind of. In all reality with the things the albinorider had heard about the harper he didn’t exactly like him. Quite the contrary.

Greeting to Dmitri given Er’ani approached the clutch in the middle of the hallway and, purely for comedic effect, mock ‘tripped’ stumbling towards the eggs before leaping over them. Turning back towards the clutch he pointed at Dementia. “You’ve got a big mouth for something so small. You inherit that or is that a breed trait?” Because you know poking at a gold guarding her eggs was the smartest thing one could do in the middle of a hatching. Always the clown. Even in the midst of a birth it would seem.

Always the child. Oh hush.

[Aftershock]

Cainith was in the kitchens when the tall, pale blonde wherhandler came into the kitchen, his arms full of yellow apples. He was obviously a bit out of sorts, even a bit exasperated, as Cainith saw him ask a cook for five teacups filled with meat, seared on one side. Confused and a bit intrigued, Cainith placed a few meatrolls and a chicken leg in his snack satchel (his "snatchel", he called it with a knowing smirk), and followed the scar-faced youth as he balanced the apples and teacups in his arms and exited the kitchen.

Finally catching up to the young man as he came upon the strange sight in the middle of the thoroughfare, with the small golden salamandyr nestled nearby, he stopped short to avoid disrupting the obvious special occasion. Leaning against the wall and pulling a meatroll out of his snatchel, he chewed on it distractedly as he watched the youth arrange the cups just so, apparently to the call of a voice only he could hear. At some point during the proceedings, another Candidate (Tavis, was it? Cainith still had trouble remembering some of the names...) walked up, and only Cainith's outstretched hand stopped the boy from accidentally stepping on one of the eggs, as he stopped just short and windmilled his arms, nearly losing his balance and stepping on the egg anyway. "So, what's this, then?" Cainith asked Tavis, just before the gold's announcement filled his mind, causing him to nearly drop his meatroll in surprise. He wondered how quickly he would get used to the whole "speaking in your mind" thing if he ended up Impressing a wher...

She was so full. If it was possible for her to give birth to food babies, Ithanna would most likely have triplets. Today the Greenrider hadn't eaten breakfast before going to her Infirmary shifts, the boredom coupled with the tedious studying had tossed her stomach into a growling frenzy. Which, apparently, only a whole stack of corncakes with sweet syrup could satisfy. It was times like these Ithanna was glad she could eat just about anything and not get fat. "Guuh." As she patted her stomach the Apprentice frowned and swung her head from side to side. Who had spoken? Iwyrth didn't talk like that, and it definitely wasn't Lavi. The Green was in their weyr, sleeping off an extended belly... just like she should be doing. But alas, much like a cat, she was intrigued by the call.

Wondering closer toward the smattering of people in the middle of the thoroughfare, the Greenrider stopped near a very...very... very tall man. She'd have stared up at him for quite a while if a Firelizard hadn't alighted on her shoulder. "Oh Grim! Hello." She'd seen the little male before, he belonged to Erilena. Working in the infirmary had its perks sometimes. Tapping the male's muzzle in greeting, she glanced back at Cainith when he spoke. "Oh I can tell you that. That Gold right there is Dementia, that is her clutch and this do be a Salamandyr Hatching. If you want a baby Salamandyr then this is down right the best place to be."

Ithanna winced as Er'ani teased the clutchmother. She also knew the Albinorider from the infirmary, more as a reoccurring guest than a worker, she helped make the sunbalm that Lketh wore during the day. The Greenrider had never really talked to the Weyrling except in passing, but she hadn't pegged him as the idiotic type. If he didn't get bit multiple times (or worse) by the end of this hatching she'd march right back into the dining hall and eat another stack of corncakes. Three angry adult 'Mandyrs were not to be trifled with. Oh and Grim too. From his perch on her shoulder he seemed pretty invested in the eggs too. "Oh geeze Er'ani, don't make them angry." Ithanna called out to the teen. "I don't wanna have'ta heal you."

[Kisha-Ra]

Yoalla had the misfortune to be pretty well tuned into salamandyr noise, and Dementia was making an effort to be heard for miles, or so it seemed. If the gold hadn’t done the job in summoning the wherhandler the second voice the echoed the gold certainly had. Come Unworthy, come if dare. Come or The Devil eat! Yoalla snorted softly as Lao chirped softly and turned hopeful eyes on her. The bronze loved hatchings and maybe his lovely Kurro-mate would be there too? Yes even though Lao had chased and caught the green of the conjoined salamandyrs he’d decided it was the blue he’d caught, nothing would ever shake Lao’s conviction that he was female and a green.

Yoalla knew when to give up, neither Lao, not The Devil would give her any peace until she arrived, so she rose and dressed swiftly, silently assuring Yosk that no one expected her to attend and casting Denial a suspicious look, however the serpentine firelizard just yawned at her and went back to sleep, it seemed that hatchings were not the ideal time to eat baby salamandyrs, not with everyone watching. So Yoalla left with just Lao, who flew around her head like an orbiting moonlet chirping occasionally with excitement.

Yoalla at least didn’t have to guess too much at where the hatching was since The Devil was already there, maybe it was just all the time she’d spent keeping tabs on her mindmates but Yoalla was pretty sure she’d be able to find them anywhere, and after a while it became obvious anyway.

When Yoalla arrived she just rolled her eyes at the location of the eggs, that was probably either Dementia’s idea of funny or Dmitri’s, or maybe both. The rider of that albino dragon was probably safe for now she decided, or least safe from The Devil, since the green was low on understanding and had settled on just hissing horribly at everyone and circling the clutch. In the end if was the huge bearded guy who drew Yoalla’s attention most, partly it was just the fact that he looked slightly like a tree to the short greenhandler, but mostly it was his asking what was going on. He was in for an unpleasant surprise, especially if he got hit by the imp of the perverse (which salamandyrs were all full of) and Impressed one of these babies. Yoalla herself was pretty much safe with one wher one salamandyr and two firelizards to her name, most salamandyrs liked undivided attention.


Mo’rya your endless curiosity is going to get you in trouble one of these days[/color]

One of these days hugeslave? Soon, maybe now.

Despite the predictions of doom from both his dragon and his salamandyr Mo’rya fairly flew through the main hall, out into the corridor, and skidded to a halt at the back of the growing crowd, the boy looked around, decided there weren’t any really great places to see from since this clutch was now in the corridor, which it surely hadn’t been before, and picked a spot leaning against the wall. Wit settled on his shoulder, with apparently no intention of moving, that was good, then he wouldn’t notice that there were five eggs. For some reason odd numbers infuriated the normally placid blue like nothing else and Mo’rya would rather not have him eaten by an enraged queen.

Er’ani was likely to get himself in trouble, far more likely than Mo’rya, if he was going to say things like that, if the parents understood that was, some salamandyr, even larger ones seemed not to be as smart as Wit. Seriously though, sometimes Mo’rya wondered if his classmate didn’t need his mouth sewn shut for his own safety.

Dementia had run and Nocturne had chased once again. So it was that the blue eventually found himself guarding eggs he'd sired along with his gold mate. Not that he did the hissy-speaky thing to those that displeased him. He let Dementia do most of the work (along with her silly green slave) and reserved his help for when someone did something especially stupid. Like that idiot who jumped over the clutch and insulted his mate (and thereby insulted Nocturne himself). Could have let Dementia handle it, really, but he was perched oh so perfectly to launch himself at the weyrling.

There was no vocal warning about the blue's attack. The element of surprise was a powerful thing and the blue saw no point of giving the much larger human the advantage. It wasn't like Er'ani had given them warning about jumping over their eggs. The blue jumped from his little crack in the wall and landed oh so neatly on the boys shoulder. He crawled siftly to the boy's neck and jumped, latching on with teeth to the boy's ear. He wasn't so nice as to bite softly in warning, either. He was aiming to draw blood.

T'san had absolutely no intention of going to Impress a 'mandyr. Aliene had left a deep enough scar that he simply didn't ever want another one. Not to mention the blue firelizard perched on his shoulder would be absolutely miserable with another draconic pet about. The unfortunate thing about the salamandyr's broadcast was that she didn't mention where her clutch was. He'd been simply wandering the halls of the weyr when he came across the group interested in the eggs and sighed.

No one ever said his luck was good. He would have left immediately if not for two things: a couple of M'ta's weyrlings were there and there were a lot of people there. He knew well enough that a lot of people didn't necessarily mean he was safe even if he didn't want soemthing. Dsoleth had climbed into the stands to Impress to him despite the large number of canidates at Fort. It did lower his chances though. The brownrider briefly approach Mo'rya with a grin. "After one of these little beasties?" He asked curiously. Wasn't one enough for anyone?

The thing about having three salamandyrs attached to your brain was that when more of them were entering the world, the compulsion to go (or not go) was three times as strong as normal. When one of those salamandyrs was Shells, you had better just give up trying not to go now, because hatchings meant golds and the bronze had still failed to find a mate. Not that Piden didn't like salamandyr hatchings - actually, he'd been to nearly all of them since he'd been back at the weyr (ESPECIALLY after impressing Shells) - it was just he didn't like salamandyr hatchings when they interrupted his sleep. Or maybe 'sleep' was a better term.

Liezzz! Shells screamed, passing on Dementia's call (amplified also by Red and Three, the former green in a quiet, unobtrusive way and the latter with hissing jealousy). Menial liiieeezzz, bad to Shells, no pick UglyFatfaceFluffbrain if Shells no chase fat ufles, no badtaste UglyBlueThing. Shells polite, Shells no chase otehrs but Mentia, Mentia STULL pick fatminiface. Have moar ugly evil babies, no pretty, big, beauyty babies with Shells! The bronze's mental call was cacophonous - he never bothered to speak only to His, why deprive others of his wisdom? Piden, who had dressed and left the apartments in a state of fuzzy, sleepy haze, finally just grabbed Shells and shook him, not hard enough to do damage but hard enough to startle the Bronze. "Shut. Up." Please do, Three added, in her normal venomous tone. But Dendeeeennnn, life no FAIR.

And with that proclamation, made (loudly) to the hatching as a whole, Shells switched gears, scampering out of Piden's grip and down to Dementia's level. He didn't get too close, although that had far more to do with respect for Dementia than any worry that he could be injured by any of the three cutch guards. He was huge, and had his own posse after all, even if it consisted of Three and Red, although they weren't likely to be much help. Luckily, only Shells knew that. Menia, you lovely thisday, he purred, drawing himself up to his full (and not insignificant) height at a respectful distance. Nocturne and The Devil were utterly ignored; the bronze had eyes only for Dementia. Evenmore lovlier than eggsies.

Piden sighed, leaving Shells to his own devices. He'd probably be shunned long before the hatching was over, but now that Piden was up, he didn't plan on having his day/night ruined. Luckily, he spotted a fellow Wherhandler within minutes - Yoalla, of course she'd be here, what with The Devil and all. Sliding in next to her, he elbowed her lightly in the ribs, deciding to skip all the normal questions (here for a salamandyr? how're your pets? etc.) and go for a non-sequiter. "Hey, Yoalla. Have you ever played strip-chess?"

It was Daniel that brought her out of the infirmary, not the commotion. Daniel was plenty of pet for Serissa, but he was such a love that it always worried her somewhat when he felt the need to be somewhere besides where she was. So it was that she followed his big, leathery wings out to the hallway, where she lost sight of him for a moment, in the press... Ah, there he was, perched next to Grim, of course. The males got along excellently, despite their owners' inability to be civil to one another, and Daniel liked spending time with this particular sibling about as much as he appeared to like anything. Chirping, he tilted his head regally in Grim's direction, pulling his large wings around his body and asking if his blue brother needed any help?

Now that she new Daniel was in good hands Serissa very nearly went right back into the infirmary, and she would have if it weren't for a particularly familiar freckly face crouched down by the eggs. "Well if it isn't my favorite blue-ish rider," she said, having slid through the crowd to stand next to him. "Here for a salamandyr?"

[Requiem]

Ithanna answered random kid's question adequately, so Dmitri did little but nod assent to it even if her manner of delivering said answer was somewhat...strange. He was being kept busy watching all the people practically stumble upon the Hatching. Yes, Dementia, this was definitely the best place to put fragile eggs. Underfoot in the middle of the busiest corridor in the Weyr. The gold's croon at the thought quickly turned to something else, an odd mixture of growl and welcoming hum. For at the same time, a blue snout punched a gooey hole through the Disciple Egg and the albino rider who thought he was so cute faked a stumble and leapt the clutch.

Preserve! the Disciple Blue cried, head immediately disappearing back into the egg. If one looked closely enough they might notice the whole egg trembling slightly. Preserve, a second, more feminine voice echoed. And, much like an echo, it lacked the emotion of the first. It was stated in an almost dissociated singsong. Well. Scary. Little. Geeze. A pause was given between each word, as if she were savoring them all and trying each on. Then the insides of the Deacon Egg seemed to undulate, stretching like warm rubber, and it fell apart around a dainty little pale-colored green sprawled on her back. Body twisted slowly, grey-hued eyes sweeping over the people there, and the little creature gave a small sigh.

While the stirrings began, Dementia ignored the idiot albinoweyrling. But she only did that because there were better someones to take up her cause. A yellow apple smacked square into Er'ani's jaw (the one opposite the biting Nocturne, of course) with bruising force a couple seconds before the harper's hand found the boy's arm. He shoved the albinorider hard down the hall and away from the Hatching. "Get out," the man grated, even as he wondered if anyone would show up to back him up. In case Idiot wanted to fight about it.

Meanwhile, the Disciple Blue had apparently regained his courage, along with his tongue. Goddess Mine, Now who was he talking to? Save servant, the male pleaded, widening the hole in his egg. He attempted to prostrate himself from within his shell and sent it rolling into his dam, the male vocalizing his surprise with a small squeak. Of a sudden, the Deacon Green's eyes lit up (literally) with a rainbow of colors. One moment she was on her back, the next streaking over the ground with parts of eggshell still clinging to her hide and gooey wings outspread. Leaping, she caught the pantleg of the candidate and scrambled all the way up past his neck to loop her tail about his ear. There she hung, pawing lightly at his cheek lovingly. Mine, she crooned to Tavis. Meat. Goo. Run. Love. Back to her singsonging chants.

The dam of the clutch nudged the Disciple Blue’s egg back into a position that would allow him to wriggle free, the gold sparing little enough attention to Shells. Well-used to his loud belligerence by now. Babies best, two heads much gooder than one, no? Not that the question was one she cared to hear a response to. Loud Shells is. It was her only response to the male’s flattery, but given the fact that she didn’t bother to chase him away (though that could well be attributed to the clutch being of more importance and Shells not being a threat) it must have had at least some small effect on her.

By this time the Disciple Blue had liberated himself and made a beeline for the obviously most divine presence in the room. He flattened himself prostrate before Cainith. Goddess Mine, he crooned to the one he’d chosen as His. (Who else, after all? Cainith was certainly a Goddess of divine size, clearly more powerful than all these demi-gods and henchmen.) Mercy? Many pangs.

Perhaps unnoticed, the Priest Egg had begun to rock.

Disciple Blue ‘Mandyr

There is no Goddess but Goddess and She is Your Goddess. There is no Erisian Movement but The Erisian Movement and it is The Erisian Movement. And every Golden Apple Corps is the beloved home of a Golden Worm.

Appearance: Perfection. With the only exception that he just might be a touch smaller in size than normal, given his parents, this blue is a prime example of the normal composition of a salamandyr. His tail is twice as long as his body, the head tapers down with no discernible neck to his snout, his wings aren’t large enough for true flight or more than limited gliding, and his frill is both completely intact and not so large as to get in the way. No mutations. Only one strange marking apart from the more common ones in the form of twin ‘eyes’ on his wings. The marking is roughly eye-shaped, but seems to be dripping, much like it had been recently painted on the membrane. It is white on the left wing and black on the right.

Aside from the aforementioned markings, the male’s coloring is not particularly special, though it is rather pleasing to the eye. His base color is a cool matte hue of dark teal that is much akin to deep water when the sun is shining brightly down on it. Two strips of unevenly spaced dots run down either side of his spine, these a more vibrant sea-green color. His spines are the same, but the membranes of both wings and frill are a curious shade of translucent gold. It is a subtle hue that some might call off-white shading toward yellow, but there is definitely that metallic sparkle in the gossamer webbings, and the white marking on the left wing pops enough to highlight that the color definitely isn’t white.

Personality: This ‘mandyr’s egg might have been rotated a little too much when his dam and sire were making sure he was well-incubated. Certainly it would not be surprising if he’d spent the majority of his gestation with the blood concentrated in his teensy brain. This male, you see, is thoroughly convinced that His is a goddess. We are not talking a slightly abnormal tendency toward hanging onto every word of His. No. We are talking full-out abject worship, where every word that falls from the lips of Cainith is divine law and it must be carried out to the best of the blue’s ability. His may only be addressed as Goddess by the lesser beings (read: everyone) lest they be corrected harshly and accused of blasphemy.

It must be understood that, to this little guy, it is not enough that he be obedient to his Goddess. He must insure that every other living creature treats her with the respect that (s)he deserves and obeys her commandments. In fact it can be argued that the blue is far more devout in his endeavors to bend others’ to the will of His than he is in following the Goddess’ dictums himself. As with many such devout disciples, he has a tendency to be self-important and sanctimonious in his dealings with others – Goddess Cainith excepted, of course. The male does not at all approve of heretics hanging around His overly much and as such would greatly protest any further mindmates. (Not that it’s his decision anyway.)

To combat this world of heresy, he naturally must make converts. Is it really his fault that females are so much easier to convert than males? Of course not! (Nevermind that he hardly pays males any attention apart from judging them. They are not made to birth and therefore have no divine spark. He somehow forgets he’s not female, either.) Naturally this means that the blue has the most respect for clutching females. He can almost always be found around a gold of any type, from salamandyr to dragon, converting them to follow his Goddess and of course he chases them all! If one cannot give life oneself, the next best thing is to start life in one who can, right?

Appearance: A little runt she is, even for a green. This little light-colored beauty is no bigger than her white siblings, but her coloring quickly disabuses anyone of the notion that she might be one of those rare mute salamandyrs. Though her base color is a soft pastel green, she is freckled (yes, freckled much like a fawn) with forest green spots all over. Not for her the two lines of tiny spots like most of her brethren. She has them everywhere, even on her wings and frill. The spots vary in size from pinprick to the largest which covers almost the entire left side of her head.

The color of wings and frill are pure white apart from the spots and she is formed quite elegantly. Her body is just a touch more slender than that of most salamandyrs, her eyes a touch wider, her wings slightly longer and her tail a touch thinner, all lending a somewhat delicate look to the tiny creature. Cute indeed she is, particularly since she spends most of her time dangling by her prehensile tail from the ear of Hers, much like a living earring. Nor will her eyes ever stop showing the rainbow hues of Impression. It’s as if the Impression itself was such an experience that she’s never left it.

Personality: This salamandyr is something of a queer creature to have sharing mindspace with you. It doesn’t help poor Tavis much that the girl bonds nice and strong. As mentioned before, this green spends most of her time dangling from his ear. She is not given to dramatics or lofty language. Indeed she hardly moves at all. If she is forced to relinquish the ear, the salamandyr promptly takes up her position on some other part of his body just so long as she can be touching his skin. The only time she seems to show any sort of strong emotion is when separated from him, the green graying almost instantly and sending up a haunting keen.

Most of the time, though, she is in a constant state of passive euphoria, much like being perpetually drugged. Her mind wanders off in weird directions that even Hers can’t follow, though his own thoughts are tugged along for the ride just the same. These thoughts come in fives. They never seem to have any connection to one another and she announces them aloud in a tone like mindlessly reading from a hymnal. A distant singsong tone. When the green is not announcing her ‘revelations’, which seems to only be during times of great distress in Hers, she combats this influx of emotions by numbering. Numbering things in fives. A sure sign that Tavis is getting distressed? His salamandyr starts counting.

Her odd behavior and tendencies make for some pretty crazy Runs. First and foremost, she doesn’t like being separated from Hers ever, so the entire Run is spent in a state of duress while she attempts to catch up to Hers who is himself Running. Running away from his ‘mandyr in the search for His. Because yes, he really does lose his mind completely to the green. Let’s hope he doesn’t have heart issues. Naturally she must be caught as she won’t choose; she’s too busy trying to catch up to Tavis. Once caught she forgets for a short time her distress in order to ensure that she has no less than five suitors at the time of capture. Fun for everyone…except possibly Tavis.

[Aftershock]

Cainith snorted in amusement as the tiny green latched onto Tavis, the goo from the egg dripping down from her perch on his ear down his neck and onto the collar of his shirt. Slapping the boy in the back (actually being careful not to knock the boy off-balance, after his earlier near-fall onto the eggs already), he chortled, "Looks like you've got a new friend, cub!"

Suddenly, his laughter cut off, as the Disciple Egg blue's words echoed in his mind. Glancing about, not having seen the blue 'mandyr beeline it's way to his feet with his amusement at the misfortune of Tavis, he finally spotted the (to him) tiny blue creature prostrated at his feet. "Goddess?" exclaimed Cainith, obviously confused. "I am no God, not to mention Goddess." Thinking he was perhaps in the creature's way, being used to being in the way of many things with his size, he very carefully stepped to the left to clear a space for the 'mandyr to find the "Goddess" it was searching for... only for the well-formed blue to adjust its stance to face him as he moved, pleading, "Please, Goddess, reject not. This one serve good. Meat, Goddess?"

Shaking his head in amusement, Cainith reached down to pluck the tiny creature from the floor, noting the interesting coloration and markings as it clung piously to his forefinger, miniscule tongue licking out against his skin. "I must still be getting used to this mindlink thing and mishearing that 'Goddess' bit, as I'm not sure how anything could mistake me for a woman," Cainith thought to himself as he took a meatroll out of his snatchel and bit off the end of it, presenting the warm meat-filled interior to the tiny blue on his finger, which proceeded to stuff its head into the meatroll and gorge on the ground herdbeast inside. "I suppose I must find something to call you, little thing," Cainith continued, as the blue gorged itself on the inside of the meatroll. Noticing that it's eating caused it to appear to have a meatroll for a head, Cainith jokingly continued, "How about Rollhead? Roll, for short." At this, the blue 'mandyr pulled its head from the meatroll, bits of meat still stuck to it's skin, thinking, "This one Goddess' Rollhead, yes. Rollhead serve Goddess good," as it extended it's golden neckfrill in pride, eyes going blue with pleasure at it's fine new name.

[Kisha-Ra]

A small smirk graced Yoalla face as the distinctive mental tone of Shells protested that life was not FAIR, at least she didn’t have that salamandyr to contend with, and luckily with Dementia present The Devil wouldn’t be mimicking the bronze’s foul language today. Only the biggest and shiniest ‘mandyrs would do for The Devil to copy.

Seeing Piden present was no surprise, if Shells was here then he and Piden’s greens had no doubt coerced him out of bed as The Devil had done to her, the role of the bronze firelizard on her shoulder in coercing was ignored, Lao was quiet at least. The question Piden asked however startled the greenhandler into laughter with its ridiculousness. ‘Strip chess Piden? I thought stripping was reserved for card games.’ She gave Piden an inquiring look while Lao fluted a cheerful greeting at the two new babies and flexed his talons into her shoulder just slightly. Pay attention.

The Devil flicked her frill up at Shells, a mild warning, but as it seemed her queen wasn’t annoyed by him she moved away contemptuously Loud Shells. She echoed mockingly, ironic since if there wasn’t a gold salamandyr present The Devil would likely be echoing the bronze himself. Smellybad. Noc BITE. The green added spitefully at the so rude egg leaping human as she spotted Nocturne doing just that to him.


Mo’rya turned a blindingly, and probably quite terrifying, grin on T’san as the brownrider appeared beside him. ‘Yes!’ the reply was a clear and cheerful affirmative. ‘Of course, they’re all so cute aren’t they?’ Mo’rya was interrupted by an adult salamandyr, which seemed insistent on letting the world know that life wasn’t fair. ‘Well Wit is anyway, and I’m sure he’d like a friend, or a slave.’

Once little flashes of coloured hide appeared in the clutch T’san’s presence was all but forgotten. Weren’t they just adoreable little things? Mo’rya couldn’t actually see much of them from where he was but they were, obviously. In the weyrling’s eyes every baby was adorable, except maybe human babies, those were just all red and loud and awful.

Ghost appeared silently as ever, and came to perch on Mo’rya with a disapproving chirp. Why did she tell him there were eggs hatching? Naughty hers, if her babies hadn’t een here she’d never have guessed. Weren’t they just lovely? The gold made silent pride filled inquiry about, not the hatching salamandyrs, but Daniel and Grim.

Er’ani wasn’t really expecting what happened next. Had he been he might have been a bit more eloquent in his behavior. Turning briefly from Dementia to answer Ithanna he smiled at her. “Oh psht. Why would you have to heal me?” The answer to that question came in a flash of blue coloration out of the corner of his eye as Nocturne leapt onto his shoulder and then proceeded to assault his ear. Maybe it was a good thing that the blue was so small otherwise the albinorider might have just given into the temptation to kill the thing. As it was his hand flew towards his ear with a small whimper. Damn for a little thing his teeth sure stung. “Get off me you little bugger.” Just as he was about to grab Nocturne something smacked into his jaw, effectively stunning him for a few moments, before he felt an arm grab his and he was being shoved.

Er’ani stumbled back a step or two before narrowing his eyes on Dmitri. “Fuck you. This hallway doesn't belong to you.” Was his oh so elegant response before he stepped forward, more into the tall harper’s space. “Nor do I have to listen to you. You sure you want to mess with me scar face?” Without another word the weyrling lunged forward and swung at Dmitri’s face. Self-defense in his opinion. If scar face wanted to fight he’d get a fight and Er’ani was not retarded like L’nu. So the teenager assumed he might have a decent chance. Bigger they are the harder they fall right?

Grim chirped to Ithanna as she tapped his nose. Hello. Was not the light of birth a wonderful thing to behold? Quite amazing. As Daniel alighted on the greenrider’s other shoulder he gave a welcoming trill his eyes whirling in cheerful shades. Hello brother dearest. Rustling his overlarge wings he looked down at the now hatching mandyrs before his attention was drawn to Er’ani and Dmitri. Large eyes narrowed upon the albinoweyrling and he hissed, the sound decidedly not nice. Too close to the babies and that one was displeasing anyway. Shall they help the tall one remove him?

Without further noise the large blue leapt off Ithanna’s shoulder and shot for Er’ani. Dipping his wings the near black blue buzzed past the boy’s head, claws extended as he slashed at the right side. First warning. Grim gave an angry hiss. This one was not by any means a favorite of the firelizard’s and now he threatened the babies. Not acceptable. The next time he wouldn’t miss. Claws flexed as the looped back to hover somewhere above Dmitri’s left shoulder.

R'vor was concentrating on the clutch, but not so much to where as he wouldn't recognize a friendly voice when he heard one. He jerked his head to the left, a grin splitting his face. "Hello Serissa, smashing as always. Don't let Piwoth catch you saying that," he teased motioning for Serissa to crouch in the empty place besides him. For once, he was glad that Piwoth was pouting and blocking his rider out. The Blue didn't appreciate being called anything but a blue, the bronze would have been much preffered, and hearing it from someone whom his rider had taken a shine too, and there fore was taking up some of his's time, would not end well.

'I'm doing fine, and yes, I'm trying my hand at getting one of the critters. Their cute," R'vor said, eyes flitting back to the clutch as two eggs hatched, producing a blue and a green. They were so tiny! How were they not squished by their human counterparts? The freckled rider nudged Serissa as the two made their choices, any type of impression always left him with a giddy feeling. "Don't you already have a fli- look," he said excitedly pointing to another egg that had begun to rock. R'vor was like a kid in a candy shop.

The bluerider had ultimatly come here to annoy his dragon, not the best reason for wanting a pet, because if he managed to attract one, he was stuck with it. But now, as he watched the little green hang haphaserdly off a candidate's ear, he was beginning to see the attraction of the little critters. He wouldn't mind obtaining a mandyr, and if he did, Piwoth would just have to deel. Nothing was garanteered however, so R'vor watched the clutch with growing anticipation. Two down, three to go.
